Been unable to type or paint much 😞 so thought I would try a quick rescue job on this gargoyle? we've had for ages ( my other half admits he can't paint -but is better now than he was then). He did want him still to be usable separately but coincidentally in his game a player has got extremely pedantic about gargoyles and grotesques - hence base with downspout! Which I'm fairly happy with. Now I say its a gargoyle but I cannot trace the manufacturer so it might be a demon? Anyone got any ideas please? It is metal and the base has C FP(F?) 96 on one side and WK on the other if that helps?

I started these guys in mid-January thinking that I might get them knocked out in a weekend or so. Two months later, and here we are... These are officially labeled as gargoyles in the set that they came in, but I thought they'd be much cooler as old-school demons. I added the underwear and loincloths (before that, they were totally unclothed except for the bracers on their wrists - looked weird). One bonus to this color scheme is that it's pretty close to the Minions of Utgar squad in Heroscape. So, if I ever want to field an extra squad, I can use these guys as stand-ins now.

I challenged myself to knocking one out in 40 minutes. This was another pick from paint club, so I was wanting to get it done and get to another. This little guy was fun to push with wet blending. It was hard for me to highlight only up to the pink, and man that stuff is a one coat and done! Gotta really thin it out or it'll be cotton candy. I ended up sticking to a 5 color rule. My 5th color was the black brown on the nails. It's not in the palette photo, but i did have some left on my palette from the orc chief earlier today. I like the little belly and inner leg transition. Wet blending for the win. Really this would be more adorable than ominous. Guess he'll just have to deal with the other gargoyles talking about him being the flamboyant one of the group. "There goes Gorag again..."

An easy paint, quickly done, but came out nice. He is a large model. If you need a Gargoyle, I would highly recommend. A lot nicer in person, the pic on Reapers site doesn't do the model justice.

I needed a nothic so I made one! I used the mortar gargoyle, cut off the wings, used paperclips and greenstuff to make the spikes, and greenstuff to redo his face and eye. He's a little goofy looking but I kind of like him! Maybe we'll get a real nothic in Bones 5!

Digging a litter deeper in to "the vault" now. this gargoyle belongs to the same undead warband as the wraith, But was painted more traditionally rather than speedpainted. Still, It went pretty quickly as it is just a lot of stone with eyes. I like this sculpt as it is more imposing than others, and genuinely seems like pitted stone rather than a stone like creature. I only wish the tail were a bit different; from some angles it looks a little inappropriate. you've seen it, you cant unsee it! Edit: Click the pic. the reduced size image is messing with the eyes.

I had mixed up a unique shade of gray paint for another figure I'm working on, and had a fair bit left over. Not wanting to waste it, I dug this out of storage and slapped it on him. I think it took me about an hour and a half to finish him up. The base color is pretty close to the same color as the figure; this is intentional. I wanted to get kind of a camouflage effect with it. The figure has a loincloth sculpted on, which I found kind of funny. Why would a gargoyle need a loincloth, are they anatomically correct? My mind works in strange ways sometimes... Anyway, here's the pics, please let me know what you think.

Finally got some photos of my speed paints at Gen Con. As some of my fellow con goers already posted a few great speed paints you may know the rules. 45 minutes, limited paint and two brushes that are used and abused at the Con. Although this year and last you also get a brush from games and gears that you may use at each speed paint, but somehow I either lose it or leave it at the hotel and never remember to bring it back. Anyway here are my two which also will count for the RPChallenge. My Dark Sword speed paint Mab - Queen of the Fairies And a quick poorly lit photo of all the lovely ladies. And Impact's Chibi Gargoyle Each will stay as they are and be placed on my shelf with previous speed paints. Both surprisingly scored 2nd place but no final round for me as I was leaving too early on Sunday to attend. During both speed paints everyone painted quite well and produced some pretty minis in just 45 mins.

As has been a theme this year, the minis I manage to paint will all count towards the resolutionary challenge. As per the resolutionary painting challenge guidelines, I will post them here, and link in my post in the challenge thread. Finishing up units...here is the Mantic Kings of War Gargolyes. 5 of them, including the one I painted a few weeks or so ago, rebased to the standard 25mm square. For some reason I thought they had 20mm bases. At least with the 25mm base, they don't keep tipping over all the time. As these are female, and do not wear any clothing as such, here is a link to the picture. And it turns out there should have been 10 of them to make up a full troop, which seems to be the only quantity in the army lists these days. But seeing as they are utterly horrible to rank up because of wings everywhere, I will simply use these 5 on a large enough movement tray to represent the unit. At least until I get round to prepping some more from the boxes of unbuilt mantic models I have from their many Kickstarters. I think I have a few more in there. 25mm bases. Restic.

Need to finish up a few details and properly base it.

Hello, such happy news regarding the Bones today so here is a recent experiment, still with craft paint and no primer. Others have painted a much more exciting Gargoyle but I wanted to see what I could do with just one color. First try sucked (too bright) and I decided to strip and begin again -- it was actually harder to get the paint off than I thought it would be. It really sticks well. Despite boiling water I could never get this guy to stay upright, to I made a custom base out of some weird stuff I found at the craft store. I am really happy with the result -- an unusual "natural" effect. I am continuing to experiment with home-made bases. Cheers.

"The Veteran" (Silver Medal) This miniature was my 1st time painting simulated battle damage. The goal was to make him look like a rugged veteran who leads with the javelin but favors the shield. His armor is piecemail due to battle damage so severe from prior conflicts that he's had to substitute armor from felled enemies. I realized he was a Warlord figure too late after putting him on a round base, but I think the round base actually works nicely with the piece overall. I spent a lot of time on his face and eyes, b/c he has a really wicked appearance overall but wanted to really emphasize the gruesome joy and confidence that this gnoll feels as he's stalking the battlefield. I imagined him at the front of a strike force, the apex of an evil army. He doesn't care about life or death, he doesn't even care about the outcome; his only concern is his personal glory and the next addition to his armor.

MonkeySloth's recent posting about more accurately portraying rocks in miniature painting got me thinking about this fellow. I took a photo of a decorative rock pile in my yard and have opted to try and work some of what I see in these rocks into the painting of this fellow. I've already done some customization to this sculpt as you can see. Out of the box, I heated this guy in boiling water, and then hyper-flexed his wings to where they were almost touching before dousing him in cold water. Over a period of 3-4 hours, his wings moved into the position you see here, which is the position portrayed in the online store. I used an exacto blade to cut a 45-degree angle into his left arm so I could reglue it into the position you see. It was so clean, I don't even need to green stuff the joint. I hated the left 'thumb' of the sculpt and opted to cut it away and use a little green stuff to make a new one. For fun, I decided to add a goblin head to his closed right hand, and used some green stuff to do some dirty goblin hair out the top of the fist. My overall vision for him is that he's a guardian gargoyle left behind from a long forgotten civilization, or maybe oathsworn to a tribe of druids.

I have been out of the hobby for ages. Here is another one I painted in an earlier life, when drybrushing was king. It was drybrushed over a black undercoat as far as I remember, mainly old roundpot Citadel and "Miniature Paints by Gamecraft" (smell exacly the same, I belive these were made by the same manufacturer, what today sells as "Coat D'arms". Some of these paints I have with price tags dated 1998 and earlier. And they are still perfectly usable (!). And yes -I am reusing the same text as in other oldies but goldies posts. since it pretty much does say what it needs to ;) Rock "Nudity" Warning! So I started this a couple of days before Christmas and I was racking my head over how to get a good stoney look for my new friend and i remembered a trick i accidentally learned from the l2pk. I primed the mini with reaper brush on primer and the washed the crap out of it with black ink the combination of the ink and primer gives a great stone effect imo, my only thought is that the body held on to the ink more than i wanted and so it's a hair darker than the wings. http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/8327302852/'> I will see about getting some decent pictures up tonight.
