Huh usually I put one of these up sooner than this. Just been busy I guess. Who's all going? How did you fair in the hotel lottery? So Sunday was event registration. Did you get into the events you wanted? My group did fairly well at the hotel thing this year even though we had to split the group this year. both hotels are fairly close. I got into most of the events I wanted. had some issues with the priority system preventing me from getting into events because it conflicted with another event that I would only be going to if I hadn't gotten into an earlier time. Yet some how it did allow me to sign up for 2 Speed paints that conflicted with other events that I got into. (and I only realized one before paying) Also I just a bit ago remembered that I wanted to do a Frostgrave event but they are all sold out already.

I haven't posted anything in a while now, but I have been painting quite a bit. Unfortunately I just haven't been able to get good pictures lately. I think it might be because I finished my hobby room now take pictures downstairs in the basement with less natural light. Sadly It means I had to abandon my dungeon setting for pictures and go to regular photo back grounds, But at least I now have a set up that works for taking pictures now. So I'll be playing catch up for little while with posting some things I've gotten done lately. So With out further ado, this was my Gencon MHE contest entry for this year, a Noh Empire squad. I actually got a bronze this year even though my group base was still really rough. I was super happy about that Bronze! Like I said my group base was really rough and unfinished, but I don't think it counted against me since it was sort of optional anyway. Marikan To was my first major attempt at lining. Mostly on her wraps and on her quiver. I think her skin needed more highlighting but I'm not really sure how to highlight smooth skin yet. The Beastmaster I think turned out pretty good. I was very happy with the faces on his armor. His skin looks like it could use a touch more shade, but otherwise I'm happy. The Hounds of Nozuki were a bit tricky since their fur had no detail I had to try and figure out how to make it look interesting (I had the same issue with Marikan To's hair). I think they turned out ok. I was getting a little burned out on the bases by the time I got to these guys. Marikan To's bird companion. His base took the longest and he was just about the last figure I finished since I wasn't entirely sure how and where I wanted his coloration. Thanks for looking. Let me no if you have any comments, critiques or advice for next time. I'll post some other stuff I've finished tomorrow.

Hey I'm attempting something crazy for Gen con this year, and I need a little help. I am doing a diorama for the MHE painting competition, and the title for the piece is kind of an important part of it. Is it common or acceptable to have the title engraved to put on the base? If not, what is a good way to make the title known? This is something I've never done before so any advice (including general diorama advice would be appreciated. I wasn't planning on doing a WIP, just puting the picture up in Show off after Gen con assuming I get it done in time.

I went to reference one of these minis in another thread and I found I never posted them up here. Looks like I stopped taking photos of my speed painted minis. Usually I do try to take a picture of them before I do touch ups. But these are so old I have no idea if I did touch ups on them before I took the photos or not. However, I leave them here for your enjoyment. Each was painted at GEN CON in 45 minutes, with a communal brush and a limited selection of Reaper paints, and whatever light conditions where at the time. (Bright sunlight is usually the worst actually) *(Note, I think the painter cat is Impact... but it's been so long, I can't remember anymore!)

So, just for fun, here's a shot from the Ringbearer game my brother and I hosted at Gen Con. The ents have been roused and march on the White Wizard's tower. We used a wide mix of vintage fantasy figures for this game, and the five ents here are from five different pre-1980 figure lines. This group is pretty good at identifying classic lead, so try your skills.

Gen Con Badges go up today and Hotel shenanigans begin on Sunday! Who's all planning to go so far? The wife and I will be there. (assuming hotel shenanigans can be convinced to go our way again this year.)

My Gen Con entry for this year. Overall I'm very happy with her. It's one of the best faces I've done so far. Had a lot of trouble assembling her though. The spear arm gave me fits as it snapped off several times and afterwards I couldn't seem to get it on straight and without gaps again. eventually I was able to fill it with a tiny amount of green stuff. Also had a little trouble pinning her to the base. You can tell she's not exactly flat on it, she actually floats a tiny bit above it and I just couldn't seem to fix it. Also she's leaning, less now than she was but she's still leaning. I tried to do some OSL with the parts of the spear near her hand but I just couldn't make it look right. So I abandoned that idea for now.

My Iron wind speed paint. He was just a little guy but I liked him. However I was disappointed when I accidentally over washed him in black and it darkened his purple and red scales too much so that you couldn't really tell the colors. Normally I don't add any more paint a mini that's done, but I felt I needed to add some more purple when I got home to bring him closer to my original "vision".The "Before's" The "After's" I may base him up some day if needed but for now this is what he is.

I really love the Stephanie Law line from Dark Sword Miniatures and Euterpe may be my favorite from the Kickstarter. She was among the first three I prepped and after ReaperCon I started to put some paint on her. I did post a couple pictures in the WIP group thread for the Stephanie Law pieces, but wanted to be careful as I planned on taking her to Gen Con and their rules ask that you do not post finished pictures prior to the show. Her foxy friends were already seen in this thread http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62924-dark-sword-standing-kirin-and-a-few-foxes/ prior to basing of course. Without further ado here are my best photos I could manage. I spoke with DixonGrfx at ReaperCon about Euterpe and was toying with the idea of painting her with sheer cloth, I am glad I decided to go ahead and try more sheer as I feel it worked much better the second time around and worked well on her. Her base was custom built on a wooden block that I took a hacksaw to the corner and added modeling paste, cork, putty and dental plaster rocks. Overall I am quite happy with how this piece turned out and I look forward to painting up a few more muses. Comments and Critiques always welcomed.

Since I was attending Gen Con I knew I needed to make time to paint up an entry for Marike's Rainbow Brush. Why not paint up a miniature to support a great cause right. So with only a couple weeks to spare I chose to Paint up Ser Loras as Renly's Lord Commander Rainbow Guard. I am quite happy I managed to finish him in time, it was touching to see the community come together and it was quite clear at the show how much time and effort Marike put into this event. Presenting my humble entry to the Rainbow Brush and Lord Commander Ser Loras. Of course C&C is always welcomed. And a quick side note who knew painting a rainbow cloak would be so hard.

With Gencon a little over a month away now, it seemed like a good time to start talking about it. Who's going? Who's entering the painting contest? Do we want to attempt a meet up again? Looking forward to it.
