Aunt Vanya:- Uncle Gregor:- While most members of the Family despair at their lost humanity, Vanya and Gregor have embraced becoming the monsters they always knew they were... Presenting Vanya and Gregor, a pair of Ghouls from Games Workshop. These two took far longer to paint than they really should have, but I'm pleased with how they turned out. As always any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

Normally I'd wait until I based this dude, but seeing as how I might use it for a diorama, it'll be a long way away. This was a good use of the Scale 75 line. Easy to blend and suuuuuper matte finish. Almost has a chalkiness to it. I was testing ghoul skin. In my head I was thinking more fleshy tone, but in the end I like the green. Open to feedback on this one's color.

I got four of these guys in that same undead sampler pack I mentioned in my post about the Damned Company. It contained a few different parts, so there was room for a decent amount of customization (there's a ton more parts I didn't even use...into the bits box they go!). For the sake of variety, I ended up using some zombie heads (from the same sampler pack) on two of these guys. So...they can read as zombies or ghouls on the table. I go back and forth on whether or not I like the various spikes they have shoved through their bodies. Overall, I guess it looks okay. I do wish they were made of a *slightly* softer plastic...I'm super-worried about those fingers snapping off at some point. Anyway, I kept the paint jobs fairly basic on the clothing for easy identification during play ("blue guy," "brown guy," and so forth). Blue guy: I think the blue guy is my favorite. They knocked it out of the park when sculpting that particular head. Brown guy: I didn't realize until I'd started basecoating that this guy had half of his face ripped off right down to the bone. Another very cool head sculpt. Green guy: I struggled to get decent pictures of this guy. The camera doesn't seem to like that hunched over pose. Dark Gray guy: Nothing much to say about this guy. He's a guy...he's wearing dark gray...he really needs to see to that exposed brain in the back of his head. Comments and criticism welcomed.

At long last, and in time for the Halloween Season, I finished the last of my Ghouls, who now have a Queen... She also came with a nice gothic window scenery bit, but that will be part of another project later. Here she is with the rest of her minions...

As you continue exploring the cathacomb, you catch sight of a ghastly humanoid creature walk in your direction. The stench of death and rot lingered around its undead forms. You recognize with horror, a minion of the dark necromancer queen Kiaransalee. This is a 77159, Ghast sculpted by James Van Schaik.

Needed a bunch of ghoul types so grabbed a bunch or bones ghasts - and added in one of the bones IV ghouls. Not sure how I feel about the ghasts, I turned out kind of not liking them and regretting the purpleish color. An relearning I should never paint groups larger than 3 - I don't have the attention span.... The grey themed bones iv ghoul made me smile though - quick paints for a graveyard scene. Tried adding some grey mud to the brown.

So I finished the Undead Regiment. Background story.. the Vampire Queen lost a big battle, fled to a swamp/jungle area. Subdued the swampfolk and now faces a rebellion. Some swamp creatures follow her, others oppose her. Here is the full regiment. Mixed Manufacturers. Mixed types of Undead. I will post them separatly or in smaller groups for better pics of them all. I will try not to flood the forum, so today the regiment and the first solo/smaller groups. The rest will follow shortly. The Vampire Queens heraldry is red and purple so all the Undead have this colours somewhere. Also as a sign she is mistress of the swamp, her heraldry has a snake in it, variations are found on the shields and banner. Now the horde:

More from the Bones 4 core set: we have arrived at the subset "Hungering Dead": Yup, these are your archetypical ghouls. Flesh eating horrors out looking for some nosh. Gnawers of bone, eaters of the dead. Which begs the question: do they count as cannibals if they no longer are human? Here is my very fast method of painting ghouls and similar effectively: These started out with a solid black undercoat. Then each was drybrushed several times with different beige tones, such as Citadel Ionrach Skin and Karak Stone. Then they were given washes on the undersides with shades such as Citadel Athonian Camoshade and Team Yankee Ordnance Shade. When dry, they were lightly drybrushed again with lighter fleshtones up to almost pure white, keeping to the top surfaces which leaves a kind of zenithal effect. The base rock were done in dark greengrey, drybrushed with yellowy sand, and then lighter drybrushed with offwhite. Black eye sockets with a white dot for the eye lends a sinister look to them. Dot in some details here and there, bases and done. I did these ghouls and the Grymwatch in a single sitting, taking breaks for drying time only. #123; He brought his very own packed lunch. #124: Subject #B4C-124 displays elongated limbs on a gaunt frame, and a foul disposition when peckish. #125: Obviously the hero of the group. A little too fresh for our tastes... #123-125, the Hungering Dead subset Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Bob Ridolfi Made in Bonesium PVC 30mm bases. should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future in Bones. At least two of these are currently available in metal.

This one was painted for a Frostgrave facebook group challenge, the theme was "undead" My sister uses these guys in her vampire warband for frostgrave and mordheim, so I decided to paint one of them By the way it is around my one year anniversary on the forum, I'm really happy that I've discovered this place about a year ago, it has been a place of inspiration and helpful feedback for me and I hope it will stay the same for the next year Cheers and happy holidays to you all!

Since I got a bunch of Bones Ghasts from Bones 2... or was it 3? Bones 4? Whatever. But I wanted to do something to make them all a little different. So a few simple cuts, and a couple of drops of glue... and I've got some variety in my Ghasts. Now to paint them!

More undead for the table top, because you can never have too many. These guys bring me to 56 minis painted for the year.

My wife went on a backpacking trip for a few days, and I've been using the time to get working on a bunch of painting projects. This is the first that I've finished. I used them to try pigment fixing for the first time, and it was pretty cool! Most of it got covered up by the grass, but this was intentional, and why I chose to use them for my first try. I also had some tree stumps from Secret Weapon, and thought that it would be cool to try painting them like white birch trees. I really like the way that they came out, and I'm sure I'll be doing those again sometime. Enjoy!

Hi all, I thought you might like to see the Mordheim gang I just finished, particularly because it features a bunch of Reaper figures. It's hard to believe I started this over ten years ago. They sat around for years with a good portion done, and lately I've had my old projects in my sites and am finishing them off. Mordheim Undead Gang I wrote about them and shared more pics in a blog post here: https://belchedfromthedepths.blogspot.com/2018/06/mordheim-undead-gang.html More pics of the reaper ones: Reaper Matthias the Twisted, Vampire I shared the vampire already here, so you may have seen him already. New backdrop with this pic for consistency. Reaper Gravedigger Reaper humans are too tall, IMO, to mix in generally with Mordheim figures, but the vampire and gravedigger are conscious exceptions as they fit right in towering over their fellows. There was no way I wasn't going to have this Reaper monkey in the crew. He's from a familiars pack. Reaper Ghouls and Ghast Reaper Hellhounds Last up are these Reaper hellhounds, or dire wolves, in Mordheim game terms. I was and am thinking of them as black dogs of yore like the barghest rather than wolves.

This is the fun Bobby Jackson sculpt 02867: Matthias the Twisted, concept art by Talin. He(?)'s a lassic rat-lovin' nosferatu type vampire with an awesome wardrobe and a great pose. He has a lot of great details, including three tiny rats! (They are 28mm scale. They are really tiny.) WIP thread here.

The GM said we needed a nosferatu, so here we are. This is Reaper's 02867: Matthias the Twisted, a gnarly rattish vampire. All paints used are Golden Matte Fluid Acrylics. Color mixes are (usually) noted, but not exact ratios. Questions are welcomed and I will try to answer them. Critiques are appreciated. This is the way I usually start miniature figures: Lightly primed with Titanium White, then when that is dry, washing it over with Burnt Umber. Burnt Umber is a dark, transparent pigment that settles into crannies when thinned down and shows the details very well. It also gives a nice warm undertone to later paint layers. (I have to remember that I experimented with a cold blue-grey wash on some vampire figures that avoided all the nice warm undertones.) I paint vampires with stark white skin, shaded with flat greys mixed from Titanium White and Carbon Black. This is almost the only time I ever use such a simple mix for greys. The first layer is a thinned white (blodginess is the underpainting showing through). Steps in shading:

Another batch from the Frostgrave (or Mantic, repacked as Frostgrave) Undead set. I needed some ghouls for my D&D game so painted all as ghouls even though some are supposed to be zombies I think. Similar to the skeletons. very crisp models and great fun to paint. Thanks for looking and C&C is very welcome.

Just finished the Mi-Go from the black goat faction and thought I would put up pictures of them and the cultists and ghouls I finished before. C&C always appreciated!

A couple of multibases for Kings of War (one horde and one troop), including a more practical use for big K (he's just too big for wargaming with). Lots of shots. I had originally only intended to paint up the horde, but found I was running out of room on the base for the original number of minis I wanted to paint, so I added a few more and made the troop to go with it. Thanks for looking!

The Undead Horde by Mantic Miniatures Skeleton (10) Ghouls (2) Zombies (3) Table Top Quality Got these guy from a Box of Goodwill Exchange and I tell you what exactly what we needed for our up coming Frostgrave game we are going to playing. _________________________________________________________________ Your intrepid warband marches confidently on the outskirts of the frozen city. After a long campaign clearing out the area your brave band of soldiers are ready to pursue deeper in to the white laden ruins. The cold wind, although bitter, has become manageable for your warband. Swiftly the winds begin to rush in from the inner part of the frozen Acropolis, deathly cold. Visibility is no more than twenty to thirty feet in front. Ahead you can see the white and grey haze of snow concealing the ruins. Your captain shouts, "halt" as the warband freezes in it's tracks. A slight sound of creaking then the dull murmur of metal sliding across stone and ice. The sound echos through the winds shaking your men to their cores. Slowly but suddenly a troop of skeletons flanked by two heavily armoured skeletons appear in the distance. It's just as you feared... _________________________________________________________________ -=The idea was to make them look like they are slowly marching out of the snow blind. It's so cold snow is sticking to them. =- -= The snow flocking turned out better than I expected. I copied the techniques of some fellow Frostgrave players here on the forums and I'm very pleased with how it turned out. Although with these it's hard to see but some other Frostgrave miniatures (which you'll see later) It turned out excellently. =- -=This has been an entire painting season for me. LOTS of wargaming stuff and it is all finished around now. I hope you guys like it.=- This was one of my second attempt at OSL. It turned out pretty good. __________________________________ Work in Progress for these miniatures.

The Undead Horde by Mantic Miniatures Skeleton (10) Ghouls (2) Zombies (3)I Got these guy from a Box of Goodwill Exchange and I tell you what exactly what we needed for our up coming Frostgrave game we are going to playing. ____________________________________________________________________ I used some Greenstuff to make a square insert for the "banner holder" guy. Not sure really what to do with it. I think I am going to make it into a glowing light. That light will also be in theirs eyes. As if they are strengthened from it. Duel priming: Goat of Grey then an over lay of white. After having done this spray method a few times now I have learned to make the top a majority white.I learned this from Massive Voodoo. I also put a coat of Terrain Khaki on the Skeletons With the Zombies I decided on a green tone:The body is first painted in Leather White in layers (1:3)*. Then washed in a Green Wash(VJ). (1:3) Next I used Malvernian Purple in the deep recesses (1:2) Here is the set of 5 none Skeleton miniatures. The Ghouls, I did a kind of reverse of the Zombies:The body is first painted in Leather White in layers (1:3)*. Then Washed in Malvernian Purple(1:3) Then washed in a Green Wash(VJ). (1:3) Next I used a Malvernian Purple in the deep recesses (1:2) ____________________________________________________________________ That's it for now. I am adding the final touches to the non-skeleton ones now then going to approach them. Questions and comments are always welcome. Additionally, tip or suggestions on the direction I should take are also welcome. Thanks! *I thin down all my paints usually with Flow Improver - first - then Water. Example: a 1:3 ratio is 1 drop of paint to 2 parts Fi and 1 part water.

Last night I decided to slap some paint, and seeing as it was Halloween, I grabbed for a vampire! It was already primed... though I don't remember exactly what color I used. I used Imperial purple for the cloak, vampire shadow for the skin, and gore red for the shirt. The red spilled, so I snagged the ghast to mop it up. Both of these guys are destined for speed paint tabletop quality rather than anything snazzy. However I may spend some time on the vampire's face to see if I can apply some of what I learned at ReaperCon. We'll see...

Just a relatively quick tabletop job, probably for Frostgrave or Song of Blades. Finished in two days' painting sessions while working on other stuff. Tried a glaze of Clear Magenta on the skin, which I really liked. Might start doing that more often for flesh, really warms it up. As always, the gore effects are done with Tamiya clear red and Army Painter Quickshade ink. C&C welcome!
