Reducted painting & forumming this week due to fibro but have finished this guy. I have an ambition to paint all the miniatures for Against The Giants - 30 odd years ago we had 3 actual "giant" figures and improvised.... Reaper Bones have been fantastic but A lot of the monsters are giant servants -weaker than the fighters ( hill giant servants fight as ogres), Gary did allow room for the servants to make deals with the party to avoid being killed ( we just killed them - twice...). I couldn't find any Giant Servant figures but then I thought of Heroforge....turns out that XL figures printed double size make very reasonable giants - and they are fun to design. I added the patch and the waistcoat belt ends with Green Stuff This is the first one finished. I made a big cock-up in the design -the cat was meant to be Mrs Norris like - but I managed to have it overlap with a bottle - so one paw is missing and the other goes through the bottle...I thought it could be a ghost, then an alcoholic delusion so a pink cat...a cat that was only part there... Butler is probably the brightest hill giant, being part-cloud giant. On a visit to relatives, he noticed that the cloud giants' servants tended to be in control of cellars, food, etc., and spotted an opportunity. Filching a velvet waistcoat, now extremely worn, and adding pinstripes to his trousers, he effectively placed himself in charge of the steading's supplies, and has built up quite a collection of coins and potions (etc.). Unfortunately, he has also been drinking sneakily from both the alcohol supplies and the potion stocks. Hence now he is followed by an irritating pink and purple cat who most of the time no one else can see...

This was a surprise Christmas present from very kind friends with a printer. The figure is amazing the level of detail and thought is incredible. Which is why it has taken me since Boxing Day to try and do it justice - painting the glyphs was something I could only do for a few minutes before my hands gave up . I've attempted variation of light and weathering and the colours are I hope as authentic as watching every single documentary on National Geographic, Discovery + and the BBC about Aztecs, Inca and Mayans can get me.. The figure is huge and I was lucky to have the chance to paint it

I picked this up ages ago at a wargames fair I think from the Bring and Buy. No idea what the original story was - the blocks under the skulls each have a rune or a Roman numeral but I don't think the runes are from the same alphabet...and the helmet in the ashes is Greek. The cauldron though battered has the remains of raised decoration. But it is quite a fabulous piece and as a bonus the two parts can be used separately... Not sure what the hill giants have seasoned their Man-Stew with to get it that colour. I decided that they have come across the self-heating skulls artifact and used it. These Hill Giants I painted a few years ago have Neolithic tastes ( jewellery and tattoos) but have obviously raided a castle somewhere and adapted tapestries etc to wear. Slaine is a standard 28mm figure for scale....

Sometime Commander of the Armies of Muspellheim, General of the Volcano Legions, Servant to the true Emperor Surtr...it is said he once 'borrowed ' Sleipnir and made the Bifrost run in less than 12 parsecs...and that he slew the ice dragon whose skin he wears while playing truant from kindergarten using the family sword on which he teethed...it is said that the diamond encrusted bracelets of Storm Giant strength he wears were a gift from Zeus himself...Stig and Loki were on a stag do in Sparta and weighed in on the side of Heracles and the Argonauts in a barroom brawl against Ra and the crew of the Solar barque....Best Giant figure yet from Reaper enjoyed every minute of painting

Current Hill Giant roster think there may be one Reaper Bones to go...Bit of an ongoing project to have a full set of miniatures for Against the Giants...hence the young Giant who as you can probably tell started as an Invisible Bilbo action figure from the Pound shop...my headcanon is that his proud mum nicked blankets and hides to make his nice clothes...Front for interest is our first Hill Giant either Grenadier or Ral Partha from the mideighties-there has been some size drift 😉

Presenting Zeus, the Storm Giant from the Bones 5 Kickstarter (I don't think he's had an official release yet). Really pleased to get this big guy finally in the finished pile! In places he's painted a little simply for something on this scale, but overall I'm happy with him. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

Hello All, Here are photos of a 77336 Dark Heaven Bones "Stone Giant" I completed early last year. Thank you for looking.

Okay, I picked up this particular cloud giant at 40% off in the clearance section at the local FLGS. First section I hit when I get there every few-to-six months. It's been sitting here next to my chair in the living room under consideration for addition to the Joten Horde for a bit. One of the first things I was concerned with was the color under the translucent "air" effects. When I paint the skin the spot under the "air" will look different than the skin tones. So after some internal debate about how to proceed with everything I figure the clear effects needed to be dismantled and the cloak needs to come off so I can get at his right arm. This is where I learned that WizKids/Gale Force decided to take a shortcut on getting the effects of the air. ... *facepalm* The entire miniature is made of translucent material and they just "primed" the non-air parts. There's one exception to this; the ruff around the neck. That means the head, the hand, and the legs where the other translucent effects exist are not multiple pieces as I had originally imagined, but are, in fact, one piece each. Arg... I'll be disassembling the ruff as well as the "pauldron" so I can at least paint under that piece of "air." Anyway, stay tuned and enjoy. We'll see what I can wrestle out of this. Ps: The jewelry on the face reminds me of the emperor from the movie "300."

I've been working on this guy for the better part of a month and just finished him tonight. He was a blast to paint, and I'm pretty happy with the finished product. The green wrappings could have probably used some more intense highlighting, but I'm not gonna lose sleep over it. Initially, I wasn't a big fan of the vultures (I put them off until the very last phase of painting). But, one I got some paint in them, they grew on me.

Last one for a bit, I swear! This one isn't a Reaper mini, but I had to share it because it is actually seeing game time! I am using it as the BBEG for the excellent introductory module "A Most Potent Brew" by Winghorn press. My kiddos have just encountered this beast, and it definitely spooked them a bit! Next session is the climactic final battle! I have a poster of the dungeon and everything - it has been really fun so far, and I plan on using it as a lead in for LMoP. If they survive.

I wasn't sure if I should post this in Show off or WIP, but I figured here and if you would please forgive the in progress parts in the subsequent post. Ron let me paint this lovely sculpt by Gene Van Horne. Actually, I think I might have begged to paint it and considered stealing it from his office if he refused. She'll be in the Greek Odyssey Expansion for Bones V. If by some miracle you have come to this forum and not heard of Bones V, it can be found here. Aaron Lovejoy was awesome and took some high definition photos of her after last Reapercon. I really love this sculpt, can't say that enough. She's got some fantastic detail, lots of good open space to work on blending or freehand, even a scenic base to play with stone effects. While I loved the original Yephima by Patrick Keith, and still use her in my classes, this one really screams warrior to me. I need to paint my bones version when I get it as Athena. I'll have to add a shield somewhere, though. Maybe convert the club to a spear. Decisions decisions. Anyway, feel free to ask questions. I'm happy to explain or help with anything! I'm going to post the WIP pictures I have in another post, so hopefully those will also be useful. Enjoy!

Hey everyone, here's 02953, Cyclops sculpted by Tim Prow. It stands on a 25mm base and is 40mm tall to the top of the head. I've wanted to paint this model for a long time, it's been patiently waiting on the shelf for months. I finally found time to complete it last night during a late night session. I painted the grass on the base so it would look like orange tundra moss instead of regular green broccoli. What do you think?

I was experimenting with different tones of grey with airbrush zenithals, and oil washes, to try and get the skin looking stone giant-y, yet subtly different and more 'living' than rock. The green gem necklac was a bit of a throwaway idea and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. . . .

Presenting the Frost Giant Heroine from Reaper. Not my best work, I'm still not great at getting all the mold-lines off these PVC minis, plus I was painting her to help work through some issues I was having so she's a bit on the rough and basic side. Was still a lot of fun to paint up though, I'll have to get the other one done now. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

These guys were fun. I did two of them over the summer, experimenting with color blending. The first was a take on the Chesapeake blue crab, and I might have gotten a little carried away with the bright color, The second one I did in a more subdued sea crab coloration:

A different take on my second frost giant queen and I tried out some freehand on her skirt and cloak. I wasn't able to take Brice Cocanour's class at RVE but I was able to watch it on youtube and took his technique and tried out my own designs Edit: Forgot to mention she is my trio entry with @Evilhalfling and @Kuroneko. .

Now that I've finished the Frost Giants I'm moving onto something a bit warmer, Fire Giants. Currently I've boiled, primed, and base coated skin on all 5. Several will probably need an additional skin coat but so far so good. Pictures in spoiler.

Never heard of this before but it's a cool monster. Not sure when or where you'd run into one, but I bet it will be the most inconvenient time and place. According to online sources they come in all colors, so I loosely based mine on a green iguana.

Good Friday everyone, I just took some pictures of the 02479, Ettin I completed last night. This is a Dark Heaven Legends metal model that was sculpted by Jason Wiebe. It stand on a 50mm base and I painted it with Reaper MSP paint. Coincidently, I was delighted to see the amazing upcoming two-headed Troll also sculpted by Jason Wiebe that was announced last night during Reaper Live #117 on Twitch. (see the image under spoiler and the end of the post).

Tere Reaperlased! So here's another miniature from the days gone by, a Julie Guthrie Female Giant, originally in her All Things Dark and Dangerous line. This is apparently version two of the miniature. The first one I painted maybe a year or so ago, a more primitive looking hill giant lady, who has always been one of my favorite figures Julie has sculpted along with her female centaur Julie Guthrie Hill Giant Julie Guthrie Centaurs Anyhoos, here she is: and then afterwards a comparison photo so you can see her against one of her contemporaries, a female mage: once again, color choice was so hard and I have no idea where the inspiration for purple hair came from. I think it was due to the fact that she wasn't a earth-tone hill giant, but a little more civilized. And we all know most civilized women have purple hair. Anyhows, hope you enjoy!

For your consideration I present my take on the Golan, Hill Giant. This was painted by me as part of a contest for a Twitch streamer I follow. The challenge was to push your boundaries and do something you had never done before. I chose this model because I had never worked on something with this much skin before and I really needed to practice my skin tones. I went with a more earthy look in the color pallet and am pretty happy with how it turned out. C&C welcome

Working on the Stone Giant. I'm looking for any constructive criticism but especially of the highlighting on the flesh. Not sure if I am finished or if it needs more highlights on the flesh. Everything else just is base colors and has not been worked on other than that. He came missing the the left hand and club.

My exchange partner this time around was @Corporea. She was one of those troublesome ones that are fine with anything. This of course means that I am free to do anything, so what I did was use her as an excuse to test out airbrushing my Vallejo Air Metallics. Because of that this mini is a little more metallic than I might have otherwise done. The aluminum didn't want to airbrush, or hand brush for that matter, so I may have a bad bottle. Other than that they all worked as expected. I.e. you can create a TMM effect by combining these paints with a regular paint for the shadows. I also tried my hand at a mosaic tile base. The area I started with isn't as good as the rest of the base, but seeing as I am already late I didn't go back and take even more time to repaint that area. Overall I thought it turned out pretty well, though I don't believe I'll be doing it on cork again. While I thought the imperfections in the surface could work as missing tiles, in practice they just ended up being in inconvenient places. But unfortunately I had to stick a mini on it. Full frontal metal shiny. And rotating around for those that want to look. I also attempted to create the look of texture by applying leather colors in a series of parallel lines. I kind of liked it but at the same time I'm not sure that it comes across as any particular type of texture. And that's it for my 2019 exchange. Next year I might even try to be on time.
