Couldn't really think of a fancy title. I've used "a fox paints a busty bust" in other places, but that doesn't quite fit the naming conventions requested here Anyways, for a long while now I've wanted to paint a bust, but couldn't really find one that actually pulled my attention fully. Many were neat, but most of them were also incredibly expensive, with even more expensive shipping on top of that. This is where we introduce Mr Resin Printer, who actually doesn't have a name other than the "Mars 2 Pro" that's written on it's front.. There's just something about this bust, not sure how to put it, but in the end, I wound up choosing her even though others may be more to my style, like White Werewolf Tavern's Minotaur. I still plan on printing and painting him, but Meirsoa actually made it to the printer, so clearly she won that battle. So first up, we have the bust itself, after a bit of wet sanding to clear up some things where I was either too rough with support removal, or where some scuffs had happened. How tall is she? Glad you ask. From left to right we have a Spires Biomancer for Conquest (Para Bellum Games), Pathfinder Red Dragon (Reaper Miniatures), and Sir Captain Fuzzbutt (Bandai Eevee Quick! plastic model kit). And a second height comparison, after being primed in Monument Hobbies' ProAcryl Dark Neutral Grey Primer, which rather quickly has become my new favourite primer. Brush applied because my compressor's dead, but it behaves rather nicely. Three rounds of drybrushing later, here's where we are. First was ProAcryl Dark Ivory, second was Bright Ivory, and third was 3:2 Bright Titanium White to Bright Ivory. While this is technically an attempt to recreate zenithal highlighting with drybrushing, I've done it mainly for two reasons: to bring out the detail, and to make life a lot easier as I'll be painting her in mixed media. Oils where they provide key benefits, like skin, fur, and cloth, and acrylics where starker transitions aren't an issue. So, what are my plans for her? Like usual, I don't really have a set plan, although a few things are here that I know I'd like to do... African Wild Dog (aka "wild spotted doggo") fur pattern as inspiration, orange involved as the primary colour of her fur, alongside something resembling black and cream. Quite possibly a fourth colour in there too, some sort of reddish earthy tone perhaps? purple and blue, aka blurple cloth. some sort of earthy colours for her hair. More than likely this will be either Gamblin Reclaimed Earth colours, or some sort of equivalent from the ProAcryl line. I expect this one to be a bit slow for updates, not just because of the use of oils, but especially since I have like six different projects on my desk, and dance between them all... That and I'm about to start a new 3d printer build as well.

His arm must be hiding some really strong muscles to be able to swing that GIANT flail. So do Gnoll Clerics cast spells? If so they should be Gnoll appropriate. Like making someone drool uncontrollably. Or giving someone fleas or the Mange.

Every so often, a model catches my attention. Sometimes because it is excellent and inspiring, sometimes because there is something off about it. Sometimes the model is both. Here is one such example: Yeah, it is the angle of the buckler thats just wrong. It simply should not happen. It triggers my OCD. This is the "Gnoll Warrior" from the "Thank You pack" add-on in the second Bones kickstarter. During the kickstarter it was presented as a line concept drawing and as is usually the case, the resulting miniature ends up slightly different. Still a perfectly good representation of the original concept art, but anyhow. That said, I do understand that one-piece castability requires certain angles and alignments for the mould to work, and to get the detail in the shield to show it cannot be sideways in the mould. There have been plenty of examples of minis in strange poses and/or holding things at strange angles because of this. This Gnoll is also stylistically rather different from the other Gnolls Reaper makes in Bones, perhaps it's just not so comic-like? But I ramble. The other day as I yet again was perusing the Drawers of Doom™, I picked this one for the painting table. But first it got to meet Mr. Scalpel for a field amputation followed by a quick rotation and graft: One drop of superglue later the case of the misaligned buckler was solved. Add a base and some paint: Good thing classic Bones material is really easy to slice and reposition. Such an excellent material for convertions as well. Jagged white parallells of sharp fangs emerged into the campfire light, then a staring yellow eye. Inquisitive, roughly probing clawed fingers followed. Snorting, foul breath enveloped me, causing me to gag. It jerked its beast-like head back, loud barks of mocking laughter spraying spittle in my face as I tried to stand my ground. "I smell fright, little man", the gnoll rasped out at last. "Why's that parlay-totem here?" Okay, I couldn't really resist the silly title that had a touch of alliteration... Guess it's a thing for me or something. Anyways, I figured I'd want to do up a long-term WIP thread featuring a themed army that has the goal of being made mostly of Reaper miniatures... That and hey, I like gnolls and minotaurs, so... Why no! Not quite certain what the precise theme is just yet, but we'll roll with "spots and stripes are awesome, as is a love for axes and mythology in general" as the starter of it all. Initially, this army will be made mostly (if not all) with Bones figures, but eventually metal minis will find their way in. Bones are rather convenient with their pricing, and there is a wide selection on offer! It's also something to paint other than my various Games Workshop armies (Tau, Catachans, a scattered amount of Space Marines, a few Tyranids (for now), Skaven, as well as (fantasy) Orcs, although I have nowhere near as many greenskins), and my main focus is purely on fun, with fluff to come as things go. That and I very much so plan on spending a good amount of time on each mini, not just for detail, but to improve my own skills in general. One could potentially argue that I intend on making these guys more of my "showpieces", which is something I don't mind the thought of at all I like how @Glitterwolf formats their posts, so... I'm thiefing parts of it, as it's a nice formatting, and of course provides a reasonable amount of detail for it all, so why not Pictures were taken with my mobile phone (Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge) because at the time I didn't quite feel like messing around with my G85 - or something to that effect ~_^ First and foremost, we have double trouble with a handsome hunk, I mean a minotaur who means business! 77012 Gnoll Warrior, 77013 Minotaur, and 77236 Bloodmane. White bones doesn't quite look appropriate in my eyes as it's "naked", so let's fix that... ^Both gnolls now have primer on them... And of course the couple of mold lines I missed are blatantly visible... Not that I mind, it's always nice to find them NOW other than a few hours into things... I'm planning on going somewhat darker for their fur, hence why the medium-ish grey priming job. Paint used: 09108 Brush-on Primer 09065 Grey Liner Two parts primer, three parts grey liner, one drop of water to improve flow. ^Not to be outdone, our fearless minotaur jumps into the fray as well, although somewhat lighter than the gnolls. Something about how a fox is thinking about going with a more "traditional" medium brown. Would have used brown liner, but, uhm, don't have that, so grey liner it is. Paint used: 09108 Brush-on Primer 09065 Grey Liner Three parts primer, two parts grey liner, one drop of water to improve flow. ^And since I just had to have him on my last order, here we have most of what I'll call our first leader, or even general of it all, 77376 Minotaur Demon Lord, partially test-fit. I ran out of time to get the mold lines on the other six parts, but I'll be working on that today. Goal is to have him assembled today, and quite possibly primered as well. I'm not quite certain as to precisely what colour I'll be going with on him, but for some reason an almost "aflame" reddish-coppery-orange with hints of brown in it come to mind.

Hi guys, back again after a long absence... again. I took a very long time to paint something that was supposed to be a speed paint. I was painting a Bones Finari and wasn't happy with the cast so I was just trying to get her done quick to get her off the shelf but then everything went wrong with the paint job and I stalled out for a long time. I'm not posting her because I wasn't happy but I've finally moved on. This is my Gnoll Warrior. I kind of like him. He is part of my new strategy to just paint and get used to the motions and not try to be perfect all the time. Trying to be perfect puts more minis on shelves of shame instead of in display cabinets. I thought his mane looked a lot like a mohawk so I decided that maybe he would dye it in the colours of his tribe or clan or war party or whatever. I thought it was neat. If I did it again I would maybe use more muted colours but this first time I was afraid maybe muted colours would fade out and go unnoticed. I was happy with the eye and jaws on his right side but not his left (which is why there are no good pictures of his left side ). But here he is, he's imperfect and I'm happy with him! This is a heavy detailed bust from Legendarion. Meet Gebhuza the Hyena Warrior. In my mind he's an assassin / Bodyguard type, look at all those knives he's carrying besides his sword, I tried to make him into a Spotted Hyena. Hope you guys enjoy him. I'm a little (a lot) behind on my threads, and even more so on getting to work on May's figure of the month. It didn't help that I didn't order him until the middle/end of the month. I started last night... Prep was done in the usual way, first by washing in warm soapy water, then attaching him to the cork. I then cleaned up mold lines, though I missed a few. Mainly the one running across his knuckles on his left hand. Then I painted on a 5:2 brown liner & flow improver mix. As you can see below, I'm working on a few other minis too. The orc and werebat will get their own threads later. Tonight was blocking in base colors, and working a bit on the skin. I'm sticking with the gnoll theme I did way back in the chainmail days with the gnolls all being demonic, to one extent or another. So they all get greyish fleshy faces, hands, and feet. I used Void blue for that, then mixed in cloudy grey to bring the color up. The fur was Nut Brown, with the ruff getting some Vallejo Red Leather. The cloth is Dragon Red, as are the lips. Everything that is going to be metal got a coat of Black. And that's where I'll pick it up tomorrow! Thanks for looking. C&C welcome!

So I finally got tired of this guy, and basically finished him up, put him on the base and called him done.... Tried a few new things with him, such as adding an off white to the base color of his skin for high lighting, as well as the work on his "Skirt" Overall, I am certainly happy with him as a piece to be used eventually in a Frostgrave campaign... Here are some gnasty gnolls for your enjoyment! Tried to do some work on groups with an army/matching uniform look... ... And some highlighting on raised areas (the gnoll's left knee). The lighting isn't super great in these pictures (sorry!) but I promise you all they DO have spooky red eyes, as per the usual evil hunters. This poor tribe of gnolls has been sitting on my desk half finished for well over a year. I decided I needed to clear them off, so I did enough to get them up to tabletop. I'm not happy with the coloration on the fur, but I still have more to learn there. Luckily I have a big pile of Bones to practice on.

I can almost smell how bad this guy reeks.. and that greasy hair ugh.

If she's a cleric, I'd really hate to meet one of their high priestess... I've posted a few pics of her before, in my 'Gadgetman! is messing with paints' thread, and even in the SirForscale competition thread, but now that she's finished, she wanted her own thread. (I've been working on her for a couple of weeks now. Speed painter? who, me? ) Can I remember which colours I used? Fur is AP Monster Brown, with the mane and snout getting a hit of MSP Dragon Black. Leatherwork is MSP Bones 09428 Saddle Brown. I kind of like the red tint of this. Her weapon is MSP Honed Steel and Blackened Steel, with a bit of Adamantium Black smeared liberally here and there on the ball. The Armor is AP Weapons Bronze, with the spikes more Blackened Steel. The belly portion I think is more Honed Steel. Her cloth is MSP Bones Heraldic Red. The Base got hit with Desert Sand, some Moss green and Lichen Green. The wash used on her armor and on the base is Coat D'Arms Superwash Dark Brown. The whatever it is hanging on her hip is hanging by something painted in carrottop Red, with Orange Highlight. The roll on her back? It was basecoated with Dragon Black... the rest is lost in a fog... A couple of jewels were made with Tamiya Clear Red.

I'd like to see what a gnoll was originally intended to look like. Gnome + Troll does not equal hyena man. Anyway, his arm seemed to fit better this way. Maybe he has his own unique style.

Starting my Gnoll/Orc/Gnoll/Orc pattern until I run out of Gnolls. Then I'll splice some other monster in between my many orcs.

First Gnoll I've painted in a long while. He was fun. I think i'll paint the rest now.

I painted these guys some 17 years ago? Maybe a little longer? I can't remember what manufacturer they are. Did Ral Partha start making 28mm minis right before they mysteriously disappeared? I have some savage orcs too that are from the same line I think.

Meet Gnancy the Gnoll. A friend of mine had the idea of a gnoll character who was considered too beautiful to live among the gnolls (their patron goddess Lamashtu exalts deformity and ugliness). So she left the gnolls to pursue a life among humans, and became a paladin of Sarenrae - pathfinder's neutral-good sun deity. It was so delightfully incongruous, I had to paint her! I started with the bones gnoll warrior, but did a lot of converting. I mended the tattered kilt, and added a sunburst image to the belt buckle. I replaced the mace with a scratch-built scimitar, which is Sarenrae's preferred weapon. But I'm most proud of the shield, which I converted into a giant holy symbol of Sarenrae. Hooray for greenstuff! Now Gnancy and her party are about to begin their quest through Katapesh. I hope to have the others painted soon!
