  1. Hey there! It's been awhile. I've painted a few things recently, but it's been sporadic. I have plenty of minis to paint, but have been fighting sometimes to find the mood to or to find time. Anyway! Personal crap aside, here is my rendition of the frost giant from the Nolzur's Marvelous Unpainted Miniatures line, which seems to be the same sculpt as the Harshnag from the Icons of the Realms series of pre painted minis. Enough of my blabbering, on with the pics! Unfortunately I didn't push the contrast a ton here. It's clear to see in hand, but it doesn't really show up in the photos all that well. Still good practice though. And he'll terrify my players all the same.
  2. So, not a Reaper mini, but I got my hands on one of these. I wanted to try painting one up differently than I typically see, where they're largely blue, red, or brown, since the Monster Manual mentions no two beholders are alike. That said, sometime I'd like to get another one to paint up more "traditionally," despite likely never needing to have two beholders on the board at once.
  3. I had some time to paint over my spring break. Said time may have come at the expense of lesson planning, but whatever. It's been awhile, unfortunately. There's plenty I'm not thrilled with here, but I wouldn't die of embarrassment from him hitting the tabletop, so that's something. I haven't had time to practice consistently, so I'm think he looks decent considering.
  4. I actually bought 01589: Father Christmas two years ago, but I hadn't thought to slap paint on him until now. As I'm done teaching this semester, I had time to prime and paint this guy earlier this afternoon. Took me maybe three hours, which has gotta be some kind of personal best. I did chicken out on his eyes though. My brushes aren't super great and I didn't trust myself not to screw up the eyes/his face, so I didn't try them.
  5. It's been awhile since I've painted anything in general, much less a human-sized mini. I also tried giving her lipstick. It isn't great, but not terrible for a first attempt. Just doing something at tabletop quality anyway (or it is for me).
  6. No fancy photos currently of these guys. The quilting on their bracers and belts I decided to paint like dragon scales since giants and dragons have such a long-standing hatred for one another, at least in D&D lore. I love these bigger sculpts!
  7. Got some paint on one of my Bones 3 minis. This is one of the ogre trio. Just phone pics, so I apologize if they look gods-awful. He looks wet because he has a layer of gloss sealer on him. I leant out my matte sealer and I don't have it back yet. When I do, he'll get a coat of that to knock the sheen down. He's destined for the tabletop (as are all my minis really).
  8. So I did up these gentlemen. I made up a story in my head about how they're a trio of brothers who jointly run the biggest, baddest band of bugbears in the land. They'd make decent-ish foils for some low-level adventurers I think. Nothing mind-blowing in hand but they'll look fine on the table, which is generally always my goal anyway. I tried to get some blood-spatter going on, but admittedly I've never really looked into how to go about it. I just drybrushed some red onto their weapons (and Mogg's shield, though you can't see it). It turned out well enough you can tell what it's meant to be I think, but I know there are some stellar examples of it out there. I'll have to look into that for next time.
  9. So while I'm currently running a game already, I've been jonesing to create a new setting. I don't know if it's because my current game is edging on the two-year mark (!) and that part of my brain is just getting antsy, or if it's because I'm afraid for the possible TPK in a few weeks (my PCs are hell bent on fighting a CR25 dragon at level 12), but whatever the case, I've been slowly chipping away at a new setting for my next game. Yesterday I began work on the map! For reference, the scale is 6 miles to a hex. So this is a pretty expansive area.
  10. So! I haven't painted as much as I've wanted to this summer, sadly. I planned to do more, but it just got away from me amid other things. I like how Deenah came out for the most part, but I'm not thrilled with her hair or skin. I'm not sure what to do to make blonde hair look good. Use light browns for a shadow? And then human skin continues to be a hit or miss experience for me. I tried to use the Rosy Skin triad, but I don't know if my skill is just too poor to showcase the difference in tint/shade between the triad colors, or if they need a little help to get them to pop against each other a bit more. Or maybe it's fine. I don't know. Edit: reshot the pics.
