Good sunday everyone, I've made a little more progress on the graveyard I'm currently working on. Here are some terrain pieces I completed last night. These 77534, Tombstones were sculpted by Kevin Williams. The fence and posts are from the 77529, Harrowgate Graveyard Set sculpted by Bob Ridolfi. One of the tombstones is not present on the pictures, I used it on the base of my 77116, Colossal Skeleton. Have a great day!

It feels like an age since I last posted a terrain build, my last build journal (still unfinished) was actually in October of last year, so it has been a while! Anyhow, my circumstances have changed and I have found myself with more free time to enjoy my hobby, and so this week I was able to sit down and start a new build, another photo backdrop, this time a cemetery (sorry no build journal this time, I just wanted to enjoy the project). This one had been on my to do list for ever, the gravestones, coffin and the wall are all Reaper accessories. I had a lot of fun with this one. On another positive note, I've now got some time to go back and revisit my 'Post Apocalyptic Suburbia' build journal. I'm sure many people don't even remember it, but leaving it unfinished has really been bugging me, so hopefully that one will have a much overdue update by the weekend!

Unlike Ernst, Jakob didn't want anything to do with those modern gizmos, that steamwagon Ernst was so fond of? Jakob was convinced it would explode one day. No, he would rely on his silver sword, the Holy Bible and his pistol with silver bullets, they had never failed him before. Jakob didn't have to wait long before he encountered the first abomination, as he suspected it was no match for his sword. Now to meet Ernst, if that contraption hadn't burst into flames by now.. ***************************

It's the perfect time of year to show off this little collection of spooky minis! Giant Bats 44040 These little guys are adorable. They're pretty simple, and it's hard to pick out details in their faces, but I think they're fantastic little minis. Though their size clearly makes them giant bats, I can definitely see myself using them as "normal-sized" bats for Wildshape or Familiar purposes. I specifically used the Little Brown Bat as my coloration reference. More Bat Photos Below: Harrowgate Shrine 77723 Next up is a bit of scatter terrain. This is one of the two models in the Harrowgate Shrines set. What could it be? An ancient omen? The gravestone for a horrific creature? Or perhaps the beast itself is encased in stone! It's not the most exciting of models, but I thought it fit nicely with this little set. I probably should have based it, but I like basing scatter pieces on flat bases and didn't have one the right size for this. Might base it in the future. More Shrine Photos Below: Werebat 77448 And rounding out this set we have the big baddie: the werebat! I really like how dynamic this guy is. Really get the sense he's about to lunge at you, or take off to the skies. I painted him up like the giant bats. Don't love the paintjob, but it works. I really like how his base turned out though. The model comes on a roughly 1" circular base, but he's pretty top heavy. I didn't want to give him a 2" base, but I'm really starting to enjoy basing these oversized models on 40mm rounds. Especially with that tapering rim, they fit nicely without looking out-of-scale compared to other "medium" sized creatures. More Werebat Photos Below: So what's the story? Crawling back from the dead here with this fun little handful of zombies! Added some gravestones to a few of them using popsicle sticks. Just good ole' classic grave crawling zombies. Went for a dusty color palette. Which one do you think turned out best?

I did this one a while ago. My first attempt to recreate the painted version on the packaging. I'm just missing the foliage. This was super fun! :D

I created a little Graveyard. The Crypt and the Raven are resin models from Minimonsters, the Skeleton rising from the grave is 02043 from Reaper. The Tombstones and Fence are from the Reaper Bones III Graveyard Set. The pathway was made with Milliput and I used the Greenstuffworld Cobblestone Rollerpin on it. Enjoy! When I got my Bones III Obsidian Crypt I had a little idea. https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/crypt/latest/77637 I put Kaladrax ( now Discontinued) on it. She made it her throne! I also included some pieces of the Bones III Graveyard Set, and a few other pieces I had laying around. One statue is broken because Kaladrax swung her tail when she landed. I made some roses with the basing stuff @knarthex had send me a while ago. Also my first real attempt at marble. I made red marble and white/yellow marble for the Crypt. I picked up an airbrush kit on sale back in November. It came with two brushes, a compressor, and some other stuff. Here is a picture: The brush that I have been using mostly so far is the Badger Patriot 105. I say mostly because I have sprayed paint through it more than once, lol. I started with the bottom fed one (the 350) for one sitting of like 30 minutes, then tried another sitting with the 105 for like 30 minutes. I have since used the 105 for something like three sittings of 30-60 minutes. My total airbrush experience is something like 2.5 hours plus another 1.5 hours of cleaning and practice assembly. I have primarily just tried primers. The latest attempt has been applying Vallejo Surface Primer (black) to some of the graveyard set, namely the crypt and the fencing. Here are those results (minus a rogue golem arm that missed being airbrushed until I cleaned up and was later brushed with the same color in order to prevent having to clean the airbrush for one piece): I am thinking that I might try and use my Dwarven Forge paints to make this match the Dungeon terrain I have, but am not sure yet...and if I do go that route, would it be better to go with my typical dry rush route or should I be trying to apply colors on top of this with the airbrush? Or is there a different approach that I should be taking?

I finished the Obsidian Crypt from the Bones 3 kickstarter. I looked at lots of photos of old mausoleums for inspiration. Now, I just need to finish the fence and all of the main cemetery parts will be finished. Then just ghouls, golems, worms, etc to do to complete the entire expansion. I had fun flocking the crypt. I resembled Oscar the Grouch by the time I was finished! I put a couple flickering LED candles inside the crypt to emulate torchlight/candlelight and thought it turned out pretty cool!

Hi all, Here is my take on the Graveyard Golem that came with the Crypt expansion in Bones 3. I tried to give its eyes an eerie glow to show what evil animates it and it also matches the glow in painted on the runes inside the crypt. Finally starting to make headway on KS3! Having kids, mirite?

I've decided to tackle the Graveyard/Mausoleum/Church building, along with the fencing(x2) and various tombstones and other pieces. I'm a bit confused on what these pieces are. 8 came in the expansion and 4 more in the separate fencing add on in the third kickstarter. What are they and what are they used for? I also thought I remembered that there were supposed to be skull fence post toppers included but I can't find that anywhere.

I have finished my graveyard. I added custom elements to the set in order to have a nice diorama and set the scene in autumn. I have also added a Gargoyle but i need a second one for the other pillar.

Hi, I finally managed to post some pictures of the Crypt from the Bones 3 graveyard expansion I painted. I went with a simple paint scheme with a heavy dose of washes and over-brush + dry-brush to cover these large areas and keep them interesting. For the inside, I decided to give the markings on the floor an eerie glow and had fun practicing with my airbrush on the tiles. I really like how they molded the door hinge to allow it to swing open. It allows for some fun pics.. Peek a BOO!

I was happily scrounging through my mountain of unpainted minis when I started to combine some stuff. Anyway. THIS is going to happen now. It will take time so be patient ( I know you're not, but I needed to say it!) I will need a big piece of MDF, and then start thinking about adding the rest of most of the Graveyard set and other stuff to this. Feel free to steal or be inspired. I have tried this with Nethymaul but she needs more conversion to fit on the roof , mainly her tail.. And come on! Kaladrax has the right imposing look for this.

I finished painting my cemetery fences from the reaper 3 kickstarter. I painted them up generally following the same approach as my dwarven forge dungeon tiles. Here's how I painted them: - I primed the pieces with krylon black camo primer - I then painted on a heavy drybrush of Pokorny Base Grey on all the stone parts - I then picked out some of hte stones with Pokorny Earth Stone - I then did a light drybrush with Pokorny Olive Dry Brush - I then mixed together Pokorny Base Grey and Pokorny Stone Edge Dry Brush and did a very light dry brush - Now I worked on the metal - I painted the barts with Americana Ebony Black - I then drybrushed the upper sections of the bars only with Americana Midnight Blue to provide a little color variation - I then did a light drybrush of the bars with Pokorny Base Grey, followed by a similar mix of Base Grey and Stone Edge Dry Brush - I then did an overall wash with Agrax Earthshade I then sprayed them with Testor's Dullcote. It was a quick paint job and should look good when I use them for terrain in my upcoming Deadzone game. BTW I had previously magnetized these and you can see the howto I wrote up here: Here are a couple of pictures of the finished fences.

I wanted to use the cemetery fencing as terrain in wargames, and I wanted to be able to configure the fences any way I wanted, so I decided to try using magnets to hold the fencing together. I first had to decide on how to approach the problem. The straight sections were pretty simple... I could just drill into the ends and install magnets, with the polarity opposite on each end so they can be chained together. For the short sections with a flat on only one end I decided to do do half with one polarity and half with the other, so I would always have an option as to which to use. But for the columns, I had to think a bit. I didn't want to have magnets visible on the outside, and I couldn't figure out how to arrange the polarity so that it would maximize what arrangements would work. Finally I came up with the idea to simply install steel rods in the middle, and then they could attach to the straight sections with either polarity. The gate structure could also be done with steel rods. I measured things out and decided that 3/8" rod would work for the columns and for the inner posts of the gateway piece, and 1/4" rod for the outer portions of the gateway piece. So here's what I used for this: 1mmx6mm neodymium magnets (lots) 3/8" steel rod 1/4" steel rod Straight Sections These were pretty straightforward, except there wasn't a lot of room for the 6mm magnets. I had to make sure the holes were accurately placed. I usually use 1/4" drills for the 6mm magnets but because this was really tight I decided to use a 6mm drill. When I need to be accurate, I usually start with a tiny hole and use a pin vise to get the hole centered right. I then drill larger and larger holes. This is because with the larger drill bits, the drill often catches in the plastic and draws itself in, potentially ruining the piece. It works much better if I only take out a little bit of plastic each time. So here is a shortened sequence of the hole drilled (I actually used 8 drills of increasing size for each hole). Here is how it looked inside after drilling it out: And then I glued in the magnets with super glue. I decided to use 8 magnets in each end which is probably overkill but these magnets were pretty cheap... And here's how it looks from the end: Columns Now the Columns were a little tricky. Here's what I finally ended up doing. - I drilled down through the top with a 5/16" drill bit and went all the way through the bottom. This insures that the hole in the bottom is centered. I had to hold the column with pliers to keep from wrenching it out of my hand. I used leather to keep the jaws from marring the surface but cloth should work fine. - I enlarged the hole in the base with a 3/8" drill bit. This was really tricky since as I said before, with large bits the drill tends to catch in the plastic and draw itself in so this must be done with care. What I ended up doing was to drill in just a little bit, then reverse the drill and repeat, doing this several times. This way the drill bit would only carve out small sections of plastic at a time, then when the drill was reversed that divot of plastic would break off. Then when it goes forward again, it would take out a new piece of plastic, etc. I have a cordless VSR drill that I use for this that has really good slow speed control. I wouldn't try to do this with a power drill that didn't have good slow speed control. I only needed to drill in about 1/2"-3/4" deep. - I cut a 1/4" long piece of the 3/8" steel rod. I used a file to clean up the burrs, otherwise it would be much harder to get into the column. - I forced the piece of steel in the hole in the bottom of the column. I had to inset the steel piece about 2mm to get the pieces to sit correctly. If the steel is in too far, the straight section will not sit evenly on the table. If it isn't inset far enough, then the column won't sit evenly on the table. Gateway This also was a little tricky. I had to drill out through the bottom with a 1/4" drill and a 3/8" drill. Here's how it ends up looking: Again, I had to adjust the depth to get the straight sections to sit flat on the table. I didn't bother gluing the steel pieces in for the columns or the gateway since they were pretty tight fits. Here are all the pieces with steel installed: So now I can configure the fencing in many different ways, and it's resistant to accidental bumps. Here are a couple of configurations: I'm leaving the columns with open tops for now since someday we'll get cool new tops with Reaper 4. I hope this is helpful!

OK, so this is one of those "good enough!" moments and I am calling this done! This, actually being the stage for many of my firsts.. My first diorama for starters, my first attempt at making a wire-tree, the first time I used an airbrush and my first (albeit failed) entry to a competition. And it is the moment to call it quits, declare it finished and present to you for much desired C&C. Unfortunately my photography is still very much lacking :( Oh and the reason I couldn't make it to the competition is that I have to go on a business trip abroad on the very day that it will be held.. Oh well, there is always next year I guess.. Thanks for looking.

Hi, Here is my take on the Carrion Worm from Bones 3 Graveyard expansion. The chubby and cute look (if you forego the big fangs) made me want to paint it a bit like a pink grub. C&C welcome

Now, I've done dioramas, and I've done scenic bases, and I've dressed up maps and suchlike, and I've certainly done terrain pieces... but up until now, I've never actually done a terrain BOARD. Durnit.
