  1. I started Rotpatch last year during spooky season, but didn't finish up in time, so he ended up getting pushed to the back of the painting desk because I was upset at not finishing. Anyway, I got my self in gear and got him done this weekend since Halloween will be here in just 135 days. The base seemed a little plain, so I sculpted some extra pumpkins from green stuff and added a couple of skulls to the base. I figure the skulls make it look like he's been 'busy' as well as adding the feeling that perhaps that's not just rust on his scythe. I hope you like him.
  2. There has been some talk on the boards of people's costumes, the wearing of them and how they change things and what people are working on. So I'd like to throw open the question, What is your costume? It can be any approach. Are you working on one now? Are you a fan who appreciates them but doesn't make them? Do you have a favorite costume? Do you have favorite memories of one? Do you like realism, or abstraction, history, sci fi, or fantasy? Does costuming connect to your gaming or other hobbies? When and where do you wear costumes? Are you making something for another person? Or for a doll maybe? What's your favorite one you've seen? What would you make if you had the materials and time? *** I'll start. I have a reproduction late-eighteenth century dress in a big floral print in shades of red and blue on white, complete with undergarments, big pockets, mitts, a ruffled cap, and cocked hat that I had been wearing to our neighborhood's annual Fourth of July parade. But I've been feeling weirder about it in the last few years since late eighteenth century dress has become political in a direction I am not. So I've found myself turning towards the struggles of the Suffragists a century ago. I've been reading old mail order catalogues from the First World War and checking out the eminently practical suits women wore at the time -- big pockets everywhere! At this point I have plans for nearly everything except a suit. I have undergear and petticoats, a blouse, nearly acceptable shoes, hats to be modified, a good pattern for spats, and a pageant-style banner edged with green and purple ribbon* ready to be painted front and back with "Votes for Women". At this point it would be nice to make a historically accurate suit, but looking at what I have, I think it would be a fairly convincing impression with any reasonably matched jacket and calf-length skirt. *Those are the colors of the English suffragists, not the US ones, but I'm okay with that.
  3. Hey everyone, it's been a while. I prepared a little something for Halloween. Here is my keepsake, The Headless Mousling. This model was sculpted by Gene Van Horne in 2014 for the Reaper Artist Conference. I painted it with Reaper MSP paint. Happy Halloween and stay safe!
  4. Inspired by the weekend question, I took some pictures of the army thus far and found that posting it in the question thread would be excessive, also that I didn't have an ongoing thread for my largest painted army so here it is. The plan is to get my Shelf of Incompleteion cleared off then work on reinforcements for this alongside my Old School Undead army. Here we have the Pumpkin construct unit led by a Storybook Witch from Old Glory. I have 3 more of her, but the bag only came with the one flight stand and the Reaper ones I have don't fit, when I get around that, they'll form their own unit. Behind her is Rotpatch, and the scarecrow is hanging out with these guys until I can get a couple more. The constructs are filling the slot of core infantry. Here is a Ral Partha Witch leading the Pumpkin Knight heavy infantry consisting of the Halloween Knight and converted Barrow Wardens. Willow Greenivy leading the skeletal Pumpkin Guard. 10 newer GW skeletions and a variety of Reaper Bones. Elise with the Pumpkin Chucker and some Bones skeletal archers providing ranged support. A female Necromancer and the Etherial Legion of ghosts and wraiths. An Iconic Witch, Pumpkin Spider, and friends. A converted Brettonian Sorceress with the skeletal heavy infantry. Basically, what happens when adventurers irritate the witches. Bats, wolves, and allied vampires. Another vampire and werewolf allies. Zombies, ghouls, and another Reaper Witch. Beastmen and hell hounds with an infernalist witch.
  5. I was testing the army painter speedpaints. I have to say I'm not a fan. It doesn't allow as much variation. I'm a layer guy. Now i gotta find someone i can offload these to.
  6. Just a set of Halloween fun. Gotta keep going with Spooktober! Vlad "Pull my finger" the Flatulator...less well known, but just as deviant as his cousin the impaler. Tessa the "Crone" Vivian MickJager aka The Lips
  7. I had a lot of fun with this one. I had painted the Overgourd last year, but missed my chance to submit it for my local October contest. I've been waiting to put him into the ring. Funny enough my daughter goes, "Dad he's kind of looking down on something. It'd be cool if there was a guy that didn't know he was there." And that's how the idea for the diorama was born. The pieces were based to be used with something else later. I figured it was a good test to see if i could make some kind of hole for he bases to slot into. Not perfect but not bad. I found two henchmen that were perfect monster fodder. I call this one "always look behind you"
  8. Halloween Knight from Bones 5. Putting him in the theme category at my local IPMS show. Monsters and Machines, the obvious and machines with monster names like a C-130 “Specter” gunship. Pretty sure this fits.
  9. There is something strange going on in the village lately. People hear footsteps like those of a child, things tends to be in a different place then where they left them. Children have nightmares and seem to be afraid of their toys even. And it's getting worse, it started with a few missing pets, but now Old Lady Harrington is missing, nowhere to be found. Could it have something to do with that new girl living at the edge of the village? Her name is Lilith, and she is so friendly, she gave every child in the village one of her handcrafted dolls for free. But still, there's something strange about it all. Constable Burton decided to have a look at her place. So one night he walked to the edge of the village, he saw lights shining through Lilith's windows. He could be wrong of course, such a nice girl, but he had a hunch and he really wanted to know. So he opened the door. The moment he did he knew he shouldn't have... Lilith and the Creepy Dolls are 3d printed on my Elegoo Mars. Design from Dragon Trapper's Lodge. Bookcases are from Minimonster Studios and Reaper Bones. Table and benches fom Reaper Bones. Floor was made with a GreenstuffWorld Rollerpin. Wall is a plasticcard base. Hope you like it
  10. It's that time of year for Orcs...but I already did that. So it's time to get spooky instead! Here's my latest from Bones V (and recent promos) on that front. The Overgourd, since they demand an October paint job: Scarecrows: vampiresses of Ravenhome: Captain Barty Redd: And his Zombie Crew:
  11. Still needs some basing, but he's off to a good start. Interesting how this worked out. I did dry brushing on the first two layers of greens. Then went back in with regular brush and layers, but didn't think it was loud enough. What this? A huge stock pile of BCA pink? Better put it to use. I mixed that into the alien green and base, then touched it up with pink to add some warmth (i mean as warm as aghast should be #dead) in the highlights. Pink and green were a fun combo. I'm not totally into the tattered shirt colors the more i look at it. I may need to use a wash over it, which i try to avoid, to add some dirt/grime look to it. It's too clean and vibrant. But hey, i did layer nicely. Win. I wasn't sure about the facial features. I ended up just touching it up with a little green yellow for discoloration around the mouth, but seems like he still needs something. Next thing i need to do is make a fun base for him. Something Halloween feeling for sure. Thanks @Reaper_Jonfor the ghoulie bags and free minis. Putting them to good use.
  12. Just in time for the season! I happened to be going through some sort of a creativity crisis. I would start on a figure and almost right away stop feeling it. This guy seemed to shake me up quiet nicely. Although, I did get tired at the end and rushed a few things. But, as I remember, the profys recommend "paint more minis" as oppose to sitting over one for eternity trying to get it to perfection.
  13. Jake is looking for someone who enjoys Halloween movies as much as he does! Jake was originally released as a special edition figure for Halloween 2015. He was sculpted by Bob Ridolfi. Since Reaper Miniatures has re-released some of the unavailable Bonesylvanians for Halloween2021, I thought I would share some additional views of the ones I painted, as well as the colours I used. (Note that these figures are metal and sold individually. Not all of the Bonesylvanians originally released in 2014-2015 were made into Bones plastic versions.)
  14. Howie’s fish friend isn’t very much fun anymore, so now he wants to play with you! Howie was originally released as a special edition figure for Halloween 2015. She was sculpted by Julie Guthrie.
  15. If you’re feeling brave this Halloween, Maddie dares you to look her right in the eyes. Maddie was originally released as a special edition figure for Halloween 2015. 17. Worked this one for a good, long while. I am really happy with the cape and takign the time to layer it carefully. I tried to use the method of using dark colors on the exterior areas and use brighter colors where to draw the eye. I also am super happy with the edge highlighting and small details in this one. It took me a while to do the layers, but the outcome was well worth it. I'm leaving the process below in photos on progress. Let me know if you have any feedback or areas I could improve.
  18. Hey! Here are my 02992, Jack O'Lanterns & Pumpkins sculpted by Tim Kaufman and Sandra Garrity.
  19. The main block of the force I was working on in September... Emerging from the corn to defend the patch... ...and the whole force together... Woe to the Pumpkin Smashers!
  20. Hi everyone, here's a crossover I prepared especially for today. This little mouse is a 03535, Halloween Mousling 1 sculpted by Gene Van Horne. I painted her in pinktober colors.
  21. Hello everyone! With Halloween at the door, it promises to be a very colorful month. Here's 01545, Punkin' Headed Bugbear sculpted by Jason Wiebe. This Special Edition Miniature was originally available only at the 2014 Reaper Artist Conference. It was later release under sku: 04044. The base is a 74024, 40mm square plastic base.
  22. The companion unit to the archers presented earlier. The back pumpkin is from a set of doll house decorations, the front two are from the Reaper pumpkin blister. Corn is made by JTT Scenery Products. The shields being large and mostly smooth were conductive to freehanding the pumpkins on.
  23. When the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch on Halloween to bring toys and gifts to the deserving, and a painful smiting to the pumpkin smashers, it is vital that He should covering fire if He needs it.... Four of these were among the first minis I painted for the Army of the Great Pumpkin, and I finally got around to getting them enough friends to make a unit. The large Jack O Lantern is from Reaper's pumpkin pack, I don't remember who manufactured the tree, I picked it up in the model railroad section of a hobby store sometime around 1997. There's also an Army Painter Wasteland Grass tuft. The fence was scratch made from balsa wood. Painted their shoulder skulls orange to represent the skulls of pumpkin smashers dyed with the remains of their innocent victims so as the pumpkin spirits can rest easy knowing they have been avenged... Both the older "white and bendy" Bones and the newer grey "better detailed and not bendy" Bones are in the unit. Later I need to spray primer the elf outta this so the leaves stay put. The increased detail of the grey Bones really made itself evident while painting these.
  24. Another one bites the dust….😆 One of my favorite sculpt…but in the old Bones plastic. I put a little extra into the base, otherwise it was a pretty straight forward zen of Bones quick paint job. Overall I like the scheme and it has given me ideas for when I paint my metal version. Not sure about the green face and the blue glow under the rib cage is too subtle. And as an aside …..the quality of Testors Dullcoat is not nearly as good as it was a decade ago. The newer formulation continues to give me a semi gloss finish. Oh well.
  25. Plenty to paint with the new stuff so started somewhere simple while sorting through the small horde of miniatures that thudded onto the doorstep. In reality the head hasn't turned out that good , thank you sunlight, but did look okay and I love the purples on the cloak. The armour isn't quite how I would have liked but tried drybrushing the whole thing rather than relying on a deep wash. Fun figure though 🙂 Also followed the advice of Rhonda and made colour charts. Really useful as I switch to Reaper paints from others.
