  1. So there hasn't been a lot of mojo around S.N.O.R.K.L.E. HQ recently, but I have been painting a little bit every night.... Scale 75 Field Grey and SS Camo Shadow 50% Field grey, Field Grey and Camo Highlight 50% on the skin GW Scorched Brown, WC Ochre 5, and some red or other for the eyes... GW Bestial Brown then VMC Bronze on the armor.... Thanks for lookin!
  2. So, It's May the First, Time for a new Hangout Mini! Continuing in our theme of Building a Frostgrave Warband, This Month, our mini is Blacktongue, Gnoll Ranger, 03190 in metal, 77104 in bones. Now I have 20+ of the Old Ral Partha Gnolls in 25mm, so this guy, being much bigger than them, will be a Flind from Fiend Folio... On the other hand, I painted the first of my Partha Gnolls using Ral Partha Mane Yellow, so this guy needs to be different.... Going back to MMI, Gnolls have a Green Grey Fur, so I decided that I would use SC75 Field Grey 38 50% with SC75 SS Camo Shade, mixed with some Nacre mixed 50% with the aforementioned mix as my base coat, as I now tend to paint 'Dark to Light'.... So here he is with the first basecoat... Even though I am doing the metal version, the way his left arm fit into the ball and socket at the elbow, looked best in more the bones pose than the metal..... So Thanks for looking!
  3. So I finished him up last night at around 2230hrs, and took pics, but by then it was to late to post.... So Here is My April Hangout of the Month Mini, the Xvart Commander: As a last second thing, I decided to give his sword a green wash as if it were venomous... Hope you Like Him! George WiP here
  4. So even though I can't (wont) start painting on this guy til 1 April, I finished cutting off the broccoli, and primed him in the eternal hunt for Mold lines... (I think if I was going to actually change my forum title, "Mold Line Hunter" would likely be it....) I did seriously consider trying to thin the cape down from the 1/8" thick that it is with my dremel tool, but decided against all that work.... So there you have him, waiting for some blue paint.....
  5. So, tonight the base got tufts and snow effect, and aside from the need to cover the specks of snow on the black rim of the base, I am calling him done! He was lots of fun, and I am finding myself eager to paint more Xvarts! Thanks for following the WiP!
  6. So here is my hangout mini of the month for March, the Reaper Goblin Shaman, 02876. I have removed his base, and managed to save the little spider sculpted there on... I have also since taking the pics, primed him... I am wondering what colors to use on him..... My dilemma is thus: I have 2 sets of the Ral Partha AD&D series Goblins painted up, (10 in all) I also have 16 Ral Partha Goblins from the Fantasy Collector series, Fantasy Armies... I also have some old Citadel Goblin Chariots and wolf riders... Now all the 'Parthas are painted up with Polly S Goblin Flesh paint, which is Tangerine... The Citadels are 'Green-skins'... These guys don't match the sculpts in either of those 2 lines, so would look kind of odd mixed in with them.... Sooooo..... I think that these guys are going to be painted BLUE, as the 1st ed AD&D Xvarts from Fiend Folio..... (and because it will drive Buglips up the wall....)
  7. So, For those of you not in the Know, some of the Google Hangout regulars decided that it would be a fun thing to pic the same mini, and all paint it over the course of the month... The idea was that we could bounce ideas off each other, as opinions, and discuss things about the mini, all in real time... We all thought that this guy, that Pezler mentioned, and that Dilvish, Chaoswolf and I knew we could get at a store on paint day, would be a fun simple, easy thing to do in between other serious projects.... He certainly ended up proving us wrong about that! But, he also showed us 'proof of concept' in that doing this kind of thing is very helpful, as we found so many things that made him a more complex sculpt than first appears... So here is mine, Finished last night.... WiP Here I noticed whilst taking the pics that I didn't re-trim the black edge of the base after adding in the Secret Weapon snow.... That will be fixed after posting this.... Thanks for looking! Next months Hangout mini of the month is Reaper's Goblin Shaman, Metal 02876, Bones 77349
  8. So considering the fact that I am the Instigator of this, it is only fitting that I post my work tonight.... (I almost forgot! Good thing the guys on the hangouts reminded me!) So he had the the mold line removed that runs up from his left foot, up his body and arm, across the wolf pelt's nosw, and the staff's skull, down the staff and his right hand fingers, and down the staff and it's accoutrements... Also on the inside of the wolf skin between his legs... The tab was cut off, and after drilling holes, pins were inserted in his legs. He was then primed with P3 White Primer from a rattle can with 3 light coats... and this is where he stands.... Not quite sure what I am going to do with him yet, I thought about doing the wolf skin in Technicolor, but I have already done that twice... I think that I am going to use the old Polly S Armor Dark Green for the mid tone on his skin though.... Maybe a Winter Wolf for the fur????? Hair will likely be the MSP Red Hair Triad.... And the item strapped to his back looks like a long twisted horn with feathers on it, Maybe a Rod / Staff / Wand / Fetish???? Thanks for looking! George Darn it! The mold line is still there on the skull on top of the staff!!!!!
