I only saw one thread about crackle paste when I searched these forums. So, I’m going to share how it’s going for me. I started with washed and dried 1” and 2” Reaper Bases. I put this garbage on a 2 inch base first. Don’t buy it. I got it at Hobby Lobby at the time because they were out of Folk Art. To be clear, this is Crackle Medium. It is meant to be painted on a primed or rough surface I guess, and painted thin. I put it on kind of thick. It didn’t crackle at all! So, I got a tub of this stuff on Amazon. The directions state “put over a thin layer of PVA glue.” Pfft, who has time for that extra step? Here is the result on a washed but otherwise un prepped set of bases. 1 inch 2 inch. Lousy! So, the surface needs something for crackle paste to work right. This is a 1” base with a thin layer of PVA glue. This is a 1” base with just hitting it with 220 grit sandpaper and washing it again. I also used the 2” base with dried crackle medium on it. Not pictured. This is a 2” base covered in black brush on primer. Here is the result on the 2” base over dried crackle medium. It was hard to get the stuff into a uniform layer, as the medium created a very hydrophobic surface, so the paste slides around too easy.

So my hobby space was getting cluttered; I had multiple sizes of paint/hobby bottles. Now, I could buy a pre-made organizer, but what would be the fun in that! Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls - lets step into the workshop and remedy this issue... Step One: Come up with the battle plan. This space here needs to be hold an organizer. As you can see, I have larger bottles (Vallejo specials/Daler Rowney Inks), Tamiya Clears, GW pots, and the standard dropper bottle fair. Step Two: Find some scrap material to work with. I grabbed a piece of 3/4" Oak plywood I had lying around and took some measurements to see if it was a good candidate. Step Three: Get to work! I tossed in on my cross-cut sled on the tablesaw, marked the line (and always mark your waste/outside cut line to prevent confusion) and cut it down to size. This humble 2x4 will serve as the sides and shelf frames for the storage unit... I take it to the jointer to get a flat face and edge and we clean up the other side on the planer and the tablesaw. Then to the bandsaw to resaw the board. Resawing is cutting a board's thickness in half. Ta-da! Two halves ready to be used! Here are a few bottles to take as a means of reference to measure the shelf sizes needed. Getting a general idea of the shelf layout. Gluing up and tacking the shelves in place, adding in the trim to the front of the shelves to match the sides... All glued up and ready for sanding and a final seal coat! Sanded and a couple coats of Danish Oil later we have our hobby organizer! Have you constructed something for your hobby battlestations or otherwise? Foam? 3D printed? Welded? Any other DIY'er that have taken the plunge into focusing that into their painting hobby? Super-sized something from IKEA? Let me know!

I've got tons of goals for this month. What do you have planned? For me I have to finish these by the 23rd: Amiri, Iconic Barbarian Tiik Champion Battleguard Golem Nolzur's Griffon This shouldn't be a big issue as I've already started on the griffon and the other ones are prepped and ready to go. On top of these I /still/ want to pick up the fire giants and then I'm going to start Cthulhu.

So, Goals for the new year, or at least the first month of it. --Finish Mini #2 for Secret Sophie. --Make Progress on new mini for Vorgh, Ice Elementalist Sorcerer in my F2F Game. --Finish Painting Triceratops Mini for Twitter Exchange Organizer. --Pry myself away from my Nintendo Switch long enough to do these things. So definitely a work-in-progress, but getting very near the point of "I cannot look at this anymore without screaming," I present: CAV CITY! Details follow the pictures for any interested parties. DETAILS: This is a 4x2 section of game board. Full-size, my board is 6x4. I have enough road and buildings to cover the whole thing in a decently dense city section, especially if I throw in a tree-filled park, hill, or river. Buildings are blue electrical boxes spraypainted with "windows' painted on. Road is Styrene sheet painted with stone textured spray paint. Cars and buses: Ordered off Amazon - basically off-brand micro machines. Fun detail: only the buses are articulated enough to notice this, but these are UK-style "Drive on the left" vehicles! No idea how long this actually took to build as I work on it in my spare time, but I'll say that I started buying blue boxes in, I think, January. STILL TO DO: Road lines, a few more building details, and tidy up the edgework on the game board (you can still see wood in a few pics). STILL WANT: A bridge or two...that's about it. Otherwise, IMHO, it fits the bill for a futuristic / alien pre-fab city. An FTL ship jumps into system, dispatches a handful of dropships loaded up with snap-together plasteel and ferrocrete shelters, industrial rollers lay down pavement, and eager colonists are ready to begin their exciting new lives right up until they're declared collateral damage as a bunch of big, stompy robots smash them to pieces!
