Cookie recipes for holidays and other pleasantries
Pingo posted a topic in Off-Topic RampancyBecause cookie season. This ain't no Pingo's Shambolic Kitchen, though. My cookie recipes are time-tested and approved. These are cookies I invented for a friend who developed diabetes, and who for some reason is less affected by potato starch than grains. They are light, crisp, nutty, and not too sweet, a little like tender biscotti, excellent for dipping into tea or coffee. They are also, as a side effect, gluten-free. My husband, not normally a fan of nuts, considers these the best almond cookies he has ever had. Gluten-free Almond Cookies 4 ounces butter 3/8 cup sugar 1 large egg 1/4 teaspoon almond extract 1 cup dried powdered potato starch 1 cup ground blanched almonds pinch salt Preheat oven to 300 degrees fahrenheit (150 degrees Celsius, if I got that right). Sift together the potato starch, the almond meal, and the salt. In a medium bowl, cream the butter and sugar until well blended. Add the egg and almond extract to the butter mixture and beat until pale and fluffy. Stir the dry ingredients into the rest until blended. Roll the dough into balls between one inch and three centimeters in diameter and place well spaced onto prepared cookie sheets. Bake for 25 minutes or until the edges just turn golden brown. Cool on wire racks and store tightly covered.
July 4th WIP
Auberon posted a topic in Works in Progress: PaintingI painted a mini today. Due to her unfortunate Bonesium nature she became a test piece for the new inks that I picked up, as well as an experiment in painting a mini entirely in washes. There is matte medium mixed in with the inks, but their gloss power is too high. Hence, she will be shiny until sealed. The afternoon pics; she's not quite looking where I want her to: And this evenings pics. She is looking more or less in the proper direction now. She also has some 80s fantasy armor so I could try out my blue ink. The stupid spear did get in the way though. If you haven't painted her yet consider ripping her right arm out of its socket. Her base won't remain a pile of mud. Once it is all sealed I'll put down some grass over most of it. Now, so this thread won't have only one post, what did you paint today? Feel free to share.
Where to go on holiday in America?
Speak_Centurion posted a topic in Off-Topic RampancyBelieve me, I really did Google search this question to death before posting it here, but the internet is useless because all the top-rated results are commercial links, forcing me instead to use search terms like "best place to go on holiday in America FxxK" or "nice place to visit in Florida/Texas/California SxxT" - The addition of a four letter word being the only way to create an anti-commercial filter. Almost all the results I've had so far direct me to Trip Advisor, but Trip Advisor is notoriously unreliable, and to complicate matters further, I am going alone, so I also need to find accomodation that won't overcharge me on a single-room supplement. And no, I don't want to go hiking in the mountains or white-water canoeing. Why do people on Trip Advisor think everyone taking a vacation in the USA wants to go hiking or white-water canoeing? Okay, maybe it's not that I don't want to, but what would actually happen is that I'd be dehyrated, tired, suffer from a bout of cardiac arythmia and get a broken leg. I think I'll pass. Preferably I'd like to go someplace where there's not too much shooting or stabbings either.
Snowman Slayer - Scibor Miniatures 28FM0055
jcg posted a topic in Works in Progress: PaintingThis resin beauty was on sale for only three bucks during CMON's BF sale. As I paint slowly (<1hr day) and Reaper's holiday minis didn't go on sale till the 7th, I figured this would be my Santa dwarf I paint up this year as the Reaper ones won't get here in time. Day One... Partially assembled (axe head isn't glued on yet), and partially basecoated. Nothing fancy...
2002 Christmas Sophie
ShadowRaven posted a topic in Works in Progress: PaintingWell, I wasn't going to do a WIP. Wasn't even going to start this until Monday, but like in a lot of things, I blame Buglips. More than that, I blame how his was coming which is why I went ahead and after primer slobbered on brown liner in a very Goblin-like fashion. As I said, I wasn't going to do a WIP, but the sun was getting in my eyes at my work table so I had to take a break anyway, and decided to snap a few pictures
Hello, everybody, and welcome to the Secret Sophie (thanks dispatchdave for the name!) gift exchange thread! I opted for the non-denominational version because I find the name funny. Alright, down to brass tacks. If you want to participate DO NOT post here saying you're in. You can post here with questions, with comments, or suggestions, but I think it will make it even more secret and fun if no one knows who else is in on this. Rules! 1. PM me with the answer to my short list of questions (See Below) and you're in! 2. This is an exchange of Reaper products only. Feel free to add other things to the box if you want, but the main focus is on Reaper's miniatures. 3. Nobody is required to paint anything! Part of the fun is that this will be quite simple to be apart of, otherwise I wouldn't have run this concurrently with the Autumn Exchange 4. If you want to reveal your identity, wait until they've already received their gift, please. I'll be with-holding the identity of your recipient on purpose, but if you figure it out, or know it from previous exchanges, please don't let the cat out of the bag And that's it! The deadline for this will be shortly after New Year's day to get it in the mail. The actual holidays are way too busy to count on shippers getting the package there reliably, plus everyone is just plain busy. This should give people who want to paint some time to paint, as well Deadline: 15th of January, 2013. PM me with this info. 1. Name and Address (Of course) 2. If you would like to paint for your recipient - But keep in mind, painting takes time, so if you don't think you can make the deadline, just send a naked mini. They'll still love it! 3. If you can ship internationally And there you have it. Questions, comment, suggestions all welcome, but remember, keep your participation a seeeecret . Oh, and the people who've already sent their PMs from seeing my post in the Autumn Exchange thread, no need for another. I've got you folks jotted down on my master list.
