  1. Howdy, For my twenty-seventh day of International Mini Painting Month I present a Hyena from the Frostgrave, enter the Breeding Pits Expansion... Kev!
  2. These are the two hyenas from Jason Wiebe's 03277: Hyena Pack (2). I painted them up as spotted hyenas, as that is what they most look like. I find I am enjoying painting realistic mammals because it gives a lot of opportunity for play with a fairly limited palette. (See, for example, how I recently painted wolves and wolves and wolves, and what I learned from doing it.) There is no WIP thread. I have a photo book of Zimbabwe, so I played a little bit with backgrounds.
  3. This is a heavy detailed bust from Legendarion. Meet Gebhuza the Hyena Warrior. In my mind he's an assassin / Bodyguard type, look at all those knives he's carrying besides his sword, I tried to make him into a Spotted Hyena. Hope you guys enjoy him. For those interested the WIP: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62312-gebhuza-hyena-warrior-bust-by-xherman1964/
  4. Another demon lord for the index: I'd like to give special thanks to @Gadgetman! for his advice on my Gnoll Warrior post. I used a lot of his suggestions to improve this mini, especially highlighting the jaws and matted fur. Uploaded via mobile phone, so hopefully the pictures aren't too big. Enjoy! -E.E.
  5. Here are some gnasty gnolls for your enjoyment! Tried to do some work on groups with an army/matching uniform look... ... And some highlighting on raised areas (the gnoll's left knee). The lighting isn't super great in these pictures (sorry!) but I promise you all they DO have spooky red eyes, as per the usual evil hunters. Next post will likely be a return some bigger minis (I just can't quit my demon lords!). Until then, take care of yourselves! -E.E.
  6. Since I've been working on gathering the forces for Frostgrave, with "Into the Breeding Pits" being out, I had to work on a ton of Gnolls! All of these are from the official Frostgrave line by North Star Miniatures. The groups, both in plastic and metal: Gnoll Templar: Gnoll Apothecary: Gnoll Thief: Gnoll Marksman: Gnoll Barbarian: Hyenas: Treasure Hunters/Trap Experts/Tunnel Fighters: Gnoll Crossbowmen: Gnoll Archers: Thugs: Templars and Infantrymen:
  7. One of my current projects is a band of anthropomorphic characters, or animal men. From the first batch, a hyena man or gnoll:
  8. As another part of the 54mm challenge Ub3r N3rd and Dontfear started I have chosen this one from Legendarion. Gebhuza Hyena Warrior Bust, Awesome sculpt, no flash at all... Only the sword is separate so no filling gaps with greenstuff, just clean it, paint it.. The "paint it" part is easier said then done, sooo much detail.. all those knives... He's amazing. So first Pic, right out of the box. Pleas be patient with me, I've got three busts a 54mm and a 28mm on my workbench now.
  9. Lets play a game! I will post a picture of an animal miniature I have painted. Then, someone posts a pic of an animal mini they have painted. I will then follow with an animal mini, and so on. Real animals only, extant or extinct. Most of mine are speedpaints, so grab a mini and join in! At the edge of the woods your party sees.....a red fox! Reaper Miniatures fox familiar on 25mm base.
  10. Hello again friends! Painted using a Reaper round #1 and the following Reaper Master Series paints: Red Shadow, Redstone, Gory Red, Auburn Shadow, Black Green, Dark Elf Shadow, Midnight Blue, Faded Khaki, Splintered Bone. Per Proctor's request, I tried doing bigger photos this time and I even blew one photo way up so that you could get in close. I decided to do a scar through his right eye; first time attempting to paint that feature. I also added a line of battle damage along the top right edge of his armor to add some details/interest and show that this is one battle-hardened gnoll savage. My goal was for armored/metallic parts to be relatively dull in appearance because I just wouldn't expect this fella to take good care of his equipment. C&C always welcome from ANY level of painter.
