Hi guys, So I just finished this figure this weekend. This is a Hackmaster Female Gnome Illusionist from a line that was created for the Hackmaster Role Playing Game, but was recently acquired by Iron Wind Metals/Ral Partha. It's a pretty nice little series of figures with an old school vibe and some interesting creatures. This is the only one I really have at the moment and decided to paint her up. I painted a version of this figure a long time ago, but not too too long ago got a hold of another copy. So here's the most recent version: and here is my original version, which I painted probably almost ten years ago I'm guessing: I'm kind of torn between the two. I think I like the color patterns all bright and such with the freehand ghosts, but at least from a painting aspect, even though not as colorful, the newer one I like probably a bit better. Way back when I had the conception from the Monster Manual that gnomes were grey with white hair and while I have overcome that conception, I was still living in that state of mind when I painted her the first time. Anyhow, there they are, enjoy!

Last week, I posted photos to "Show Off" of the Anhurian Spearman that I had recently completed painting for use with the game Frostgrave (http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/67363-yet-another-anhurian-spearman-77359-bones/ ); and forumite Pippin put in a request for me to please post photos of one of my completed Warbands for Frostgrave. I had been playing the game so far with a mix of figures specifically painted up for Frostgrave with snow bases, and existing figures in my collection that were on regular grassed bases. I had been busily painting figures for Frostgrave, but had been working on several warbands in parallel, and hadn't actually completed a full one. Since our group had started its Frostgrave campaign last month, I had been making a concentrated effort to finish my main Illusionist warband that I am using for the campaign, and completed the final figure this past weekend. I sat down today and took some shots of the complete group. (Note: Before the sharp-eyed Forstgrave players on the forum cry foul at there being 11 figures, after the first campaign game my group settled in an old inn, allowing them to add an extra figure to the warband) "What strange magic is this?", said the wizard Kodak, as the man set up the odd optical device before the group. "It is a machine for the making of a permanent image," said the man. "Like a painting, but with more realism and much quicker." "I'd like to see such magic!" said the curious Illusionist. Left to right: My Illusionist, Kodak (Reaper); his apprentice, Cherowyn (Reaper); the templar, Sister Elessa (Reaper); The treasure hunter, Jack (Reaper); archer, Edel (Reaper); and archer, Weiss (Reaper) Left to Right: The thief, Cadwalleter (Games Workshop); the thief, Agamemnon, (Games Workshop &; Wargames Factory); the thief, Linnese (Games Workshop); the thug, Bash (Games Workshop &; Wargames Factory) and the thug, Doc. (Games Workshop &; Wargames Factory)

I recently started playing a game of 2nd Edition D&D with some friends (not my normal gaming group). As it's my first time playing 2nd Ed. in 15 years, I thought I'd go with something easy. Then I realized no one else wanted to play a mage. So instead I'm playing a Gnome Illusionist. What a great excuse to paint another Gnome!! (and quickly, with his AC of 8 and 5 HP he may not last long). So I present Flizbit von Klaus, Illusionist Extrordinaire! I'd planned to grab a background and take some nicer shots, but forgot and now he's quite shiny with wet sealer (we play tomorrow) so these will have to do. He was a blast to paint (I loves me some Stonehaven Gnomes!) and quick. I did him in 3 sessions, maybe 5-6 hours total, while giving my wife lots of guidance on painting her paladin (77063: Duke Gerard)). I don't usually use a lot of bright colours either, but he really wanted them.

I’m working on finishing the rest of my Otherworld dungeon adventurers before the last part of the Indiegogo campaign and next in line was the Male Human Illusionist. There’s parts of him I’m pleased with and some I’m not. I could have worked more on the “skirt†and the face didn’t come together. On the other hand the figure has lots of small nicknacks that came out quite nicely.

Yes, another Gnome. Who doesn't need more Gnomes?? This guy I'm using for my character in 2nd Ed. campaign I'll be playing with some friends. Should be an interesting contrast with the 5th Ed. campaign I'm running with a different group of friends. It will also be my wife's first time playing D&D at all (she's playing a paladin, and will be painting up 77063: Duke Gerard btw). Here's a quick pic of him straight out of the packaging. I've since cleaned him up and given him a good scrub.

This little guy have been sitting on my shelf basecoated and begging to be finished for about a year now. Since I’m focusing more on my metal miniatures this year, and focusing on getting them done, I picked this up and applied the finishing touches. At first I wasn’t happy at all. The whole paintjob just looked dirty. And not the good kind of “in a dungeon for a while†dirty, but just plain “sloppy paintjob†dirty. I didn’t manage to take it all the way but at the end I’m pretty satisfied with the result.

I finally finished up my second Stonehaven gnome wizard. A fellow gamer had seen photos of mine and asked me to paint one up for his Forest Gnome Illusionist. I had alot of fun with this project and I quite like how he turned out. I really enjoyed bringing someone else's character to life and this little guy is such fun to paint. Thank you to all my forum members who helped me along the way in my WIP I appreciate all the suggestions and comments, they really help. Here is Dixie complete with a squirrel companion. I used Reaper's squirrel from Familiar Pack IV. Oh and I tried both a black and blue background so bear with me on the photos. Before I send him off I will take a few more photos with a tripod as even though I can steady my hand to paint I can't while taking pictures. Edit** My husband took a few closeups for me so I wanted to share it here as well.

I just started my Stonehaven Gnome Wizard and was hoping for color advice. I didn't plan out my colors in advance for this one as he was intended to be a quick paint up for an upcoming character for D&D. And now I am a bit stuck for the colors of his shoes, and they are quite the shoes for this little guy. I sat and stared at his shoes for about 30 mins mind you while I should've been actually putting paint on him. I was thinking a dark brown, but I am not sure. What do you guys think? Oh and since we are on color advice what opinions does everyone have on his flame and crystals? Without further ado here is the state I left him in for now He is going to be a forest gnome illusionist hence the green and I plan on making a forest base with tiny mushrooms. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

The adventure continues. First up, the only Reaper mini I've stumbled across in the several lots I've bought on Ebay, a Guardian Wraith by Bob Ridolfi: I recently saw dispensed some advice about highlighting black with turquoise. So I tried that, here--a very light turquoise. I liked the looks of it, so I also used that for the detailing on the shield, hoping to get a glowing look. And then there's Lanah the Lost, Barbarian Princess, from Ral Partha's Fantasy Adventurers line: My first bikini-babe warrior-chick. Love love love this sculpt, even if it is a little ridiculous. I really made an effort not to holdback with the highlights on her. I double washed with Reaper's flesh wash and then dry-brushed with what I felt was a super-light tone to try and make her pop. Also, the first butt cheeks I've painted. And finally Grenadier's Necromancer (or Illusionist (Evil): Another sculpt I love (though it's a wee wonky in a couple spots). I really wanted to embrace the Necromancer sort of feel to this piece that was at least sometimes billed as a necromancer, so I thought blue was the way to go. Hoping it's popping. I also assumed it to be glowing, and I tried to limit my highlighting to areas affected by that glow--not OSL or whatnot, obviously, but I'm kind of feeling that general territory out. Don't know if it even remotely makes sense as-is or not. But. Yeah. Also tried making a little wood grain on the staff. As always, I'm totally open to feedback, especially if it'll help me improve. Thanks for looking.

Rounding up the recent work. More old Grenadier minis (I super-promise I will work on something Reaper soon, very soon). First, a wraith: I was really trying to up the ante with this guy. I base-coated in black and tried highlighting up with three different shades of blue. Really wanted to capture the floating-along movement of the pose. Next an illusionist: I really liked how she turned out. The dress reads bluer than it is in the pictures, but I was very happy with the highlights all around. And two skeletons: I got all stupid-excited about these guys right off the bat. I just washed them (the guy with battleaxe with a green, the other with a brown) and dry-brushed with a slightly-browned white. Easy and pretty effective, I thought. Though I'm sure there's room for improvement. Please feel free to head me the right direction. Thanks for looking.
