  1. After painting the Craven from Red Box Games I thought I would have had my fill of them. I saw Svartulf (Black Wolf) and went nuts. Yeap, I decided I had to have another Trebeard fix. You called that one correctly ub3r_n3rd (oh great enabler)...LOL. I also discovered that my camera can take a photo under nine (9) inches from the mini. I should have been using it all along. I will be posting few photos on this WIP, photography has been cutting into my paint time. Here is the primed Svartulf The Savage. (I think I saw him on a Motorcycle this morning),

Red Box Games - The Craven

If you want a Joy Ride, do this Trio of Mini's !!!!!!!! I started these with a bit of nervousness, I had never done a RBG miniature before, I wish I knew what a treat it would be. So Much Detail ! I have switched to another camera and it has improved the quality of my photos. They are small in size, so I will post several photos of each miniature. I am using static grass, and material from a water filter in my basing. Comments and Critique's are always welcome, and desired. Here is my take on The Craven:

The Craven - Red Box Games

After all the events of last week I decided that I needed a real challenge. I have had the RBG Kickstarter pieces sitting in my "To Be Painted" box for some time, and I said I have never painted one of Tre Manor's pieces before. I went for The Craven since they look like quite the challenge, and fun. So.. Cleaned up, washed, mounted on bases, and Primed...(I really needed to feel primer under my brush again after the crusader Knight !!! So here is The Craven awaiting the first touch of color...(Think Pinks are out) !!! (ROFL).

    Sir Conlan, Crusader Sergeant 14037

This is the FIRST of my Reaper Bones II miniatures that I have painted. Its been a LONG time since I haven't primed. Took a bit to get back into the smoothing out paint mode. I really like my primer, and I'm a bit spoiled with being able to dilute my paints to the maximum with base coats and layering. There are a couple of extreme challenges in this mini. One is in the area between the blade, the cloak, and the leg. The way the cloak wraps creates a visual void that must be addressed. The second is that left foot that on the plastic version is Way Too Big, and needs to be clipped back. The fact that you can do some clipping easily is an asset also in this miniature. All in all a nice challenge, and a lot of fun to do. C&C greatly solicited and appreciated. Here is Sir Conlan: .
  5. I suspect that some may be amazed to realize that I really DO paint Reaper Miniatures. I'm very fond of Bobby Jackson's work and have chosen this one to be my first of the Bones II to paint. I did enjoy how easy it was to remove some of the base with a pair of nippers. Here are three photos of the Miniature.

    Jays Last Frog (DSM-7904)

I was given the Frog Bishop as a Christmas Present; and promised I would paint it up. This is the last of the series I have, and then I have a box of BONES II to play with. I am looking forward to biting into the myriad of Bones that are lined up on my desk. I did Bishop Ribbit a while back in Green Flesh, and Purples. This one is going to be in Yellow Flesh and in Greens (I'm still fighting with the yellows), so lets see what I can do with this. Here are three photos.

    DSM-7012 Frog Wizard

Before I say anything about the Miniature; I wanted to say thank you to Ub3r_N3rd, robinh, and Dontfear for their suggestions, help, advice, and that they always push me to expand, and try new things. This Miniature is incredible for its detail, and the myriad of ways you can go about painting it. I have had an absolute blast doing it, and I am sure I could have added a few more touches to it, to enhance it further. Blending all those colors, and making the color choices was a hoot. The leaves on the bottom are Birch tree seeds. Go for this one, and try not to giggle as much as I did as I painted it. Here is the Frog Wizard: ETA: Comments and Suggestions are solicited and greatly appreciated !

    DSM Frog Wizard

I was given the Dark Sword Frog Wizard as a Christmas Gift. I don't want the giver of the gift to think I was unhappy with their choice; (must always leave open channels for future Mini's) !!! I really like the challenge of this one, and the familiars around his feet, and the bat are hysterical ! So I am doing another one of those froggies that I dearly love. I wonder if he is holding the "Holy Hand Grenade Of Antioch" ??? I have him primed now.

Tin Man Min - Jungle Lord

I saw this miniature a while back and asked for it as a birthday present. It is small, and detailed, and an amazing amount of muscle and skin to do. The Sculpt is also really "tight". So I may have taken on a headache, but its been primed, so I am off to the races. Here are a couple photos. The inked one is off their webpage.

    DSM-7425 Male High Elf Warrior

I completed this Mini Yesterday. If you want a fantastic challenge go for this one. The pose is so dynamic, and the possibilities are myriad. I added a new set of brushes to this mix; and was shocked by the difference in upgrading to a higher quality brush changed my painting. I know that many folks feel that an excellent base should be designed for each mini. Since it is winter; and most DSM mini's come with a base sculpt, I am just going to go with what they have done for right now. Once I can use my new jewelers saw outside, I'll learn how to removed that stuff, and peg them I have added some flocking to the base.. This has been a hoot to paint. As Always C/C accepted and appreciated. Here are some photos:

    Male High Elf Warrior

I've been seeing this in my box of goodies for a very long time. I avoided painting it after several other members did theirs. My turn ! I'm heading towards the greens for the cloak, and will wing it for the other components. Love the dynamics of this Sculpt. Was a BEAR to glue together though! He has been washed, and primed.

    Princely Frog -DSM-7906

Prince Amphibias had little to recommend him as heir to the throne. He was selected because he was the first tadpole from the Royal Spawn that lost his tadpole tail, and leaped from the pond. The remaining tadpoles were released into the stream; where they were promptly consumed by a waiting large mouth Bass. There is NO competition for the Royal Titles in Froggy-Dom. Needless to say, His Royal Highness promptly adapted himself to his Father's Sartorial Style. Yes, I have laughed myself silly while doing this Frog Prince. I can't tell if it is a "groaner" or a "Macabre exercise" in painting ! Here is the Prince: As Always C & C are solicited and appreciated ! I kept his base so it would match the earlier frogs that I have painted.

    Galahad TBM-3009

This Miniature has been a "learner"..since it has been two weeks of an uphill slog with it. If you want to read of my thoughts, its on the WIP page. This is the last of the Thunderbolt Series that my son gave me. I have enjoyed the challenge of these, and there has been plenty on this miniature. As always, Comments and criticism is welcomed and greatly appreciated.

    Jasonator's 2014 personal likes

I wasn't too sure where to put these, so I'll put them here. These two aren't the best photographs, just the best I can do now. There are 35 Miniatures in the case. I have painted over 100 mini's this year, so I am happy with about 25 percent of my output now, I am sure that I will not be happy with some of these by next year. So here are two photos of my wall display case. Lets make 2015 our best year of painting !

    Frog Prince DSM-7906

Alice; he's going to paint another Frog ! Yep, I was given the Frog Prince as a Christmas Present, and was reminded that I haven't painted it yet. I am working on removing mold lines on several other miniatures (wait till the full moon; and we all can howl together about "moooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuulllllllllllldddddddddddddddddd Liiiiinnnnnneesssss"). So here is the Dark Sword Frog Prince, de-mold-lined and washed. Needs to be primed at this stage.

    Horde Warrior -Tin Man Miniatures

I got the Horde Warrior Finished ! I really wish I had discovered this mini a while ago. What a treat it has been to do. No constraints, just have fun, wing it, mix colors, and see what you can do! This has been very liberating, and a teaching mini as well. I used Liquid water to make him look like he is standing in a huge mud puddle . So here are a pile of photos: As Always, your comment and criticism are appreciated and solicited. (Edited to correct terrible English).

    Horde Warrior - TMM

Now for Something Totally Different: I may need to order some smelling salts by the end of this post..ROFL. I know that most everyone expects to see another Tom Meirer Mini after Galahad that I just completed in Show Offs I adore Thunderbolt Mtn Mini's, and Tom Meirer is a great way to learn how to paint, however, its time to switch-up, and learn something new, and get different mini's going. I'll still come back to paint another 25mm when I need to. Lets just have fun, and expand my painting kingdom. So here I am in Outer Space (or is it in somewhere closer bye). This is the Horde Warrior from Tin Man Miniatures, and that Ain't No Knight ! He is primed, and waiting for some lining.

    Galahad on Horse TBM-3009

I am a bit shocked, but this is actually the last Thunderbolt Mountain, 25 mm miniature I have. Glad to see that it is one without a helm (so I have the pleasure of doing a face on this scale again). Galahad has all the looks of simplicity, which means it is more treacherous than otherwise..LOL. I already have spent hours filing off mold marks, and getting it onto a base. There is one mold line on left leg that has been scraped and filed down, I don't want to do anymore to it, since it risks damaging the sculpt at this point. I'll let the primer and paint do its magic on that. So..I'm off on another gallop, though in keeping with my new habit of taking my time, this WON'T be done in a week, by a long shot. Looks like I have ample opportunity to have fun.
  19. After all the fun I had with The Elf Ranger; I now go back to the Tom Meirer 25mm miniatures. I prefer to alternate between styles and sculptors; since it keeps me growing, and on my toes. With the coming Christmas Holiday and the craziness associated with that I want to hold off on an especially challenging DSW miniature I want to paint. Sir Gawayne will be a nice segue into the next one I take on. So, I just glued him together, and attached him to his base. He has yet to be primed; as I am STILL removing the (Expletive Deleted) Mold Lines. Just saw another one when I took the photos. Here is Sir Gawayne on Horse:

    DSM-7105 Elf Ranger W/Bow

Needless to say; if you followed this in the WIP forum. I have had an incredible blast at doing this. The Sculpt is extremely well carved, details are very fine, and the miniature is challenging, and very enjoyable to paint. You can go color crazy painting this one if you wish. The challenge at the end was to create a base for him. I decided to go with what the sculptor had provided me, and mod it. I didn't realize I would be spending hours picking up each Birch seed "leaf" and attaching it to the base.. Brown, oh that has a touch of yellow, Green, burnt brown... Yes it was fun ! Here is the Finished Miniature. As Always,C&C is greatly appreciated, and sought after. ETA: LowlyLowlyCook ask that I add a close up of the face.. I am complying with his request.
  21. I know it is hard to imagine that I am NOT doing another Meier 25mm Sculpt ! Thought I would switch out and doing something different since Sir Kay and Galahad, They were fun, but this time, I'm going for added enjoyment, and color. He's been primed, and coated with liner, and I have started on his skin tones, I am digging the face, I really enjoy when a miniature starts "Right".. I'm happy with it already. Always a good sign. So, here is the Male Elf Ranger W/Bow. oh..Robinh, No Orange on this one ! ROFL.

Sir Kay and Sir Galahad (TBM)

I started this project to use colors I really didn't like, and rarely touched. Yellow, browns and Gray are my least favorite colors. They cover poorly, and you have to struggle (at least I do) to get them to look halfway decent, and not turn into mud. So here are the finished Sir Galahad and Sir Kay. There is a mod on Sir Kay, I gave him a Battle Banner (thanks Ub3r for that recommendation). The object was to learn something new, and have fun. I had heaps of both. oh, these are 25mm so I posted a pic with a regular mini. Here are the Knights. C/C are always appreciated and welcomed.
  23. Since I tend to paint these quickly I decided that I would paint two Miniatures in the same WIP. This way it will take longer on my part, and anyone wishing to follow along won't be hanging onto the horse tail to stay caught up. Lots of things to keep my busy on these two. Sir Galahad has an outrageous designed surcoat with those jagged sleeves, and his armor is so spiked it is mind bending. Lot of opportunity to do something different on these. I also have one face, and one helm to deal with. These should be fun. So two knights and a horse..hmmmm.. Will have to see where this takes off to. Here are some photos.

    Queen Guenevere -TBM

Guenevere stood Pensive, waiting for the trumpet fanfare to begin. In just a moment she would descend the stairs as a new Queen. As always C&C are welcome and sought after.

    TBM Guenevere Standing

This is a whole new ballgame for me. I switched over to brush on primer, and had my socks blown off. I didn't realize how much of a difference that primer would make in the crispness of the Mini's edges. Its shocking how much detail is NOT covered over. Makes me look at my former stuff and get a bit upset. I'll just move forward on these. I'm looking forward to painting this one, and see if I can capitalize on the crispness of the sculpt. Going out on the edge :) Here is the Queen Guenevere (Standing).
