I finished the Barbarian today (almost sad to see him mounted on his plinth). This is a magnificent sculpt! Challenging, but totally rewarding. Your color choices really provide you with an endless decision making, and challenging process. The miniature is also so dynamic that is it fun. It even convinced me to use "Green Stuff" for the first time ! As always; your comments, criticism are welcome, appreciated, and sought after. Leave me a note: Here is my concept of the Male Barbarian With Hammer:

I started prepping this piece last week. I wanted something having to deal with fur (not that comfortable with it yet). So I decided that I would work on this one. Looks simple, (it is FAR from that). The undulations and the details of this sculpt are very very complex. I am just now laying in layers of color, and I haven't even started to build up the color that I want. I already have planned out the basing on this one, so I will probably do the base while I am painting. Love the dynamics on this mini ! Here is where I am at. C/C are always welcome !

This Ogress has a motto: There is nothing wrong with being an Ogre, Just in dressing and looking Poorly ! Poor thing has broken one Mirror Already ! This was a lot of fun to do. As you can tell, I had a blast making her as outrageous as I possibly could. Its hard to paint a portrait on 1/4 by 1/4 inch oval !! Here is Venus d' Ogress and her Runt. C and C are always welcome, and solicited. Painting these mini's is a solitary endeavor, I really love hearing back from all of you. You aren't going to hurt my feelings with a negative, but you will make me jump on the chair with a Like click ! Jay

I was given this mini by a friend, and have decided it is time to get it painted. I have discovered what many of you have hinted at...PREP time takes longer the more experienced you are. I too roll my eyes at mold lines, mutter under my breath about slag, and flashings left on the mini ! She has been washed, and primed, and if I ever stop giggling, she will get painted. My thinking is "An Ogress that thinks she is Marilynn Monroe", That thought alone makes me laugh. Anywho; here is a photo of the lovely lady !

I think if you just look at this Miniature, you will know I was having a fantastic time. This provided lots of experience in cleaning (nasty mold line filing), and ran me through the gauntlet of any skills I have. I used some freehand painting on shield; and played with black and white photos working the shadows. Highlighting was a hoot ! The opportunity to take this figure in a thousand different directions is amazing. Needless to say, I have totally enjoyed this Miniature. I hope the rest that I have to do prove to be as entertaining. As always, your comments and critiques are appreciated, and requested. Here is what I have done with the Minature:

This has been a total blast to paint. Besides being very whimsical, it is a challenging piece of great sculpting. You can chase yourself around quite a bit on this one. The biggest challenge is the armor, and painting all the details of it. This will exercise your brush control ! When it came to basing him, I did all sorts of things with cork, and wood, and finally I decided that Less IS more in this case. I want to draw emphasis to the figure, not take away from it. So I have used a simple Tung Oil stained base. As always, your comments and criticism are welcomed and sought after. Please leave me a note! Jay

This is the last of the Brigand Series by Tre Manor; Long Shot Loim served under the Duke of Norfolk, He wasn't always a scoundrel, nor a brigand. Ever since that fight in the tavern, he had been on the run. He didn't relish the thought of having another personal confrontation, so he used his other skill. He was lethal with a bow, and it kept him far enough away from his target to hear nothing. He always laid a sword at his feet, you never know if an emergency were to occur. He was smart enough to always give himself a back up. Comments and Critiques are always appreciated, and desired. I really do appreciate feed back. Jay I have added two photos of the trio of Brigands to the photo set. So here is Smarty Sean, DIrk the Ne'r Do Well, and Long Shot Loim together. Should have done that in the beginning. Back into the fray again with another of Tre's miniatures. This one has some interesting texture going on in the doublet. I've primed him, did some of my standard brown liner in dark areas. I gave him a green hood for right now, it might change. Gave him a simple face for the moment. Just base coating. Beginning getting my feel of the miniature, and deciding what I want to do with him. So here is the last of the brigands, Long Shot Loim.

A wonderful friend gave me Smarty Sean; so I decided to paint him up. He's been washed and glued to his base. Next will be to prime, and brown line. Have to true up his lance before the priming though ! He is part of a threesome group of brigands, that live in the forest ! Here are a couple of photo's before we are off to the races. Oh, I attached a third photo showing the size of this mini. after I primed and washed him. Yes, that's a US Quarter.

Another of my beloved sculpts by Tre Manor. Smarty Sean is a hoot to paint. One of those one inch mini's that can drive you banana's; but a great sense of accomplishment when you get him done. As I always remark, doing high quality challenging sculpts make you grow as a painter. These are sculpts to grow by. Critiques/comments are greatly desired and solicited. So leave me a note please ! I tend to use Tom Meirer's sculpts as teaching lessons for myself. They are intricate, and sophisticated. They can be very challenging. I chose to make it more difficult with my color choices. Orange, Bronze, and a white horse. This is a learning miniature for me. At one inch tall, this will freak you out, in one way or another. Toss in white, and you have a regal battle going on. Loved the challenge, and learned a lot. Oh, I always enjoy your comments, and/or criticisms ! Leave me a note ! Jay

While I am serious about painting this miniature (and am enjoying the challenge), I am also using the WIP for a secondary purpose. I was given a gift of a cellphone that takes photos of an extremely better "pixelation" than my canon camera. So as I paint this miniature, I am learning to take photos at the same time. So that said... Here are a few photos of the Mounted Noble Oak Guard. at 25mm it can be vexing, so I decided that I would paint a white horse (of course), and then use orange (gotta keep robinh happy), and I'm doing tough color combo's. (Gotta make it fun). Here are some photos:

Dirk wasn't very good at a lot of things, Especially gambling, and wenching; though he found out early that he was very good at getting Drunk, and swilling wine. Here he is trying to find his way back from another night of loosing, but he walked away with a treasure, a half jug of wine. He even managed to hold onto it as he weaved and tripped his way back to camp ! Here is Dirk The Ne'r Do Well. Oh, comments and/or critiques are always welcomed, and greatly appreciated !

Knight of the Flowers has been quite the trip ! I don't think I have ever used a 0000 brush as much as I have on all the little bits on here. Nor has so many details been thrown at me at one time. This is my first free hand piece of work. TWO of them. Lining on cloak, and painting the flower on the shield. I'm sure I will get better at it. I chose this wonderful sculpt because of its challenge, and for its beauty. I hope I did it some justice. I tried to make it mine, hopefully I managed to impart my vision of it. I have gotten rather hooked on Tre Manor's sculpts. I was given "Dirk the Ne'r Do Well", and I have been planning on painting him. Well, He has been washed, primed, and has 16 coats of paint on him so far. The two colors are not the easy ones, but I love how they clash, I will be tossing some red in there also to make a good rumble. I wasn't planning on making a WIP, but then I thought, Jay, you're using Orange and robinh will be delighted. So...I'll do the WIP. Here are three photos of Hapless Dirk.

After thirteen (13) RBG miniatures from Tre Manor, I thought I could use a break. So I opted to start a miniature that will FORCE me to really concentrate on my brush control. Ser Loras Tyrell, Knight of the Flowers, is ONE TOUGH painting experience. Its carved by my favorite T. Meirer, and the armor, and cloak back look like a nightmare to paint. So I selected it. Nothing tempted, nothing learned ! Actually scares the heck out of me; but so did all his other sculpts I have painted ! I won't be posting as many photos as I have been prior to this. I intend to take my time, and enjoy it for all its complexity. I have just put a base coat of flesh and been experimenting with the inside of the cloak. Scheme is to paint it with Green cloak interior, Blue cloak exterior, Blue-gunmetal armor, gold decoration on Armor, and I have no idea what I will do with shield, but it will have something on it. So a new adventure ! Here is Ser Tyrell with some paint sloshed on. (Edited to correct Grammar, and spelling).

Much to my amazement, and Happiness, I discovered I had one last RGB Barbarian to paint this morning. Since I decided that this Birthday I would do only what I wanted to do; I had decided that I was going to paint all day. At the Bottom of the to do box was Bloody Garm !!!!!!!!!!!! So I have spent the day painting Bloody Garm. I took all the information that I had over the last eleven (kathud) miniatures, and applied them to Garm. I even brushed color on the static grass ! Highlighted and washed back words. Tried every trick I could remember... Has been a blast. So the LAST of my Tre Manor Barbarians is painted and based. As always, C&C are desired and respected.

Like all Sculpts by Tre Manor, Valda was a delight to paint. Very challenging vixen. I started experimenting with the gray scale photography on this last RBG Barbarian. I really learned a great deal from this one. I have based her to compliment the other barbarians that I have done from this series. C and C are always welcomed, leave me a comment as to what you think. Here's Valda The Black Hearted. I have Modified the post as I was requested to get a better look at her face. I managed to get a photo of her face with my cell phone. Like looking at my painting under a microscope !

The last of my Red Box Games from the last Kickstarter. Valda The Black Hearted. Oh.. this is a really tight sculpt ! Once I put her together I was like, "How are these brushes going to get in there". I figured while everyone scoped out Hakar the Horrible in the Show offs, I would start doing Valda. I'm playing a lot with this one. I want Noir Black on the fur, and silver highlights, and I want her attire to be crimson with blood red highlights. (so far, may change if the contrast isn't enough). Best part of these miniatures from Tre Manor is the complexity, you can do almost anything you want to do once you have the shadows in. Any Comments would be VERY welcome, sometimes painting in a vacuum is a bit boring; would be nice to know that someone had an idea about what I was doing ! Hakar The Horrible has been a hoot to paint. Since it is part of a set I have kept to a theme in painting these Barbarians. I have modified colors to just have fun painting them. I've tried to make each one an individual. Hakar I've made more Nordic, and used Green and Rocks in his basing. Your comments and Criticism are welcome and sought after as usual. I also include a group photo with the Horde so you get an idea how he fits in. This has been quite the learning experience, and these one inch mini's are quite the challenge. Yes, he has blue eyes..way in there ! Here is Hakar The Horrible. I have photographed him with Svaltulf, and the rest of the Helsvakt Horde.

This is the second to last Red Box Mini I have left. I really had no intention of going on a Barbarian Spree; but that appears to be what has happened. I have really gotten into this series, and I might as well finish, since I am enjoying them so much. So here is Hakar The Horrible with his axe. I've primed him, and given him a strong wash in brown liner to aid me in shadows, and building up flesh tones, and color. Think it is time to go for a green kilt apron! I've done blue and red already on Svartulf, The Craven, and the Barbarian Horde.

This has been a labor of love and angst. I in a moment of incredible stupidity decided to do ALL the Helsvakt Horde at one time. Not realizing how much work it was going to be, and how much I would need to learn to complete this project. They became quite the learning experience for me. Next time I jump in the pool, I will check for sharks, and how deep it is. Excellent project, fantastic sculpts, lots of surprises, and a lot of potential to learn a lot about minatures. I recommend these to anyone up for a real challenge. As always, comments, and critiques are welcome, and I would love hearing back from you as to what you think. Its been a while since I posted a new WIP. Has been a bit busy around here, and putting these miniatures together has been a bit of a challenge. Sometimes you just have to grow your skills, and that is what this required. There are six members of the horde, and I haven't decided color scheme's yet, though I am leaning towards what I did with Svartulf The Savage. Though I may make the armor black also on this. Anyway, this is going to take some time to do, so this won't be a week in turn around to completion - that is for sure ! Here is a photo of the horde after I covered them with brown liner to see what I had to play with: (I primed them already).

I hadn't planned on finishing this Miniature today. I just couldn't put it down ! That's an endorsement of a great sculpt. Svartulf came alive in my hands in a sense. Once I started I just kept on wanting to uncover what the sculpt was about, this morning I realized I was done, and started the basing. I placed him inside a circular coffee filter when I started gluing components on the base. When it came to the black filter material, I was able to pour it on, push it down, and move it as needed using the paper filter. When done I used a "Proxa brush to remove excess, and then dump the excess back into a zip lock bag for later use. This is a fun sculpt ! Thanks Tre ! Comments and Criticism is desired and welcomed.
