Hello fine fans and lovers of the Reaper Miniature World! So today I've got two figures to post. I'd do them together, but different sculptors and different genres. The first one is an old Julie Guthrie figure from the eighties, Woman Warrior With Two Swords. I think she came in a box from the range "the Adventurers", which was full of female player characters. So here she is: In one of Anne's podcasts, she was doing non-metal metal and I'd asked her about her base colors and she suggested more grey as opposed to a blue beginning, so with this figure and her metals, I started out with Rainy Grey instead of Ashen Blue which is what I normally use. I think she came out pretty decently, even though of course I'm never satisfied with my own work. Such is the curse of the painter.... Anyhoos, hope you enjoy her, a very fun and basic figure. One of the reason I like old school minis as I've mentioned before. She strapped on her armor, grabbed her blades and took off. No ladening herself with bags, sacks and knick knacks.

Hello sentient painting creatures! So here's one I just finished painting and just got his base finished this morning and some pictures taken: from an eighties Ral Partha set of Julie Guthrie figures, originally called the Berserkers, with was a group of different types of fighters/warriors. Nice set, as is all of what the Goddess Guthrie creates. With this one, I also am using as a comparison set, because I also painted this one many, many years ago. So it was in the eighties, before 1986 when I graduated high school, so this painted version is of an age between 34 and maybe 39 years old, couldn't nail down an exact date exactly: I started out with the same skin and hair more or less on my new version, but changed up his wardrobe as to note make a carbon copy. The new figure was painted with Reaper colors and the old version was Polly S. Anyhoos, always fun to do these little comparison shots!

The last few weeks have been very busy with very little time or inspiration to paint, as the general lack of posts lately will bear full witness to. As you might imagine, I was going for green magical flames. I struggled with this, and it did not turn out as I had envisioned it. This one I count as a bit of a failure, and I am not at all satisfied with how it turned out. Maybe I will repaint the whole thing at some point but for now I am rather sick of it. At leaast it does look much better IRL on the table than when magnified in photos. Somthing which is a small comfort. The white for "teeth" does not work at all in the pictures and I might just redo that part and leave the rest alone. Or not. The wierd thing is that the white "teeth" are not that bad IRL. But once seen, it cannot be unseen... What is this sorcery?! Gah! Even the captions are uninspired. So I've actually been pretty productive these last couple weeks, and here is another miniature I finished up last night, an executioner, sculpted by Julie Guthrie back in the eighties. Pretty basic figure, very few colors, didn't take too long to paint. was lucky today in that it's reasonably sunny outside so I've got some good natural lighting going on. Not sure how happy I am with his axe, turned out a little dark, and I considered putting some blood on it, but in the end thinking maybe it's his first head-whacking of the morning, and hopefully he cleans it daily. With his long weekend I was able to paint quite a lot, and this gentleman was done pretty much all this week. He'd been sitting on a base primed for years, but he seemed to be a nice straightforward figure that I could get done quickly. So hopefully you all enjoy another trip back into our miniature prehistory!

Hello all and good evening! Another figure finished last night, a Julie Guthrie figure from the early eighties, Fighter Mage with Sword, a set of three fighter mages that she sculpted in the good old days. Fun figure, pretty straightforward. His long scarf is apparently a millipede, also a nice little touch! Anyhoos, did him in kind of an oriental style, hope you all enjoy him!

44078 Giant Snake (#616) Yeah, snakes have been around since the Garden of Eden. The earliest fossils of snakes we have date from the Cretaceous period, 145-66 million years ago). Snakes seem to be a successful group of animals, still alive and slitherin'. I tried to give it a relatively realistic patterning with colouration that might work on the autumnal flock I use these days. 32mm base. Sculpted by Julie Guthrie Great Beasts indeed! Good evening gents and gentettes, So finally got another one finished this afternoon. I was working on him for a while now and got done painting him two nights ago, let him cure, got his base attached last night, and then this afternoon on my lunch break (working from home for the foreseeable future) got his grass stuck on and photos taken. So with this elf, I didn't want to just do him in either browns or greens, so went with yellows and oranges with some leathery colors instead. I also did his bow thinking of more of an ivory bow, so off white. There were a few other things I could have done with him, but calling him done. This one is a classic Ral Partha Julie Guthrie figure from her range "All Things Dark and Dangerous", from back in the eighties. Most of them you can still end up getting still from Iron Wind, so that is a plus. Anyways, here he is, hope you like him!

Hi Guys, another old classic from Julie Guthrie, part of a set she put out for Ral Partha in the eighties, Female Adventurers, which I imagine was their answer to the Grenadier boxed set that was also full of delightful adventuring ladies. This figure is a little nostalgic, because she's actually lead, back from the eighties, not version cast later in Rallidium. And as always, wasn't sure on a color for her clothing. I had the hair and skin pretty much figured out, but once I got to that point, it took a day or two to actually commit. Anyhow, hope you enjoy, a great figure from the early sculpting days of Julie Guthrie!

#157: Here I went much more heavily in with the Dungeon Slime, and further mixes with white, and pure white at the edges. The head, chest, hands and sabre was given a dark grey wash. The sabre was then given a thin coat of Scalecolor Black Metal painted on while the grey wash was still wet, which resulted in an excellent see-through metal effect. Eyes in Vallejo Magic blue and Reaper Copper Verdigris. The dead man's chest was done in different browns and black metal. My schedule is increasingly packed these days, so painting time is getting scarce. These are even more speedpainted than usual, just minutes spent on each with some drying time in between. The Ghost Pirate subset that was added to the Bones 4 core set during the last day of the kickstarter campaign. These are made in translucent green material. The key to painting translucents are first to undercoat with clear varnish. I used Vallejo matte varnish through my airbrush. The varnish lets the paint adhere to the plastic and avoids a lot of grief with paint beading or running away from where you want it to go. Then paint with predominantly translucent paint such as inks. With these I tried a few different variations on how to paint them. First I gave them all a thin wash of Citadel Hexwraith Flame (the Nighthaunt green technical paint), making sure to wick up any pooling. This wash helped create some contrast, which in turn let me actually see some of the details. When dry, I used Vallejo Dark Grey Model Wash on the heads, exposed bone bits and other details on most of them. After this was dry, I went in with Reaper Dungeon Slime, a bright and pale green, with high density pigment. (Which really is not ideal for translucents, as this is a really opaque paint.) But I wanted to try this out. The results ...varied. I decided to quickly be done with them and covered the base in my autumn flock mix as usual. A little to quickly it seems, as there still is flock and static grass in unsightly places as seen in the photos. #158: This one is really off centre because of the base. I have simply glued the integral bases to the 30mm rounds, which keeps the original off-centre feel of the model. #159: Here I have tried edge-highlighting, that is painting the edges directly with the brush and not drybrushing or similar other techniques. I am not really satisfied with the results, but live and learn. It would seem I have been a bit heavy handed or even missed what I have been aiming at here and there. The other bits are painted in the same way as above, apart fromt he monkey on his back that was first done in brown ink, but did not work. So I went over it with two tones of brown paint instead. Eye in Vallejo Magic blue and Reaper Copper Verdigris. Oh, and I used black ink on the eyepatch. The boathook was not painted with dark gray wash first, but just edge highlighted with Scalecolor Amethyst Metal.This makes it more ethereal I think. The shaft was given a stripe of dark brown. #155: The banshee or female ghost is the one I think worked the best. Here I only drybrushed very very lightly with the Dungeon Slime, just to accent the raised details Then I used old Citadel Turquoise Glaze from the top to the waist, easying up a bit the further down I went with the brush. After that I used Old Citadel Blue Ink on and around the head and shoulders. I used Orange Ink on the face and exposed flesh bits in front and wicking most of it away after a short while so that just a hint was left. I did some further light drybrushing with dungeon slime then pure white at the ends of the wispy trails. Good morning everybody and Happy New Year! So I actually had these painted since the very beginning of the year, but had to go out of town and couldn't get their bases finished until I got back. So here are my first miniatures completed for 2020, four lizard men that Julie Guthrie sculpted for Ral Partha if I recall correctly in 1982-1983 with her series All Things Dark and Dangerous. I've always really loved these figures and have had them on my pending list of stuff to paint, but finally got around to really painting them. I painted each one in a different color because I wanted a bit of variety. They did all start of though being covered by a good layer of Creamy Ivory (Reaper) and then I did washes on all that, and then afterwards chose the actual color and kept going. Anyhow, hope you guys like these guys!

I figured I should put up a Show Off thread for this since I haven't seen any other fully painted versions anywhere. This is the resin Maiden Bust that was offered as an exclusive at Reapercon last year, sculpted by the wonderful Julie Guthrie. @buglips*the*goblin bought her for me before I even knew she existed because, just between you and me, he's actually a sweetheart. After painting her skin, I realized she bore a striking resemblance to Tori Amos, so I had to make her a redhead. Pictures aren't the best, my harsh lighting is blowing out the contrast, I ran an Auto Fix through editing software to cut back some of the glare, but I didn't want to mess with them too much. Also my Kimera Kolors box was obviously not the best backdrop, but photography just isn't my hobby, sorry. I hope y'all like her anyway.

Hi everyone, here are pictures of the diorama I made for the forum contest. As I mention in my entry post, this Dungeon Dwellers Diorama is my first 3D printed project. I created this interactive base to display Reaper Miniatures models; 07002 Baran Blacktree the Veteran Warrior, 07004 Stitch Thimbletoe the Halfling Thief, 07008 Luwin Phost the Wizard and 07012 Caerindra Thistlemoor the Fighter all sculpted by Bobby Jackson, along with 02712 Eyebeast sculpted by Julie Guthrie and 03017 Charnel Grub sculpted by Jason Wiebe. I designed the dungeon model and printed it myself. The dungeon wall, pillar, door, the crate, the barrel and the chandelier are all 3D printed. The torch is from Reaper’s 02638 Adventuring Accessories sculpted by Sandra Garrity. The extra eyestalks on the Eyebeast are from Reaper’s 03440 Creature Components II. I used Reaper’s MSP acrylics, Citadel inks, Vallejo Matt Varnish. The four adventurers base are imbedded in the display diorama and they are removable. Last, there are two small magnets under the Charnel Grub and in the wall, so the models, except for the Eyebeast, can be removed and utilized for game play. This was an 18 dollar add on to the Bones 4 campaign, the rather massive Skeletal Dragon. And what an excellent specimen it is! I made a 230x110mm base for it on my 3D printer. It needed to be printed in two parts as it was far to large for my 140x140mm print bed. I glued ot together. gave it a once over with some sandpaper and stuck the bones base to it. How I painted it: Black undercoat with white ink zenithal sprayed on. After this was thoroughly dried out, I painted Citadel Skeleton Horde contrast (yes! Contrast paint! It works like a thicker ink or stain!) all over. When this was thoroughly dry, I drybrushed in varying degree with several bone-type colours, both yellowish and whiteish ending with Reaper Splintered Bone at the very tops. Details such as horns and claws in gloss black. Base in Vallejo Earth followed by some tufts and my autumnal flock mix, finised with black rims. A relatively fast method to do skeletons of all kinds. We can make our camp in this ancient shelter made from the bones of a beast long dead...yes, that will be very safe indeed. I admit to getting a bit more than just the core set in the Bones 4 kickstarter....but I have decided to paint the entire core set before tackling any of the expansion sets. However, there are also a bunch of add-ons to do. Most of those are rather large... but we start with some mid-sized ones: These are the "Skeletal Monsters" add on subset. A Chimera, an Owlbear and a Manticore, plus a heap of monster bones / spawn pile scatter terrain piece. Also there is a sprue of different heads to you can convert to other monster skeletons if you like. I am keeping the sprue of monster skulls in the bitsbox for now. The wings are in a much more rigid (and presumably more brittle) material than the bodies that seem to be in the more rigid bones 3 material. Chimera: I made a 3D printed 70x50mm oval base for this one. These were hollowed out from the top so the miniatures own base fit inside, with some putty to fill them out. Owlbear: I made a 50x30mm base for this one. Manticore: This one has a 60x35 base. The bone pile scatter terrain bit. I have a bone to pick with you guys... How I painted these: Black undercoat with white ink zenithal sprayed on. After this was thoroughly dried out, I painted Citadel Skeleton Horde contrast (yes! Contrast paint! This one has been standing around half-painted for a while. The rule 63 Drizzt Do'Urden from Bones 2. This model is quite nice from the front and back, but really flat from the side. Which is typical of originally made for single piece metal casting-minis. Your panther has made a mess of my carpet! Hello everybody, here's one I just completed, a Ral Partha female adventurer, I think sculpted by Julie Guthrie, because it's from the All Things Dark and Dangerous range. Hoping the photos are in proper focus. I really enjoyed the fact she had a sling and that the sling ball was sculpted into it. Not overly happy with my metals on this one, but she'll do for now!

And my last figure from this week, a giant rat, sculpted way long ago by the immortal Julie Guthrie. I should have taken a comparison shot for this one, as he's really small, but you can probably guess because his base is one of those itty bitty bases I think used for 15 mm figures, not sure where I scored them from. They might have come with the familiars in some Stonehaven Kickstarter. Being that I couldn't take the Friday after July 4th off, because the rest of my department already had dibs, I ended up taking Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, as well as today and I've had some pretty productive painting mornings, so got lots done and this is another one of those figures: He's slightly out of focus but he's really, really small.. One one of the angles you can see a little piece of flash I couldn't get rid of. Anyway, enjoy once again! More figures in a few days!
