I've always loved the sculpt of this model. It captures a real sense of movement, which is something I'm always impressed by. I painted it up using color shift paint. Basically, it looks green from one angle and takes a goodish tint from other angles (it's hard to capture the effect in still images, obviously). Overall, I think it came out looking okay. Thoughts and criticism welcomed.

So, finished this one up over the weekend and got some pictures taken. I didn't really realize it but I've been painting a decent number of magic users recently, and here's another to add to the list, a "wizard with staff", sculpted by Julie Guthrie, probably back in the latter eighties, fun piece. I didn't want him to look too old with a white beard, so went with a darker color. One more down, thousands more to go!

Hey everyone, I completed another one Yesterday. Some more orange... on a completely different model. She reminded me of Red Sonja so I decided to paint her hair fiery red. This is 02759, Dena the Barbarian sculpted by Dennis Mize. The Gravestone of Protection 77539 was sculpted by Julie Guthrie and the Shrine is a 3d print by Aleda at Gothic Things.

I finished up the two figures on the left this weekend, and the other one last month (although I didn’t post a picture at the time). They are the three members of a package originally sold by Ral Partha as 02-946, Champions, from the “All Things Dark and Dangerous” range sculpted by Julie Guthrie. I don’t especially need more fighters to support my hypothetical D&D game, but I had them on hand and primed them near the start of the pandemic. I won them in an Ironwind sponsored round of the speed painting competitions at Gencon a couple of years back.

Good evening Reaperaurians! So just finished this one up and got him photographed, a mini I've been wanting to paint forever but just recently found the time and space, it's a very nice classic Ral Partha Dragon, sculpted back in the eighties by the immortal Julie Guthrie, sculptress extraordinaire! Biggest and only real problem was to decide on the color, but once I did, it didn't really feel like it took too long. The other thing was I didn't know how low I wanted to paint those bumps and spiked black, so I kind of just painted them at the head and then at the tail but I had liked the shading I'd done on the rest of the bumps enough that I just decided to leave him red. and then some closeups: So hope you enjoy him, I think this brings up my lifetime total of painted dragons to maybe six or seven. Haven't done too many!

Hey everyone! I completed Dorella last September and just found some time last week to paint and add her pet next to her. Here's Dorella Kreeg and her Giant Rat familiar named "It Tickles". She's a sorcerer in The Hook Mountain Massacre Written by Nicolas Logue, the third chapter in the Rise of the Runelords adventure path published in 2007 for Pathfinder. 60027, Dorella Kreeg the Ogre Shaman was sculpted by David Summers and the 07031, Giant Rats (familiar) were sculpted by Julie Guthrie. There is a magnet under the rat that has no base so it can stay securely on Dorella's base or be removed when the other model is used individually on its 25mm base.

Some more ghouly chill down your spine, this is the stuff of nightmare. These are 77720, Ghouls and Ghast sculpted by Julie Guthrie and Bob Ridolfi.

The Eye Beast (77043) by Julie Guthrie is finished. In the end this almost counts as a speed paint, as it only took me around three evenings. The central eye really caused me headaches. First it was green, then I decided it needs more contrast. So yellow it was. I also tried out a layer of UV resin to get the glossy cabochon eye look and I think it worked well. What really helped speed up the process was establishing the base colours via airbrush. Everything else was just glazes with dark brown, turquois and orange.

Hello everyone, here are some ensemble pictures of my entry in the "Dia de los Muertos" Sugar Skull Painting Contest. I had simply posted a closeup photo of the skull for the contest. This is the Bones version of 77116, Colossal Skeleton sculpted by Jason Wiebe. This Undead is Huge, 120mm tall, almost 5 inches. Notice I repositioned its arms and removed the shrouds that were hanging between its legs. The other elements on the base are from Reaper Miniatures as well. There are 77528, Graveyard Ruined Fences by Bob Ridolfi, a 77531, Graveyard Fence Post and 77731, Gargoyle Finials also by Bob Ridolfi, a 77538, Gravestone of Sorrow sculpted by Julie Guthrie and one of the 77534, Tombstones sculpted by Kevin Williams. I used roots, birch tree seed hulls and various synthetic mosses to complete the scene. The base is 75mm (3 inches) wide and was 3d printed. Enjoy!

Well, it's been a while since my last WIP project so here's what happens when you browse the Reaper Discord late at night and think "Hey! That's a FANTASTIC idea!". The Discord is home to the Reaper Challenge League and it has many, many categories. My favorite is the seasonal/holiday one. Simply put, you pick a holiday or event(ie.Christmas/St Patrick's day/The Coopers Hill Cheese Race etc) and paint a mini to match the theme. As many of you are aware, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the signature colour for that is pink. A few people were talking about doing pink minis for the challenge and I figured that I've already done a multicolored dragon, so how hard can it be? This, my friends, is what this work in progress thread is about to attempt. Abandon all sanity and colour sense, all ye who continue to read here, because things are about to get fabulous! First of all, the choice of dragon needed to be considered. Too small and you don't get the impact, too large and you're painting the beast all year. I needed a nice, mid sized dragon and I happened to have a spare of this bad boy. I've always loved Narthrax. His angry face, the unusual tilted pose and the awesome scale placement are just fantastic. He's truly one of my favorite dragons and I've been looking for an excuse to paint him something different from the standard chromatic or metallic dragons for quite a while now. Most of the my painting is for tabletop gaming purposes so it's nice to shift gear once in a while. So first things first, I gave him a nice soapy bath to prepare him for painting. Sorry, no photos of that- a dragon has to retain some dignity! Here's the 'after' shot! I glued on the leg and tail and left the head and wings separate, mostly for ease of painting. Then I gave home a good, slightly thinned coat of Blue Liner 9066. This provides a nice, even base coat and helps prevent the paint rubbing off further down the road. And thus the madness begins! This is where I started giving every single scale a layer of Rich Indigo, making sure that there's still a good amount of the dark liner in the shadows. At this point I realized that a test area was probably a good idea, so I started playing around with highlight colours, finally deciding on Witchcraft Purple 07977 and, appropriately enough, BCA Pink which Reaper are kind enough to put into online orders in October. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how bright to go but at least it doesn't look entirely hideous! Admittedly, your milage may vary on this one. Heck, I might hate pink by the end of this endeavor, you never know. Lots of blocking in the purple and pink, with an attempt on the belly scales. Not entirely sure about that, might need to see how bright the upper scales go. More blocking in of the scales and a bit of work on the wings, using Rich Indigo and Desna Blue. Then the Witchcraft Purple starts getting layered on in earnest. This is the point where I start to second guess myself. He's starting to look like a particularly dangerous fuschia.... That's pretty much where the mini is now, hopefully I haven't bored you all too much or damaged your retinas. I'm hoping to get some more work done tomorrow so I'll keep posting as often as I can. I think that this is one of those projects that needs attention little and often. Thanks for looking everybody!

Hello everyone, here are pictures of a special NPC I painted last night. Originally an Aquatic Elf, I converted her to make her a Drow abjurator accompanied by her black fox. I slightly converted 03631, Quoralei from the original model sculpted by Derek Schubert for the Dark Heaven Legends line. I replaced the sea shell she was holding by a spellbook and added a wand in her left hand. The 60048, Fox familiar was sculpted by Julie Guthrie, it's originally the familiar of Feiya the Iconic Witch from the Pathfinder line.

Hello everyone. Here it is, I completed my chimeric aberration. At the heart of the barren wasteland, during a cursed journey to redemption, the champion met a limping chimeric aberration. It has the main features of a giant hound, a vulture head stretches out of its right side and a hulking insect head sits on the left side. Every part I used are from Reaper Miniatures. The main body is a 02817 Moor Hound sculpted by Ben Siens. The two extra heads are from 03069, Hooked Hulk sculpted by Michael Brower which are included in 03440 creature components pack 2. The spiked tail is from a 14456 Mastema sculpted by Julie Guthrie, included in 03334 Creature Components. The wings are from a 03641 Gunslinger model sculpted by Bob Ridolfi. I finally swapped its left side paws for claw and a palmed foot at the back. These parts are part of the 03440 creature components pack 2. The colors are all Reaper MSP paint. I was inspired by the Cù-Sìth from the Scottish folklore for the main body. The additional heads have traditional vulture and praying mantis colors. Due to the large size of the monster, I built a 50mm wide base. I plan to create the stats for this monster and build a surprise encounter for my fellow D&D player. Hello everyone, here is a model from the early 80s. Ral Partha 02-912, Giant Rat sculpted by Julie Guthrie. I placed it on a 20mm base and painted in with Reaper MSP paint.

Hello everyone, I completed this aberration Yesterday. The metal version 02838, of the Faceless Horror sculpted by Julie Guthrie. The number of eyes and teeth on this model is phenomenal. It is not an easy monster to deal with. However, I had a lot of fun painting it. I painted the inside of the mouth prior to assembling and I used Reaper MSP paints only. I started painting this aberration during Geoff Davis' class on painting eyes at Reaper Virtual Expo. This was the perfect mini to practice the techniques which have been explained. I also had a lot of fun painting all those toothy smiles and the skin in various colors. I wanted to depict the monster in its natural environment. So, after gluing the Gibbering mouther on a 50mm base, I simply added gravel and stone blocs to complete the scene. I finally added drooling saliva using translucent supports and Mod Podge.

This is the last mini finished in December 2020, mini number 79 of the year. I hit 97 mini if I count large minis as 2 each. Not too shabby, my goal was to finish 50. So this mini is the Female Halfling II from the Julie Guthrie series 2 from Grenadier (SKU 8145). She is the smallest mini I have painted in a long time, so I am super happy with her face.

Good evening all you fine Reaper acolytes! So this evening I've finished another grand old Partha classic, sculpted by the immortal Julie Guthrie, a Sorceress Casting Spell. As always, couldn't easily choose colors, but this is what I came up with: The only problem I really had was her other eye, which just couldn't be reached with a brush, so this is with a close up, how it came out: Sometimes it's just rough getting a brush in such an itty bitty space. So I did what I could. Anyway hope you all enjoy!

Tere Reaperlased! So here's another miniature from the days gone by, a Julie Guthrie Female Giant, originally in her All Things Dark and Dangerous line. This is apparently version two of the miniature. The first one I painted maybe a year or so ago, a more primitive looking hill giant lady, who has always been one of my favorite figures Julie has sculpted along with her female centaur Julie Guthrie Hill Giant Julie Guthrie Centaurs Anyhoos, here she is: and then afterwards a comparison photo so you can see her against one of her contemporaries, a female mage: once again, color choice was so hard and I have no idea where the inspiration for purple hair came from. I think it was due to the fact that she wasn't a earth-tone hill giant, but a little more civilized. And we all know most civilized women have purple hair. Anyhows, hope you enjoy!

Hello again Reaper Message Boardonians! So here's another piece of old school goodness, a Ral Partha Charging Barbarian, sculpted by Julie Guthrie way back in the delightful eighties. This one was originally in one of the Partha Boxed sets, 98-015 Bezerkers, and now is sold individually at Iron Wind Metals. Pretty quick to paint as he was unencumbered by too much armor, clothing or general stuff. My biggest challenge with this fellow was to figure out his hair color. Blonde eventually won the day. Good day everyone, With the dead leaves season comes harvest time. Autumn is also a time for gathering and for reflection. Like the Tuilvilanuue words say "Nilsi hentil kilta anno", it takes four seasons to make a year. Here are some pictures of Julie Guthrie awesome 77923 Skeletal Owlbear. I really enjoyed painting this model. The design of the skeletal beasts that Reaper recently produced is stunning. It is an archeological journey in fantasy land.

Hi everyone, Here is the second skeletal beast I painted last week. This is Bones model 77924, Skeletal Chimera sculpted by Julie Guthrie. I added dirt and moss on it to make it look like it's freshly animated. The leaves are dry birch tree seed hulls. I picked them up in the forest and painted them before gluing them on the base. As a reference, the base is 2 inches wide.
