"This is a board game version of the classic skirmish game and aims to give the same feeling as the original, while making it more accessible and “ready to pick and play”. MonPoc's been through two versions. First, a prepainted collectile mini's game, then a metal one. This unpainted plastic KS is compatible with the second version. The pitch is that it's less expensive than the metal version (and there's no blind purchasing), but it's still gonna be expensive, especially if you go all-in. You play with only two monsters per game, so, imo, the core set and SG's should keep most casual players satisfied. Although the game has multiple factions, you can play the "good" ones together, and the "bad" ones together. Core game is for two players (1v1, solo, coop). Battle Royale is for 3-4 players, and adds Apex monsters as enemies for coop, or bigger monsters for regular play. With this being day three, one dual-faction add-on has been revealed. Game rules are based on the existing Privateer Press Monster Apocalypse v.2 rules. KS is run by Mythic Games. (Better than the reverse, imo!) I assume plastics are made in China, which has had some economic instability, energy shortages, supply chain issues, and shipping issues. The game won't be delivered for at least a year, so obviously today's shipping issues may not affect delivery. But, speaking of shipping, the core box *is* large, and shipping starts at $35. I'd expect to pay more. Other kaiju boardgames exist, including an officially licensed Godzilla one. Mythic has not said if this game will be available retail. I wouldn't be surprised if the discounts expected by distributors make this and other high-end KS games difficult for retail. Also, the high MSRP may keep FLGS customers from picking up the game (much easier to sell $150 of Magic cards than a $150 boardgame, imo). https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1162110258/monsterpocalypse-board-game/posts Three days into the campaign, and they've unlocked about half as many monsters as in the core box!

So, I went to Origins this weekend and entered the Reaper Speed-Paint. I was only supposed to be at the con on Friday and Saturday, but I paved on Friday and won my Saturday semifinal, so I called in sick on Sunday so I could compete in the finals, where I managed to pull off a win. Friday was the scarecrow, Saturday was the hobgoblin, and Sunday they gave us the Jungle Titan. I'd already painted two of the three before, which certainly didn't hurt when it came go time. I didn't get a chance to get pictures in my photo studio before heading out on vacation, so these are the shots I took with my phone at the convention. We had 45 minutes in round 1, 50 minutes in round 2, and a whopping 60 minutes in round 3.

A friend of mine gave me #77380, "Khanjira, World-Breaker" as a gift over the holidays, and challenged me to work it into our ongoing Iron Kingdoms RPG campaign. The thing is, I think it looks rather like an oversized deathclaw, so I might like to use it for some of my Fallout-themed convention games. Hence, I wanted to try to make it do double-duty in both roles. Also, I wanted it to be able to stand up, rather than falling over due to its own dynamic pose and considerable weight when someone bumped the table. So, here's where it is right now. Yeah, I know, I could've taken a bunch of pictures of all the steps to get this far. That would have been the sensible thing. But this is the first point where I really find myself wondering what to do next. Right now, he's big and green, with horns and claws that are basically black but with some grey-blue dry-brushing (that unfortunately just makes it look as if the claws were accidentally brushed with whatever I was using to paint the base). All in all, it's surprisingly boring. And yet, a lot of the Khanjira paint jobs I've seen just look kind of garish, and that's not quite what I want to go for, either. Getting the thing assembled was a challenge. I boiled water, I dunked pieces, I tried to reshape them, and yet I couldn't quite get things to STAY fitting together. I used epoxy putty for gap-filler and to anchor pieces together, but even after I've assembled it and I THOUGHT I had things nicely bonded together, it seems that some of the pieces have warped a little more while I've been painting, and some of the seams have started to show again (with some of the putty breaking away). Argh! I ended up having to pull some of the pieces apart so that I could re-glue them, but I still need to repair the newly-exposed gaps (and then paint over them). I can also see from this photo that I need to shave down some of those seams, as there's a rather glaring one on top of one of the shoulder-guard shell-thingies. (I seem to be having difficulty attaching more than one photo to this post, so I'll have to follow up with separate entries for the other images.)

I got around to painting the Bones 3 Stoneskull expansion "Jungle Titan" a few months back, figured I'd post him up. I wasn't sure on color palette, but then I remembered he was referred to as a "Kaiju" during the KS, and decided to crib the colors from Pacific Rim (or "Awesome Dumb Robot Movie") for the palette, and I think it came out pretty well. His base includes the fallen pillar from Bones 77363 Deva and some clay.

So after many many months of not painting, I decided to get back into painting my second Khanjira. Pending an ok from @Reaperbryan, the plan is to call it Pre-Coffee with a nice fedora. This is also my first mini using a head visor and so many mold lines on this thing. I saw mold lines with the visor that I hadn't noticed or didn't think would be that bad, so many mold lines. Since I wanted to try and make this look like ReaperBryan's Bryanzilla Kaiju, I started with Reaper's new green liner thinned slightly for a nice heavy green undertone. Something I noticed with the green liner that I hadn't noticed with earlier liners was this plasticizer smell, almost like the plastic spoiled. On Khanjira's head/neck piece, I tested out washing the green with Secret Weapon's sunshine (yellow) wash to see if I could duplicate an effect I stumbled on two years ago and it looks like it'll work. I tested it here because if it didn't work or it did I knew it was going to get covered up in the next few steps. After the liner priming, I set out to pre-shade all of the cracks and stippling of the skin and plates. Here I used rich green (about 20-25 drops), 5 drops of coal black, 10 drops of flow improver, 5 of wash medium, and 10 of water. It went on almost like a thick wash, got into the depths but also helped color in and strengthen the liner color. After that, I used dragon green straight to layer the fleshy bits with the first basecoat. In the last two pics, you can see that the normally bright medium green only lightened up the fleshy bits slightly but I think effectively. I think I'm going to mix a bit of green and black liner (maybe 2:1 or 3:1) and line around the plates and other deep shadows before moving onto the next layer. And either after that second green layer or the third one, I'll wash it with SW's sunshine wash. Edited to add that the last photo is actually the rich green/coal black undertone wash. And I figured out how to tag ReaperBryan. I just hope it works as an edit.

Right. So, while I am not officially part of the challenge issued by OneBoot to Buglips (silly kitty, goblins win at everything *cough*), joining the party seemed like a good idea at the time. Now I'm committed. So! Prepare yourself, Kaiju! You will be painted! Bwehahahahaa! As I am doing this Challenge style, I am sticking to certain Roolz: No brushes large than size 0! These are some tiny brushes. In order to maintain compliance, I have cleared all larger brushes, sponges, q-tips and other items from reach. The kaiju shall be painted in seven days! I will be starting this party at 4PM PST, and finishing it ... um. before today in a week. Or I will go crazy. We'll see. Post painting, I have only washed the kaiju. All other prep is forbidden until I actually begin the challenge! I must paint all the things, and all the things must be painted! Fortunately, Khanjira only includes himself, there are no extra bits or heroes to paint. Being crazy isn't a requirement, although it is likely to be a result. Fortunately, I am already something less than sane so it's likely no one will notice a difference. I plan to paint an epic kaiju Tarresque, so there will be lots of purple paint. Whee!

Here's my entry for this years huge reaper minis competition. We've already gotten to use him in our campaign with my little one (the mouslings mostly fought him from the inside after they got swallowed). I decided to go with a strong light and dark composition for him- I honestly think he matches the Iron Kingdoms dragons pretty well. If he had a head plate over his eyes, he'd fit right in with everblight warbeasts (except that he's a whole lot bigger).
