Hey look, yet another Jasper topic..... But this one is different (I hope). I actually have a time frame in mind, to get this finished before the end of 2020, and submitted for the annual diorama contest. I love dioramas, and I've been pretty happy with the few I've made. BUT I always put off getting started and then end up rushing over Christmas to get everything done. So this year I'm starting in January (if just barely) so that I will hopefully get some stuff done before December. I've had the idea for this diorama since the very first moment I saw my first "sneak preview" of Khanjira (that would have been approximately Fri, Oct 25, 2013, 7:57 PM ADT, according to when I got the email from Kickstarter). My first though was something like "What a beast! Imagine if he was fighting something from a smaller scale, like CAV...." So that has been bouncing around in my head ever since. Then I was messaging with @Pochi a few weeks ago about the contests and got talking about dioramas, and I mentioned this idea, and she said I HAD to do it.....so here we are. Basic concept is the classic Kaiju attacking a future city harbour. CAVs (any or all of tanks, vehicles, mechs, infantry, maybe even aircraft) defending. (I briefly considered going even smaller scale as I have quite a bit of 6mm stuff too, but CAVs are easier to work with, I have about a billion of them, and they are awesome). Today was a beginning. I grabbed some stuff and laid it out just to get an idea of a size I'm going to want. Obviously I just grabbed what was handy to get some scale. Khanjira is represented by my 7 days Khanjira (handy, that ). I plan to try to get him a little more upright, since he won't be on his base and at least his front foot will be "under water". With his pose (which I don't think I have the skill or know how to adjust too much) I'm thinking maybe an elevated highway that he has just crushed to be what his right leg is on. That or a boat of some sort....we'll see. The box is just a reference for the land, glasses are just some buildings. I'm picturing something similar to the Halifax waterfront with boardwalks or something and docks/jetties (the grey upside down drawer represents) and then big buildings. Army will be in place along the waterfront, so some barricades and stuff. Possibly a trench of energy blasted ruin from the "breath weapon" if I think I can pull that off. Again, we'll see. So just from the mock up, this is going to be fairly massive...like approaching 2 foot kind of dimensions Not something I would do if I was following advice on building award winning dioramas, but then that's not what I'm focusing on. I just want to make the image in my mind a reality, and I'm using the contest deadline to hopefully focus me. I'm also going to have to learn to do a bunch of new stuff for this, which should be fun! Step one will be to dig out my other Khanjira and start cleaning up up. And decide on what I'm going to use for a base for this thing.....

Now that I've completed Domog, high priest of Rovagug, it's time to move on to the lesser threat: the Tarrasque, Herald of Rovagug. I got Khanjira the world breaker with the Kickstarter ages ago, and dusted off the box recently while working on Domog. I was saddened to discover the big guy's left leg was missing. Fortunately, Reaper is awesome and they shipped me a replacement leg! With a nice bottle of paint to boot. :-)

Okay, so now that multiple people are doing 7-day challenges, here's the present iteration of rules and guidelines. Please note that these challenges are fan-run and not officially endorsed by or affiliated with Reaper Miniatures. Reaper may, at their sole discretion, offer a prize when such challenges overlap with contests, but for the most part these are just for kicks and maybe some forum fame. The Basics: 1. You may use no brushes larger than Size 0. As Size 0 can vary by company and brand, the average bristle dimensions are 10mm long by 1mm wide. When selecting brushes, try to be as close to this guideline as possible. 2. You have 7 full days to complete from your posted start time (including a picture with a time stamp from a phone or computer screen is helpful to establish this) to complete the model. 3. All visible areas must be painted, and all paint must be applied with a regulation brush. 4. No drilling, filing, mold line removal or other prepwork is permitted before start time. The only preparation allowed is to dry fit your pieces to make sure the model is complete, and do any boiling and reshaping necessary to correct warpage and return the model to "factory spec". You may also clean the pieces with soap and water. 5. All pieces as included in the box set at retail must be painted. This includes, for example, the 5 adventurer figures included with Dragons Don't Share 2. (Note that this means you cannot remove any parts) 6. You must declare in your thread title that you are doing a 7-day challenge (ex: Kaladrax in 7 Days; Khanjira in 7 Days). This way your thread gets noticed as a challenge so I can watch the fun and make arrangements for the prize if you succeed. 7. Eligible models for the challenge are: Khanjira, Kaladrax Reborn, Dragons Don't Share 2, and (when available) Ma'aldrakkar. FAQ: What about inks and pigments? - Inks, washes, and pigments are treated as paint. So long as you apply them with a size 0, it's fine. Note that previously inks were not allowed, but it was easier to treat them all as paint than to codify a dozen special cases. What if I want to add custom terrain or other models as a diorama? - The challenge only covers the painting of the retail set model. In general, this is plenty of work as is. There is no prohibition against doing extra work during the 7 days, but if you can leave it until after you complete the challenge it would be best so as to ensure you finish in time. This is my strong recommendation, as any leftover time during painting can be used to help polish your paint job after completing the basic requirements. In a competition, when such is running, terrain and mods are neither penalized nor worth extra points, so serve as wasted time and are best left out until after. (Note: greenstuffing gaps counts as terrain for this purpose, you don't get any extra points for gap-filling. The challenge only covers the model as stock and the painting of it) Is it really that grueling? - Yes. The challenge is designed so that you will never have enough time to do all that you want to do and must make compromises. It is also unusually taxing physically and mentally. It is important to pace yourself and it is easy to set out too ambitiously. This is also why extraneous work is best left until afterward. It's a lot to do on a deadline and will almost certainly mess with your head a little. Do I get a prize for doing this crazy thing? - Yes. All who successfully complete the challenge will get a Not-Trophy from me. Not-Trophies may be subject to change based on availability but presently consist of a Certificate of Survival from the International Goblinhood of Painters, and a small faux-bronzed figure. There will also be a small digital title you may add to your signature to show off your feat to everyone (collect them all!) Do I have to use Reaper Liner Colours as a Basecoat? - No. Many people do in order to help mitigate wear and tear from handling because it works very well on Bones material. Unless you are sure of using a very robust paint, it's probably not a bad idea. But it is not required, only recommended. What if I find out I have missing or damaged pieces partway through? - Dry-fitting of parts is highly recommended before starting to check for errors or warping, but in the event you discover an issue while already underway you can contact Reaper for a replacement and then continue the challenge with all the bits you have. This will count as a completion. If you have duplicate parts, such as two front legs instead of a left and right, you must paint both duplicate parts (the duplicate thus standing in for the proper piece as a stunt double). This also applies to damaged parts. This prevents the need to stop the challenge to wait on a replacement. When said replacement arrives, you may complete and assemble the model for show-off purposes. This sort of scenario should be quite rare. Can I tape three 0 brushes together, or use one size 0 in each hand? - You may not modify your size 0 in any way unless said modification is subtractive. i.e. - you can cut the bristles and flatten the ferrule to make a more flat brush out of your regulation size 0. You cannot make any modification that is additive (taping multiple brushes together). You can, however, use one brush in each hand. This is not likely to work very well, however, and will probably waste time rather than save it. Can I use super glue accelerant if it is a spray? - Yes, but only if you do not otherwise use it to alter the paintable surfaces. You may only use it during assembly for its designed purpose. When assembling the model, the participant can use any sort of adhesive desired - or even none at all if it can hold together without it. This is to allow those who wish to do extra work to do so after entering their challenge, so that the model may be easily disassembled at that time. Can I modify the figures, remove parts, or give them new bases? - No, all parts included in the kit as stock must be painted. It's best to just paint it as is and do any modifications after the challenge. Done carefully, this should be achievable without major damage to painted pieces. I messed up on my paintjob and want to remove some paint. Can I? - Yes, but only if you intend to reapply paint over that area. You could not, for example, paint an area and then wipe it off with a cloth to remove paint and then use this as quick shading - the cloth would count as an outside and invalid tool used to alter the finish.

I have just put together my Khanjira: the World Breaker. I'm new to the world of painting, I would like to paint him in the color scheme or the Tarrasque from the Monster Manual 5th Edition. Would any of you know the colors/ names/ SKU codes/ Product numbers and brushes I would need for this project. I've looked into 2 Reaper Bones Starter Kits on Amazon... one for painting and one for dry brushing. I imagine they won't have all the colors I need. So any help would be wonderful. Thank you!

Hello there! I'm new to the world of Reaper Bones. I don't usually buy unpainted mini, let alone unpainted minis which require assembly but the Khanjira The World Breaker and the C'thulhu minis were something I couldn't walk away from. I'm a Call of Cthulhu fanboy, I have always wanted to use him in an D&D campaign and never thought my Horrorclix Mighty Cthulhu fit the bill, especially with the stagnant form of him rising up out of the ocean. I also plan on using Khanjira The World Breaker as the Tarrasque. The Tarrasque is a gargantuan creature. What size round base would I use for that? Would 160mm work? I also assume Cthulhu would be gargantuan, I have always pictured him being collassal sized but the Reaper Bones mini doesn't reflect that size scale so perhaps he'd be more a Starspawn or aspect of Cthulhu? Meh, who cares? I'm HAPPY with the two pieces and looking forward to painting them as I couldn't wait to assemble them! But any help and advice about base size would be quite useful, thank you!

I know it's not 'actually' a Tarrasque, but it's certainly a pretty good stand in, so that's how I painted it. This is the biggest model I have every painted, and I think it turned out pretty well. Enjoy, I know my D&D player won't...Muhaha!

So after many many months of not painting, I decided to get back into painting my second Khanjira. Pending an ok from @Reaperbryan, the plan is to call it Pre-Coffee with a nice fedora. This is also my first mini using a head visor and so many mold lines on this thing. I saw mold lines with the visor that I hadn't noticed or didn't think would be that bad, so many mold lines. Since I wanted to try and make this look like ReaperBryan's Bryanzilla Kaiju, I started with Reaper's new green liner thinned slightly for a nice heavy green undertone. Something I noticed with the green liner that I hadn't noticed with earlier liners was this plasticizer smell, almost like the plastic spoiled. On Khanjira's head/neck piece, I tested out washing the green with Secret Weapon's sunshine (yellow) wash to see if I could duplicate an effect I stumbled on two years ago and it looks like it'll work. I tested it here because if it didn't work or it did I knew it was going to get covered up in the next few steps. After the liner priming, I set out to pre-shade all of the cracks and stippling of the skin and plates. Here I used rich green (about 20-25 drops), 5 drops of coal black, 10 drops of flow improver, 5 of wash medium, and 10 of water. It went on almost like a thick wash, got into the depths but also helped color in and strengthen the liner color. After that, I used dragon green straight to layer the fleshy bits with the first basecoat. In the last two pics, you can see that the normally bright medium green only lightened up the fleshy bits slightly but I think effectively. I think I'm going to mix a bit of green and black liner (maybe 2:1 or 3:1) and line around the plates and other deep shadows before moving onto the next layer. And either after that second green layer or the third one, I'll wash it with SW's sunshine wash. Edited to add that the last photo is actually the rich green/coal black undertone wash. And I figured out how to tag ReaperBryan. I just hope it works as an edit.

Hey! l haven't done a WIP thread in a while now. I know Bones III is the new hotness now, and Mal'drakhar is the shiny that everyone wants to paint. But I got a comission to paint Khanjira, and and one of my own to paint, too: The comission doesn't want to have "dinosaur colors or Godzilla colors" and likes the idea of a blue Khanjira. I'm flipping back and forth on mine; I might go with a red and purple color scheme, or I might do a "Pacific Rim"-inspired dark grey with a blue bioluminescent glow on his eyes, mouth and parts of his armor. I'll mock up some colors after I get one assembled and photographed. I started the comission yesterday, and so far have managed to trim the flash and mold lines from just four parts - and 10 more to go. There's a lot of mold lines on each part, and removing each one potato-peeler style takes a lot of time! (I tend to nibble them away.) At my rate, I estimate about 2-3 evenings left for removing mold lines on just the first one. Oh, and I just know that there'll be the question of why I don't take the 7-day goblin challenge. No, sorry, just no. I'm one of those types that can't stand exposed mold lines or gaps on my finished models, and resolving that alone would disqualify me for doing that before the challenge started, or take up too much of the week to finish on time. And also, I have still a few scraps of sanity left... and want to keep them! Next update when I finish surface cleanup and start fitting the pieces...

Don't know why I'm so nervous to put this out there. Really it's just for fun and no big deal, but I'd like to enter myself into a goblin challenge starting tomorrow, May 24. Time Tbd. Khanjira is currently still in the box. Tonight I will dry fit, clean, and attempt to fix warping. Tomorrow afternoon I will begin the challenge. Just to be sure: I have a couple packs of round size 10/0, 5/0, and 3/0. Any of those would be allowed, correct? They are within the 10 mm long, but not sure where to measure the 1 mm wide. At the ferrule, just the bristles at the ferrule end or the tip? okay, now to clean the paint area and I'd some colors.

I painted this a while ago but am just now getting around to taking/posting photos. He was too big to fit in my light box so I had to deal with the less than optimal lighting in the apartment. I'm really happy with how he came out now that he's done. I had about a week where I wanted to throw him in a bath of simple green and start over but I got over that and called him done. I am really really happy with how his eyes came out though.

So I've been painting Khanjira for a long time now. Like for a year-ish now. The last time I picked it up I just wasn't happy with how it was turning out and just put it on the shelf and there it sat. Until now. I've finally picked it back up again, I'm not terribly disappointed in how it's turning out but it's still got a long way to go. I figure by making this WIP thread I will hopefully get it done in a timely manner. And by timely manner I mean by Valentine's Day. No particular reason for the date, it's just a date that I will remember. Anyway, here is my progress so far: Ignore the state of my desk, it's been worse. Also, note to self, stop putting models together before painting them.

I am declaring victory! This is my Khanjira. There are many like it, but this one is mine. It is my doom. I must master it as I must master my death. Without me my Khanjira is mildly peckish. ... wait, that's something else. Started on Boxing Day, and didn't get a bunch of time to work on it a few of the days, but I managed to grind it out. There's definitely room for improvement, but my goal was to get it to the point where I can put it on the table during a game and be happy about it, and I've achieved that. I do still want to put it on a more rigid base (I'll probably do up a fancy piece of MDF at some point) but that's not required for the goblin challenge and I needed to get this thing off my elfing desk so I can work on something else. Dunno what else to say... Any questions?

Recently (Monday evening) I completed my first 7 day Goblin Challenge, following the guidelines put forth by our resident Goblin Buglips here. I'd booked a week off (Tuesday to Tuesday, for silly work reasons) and figured I'd try doing Khanjira before even considering the soonTM to come 5 Heads in 7 Days. So, with a fist full of Size 0 brushes in hand, I set off. Little did I know that fate would throw just about every delay causing event in the book at me, I managed to complete it with 28 minutes to spare (and was only half an hour late for D&D). You can read all about it over in the WIP. Khanjira is too big for my normal photo setup so I had to improvise.... He was actually pretty fun to paint, and I'll definitely consider doing another challenge at some point.

It's time! (Well, not right now, but a little bit later it will be....you know). I'm starting a week of stay-cation tonight (our on-call schedule is Tuesday to Tuesday. is it a pain for vacations, yes, but it avoids all the Monday holiday switching stuff....) and as my only real plan was to not be at work I thought it was time I got in on the, umm, fun? that is the 7 day Goblin Challenge. My opponent for the week will be Khanjira, the supposed World Breaker (honestly, I dropped him and he barely even cracked the world, hardly a scratch). Here is a candid shot of him relaxing in the hot tub yesterday....doesn't look so tough to me.... Official start time will be sometime this evening, when we get back from the office Christmas tree lighting and fireworks. (That's right, I'm kicking off my 7 day challenge with fireworks!! )

So at last years ReaperCon I decided to do something geeky with one of my Khanjiras, Hello Kitty colors. I started off by priming Khanjira with blue liner and the terrain base with grey liner. The base was layered with Dwarven Forge's earth stone, wet drybrushed with Reaper's ruddy brown, drybrushed with Dwarven Forge's cavern stone, and washed with mossy green. Eventually I'll go in and add some barnacles and seaweed. For Khanjira's body, I used two thinned layers of ghost white followed by two thinned layers of 50/50 ghost white and spectral white to make the under coat and finished up with two layers of 66/33 pure white and ghost white for the base cost. The scales and bony protrusions were under coated three layers of thinned dragon red. I wasn't to worried about getting a little of the dragon red on the skin as it'll help get the red/pink reflection later. The next step is to base coat the scales and boney protrusions with punk rocker pink.

In case you've forgotten the roolz and are too lazy to go to the link above, I'll repeat my version of them because I know clicking things is hard. 1) Thou shalt not use any brush larger than a standard size 0. 0 shall be the number on the brush, and the number on the brush shall be 0. 1 shalt thou not use, neither use thou 2, excepting that thou ensures that it is actually 0/2 on the brush. 5 is right out. Once the size 0, being the correct number, be reached, then lobbest thy size 0 brush towards thy foe, who being made of Bones, shall be painted. 2) 7 full days (168 consecutive hours) from when the timer starts are all the time that is allowed in this challenge; whether that time is spent working, sleeping, painting or sobbing uncontrollably is up to the participant. 3) Boiling and scrubbing the model to remove casting residue are the only prep tasks allowed prior to the timer being started. Removing mold lines, greenstuffing or otherwise altering the original sculpt in any way beyond factory spec is prohibited. 4) The timer starts with the posting of a picture of Khanjira and my intended brush(es) to be used and a device bearing my local time. The challenge will therefore end at the same time 7 days (168 consecutive hours) later or whenever I complete the task prior to time running out. Well, because I'm so awesome at life, I have done zero of the allowed prep work. My desk is a mess, with most of my paint bottles spread out all over it instead of in their racks, I've not even completely taken Khanjira out of the packaging, much less dry-fit or scrubbed or boiled him. Oh and I'm at work right now and will be for the next 8 or so hours. This is just one of those times where you know you've got nothin' to lose, but, you know, yolo. So if I've done none of that, then what have I done to prepare myself, you ask? Well, I have thought a lot about the paint scheme. Here are some inspiration pictures: Welcome to the show.

Hey guys been away for a while painting the mighty Khanjira!! What a great model to add to my ever growing Dungeons and Dragons campaign! I decided to give Khanjira a ghostly haunting look! As always comments are wanted and appreciated! Just to note instead of doing boring stonework for the base I opted for trying out Jade! Let me know if you think it works!

Right. So, while I am not officially part of the challenge issued by OneBoot to Buglips (silly kitty, goblins win at everything *cough*), joining the party seemed like a good idea at the time. Now I'm committed. So! Prepare yourself, Kaiju! You will be painted! Bwehahahahaa! As I am doing this Challenge style, I am sticking to certain Roolz: No brushes large than size 0! These are some tiny brushes. In order to maintain compliance, I have cleared all larger brushes, sponges, q-tips and other items from reach. The kaiju shall be painted in seven days! I will be starting this party at 4PM PST, and finishing it ... um. before today in a week. Or I will go crazy. We'll see. Post painting, I have only washed the kaiju. All other prep is forbidden until I actually begin the challenge! I must paint all the things, and all the things must be painted! Fortunately, Khanjira only includes himself, there are no extra bits or heroes to paint. Being crazy isn't a requirement, although it is likely to be a result. Fortunately, I am already something less than sane so it's likely no one will notice a difference. I plan to paint an epic kaiju Tarresque, so there will be lots of purple paint. Whee!

Speedpainting these two to try and get them done and given to the friend they belong to before we move.

Quietly, I sat, but lurking in my unpainted box something evil stirred. It called to me. Sang me its siren song. I got out my glue.

Hello, I wanted to complete Khanjira before this week-end, and I'm pleased to post it and consider it done... for now... I don't have a good story for him yet, but I imagine him as the secret love child of a Crocodilian and a Shell Fish. (Don't ask me for the details on how this happened... Love follows no laws... even physics or biology) So I painted him green & blue with white highlights and tried to blend it together. It turned out a bit darker than I had wished, and bends a bit backwards where the heavy tail is. (despites lots of boiling and bending). Oh well... My big base helps on stability.

SELFIE! I just ate some dwarfs, does my breath stink? Sorry, too close? /hack /hack Sorry, hairball. Should I get this growth checked out? I don't feel so good... maybe dwarfs are not good eat before bed. /hurl Primered black, dry brushed gray, hightlighted white, glazed with brown, green, purple, washed with black, touched up with gray and ivory. And I'm still finding mold lines I missed. Very cool model, though.
