  1. You knew it was going to happen, didn't you.... My Oathsworn KS cam the other day, and I thought it might make a break from painting scales on Czaristikalian... (Nathavarr) So I dremeled the center circle a bit to make all the inserts fit, attached the pieces to handles, and primed them black.... Stay tuned for more.....
  2. The project that my friend asked me to paint in January 2016 is now done! (I actually started the week after Reapercon 2016....) WiP Pics of the Full Force (Less the 2 Cobras, that I forgot to include!) They are sitting on a special tray that my friend gave me for my birthday at Historicon, 2013. He has one just like it.... (The patch is one that I actually wore as a tanker in Germany from May 1984 to may 1986....) Situation: August 1st, 1985 "We interrupt this program for a special announcement. Unconfirmed reports from Brussels, headquarters of NATO, state that the NATO nations have ordered their armed forces to mobilize and commence deployment to their wartime positions." 2 days prior, we see the small German hamlet of Sinntal, all is very quiet on the pre dawn of a Wednesday morning... Nothing seems out of place.... (This is a 6' by 4' terrain table that I set up to take pics for this show off. These are all piece from my WW II collection, as I have not purchased any of the new 'modern' buildings....) 0400 hrs 4 August 1985 Task Force 'Meatball' C Co, 1-33 Armor, 3rd US 'Spearhead' Armored Division, Captain Calvin 'Meatball' Albondega, commanding, has occupied it's wartime deployment fighting positions.... The HQ Platoon, consisting of C66 and C65, has co located with 2nd platoon, C Company, 1-48th Infantry. This platoon was exchanged for C co 2nd plt, in the normal Army doctrine of combined arms. 1st plt has deployed to the left, 3rd plt to the right. (The company was finishing up transition training from the M60A3 tank to the new M1 Abrams tank at Grafenwoehr / Hohenfels training areas, where 1st platoon was the only platoon to have the chance to finish painting their tanks from the base color that they came from the factory in...) The Battalion mortar platoon has occupied its position in the rear are of the task force. With it's M577 Fire Direction Center. The objective at the back of the church. With a forward observer in the bell tower of the town church, his M113 waits at the base of the tower for when they need to displace... A plt of PIVAD air defense 'tracks' happens to be in the are, swapping 'pogey bait' and parts (Pogey bait is food the troops buy and bring to the field on their own nickel. Poptarts were always a good seller!) (The 4 Gatling gun equipped 'tracks behind the the 3 platoons) A pair of Cobra Tank killer tank hunters is also transiting the area when the hammer falls.... Some pics of what the Soviet Forces would see.... (wish the door mat that the fields are made from had settled down....) (I placed the camera on the table to give a 'mini's eye view') And here they are all packed up for shipment to Charlotte, NC to my friend.... Thanks to all those folks that followed along in the wip to give encouragement! TC Complete!
  3. So on the day the Haminister of trooth and I had lunch together in NYC, I had found a couple of cardboard pyramids that had been strapped to the tops of pallets full of something so that nothing else would be stacked on top... Over the past couple of nights, I have started to use some Blue foam Insulation to cover them to turn them into Frostgrave terrain pieces.... I attached the foam with spray adhesive, after making sure that the spray wouldn't eat the foam the way paint will... Here is a couple of pics of one of them... . My next step is to cut som 14" square MDF to attach them to for bases, then use spackle to fill in the gaps and blend the 'tabs' into the mdf board. I also plan on adding some Reaper gothic arches to them in the center of each side as 'entrances' , and then scribe lines in them to make the 'blocks of stone' that the pyramids are made from.... These will stand vertically at the outside edge, and have more foam put behind them to make the entrances.... Thanks for looking!
  4. So, tonight the base got tufts and snow effect, and aside from the need to cover the specks of snow on the black rim of the base, I am calling him done! He was lots of fun, and I am finding myself eager to paint more Xvarts! Thanks for following the WiP!

    PCKTLNT Plushie

So.... Last Decemeber while I was Xmas shopping for the pets, I ran across an AKC chew toy platypus... And, Being me, I knew that it was a DrowcedentTM in the making.... So my daughter Alsnia, knitted the scarf, we mad the hat from blue insulation foam and putty, and I did the monocle from a split ring for keys, a piece of jewelry chain, and some blister plastic. I sewed everything in place, (Be careful of the stitching!!!! as I am out of practice...) and hot glued the hat on... And it was delivered today, and I just got a pm from pcktlnt, so I can show him off now! We need to have a gathering of plushies at Reapercon this year....
  6. So I finished these up with some Secret Weapon Snow effect, and some Dullcote... Thanks for looking! WiP here
  7. So this pre cut, MDF outhouse came to me through the Box of Goodwill, Euro / UK edition.... Didn't feel much like hobbying last night, but when a couple folks joined me on the hangout, I thought I needed to do something, and my eyes fell on this.... And here is the lovely Astrid the Chronicler, much relieved..... I still don't have a painted Sir Forescale... Thanks for looking!

    Ambushed by "oooh Shiney"

So my February Reaper order came in today, as I mentioned in Aquistions, and the blister of Treasure tokens that I think will be good for Frostgrave... Treasure Horde I: 02313 I glued them to some 1" square bases, and gave them 2 thin coats of P3 Black Primer... I think that they look kind of neat like they are, kind of like what an old Black and White pic would look, you know, like before there was color film.....
  9. So I added some MSP Sparkling Snow to the 'sprinkles', and am calling this done! The Ivy is to stiff to really mess with, so I am leaving it alone.... WiP here Thanks to those that followed along and commented!
  10. So now that ReaperCon 2016 is over , my painting desk is clear of pretty much everything, as for the last few months, everything was directed towards that... So I am taking on a project for a good friend, who recently had his first child, and no longer has much time for anything.... We play a game called Flames of War, which is 15mm WWII, and the company that released it, Battlefront, has come out with a new variation called Team Yankee, The title comes from a novel by Harold Coyle about an American Tank team in Germany during World War III circa 1985... Your humble Drow is taking this on as a labor of love, because if the events in the book would have been true, He would have been one of those tank crewmen involved in the fighting..... So I am painting his force as C company, 1st Battalion, 33rd Armored Regiment, 3rd Armored Division.... I served in B Co and Headquarters cos while there, so that is what I will eventually do my troops as.... Anyway the kits are all plastic, just like the 1/35th scale models i used to build back when... The sprues: That builds 1 M1 Abrams Tank, depending on what version you wish to build, there are different parts.... He also shipped me the US paint set, and 2 cans of the base coat / primer for the US Forces... (Aren't the bullet bottles cute? they are only 12ml though.....) Battlefront originally had Vallejo doing their paints, and now I believe it is Army Painter... So I assembled the hull and turret of one last night to use as my test bed, spraying overall with the Yankee Green spray, and painting the track pads and rubber of the road wheels with Vallejo Black Grey... So tonight I am going to read up a bit on what BF thinks is appropriate colors, then mask the tracks and break out the airbrush for some 3 color camo, US Army style, 1985.... Thanks for looking!
  11. ***Oh, Curse You Haminnister of Truth!*** ***This is all your fault!*** So he posted this in the house Tabletop thread: And I, of course thought to myself, I think have that thing at home..... And of course, I do: So now it's time for some moar Frostgrave terrain, albeit a bit silly.....
  12. So here is my hangout mini of the month for March, the Reaper Goblin Shaman, 02876. I have removed his base, and managed to save the little spider sculpted there on... I have also since taking the pics, primed him... I am wondering what colors to use on him..... My dilemma is thus: I have 2 sets of the Ral Partha AD&D series Goblins painted up, (10 in all) I also have 16 Ral Partha Goblins from the Fantasy Collector series, Fantasy Armies... I also have some old Citadel Goblin Chariots and wolf riders... Now all the 'Parthas are painted up with Polly S Goblin Flesh paint, which is Tangerine... The Citadels are 'Green-skins'... These guys don't match the sculpts in either of those 2 lines, so would look kind of odd mixed in with them.... Sooooo..... I think that these guys are going to be painted BLUE, as the 1st ed AD&D Xvarts from Fiend Folio..... (and because it will drive Buglips up the wall....)
  13. So I have been working on this guy since the middle of April, and finished his base and final assembly tonight, So I give you The Hobgoblin Cheiftain & Death Chicken! I am taking many pictures to try and find flaws, as well as to solicit opinions as to the best way / angle / composition because Infamy miniatures is holding a painting contest for this figure, and I can only send them 6 pics. (PS if you have this mini, just entering the contest will net you a store voucher of 10 GBP! Entries by 30 June) I will likely post more pics when I get a better idea of what to do.... Thanks for looking, and critiquing! Special Thanks to those that followed along in the WiP, as well as the Hangouts for all the encouragement and suggestions! George
  14. So after digging out Homer Simpson, I remembered something else sitting around forever, that would likely be pretty cool for Frostgrave terrain.... Still needs more putty work, and of course, a base of some sort.... The inside says Copy right Burger King 1996... And the parts are numbered 2,4, & 5. I guess that there should have been 1 more triangular piece, and a square base, but good luck finding those now.... I think that I originally kept these for use in 40K, but...... George
  15. For Science! So on the train ride home from work the other evening, I had an idea for a vignette involving a pentacle or summoning circle... Now I have not gone back and checked any references, but I seem to remember that crushed gems were usually an integral ingredient in making these.. And I thought about the Secret Weapon Snow that I have been using on my Frostgrave guys, and I wondered if it could be used as crushed gems of different types... White Diamonds Blue Sapphires Green Emeralds Purple Amethysts Red Rubies etc... So last night I took some sculpy, incised some lines in it, made a pentacle, and baked it all... Then I primed it leaving this: Tonight, I took Scale 75 Alchemies and put them in the lines as the base for how I think this might work.... White Alchemy---W=white Emerald Alchemy---E=Emerald Cobalt Alchemy---C=Sapphire Garnet Alchemy---G=Ruby Amethyst Alchemy---A=Amethyst So the plan for next session is to mix the snow effect into the water effect, add some of the Alchemy paints, and then put them in the appropriate lines, as if they were crushed gems in a summoning circle of some type.... Hopefully this will work, and if not, just some odds and sod used up.... Anyone have any thoughts Ideas for this kind of thing? wonder if I should have used a white primer????? For Science!
  16. Knarthex sent me a few Ral Parha Pirates for my Lost World Project. Thx George! So I painted the first one up as Old Nedd from my stories. Here he is on a resin jungle base, ready to seek out gold. For those interested the WIP is here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69308-lost-world-project-xherman1964-paints-coldblooded-creatures-and-conquistadores/
  17. So, For those of you not in the Know, some of the Google Hangout regulars decided that it would be a fun thing to pic the same mini, and all paint it over the course of the month... The idea was that we could bounce ideas off each other, as opinions, and discuss things about the mini, all in real time... We all thought that this guy, that Pezler mentioned, and that Dilvish, Chaoswolf and I knew we could get at a store on paint day, would be a fun simple, easy thing to do in between other serious projects.... He certainly ended up proving us wrong about that! But, he also showed us 'proof of concept' in that doing this kind of thing is very helpful, as we found so many things that made him a more complex sculpt than first appears... So here is mine, Finished last night.... WiP Here I noticed whilst taking the pics that I didn't re-trim the black edge of the base after adding in the Secret Weapon snow.... That will be fixed after posting this.... Thanks for looking! Next months Hangout mini of the month is Reaper's Goblin Shaman, Metal 02876, Bones 77349
  18. Hello! Just a quik and easy Tip that everyone can adopt.... While I am painting / crafting /ASSEMBLING at my desk, I spread an old towel I got in the Army across my lap. It's about 24" x 36". Not only does it protect my clothes, but I use the edges to clean the outer tips of dropper bottle before re-capping, and I occasionally wipe my brushes on it... But when I am assembling fiddly little bits, and inevitably drop them, it is much easier to find them on the towel in my lap than in all of the clutter of stuff under my painting station! So try it! It may save you some frustration.... Knarthex
  19. Posted 12 February 2017 - 10:25 PM We have reached a consensus for the March Mini... (sort off) Going with Chaos wolf's theme of building a warband is the following: Goblin Leader & Shaman Ben Siens In Metal In Bones This would give us an apprentice spell caster for March, and a Barbarian / warrior / knight for April.... Price is pretty nice in metal, but I realize some folks may already have the bones version..... I will be placing my order on Friday when the Trista mini comes out in metal Need the new Domor mini as well....
  20. So considering the fact that I am the Instigator of this, it is only fitting that I post my work tonight.... (I almost forgot! Good thing the guys on the hangouts reminded me!) So he had the the mold line removed that runs up from his left foot, up his body and arm, across the wolf pelt's nosw, and the staff's skull, down the staff and his right hand fingers, and down the staff and it's accoutrements... Also on the inside of the wolf skin between his legs... The tab was cut off, and after drilling holes, pins were inserted in his legs. He was then primed with P3 White Primer from a rattle can with 3 light coats... and this is where he stands.... Not quite sure what I am going to do with him yet, I thought about doing the wolf skin in Technicolor, but I have already done that twice... I think that I am going to use the old Polly S Armor Dark Green for the mid tone on his skin though.... Maybe a Winter Wolf for the fur????? Hair will likely be the MSP Red Hair Triad.... And the item strapped to his back looks like a long twisted horn with feathers on it, Maybe a Rod / Staff / Wand / Fetish???? Thanks for looking! George Darn it! The mold line is still there on the skull on top of the staff!!!!!
  21. So this is a Cthulhu Wars base that Vegascat sent me, (one of two), that I was painting as a piece of scatter terrain... It was supposed to be something easy and quick to fiddle with while other things were drying.... But like so many of my projects, it kind of grew.... And a close up of the Ivy WiP here Thanks for looking!

Is everything okay down in Texas??? Wondering as the new releases for today didn't seem to make it to the store.... Concerned for PEOPLE here, so not a nag.... George

    Frostgrave Njorn thugs

So my warband is complete! The snow effect is still drying as I took these pics, but I don't expect it to change to much.... (I will need to go around the bases with Black paint to cover the water effect smears....) Thanks to all those that followed along in the WiP! Can't wait to play a game now...... WiP here

    Frostgrave Base size?

So I am getting ready to finish up my Wizard and Apprentice for Frostgrave, and I am wondering if there is a standard base size for the warband minis.... The pics in the main rulebook (the only book I have so far) doesn't mention anything as far as I can tell, and the Frostgrave minis pictured in the book look like they have their version of 'broccoli' bases, fitted to the mini... So before I mess this up, can anyone tell me what size I should use? Thinking 25 or 30mm would be best for the humans..... Thanks! George
