I started my Benedikt Project. It is going to be a present for my brother Benedikt. I assume this guy will take me a very along time. The mini sits on my desk for s long time but Progress is slow. Maybe Posting here will get me some Motivation. I will try a style with stark contrasts of light and dark like some of Frazettas works. The mini will get a special Base but that is a long was to go. So lets get started.

This is something of a surprise project that kind of snuck up on me. This last Christmas I gave the kid a large bag of plastic knights. Thinking it would make for a nice small gift that we could play with together it has proven to be one of their favorites. We end up busting them out nearly everyday. There's hope we'll have another tabletop player in the family. Playing with them so much however I couldn't help but wonder how they'd paint up. They may even be a very cheap way to field an army (albeit in a small scale). Trading the kid for a few of them I went to work cleaning them up. There were a few problems removing mold lines but nothing too bad. A few metal washers, some basing grit, and primer later this idea really came together. With all the prep work finished and as I was still working on another project I set these figures aside. Which brings us to tonight, having just finished my last project I leapt straight into this one. After breaking the figures into two groups I started painting. The first set really only needed a metallic and some leather to look pretty good. The second needed a bit more as they had cloth and shields, which meant heraldry. Nothing too fancy but more than enough to get me thinking about buying a second bag for myself. Tomorrow will be the deciding factor for me as I expect these will be finished after just one more session.

The subset called "knights" in the Bones 4 core set. These are NPC or henchmen-types. Wait a minuite! Do I really think that just because they have covered faces? Dang! I chose to use plain white capes, loincloths and so forth as a common denominator, which let them all have their own individual livery colours. B4Core #57 B4Core #58 B4Core #59 B4Core #60 B4Core #61 At least the unarmoured fencing instructor has more than a stick this time around when the white cloaks come. What do we say to the god of death? These also seem to be new sculpts for this KS. Come to think of it, this lot should be good proxies for Kings of War Vanguard Basileans. Knights subset Reaper Miniatures, Bones 4 KS 2017 Sculpted by ?? Bonesium PVC. 30mm round lipped bases should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future

This old Games Workshop mini is from about 1986. I think I had gotten him in a pack of minis because I have several others from the same line. I think I bought the pack mainly for this guy. He was my favorite, and I painted him solid black with silver trim. This time, I went with copper colored armor. A long time ago I wasn’t down with the big snake on his head so I chopped it off. I used paperclip and some contour putty to resculpt it here. The shield glued on to a round knob on his fist. Trying to figure out how to incorporate that unconcealable circle on the shield, I went with a simple eye motif. Please let me know regarding the flaming sword. I made the flame with hot glue. I think flames are brightest/hottest at the base and fade to black smoke at the top. I’m not sure how well this paint job imitates Fire, so comments on how to improve would be greatly appreciated.

Spent some time painting up all the Bones 3 Crusaders, plus the Core set minis from Bones 2 and 3 with the same Crusaders emblem on them. I based their colors on the Order of the White Lotus from Avatar: tLAB, and did a weapon swap on one because I felt like a bit more diversity in equipment.

Monument to the mighty heroes of something or other. Since they've got great big green statues they must have done terrible things to other people who probably talked funny. Bound to be Checkov's Knights in any dungeon situation. As it should be: Raw Umber, Robin's Egg Blue, Seafoam Green. The Tropicana lid plinth is a separate terrain item. They're just "army man" type Knights. Not sure what I'll use the other 30 in the bag for. I figured that larger, simpler figures might help my attempts to rehabilitate my fine motor skills.

After almost a year of work, I've finally completed this piece. 2 hours each on the adventurers, about an hour each on the terrain pieces, and close to 6 hours on the dragon itself. A lot of different colors used, so I'm not even going to try to mention them all. The terrain is mostly dry brushed, and washes. The dragon has no dry brushing at all though. Everything else is either layered or blended painting. Thanks for looking! Enjoy! (And yes, that is my YouTube channel in the background. LOL)

All I managed to do during the Thanksgiving weekend was a roundup of primed figures. It is a bit of a mixed bag: all totaled I found six Reaper figures and a motley assortment of others. A lot of them are GW but I am none too sure about the big brown mud [?] elemental. Not pictured above are one additional plastic archer and a female, metal, swashbuckling figure from Reaper (and that is Bloodmane the Gnoll hiding behind the Mud Man or whatever he is). If anybody knows either: a) what, who or who made the Mud Man? b) whether the Coven Witch (next to the dwarf) has a name? ...please post, I would love to know
