This thread is something ... different from other works I have been done. I guess it's not entirely in accordance to the board rules, so you may forgive me and accept my humble bundle of roses, choclate and other stuff that will easy your severely upset minds. When I am in the mood, I am doing so many speed builds up to the point of painting (means assembly, basing and priming), that making them all into different threads I would flood the forum with an unnecessary number of threads. So I will keep this limited to the building process of my different tabletop figures, armies and stuff and transfer the finished figures to their respective painting threads. Hello everyone, I’ve been asking myself if this is the right place, but as this project has been the one that kept me busy for most of my recent time and is very dear to me, I would like to present it to you. The whole idea to this was born during the time when I nearly stopped painting miniatures and doing wargaming. I had some pretty bad experiences with some guys and communities in Germany and my overall motivation to do some painting and building stuff was down to almost none. I even stopped writing which normally is my preferred method of relaxing. In short: A midlife miniature crisis. Read some more about the background over here: Gallia to Arms - original blog entry During that time a friend of mine bought the miniature kit of the Edelweiß tank that became available just then and later also purchased the kit of the Shamrock tank. That was the moment I decided to also make a small miniature project within the world of Valkyria Chronicles which I had known and liked since I first came to know the original game (or rather … its soundtrack). I had a lot of 20mm figures left and some 1/72 scale tanks, which I figured to be perfect for my plan to recreate the equipment and figures of the game in small scale. They don’t need much space, are easily convertible and they don’t cost as much as 28mm figures and vehicles. As some of my friends continued to do wargaming on WWII and I had so much stuff left, I soon decided to create a small force of Gallian troops for WWII skirmish games. Unfortunately it turned out that the game rules they were using rendered the Valkyria Chronicles scenario almost useless (due to balancing issues). So I continued creating models just for fun, using the whole anime scenario to set up the amusing story of a guy doing weird stuff. It somehow got out of hand … My little builds caught the attention of some guys organizing an annual local tabletop event called “Do or Dice” – and they asked me if I’d like to present some of my miniatures. I thought – wow – what an honor – but … it’s a tabletop event, not a miniature showcase event. So … hm. What to do? Right! Create an own scenario. Luckily I had acquired some left-over scale train terrain from my late uncle – and there were two grass mats measuring 100cm x 70cm. Perfect for a small skirmish game. Reason enough for me to tackle that challenge. Fortunately I’ve like 8 month or so left. Well then – Let’s Make … Gallia to Arms! Creating a scenario set in the Valkyria Chronicles universe requires certain elements. As I plan to use this thread as the main thread and create threads for the single elements of the game – Gallian Forces, Imperial Forces and Terrain – consider this as some kind of register for the different threads. This will be the Terrain build-up thread for the Valkyria Chronicles scenario I am creating here: Let’s Make … Gallia to Arms! A 20mm Valkyria Chronicles Scenario I wanted to create a double effect with the terrain. On one hand, my goal was to recreate the atmosphere that Valkyria Chronicles radiates, this special kind of game and anime combination that made the game's artstyle so unique. On the other hand I was aware that there is some difference between the view the player in VC has on the units and terrain and the view a player has on a board game. So I decided to mix the overall design with the art style of the original Blitzkrieg strategy game. Well then - gehen wir's an!

This will be the Gallian forces build-up thread for the Valkyria Chronicles scenario I am creating here: Let’s Make … Gallia to Arms! A 20mm Valkyria Chronicles Scenario I haven't started that totally ill-prepared - as I normally do - so here we start with the Gallian Forces. Unlike the Imperial Forces, the Gallian forces have never been designed to fulfill a greater combat role other than defend their homeland. As the Principality of Gallia is a rather small country, its vehicles and units rely on weaker armor for the sake of speed and agility. Still they can bring a suprisingly heavy amount of firepower to bear, which allows them to strike fast and retreat as soon as possible. Like vikings. Just a bit nicer. For the scenario setting, the Gallian Forces will consist of 1x Light Tank 6x Scouts 6x Shocktroopers 3x Lancers (Anti-Tank) 1x Mortarer (Anti-Personnel) 2x Engineers (Repair and Refill) 2x Snipers Well then - let's go The Gallian light tank: Gallian light tanks are rather old combat vehicles. Having been in service for almost 20 years, its armor can easily be penetrated by most of the available anti-tank weaponry in the game. Still - with its 75mm gun, a co-axial machine gun and a mortar, this tank is a vital support unit for its accompanying infantry. It also can combat light and medium Imperial tanks, but is severely outclassed by heavier imperial models. Starting with nothing much than the game design book and a few unbuilt tank kits, this work can be considered my first real "scratch" build, though not everything is completely scratch. Messy, but not dirty! Having checked the main parts I needed, I cannibalized the tank kits I had arround, using parts of a Panzer 38(t) and a Panzer III as main elements for the chassis and wheels. The front body was created using styrene plastic. To stabilize the whole construction, some poxy putty was used and put on the inner side of the vehicle. There are still some gaps to fill and mishaps to be corrected. But we are making progress! Time to contine with the turret. As one can see, the turret equals that of a Panzer III from WWII, but its main gun is rather positioned to the right side as it was on the Hetzer and the Panzer II. Well then - let's cut it into place. Let it dry for a moment and then continue next time

Hello everyone, So this is my first project ever posted in this forum - yay. I am so excited. Anyway - I have to admit I am not the best miniature painter - I am far away from that. I can't understand color theory, keep forgetting important steps and in those moments where I should be patient, I can't wait and ruin everything. Haha - nevertheless I try to become better and therefore I started this project. Some time ago I came up with the idea to create an all-female soviet infantry battalion for the Bolt Action wargame. If you want to know more, please check out this link: Strike Witches - All-Female Soviet Infantry Platoon (Warlord Games Forum) It soon became apparent to me that the use of infantry alone wouldn't make any sense, so I decided to get me some tanks and personnel to man them - tank riders and officers to command the vehicles. My army itself is painted in a merely tabletop standard, but as I am always flashed by what a good painter can achieve, I want to take the chance and try to enhance my skills by reading and watching tutorials on how to improve certain aspects of my painting and as the tanks will be standing out of the masses of infantry, I want their commanders to stand out, too. That said, I started painting the three ladies using i.e. Corporeas face painting tutorial, didn't like the outcome, stripped them (*chuckles*) of all the paint, started painting again, ruined the job once more, stripped them again, painted once more, liked the face, ruined the leather, stripped them again and so on - I guess a plastic kit would be molten by now. After a longer time without having the ability to paint, I returned to the painting table just to figure out I had forgotten almost everybit of knowledge I aquired regarding painting. So I went back here, but unfortunately Corporeas Tutorial was not "illustrated" anymore, thanks to photobucket. So I decided to join the forum to inspire myself how to paint and to make some steps forward in painting miniatures. Let's go. The original figure I got looked like this: Due to some ... breast issues in the wargaming forum I was present at that time ("Well, we like to play armies who in reality commited mass murder, but - oh my good - did you attach boobs to this figure?! How dare you?!" and so on) I decided to fuel the fire - and I really like the outcome. It reminds me a bit of anime figures. Haha. She looked like this: But as I wrote, I then totally screwed up the paintjob like a complete idiot and now I am back to square one. Well then ... here we go again. I had to correct some scratches in the Greenstuff, so that should be dry by tomorrow, then I'll base coat her and will start painting. Slowly and steady. One step after the other - and we will see where this ends. See you next time!

Long long time a go, a Sister painted some figures. You can check it out here ->Let's make a present ... Selfmade 3d Print "Friends"<- Well - I had to give them away before being able to make some pictures. Now that Christmas is over and more time available, my friend took the time to take some pictures of the figures. I was presented a big thanks and a present for Christmas from his family. Glad I made them happy (despite the difficulties I had).

Hello everyone, So this is something special. Not only that 2 days ago I thought I wouldn't be able to paint over the rest of the year, but this is also some kind of a very personal present. But from the beginning - 2 days ago I got a short text message from my friend (you know the one I am always barbecuing with). He asked me if I was at home and if we could meet. I said yes. A few minutes later a big rescue vehicle appeared in our road, so I was a bit worried, then remembered ... well, he in fact is paramedic, so I took it lightly, while some people on the road were looking for something that had happened and so on ... you know that story. Long story short: The friend of his mum is a big fan of LGB (Lemann Groß Bahn model scale train in 1/43 scale or so) and he always wanted to have a personalized miniature for his displays. Partnering with a fellow scale train fan, they had found someone who made a 3d print sculpt of them. Unfortunately those miniatures didn't come in color so my friend took them and some reference photos and asked me if I could ... do the magic of colours on the figures and return them in time for the birthday of his mums friend, which is shortly before my travel to Japan in 2 weeks. I didn't know if that would be possible, but then I got a call informing me that I had been selected for readiness duty overnight before my last shift week, which means that I would sit here and do nothing for 3 days. Hell yeah - why not. Gimme dat! So I took the figures and said yes. I think this is an awesome, very personal present and knowing that I was asked to make some black figures into coloured ones makes me happy. I contribut to someones birthday present. Haha. I did that before, but not on such delicate figures. No pressure, Sis. No pressure. Well then - Lets go: The figures arrived like this: After I cleaned them using soap water and then water, I used my trusty Mr. Primer to get a base coat on them. That needs to dry now. More updates later. I think if I don't loose my patience and willingness to do everything in one run, I should be done on wednesday or thursday. We will see!

Hello everyone, I really didn't think I would do so much for the hobby these days, but suprisingly I am making good progress on all fronts. Writing a more or less funny story-like commentary for @Cyradis Max Decker WIP and Showoff and having been asked by @Erifnogard about the use of my Adeptus Sororitas and Inquisitor Grayfax, I was motived to continue some army background for my Fantasy/Magical/1940s Pulp/Steampunk/Dieselpunk/Idunnowhat/ manslaughtering killer machine doll robot knight (and so forth and so on) army I am currently working on (no WIP here as of yet - but a seek for advice on the colours - look ->here<-). So during today, while cutting plastic, metal and my fingers, I recorded some background ideas and wrote them down to make an overall background for the main character and how this fraction was formed. And then I decided to translate it and present it here to hear your thoughts on it. Please keep in mind - I was translating this from German. So my spelling and use of words my not be all too apropriate. I am sorry for that as well as for all mistakes. I guess I some day will enlarge it into a full grown background story, but for now ... just a little fairy tale of two sisters. // Once upon a time there were two sisters who awoke inside a dark tower. Without any memory of their origin or who they were, they wandered about the gloomy floors, lost in the door- and windowless interior of their prison. But strangely, they felt nothing. They never felt anything. Following an eternity of them being all alone, a wizard appeared, dressed in white robes, who freed them from their misery and named them Devola and Popola. He took them with him to his castle high in the mountains, where they, for the first time, experienced the feeling of looking through a window and enjoying the sun, roamed the nature and saw more then they ever did before. They spent much time at the wizard’s castle, laughing and living through their days. Two flowers, plucked from the wizard’s garden and put in each other’s hair, became the symbol of their bond. But as the castle was lying high above the surroundings, the sisters were able to see their former prison day by day, as well as the people entering and leaving it. They were surprised. They had never seen or heard someone inside the tower. The wizard had forbidden them to approach the tower and the evil people living inside it, but finally curiosity overwhelmed them. One night, they slunk off the castle and went to the tower. It took them some time until they found its entry, but then they walked inside and into wonderland. Strange metal machines, smoking and steaming, sighted, hissed and whizzed. Iron humans, bound and chained to the walls, were just standing there, seemingly sleeping and soulless, while magicians and wizards walked between them. Gigantic pots hovered above the scenery, poured hellish hot lava into earth holes, unleashing new iron men into the human made cave. The sisters became panic-stricken, but as they turned to flee the horrible sight, they were spotted and taken into custody. They were brought before the leader of the strange facility, who – to their horror – turned out to be the wizard who had helped them escape their prison and who they trusted so much. He showed disappointment in them ignoring his warnings, but it was Popola who discovered the truth behind his words. He had lied to them, knowing all about them from the beginning on. The sister told the wizard that they would leave when he didn’t tell them what he knew. The evil wizard replied by speaking a magical word, sending Popola to the ground, lifeless. Devola fell on her knees, trying to wake her sister, but no matter what she did, her sister didn’t move. When she begged the wizard to revive Popola, he revealed to her that her sister would never live. And so won’t she. They were mere dolls, made of iron and steel, constructed solely for the purpose of being perfect servants and warriors. Brought to life by magically invoked echoes of long lost souls caught in energetic cages and buried deep inside their hearts, it was only a combination of engineering and spirituality that allowed them to be more than soulless statues. But that moment Popolas body was drained of all her energy, her soul escaped into eternity and everything she ever was disappeared, too. The wizard felt no loss. He had seen enough metal creatures rise and fall, so he didn’t mind ending the life of one of his creations. He could easily make another one. The remaining sister became very furious and slew the wizard – as well as all his henchmen. Then she set off, thirsting for revenge and to find out if she could awake her lifeless sister whatsoever. The now masterless machine life forms followed her.

Hello everyone, I could use an advice or more some thoughts on something I am working on. I've once again dived headlong right into a new project for someone else. The topic is a pulp style game that is set in an alternate time of the 40s and incorporates some kind of superold cults and stuff. Anyway - I've been task to create a faction consisting of an android species that was originally created by one of the fractions as some kind of statues and then came to life by being merged with a soul. But as metal is a obviously a really unfitting material to merge with souls, those machine lifeforms became something like lost souls. Not they are out for revenge and fight the other factions. I am currently thinking about the colour scheme. As for the bodies, I thought about using sisters of silence from the warhammer universe and equip them with swords, MG 42 and FG 42 light machine guns to make them fit into the whole scenario. As for the faces I wanted to use a more light colour and white hair. I mean - why should androids have got different hair colours? I'd like to have them have red glowing eyes. Like this: And I then I thought of using the YoRHa heavy armor of the NieR Automata franchise as color reference. This is a guild wars 2 mod that gets as close as possible. more picture here: GW Nier Automata Style Armor But now I thought ... maybe thats a bit too dark. I mean - rather dark weapons, dark clothes, dark armor, only a bit of light color on the head and the hair. I am not sure if I'd consider that fitting. I'd like to hear your opinions on that topic.

Well then, Let's go on. As written in my WIP thread ->Check Here<-, the first few Gallian infantry units for my Valkyria Chronicles scenario ->Check Here<- are done. That means: First few units are ready to be shown. As I wrote, those are units I made over a time frame of almost 4 years now, so I guess a constant quality improvement is clearly visible. Still - even if they are not perfect to the last, every of these figures is quite dear to me. As you can see, on the first two I tried to apply eyes, but it looks weird, so I am currently thinking of repainting their faces. Some details: And just to give an idea of the scale - here's Reaper's Troll Slayer Sophie for comparison: Next units are already on their way.

When I was getting the equipment to photograph my Valkyria Chronicles Figures, I stumbled upon those figures which have been standing on my miniatures shelf for quite some time. I painted them almost a year ago, when I by chance got a hold on some Infinity miniatures. I didn't know much about those absolutely detailed figures. I had mostly done heroic style miniatures and 20mm stuff, so this was quite a new thing for me. I didn't own an airbrush by that time and I never had used paint diluted enough to not cover up any details. But I wanted to paint them, as they really looked awesome. So I tried my best, spend hours and hours of watching tutorials on how to paint such miniatures, which mostly included airbrush priming and stuff. But as I couldn't get hold one one, I had to try in my own way. And it seemed that the goddess of luck smiled at me. I had never before felt such a rush of happiness when I painted miniatures and the way of diluting paint back then is the one I still use. I was especially proud of the faces and the skin, which to this day I never managed to get so smoothly done again. The bases themselves were made using putty, a sponge and a knife. And then there is a story about the guy in the center. I originally had intend to copy Roy Revant from the Solty Rei anime series, who looks like this ... Well, I thought I had done a pretty good job, I told my mum about it and the next time I was home again I showed the figures to her. She started to laugh uncontrollably and then cried a bit. I didn't get it in the first place. But then, she showed an old picture from one of her albums, a picture taken somewhen during the early seventies at a German Army mobile anti-aircraft radar station. It was that moment I actually realized that I hadn't recreated the face of Roy Revant, but that of my late father when he was young. With the same look and smile. After that we laughed for some time before I decided I would never repaint that miniature until the end of my life. I later bought the same figures to recreate them with the knowledge I've got nowadays, but still - I guess those will forever have their special place on my miniatures shelf.

So - my next small project - I cannot keep with just one ... errrr. After having a small but nice talk with @SGHawkins09 and being sent home by the doc to cure a sickness I recently picked up, I had to decide what to do next. As all those wonderful and enthusiatic responses to my previous projects (I mean it - I never had so much response in such a short time) made it near to impossible to just sign off from the forums and disappear into the wilderness, I agreed to take on a different plan. I just grabbed into my miniature box and took some figures to paint them and get them done. And then it struck me: I am at the Reaper Forums yet I missed to paint a Reaper miniature. So I picked out ... errr - let me see ... Troll Slayer Sophie! Yay! - hey! Hooooraaay! Who the heck is Troll Slayer Sophie and when did I buy her? It seems I already started to paint her, but then decided otherwise, stripped *chuckles* her and put her away. Hm. Good point to start her all over again. As I chose her to be the figure I wanted to paint next I had to think about the color scheme I wanted to use. Well. I had no idea. I never really cared about fantasy style, so it never meant anything to me. The things I know about are modern or sci fi. I played a lot of Warhammer40k back in the days. I even wrote fanfiction stories which included the Imperial Guard and the Sisters of Battle ... ... Sisters of Battle ... hm. that could make a great colour scheme. Works well with the flesh tones and still contrasts it. And as Sophie is a demon, the demon/witch hunter theme fits her rather perfectly. I'll take it! Well then - primed her and started painting. But I am not sure - do I want to give her skin the grim dark appearance of an Adepta or a more Succubi-like appearance like ... this one: Succubus Suggestions?

Hello again. Some time ago, during a game of Bolt Action, one of my friends told us about a campaign he was planning, focused on a fantasy setting using the rules of Frostgrave. As he and some other friends were working on a SciFi setting simultaneously, I thought of the possibility of creating an army that fits both settings – Fantasy and Sci Fi. But what kind of figures would be able to fit into my setting? Looking around, I got aware of the Blood Vestals by Raging Heroes. They seem to be perfect for my army and so I acquired a group of them and also got me some bases with ruins – currently I don’t have got the time to make them all by myself. There is only one problem – they are partially clothed … RATED N for NUDITY RATED N for NUDITY II RATED N for NUDITY III So … though a young woman in all her natural beauty might be quite a sight for sore eyes, I figured them to be a bit unfit for my idea. I mean - we are talking about Frostgrave. Frost. Cold. Quite Cold. Who would risk to get a cold by running around naturally dressed? So – best way for me to work with them might be to unnude them. I looked around a bit further, but couldn't figure a way to make the figures look like I wanted them to look like. To be honest - I don't even have an idea what I want to do. Bravo, Monsieur. You're quite something. Then by chance, I stumbled over the at concepts of NieR: Automata, which is a sequel to the critically acclaimed game NieR and includes some pretty artwork and figures. I already know the game, especially for the "AB" Diskussion regarding the clothing of main character 2b, but still never really thought about the design. Hm. Not bad. I somehow like the lolita concept. But it is quite modern, so there should be a change in design to make it more fantasyesque. Also having been a fan of the Valkyria Chronicles franchise since I came to know it (some 6 years ago or so), I figured that the clothes of Selvaria and Aliasse from the franchise would make a good addition. Sexy Lolita clothes, white and blue-white hair, red eyes and dark grey and golden colors? I am currently thinking about how to bring all those concepts together – but I am sure that the outcome will be great :-D Haha. If anyone has an idea on how to put all that stuff together, I'd be thankful :-D For the skin I took a picture from the internet, which I really liked: Quite a thought. I checked my bits box and found a fantasy figure I will use as the central figure for my army – the Crimson Empress or Witch or whatever. She will be the figure on which I test how the colors work together. Looking forward to seeing her finished … Well then - Let's start and see where this ends.

Seriously people - I have no idea. Who was this lady again? While Sophie was drying I started to paint her and actually made pretty good progress so far. Tried to get back to my former painting style. Not entirely happy, but happy enough to keep going. If anyone knows what the name of this model is - tell me. I'd be grateful enough to tell her that you knew what I didn't.

Hello everyone, New (or rather ... old) Show Off. Some time ago I read about Roza Shanina, a Soviet-Russian sniper who fought during WWII on the Russian front. So ... I kind of got bewitched by her. So I when Stoessis Heroes (small company's range of more or less famous heroes of WWII) started to produce a miniature inspired by Liudmyla Mykhailivna Pavlychenko, I had to get it, convert it and paint it. The picture that inspired me aaaaaand .... the outcome of my work.

While I was working on the combat diver diorama - Please check here: -> Let's make a present! Combat divers on the beach<- my boss approached me with another present. Another colleague would leave us soon, so I had to prepare a third present. Errr. Okay. I am doing it because I can and because it is fun. Well then - Let's go. I knew this: Our colleague was playing football from time to time. Wow. Well I guess that's what it's like when you keep all your information to yourself. I guess I should do that more often. In conclusion - I had no idea what to do. So my boss thought of the following: A giant owl that carries an anchor. I checked the internet for a fitting miniature and by accident found a human coach figure for Guildball tabletop. It didn't look exactly like him, but the hair was georgous. So I bought it. Then I stumbled upon a giant owl and bought it, too. Now I had both figures and started to make some plans. But I didn't like it. Way too high, way too small, height difference too big. No. That's not what I wanted to create. I 've gotta think of something else. Actually, that's quite demotivating ...

When my first present - please check here ->Let's present a ... present! Owl Mage<- was received pretty well by our female colleage, my boss asked me to do more. This time the task was to make a present for another colleague who left us. As he was in the military and also is a passionate diver, I thought of something military. What would be a better fit than German combat divers (Kampfschwimmer)? Luckily I found a bunch of German frogmen miniatures and ordered them immediately. When I told my boss what I had in mind, she asked me to include the following elements: 1st: Frogmen 2nd: An owl (of course) 3rd: an exit 4th: a sign that links the colleague to our work. Everything else was free for me to develop. As Frogmen often use beaches to infiltrate or exfiltrate an area, the overall idea was to create a beach setting. So I went down to the beach, spent some hours there swimming, enjoying the sun and making sketches, until I finally had an idea what I wanted the diorama to be like. The owl should be sitting on a sign that warned of mines - but instead of a mines warning there should be an inside joke written on the board we often did at work. The exit should be between two dunes and be marked by another sign. And the Kampfschwimmer unit should be astonished by what they witnessed. So I started painting the combat divers. After that I assembled the owl, used plastic styrene to cut out two signs, assembled them an started painting. Still I had one problem - the showcase I ordered ... *chuckles* didn't show up. That sounds funny at the moment but should be a problem later on. And as I was doing a second diorama at the same time, the pressure increased ... *Insert creepy music here*
