This is an old Mage Knight figure that I decided to repaint. Originally, she was an 'Amazon Blademistress'. With her new paintjob, she'll be serving as a pirate aboard Sophie's Revenge. I hope you like her.

Hello all! It's been a little bit since I posted anything. With the weather getting colder, I felt inspired to share some old winter-themed minis I painted up nearly two years ago when I first started painting. Though the paintjobs aren't anything to write home about, they're still interesting models, and I like looking back on where I started. Also, I'm slowly posting all my old bones minis so it was bound to happen sooner or later. More photos and thoughts below the spoiler: It's always fun looking back on old paintjobs and seeing how far you've come. Though it's also intimidating to share some of these rougher early works with the rest of you. I hope you found some entertainment looking back on these with me. I'm looking forward to getting the new Yeti set in Bones 5 and seeing how they stand up to these classics. Feel free to share some of your favorite early pieces! For more recent winter-themed minis, check out my Frostrun Project Here.

This is an old Mage Knight figure that I slightly converted and repainted. He was holding a comically undersized flail in his left hand, so I cut it off and replaced it with a halberd from an old GW Chaos Warrior I had in my bits box. After that, it was just a matter of repainting him for use on the tabletop. He'll make an interesting BBEG in some game I haven't created yet. Thanks for looking.

This is a 20 man (well, 17 with a unit filler) unit of skeletons that I'm working on for possible use in Kings of War. It's composed of figures by a lot of different manufacturers including Reaper, Ral Partha, GW, Grenadier, Mage Knight, and WOTC. I'm using all the different makers and scales to try and make an interesting looking unit composed of more than just human remains. I am an equal opportunity, non racially biased necromancer, after all. This will be kind of a slow burn project; I'm not in any major rush to finish these for a game any time soon. This will be something to work on in between other projects. There will be conversions, and different paint jobs for the skellies; again in an effort to make a more interesting looking group. Here's the unit all together: What would be more interesting; making individual show off threads as I finish 2 or 3 figures, or just putting the finished figures in here and then doing a show off for the whole unit once it's complete?

I forget exactly what this figure is called, but it's another old Mage Knight figure that I have repainted. I think it would work well as a (small) evil treant. I'd have to go through the Monster Manual, but I'm sure that there are other plant monsters this would work as, too. Tabletop paint job as usual. ETA---Forgot to mention, this is part of my Morihalda challenge (do art every day in December).

Repainted Mage Knight Magma Guardian (fire elemental)
Chaoswolf posted a topic in Show Off: Painting
This is an old mage knight figure I stripped (yes, it is possible. Not easy, but possible. It's also not always worth the time and energy involved) and then repainted. Painted to table top. Let me know what you think. Better view of the base. Yes, it's got eyes, and they're painted!- 4 replies

Another old Mage Knight orc figure that I converted a while ago (WIP here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/60174-mage-knight-orcs-conversionrepaint/?hl=%2Bmage+%2Bknight+%2Borcs) and finally finished up painting during the paint binge last weekend. Nothing special, just a tabletop paint job; he'll get used along with his buddies in a Song of Blades and Heroes warband, as well as for D&D.

This is a speed painted repaint of an old Mage knight figure; I think it was the 'feral bloodsucker'. It looked like a werebat to me, so that's what he became. I did the figure in perhaps an hour and a half (not including basing, lotta glue and different materials there). I just painted right over the original paint job (there wasn't really much there to begin with). I did this guy while I was waiting for some green stuff to dry on a different project. Please let me know what you think.

I started a thread over in the custom terrain and conversions forum to cover some of my aquatic themed monsters and terrain ( including boats and ships). I also wanted to share my other WIP for some of the figures I am working with or finished. I did most of these conversions for a game called Heroscape over at Heroscapers.com. I like going back to something I did a few years ago and retouch it up, or repaint it or do some additional details. Anything suggestions are always welcomed. I have several Mage Knight minis I'd gotten in a bulk order on ebay and I've rebased several and use them as NPC's in Pathfinder games. However, they don't quite fill all the roles I need in GMing games. I don't really have any nobles. What I did have, was 2 of the witch-type mini (don't remember what the real name of the figure was). Therefore, I left one as the witch/sorceress woman and turned the other into a noblewoman. It required cutting off the shoulder pieces, the broom/staff thing, and the head dress. Then, I used Green Stuff to mold hair with a braid wreathing the head, sleeves that were open at the shoulders, and a fan. The first pictures are the original and conversion side by side. The last picture is my converted noblewoman by herself as my phone's camera really didn't like having the very dark and very light figures side by side, so it didn't give good detail for the pair of them. Hope you enjoy it! Compliments, comments, and critiques are always welcome :=)

I like to kitbash figures. That's one of the reasons I love Bones; they're easy to cut up and customize. And for that reason, I still sometimes buy collectible plastic figures, when they clearance out; three or four bucks each for a blind packed figure, or fifteen for five blind packed in a box, is too rich for my blood these days. Recently, this local joint clearanced out their HeroClix single packs from Thor: The Dark World and The Hobbit: Battle Of Five Armies. And I got to thinkin' "What are the odds that some of these figures might be suitable for Frostgrave or something?" And for fifteen bucks, I bought all they had left. Y'know what? It's disturbing when you buy ten packs of a product marked THOR, and not one of them contains Thor. Friend of mine had a similar experience, buying Man Of Steel single packs at Target. Out of ten, he wound up with two General Zods and no Supermen. Today, I ran across a clearanced dispenser of LOTR: Return Of The King single figure packs, at a very attractive price. Again, I thought: "What are the odds that I'll find some useful bits for fantasy gaming?" And I bought the whole box. It was nearly full. And out of 24 packs, we get one Gandalf, one Aragorn, two Pippins, one Sam, one Faramir, and a whole buncha no name orcs and otherwise that no one cares about. I did not feel cheated; the price was good enough that it was all spare parts to me. But I definitely thought "If that had been full price, that'd be over a hundred bucks for a large booster with two rares, a few uncommons, and a whole lotta dreck*." It definitely did not tempt me to go back into collectible miniatures games... *Oh, and one junk rare. Denethor. Denethor, of all people. Whose idea was it to stick DENETHOR in there? A character who, in both movie and book, does ZERO aside from sit in a chair, rant and rave, diss his son, go insane, and attempt suicide. And for some reason, the HeroClix people thought he needed a figure?

This is an old mage knight figure; it's an 'Amazon Mancatcher'. I've got a couple more copies of this one that will all be converted eventually. She's armed with an absolutely ridiculous weapon; I cut that off and re-armed her with a trident from the bits box; I figured that with the net in her other hand, she'd make an interesting gladiator. The base is supposed to be sand, does it look alright? Table top paint job; let me know what you think, please.

I got this figure as part of a 'grab bag'; she was missing her base and her right hand. I did a pretty hamfisted attempt at sculpting her a new hand; to hide the worst of it, I gave her a hand crossbow from the bits box. Looking at the finished figure, I now realized that I should have cut the stock off of her crossbow. Oh well, live and learn; i think it looks alright as is. Standard table top paint job. Tell me what you think. I need to work on eyes a lot more.

I originally posted the WIP over here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/60174-mage-knight-orcs-conversionrepaint/?hl=%2Bmage+%2Bknight+%2Borcs Two of them are still being worked on, but I finally finished this guy off.

Another old Mage Knight figure that I have repainted. I forget what it's supposed to be, but I think it'll work well for Wood Golem, Young Treant, or generic woodland/nature spirit. Thanks for looking.
