It was a very busy summer (and into the fall), so I didn't get a lot of painting done. But here are the Bones Black Hell Hounds (#44100). Or the Hell's Frozen Over Hounds as I've painted them. Here is the Reaper Dungeon Dweller Unicorn (#07047). He was a test run of Turbo Dork's Mother Lode paint. It has a mother of pearl sheen in person, but it is very hard to capture in a picture. And the Bones Classic Silverhorn Unicorn, #77029. He was an experiment with Reaper Black Pearl paint. And finally, Ian the Ivy Crown Mage. Warlord #14544.

Here is the Arcane Circle, Reaper Bones #77988. I used white ink with sorcerous mist and glacial mist on the runes and the carved inner circle. I don't think it's a good idea to cast a spell when there are cracks in the circle, though.

I finished Churrusina. I am mostly happy with her. Not 100% on the spell effect. I painted and repainted it and decided this was the best try so stopped. I have included the purple smoke photo I used for inspiration, I just couldn't quite get there! Anyway, I think she looks like she could be an interesting NPC for my players to "meet"! C&C welcome. Thanks for looking! Pretty purple smoke.

This is Istariel from Judgement. I am pretty happy with how she turned out. I used the Olive Skin triad on her. I just bought them at Cancon and wanted to test them out. Really like them so will be ordering some of the other skin triads soon. I used several other Reaper paints including Nightshade Purple (my favorite!), and the clears = red, yellow, and purple. She is the first 54 mm that I have painted. I figured with her being larger, her eyes would be bigger. Nope! With so much fire and the way that it wraps around her, it was hard to do realistic highlights and shadows. I instead decided to highlight and shade her "normally" with some respect to the fire as a light source but not a set in stone guideline. I then did OSL on her using the colors of which part of the flame I thought would be hitting particular areas. My favorite parts are her right side, her underlit underboobs, and the back of her hair. She has a lean. I have reglued her twice and she still leans. I am sure it is user error but damned if I can get her to stand straight! Thanks for looking. C&C always welcome.

Experimenting with some new transparent paints I got to produce a lighting effect, think it turned out pretty well. I'm probably going to have to go over it to get the base colors and I'm not sure I'll be able to make it look this good again, so thought I should get a couple photos.

I’ve been running D&D games for 30 plus years and occasionally someone will ask to play a character with psionic abilities. I usually resist allowing this; I don’t want peanut butter in my chocolate. I view psionics as a science fiction component rather than fantasy, the theory that science fiction is a form of fantasy not withstanding. I generally prefer my fantasy to focus on magic and medieval European settings, and leave other historical cultures, aliens or technology out. Over the years I’ve mellowed and come to accept that players just want to enjoy the fantasy of taking on a role they do not (or cannot) partake of in real life. So I’ve come to accept ninja, psion or steam punk peanut butter in my European medieval fantasy chocolate. A bit more than fifteen years ago I ran a D&D 3e game set in the Diablo 2 video game world of Sanctuary, using setting and adventure supplements published by Wizards of the Coast. Included in the setting book were rules for the Diablo 2 character classes. I allowed a mix of D&D and D2 characters, but required the player to chose either the D&D spell system or the D2 spell point system, choosing spells from only from the appropriate list. One of the players chose the D2 Necromancer and used the Diablo 2 spell list and spell point system. This player was a bit of a power gamer and focused on how to maximize the spell point pool, basically never running out of spell points. The character was able to always contribute in a meaningful was to every encounter. I’ve never been a fan of the 15-minute adventure day, so I usually enforce travel time and backtracking, with the commiserate chance for creatures rising the alarm, ambuscades or random encounters. The spell point pool this character had helped this character be less of an liability in these circumstances, but for large or long fights resource management was still important. I was struck by how the spell point system and the psionic power point system were the same, just using different wrappers (terminology). After the end of that campaign we were looking for a new setting, and the magazines Dragon, Dungeon and Polyhedron did a cross over adventure called “Incursion!”, featuring Githyanki invaders. It was a precursor to the modern Adventure Paths, and it included psionics. After having run a spell point system in the D2 campaign I was more open to psionics and bought the psionics handbook. Some of players had their characters take levels in psionic classes, and it worked out fine for most. The same player that played the necromancer wanted to play a Psion, and was keen on creating new powers. His approach was with psionics anything that one could think of could be accomplished with the mind, as opposed to magic which was limited by codified spells, rules and tradition, and relied on an outside source of power. My approach was that both systems use intellect or force of personality to access and control another source of power; the mind is not powerful enough to affect the world directly. We clashed a bit as I was using existing powers to set the power level and point cost of new powers and he wanted to create custom powers with specific effects, so limited in application that he felt the level and point cost should be lower. He was of the opinion that psionics should not be limited, essentially viewing psionics as superior to magic in every way. My concern was that if psionics were always the “better choice”, why would anyone ever play a spell-caster? Around the time we were finishing that campaign, D&D 4e came out and we switched over to that system. I won’t go into my opinion of 4th edition here other than to say I think it is a fine game system, just not D&D. The new daily, encounter and at-will power system precluded spell or power points and I gradually returned to my dim view of psionics. I’m of the general opinion that there is no need for competing power systems in the same game, such as spell points as opposed to spell slots, or psionics to magic. It is difficult if not impossible to balance to power systems across 20 plus character levels. Melee combat and magic systems are difficult enough, but adding another system will only make it even more difficult. The Vancian spell system has serious flaws, but its history and well established structure provides built in limitations and guidelines on creating new spells. That same structure is not unjustifiably viewed as restrictive by some, but inserting another, subjectively “better” system will imbalance the overall game even more. If and when psionics are added to 5e, I hope they reconsider power points and stick with a Vancian system. Or rewrite magic with spell points. Keep the peanut butter and chocolate separate. Sorry fans of Reeeses Peanut Butter Cups.

For your consideration: Reaper Bones miniature Female Anti-Paladin. It wasn't until I started on my idea for the shield that I realized that *it* was the Main Character. Not exactly a daemon-possessed sword, but a symbiotic relationship none-the-less. Extravagant tone with bright, decadent colors. She-Hulk for the hair. Massive Voodoo for the dots. (More dots!) My cat Zen for the eyes. (He's a Tom.) Lots of non-textured areas to tell a story. Great player character or reoccurring NPC. A lesson of extreme - in Color and form. The armor was protective but the clothing was tattered like a torn mesh bodysuit. Heavy straps encircled limbs and the armored boots formed like hooves. Toothy maw adornment on the armor hints at hunger. A very introspective Pin-Up. I hope you enjoy. :)

Hay there haven't posted in a wile, my store is under renovation so I haven't been able to work on stuff lately. I was working on a half orc anti paladin but unfortunately I guess I didn't mix the epoxy correctly when I was gluing the figure together and half way threw painting her she fell apart. So instead I was able to finish this first and wanted to share it. This is the 60059 Harrower, in my mind she is standing at the edge of a cliff channeling magic getting ready to attack what ever is below her. I wanted to try something different with the magic effect so I tried we blending colored washes into different metallic colors and I like the result I got, I then decided to go with a some what anime style theme to the rest of the figures paint scheme. I have included both 2 work in progress photos as well as 2 taken after final assembly. I have no idea why the two final assembly photos are so dark, but the color in the work in progress is much closer to what it actually looks like in person. As always feed back is welcome, please keep in mind I don't normally paint small detail like what I did on the cards and I am working to improve my line size and consistency. As always I post stuff like this and more on my FB page if you would like to follow it I would greatly appreciate it. www.facebook.com/TabletopGlory

Hopefully quick question on painting non-traditional colored fire. Basically wanting to make sure I am on the right track here. I am currently painting up the kobold sorceror (the dude on the right) and have the idea of making the fireball in his hand blue (as if he is producing an electrical damage effect). In part, this is to create some additional color since he already has the torch on the left (which I am aiming for a more traditional orange-red flame effect). So the idea I had was to start by painting the whole flame white, then start layering with progressively darker shades of blue. Starting with a relatively light blue and working up to a darker blue by the tips (where it would be cooler). Does this sound about right? As for colors, my blues are somewhat limited still but for the first layer I was thinking either a Heather Blue, or the Arcane Blue by P3. The latter has a bit more green to it, but it brighter. Thoughts? As always, thanks in advance for any help! Edit to add: Forgot the picture! :P

Couple more demons for my Wrath of the Righteous campaign. This time its a succubus and the innocent new girl in town, Mary Lith. Bases are chaos bases from a recent CMON kickstarter. The marilith is based on a coral snake pattern and the succubus is based on a naked chick. Thanks! Thanks to carnacki for filling me in on the nudity policy which i should have read. The Following links contain nudity (though I dont know why a shirtless man is less offensive than a shirtless woman) Succubus http://i61.tinypic.com/142zdoh.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/okd8vo.jpg http://tinypic.com/m/j5d0df/4 Marilith http://tinypic.com/m/j5d0dg/4 http://tinypic.com/m/j5d0di/4 http://tinypic.com/m/j5d0dk/4

In our town one of the teaches loves games and holds a small weekend convention. While there I picked up some new pulp figures. How can you go wrong buying extra cultists and Nazis? Being a big fan of the Hellboy movie I had to make the following: Didn't notice how badly his feet are floating until I got a low angle shot. Oh well, nobody will be looking at that in game ;) I hope...

Here is another piece that I made for the GenCon sculpture contest. This one is out of green stuff. I did not go the classic pointed hat route instead I used a action pose, I had thought about making the hat on the ground next to him and a sword on the back of the belt but decided that those would might clutter up the figure. I put in a "walk around view" and have been working hard to keep under the posting size. Let me know what you think, and thank you for taking time to look.

Here is a look at some of my work. I entered this into the GenCon sculpture contest last year. It is one of my characters for D&D 4E, a Genasi Stormborn, Sorcerer. I have 3 views of him, let me know what you think. I used Kneadite for this one, home made twisted wire armature, and guitar string for the staves. He is "flying" supported buy a wind cloud under his one foot.
