  1. Not nearly as exciting as many of the Show Offs here, but part of my goal of continuing to paint, and to getting better, is to keep myself honest by posting as I go. So here then is High Exemplar Kreoss by Privateer Press. There are parts on here that I really like and parts that I know I still need to work on (in general). For the most part, I'm pretty happy with how the shoulder pads in particular came out, while the gold parts are still giving me fits when I try to shade. I know I really need to work on my paint consistency (I think) when shading the gold, but I also have decided to be satisfied in many instances with "good enough". Part of this is to keep me painting and realizing that I'll only get better with time. I do need to work on my blending some. On the robes in particular there are some pretty hash transition lines, but I still feel I am well ahead of where I was even six months ago. All in all, I think I met my goal of Table Top quality.
  2. So since I was kidding Ub3r earlier, I feel its only fair that I post my own WIP (which will likely be slow progress). This is High Exemplar Kreoss, a.k.a. Kreoss 1, a.k.a. pKreoss. A Warcaster for the Protectorate of Menoth in Warmachine by PP. This is just a quick shot of him primed (along with my lovely thumb as I had to hold it close to the light in order to get any of the details to stick out). I should have an update tomorrow with some early base coating!
  3. I did this as a "Test" in colors reminiscent of the Protectorate of Menoth from the game Warmachine. I am generally pleased with the outcome. It took WAY longer than I had anticipated but mostly because I was trying some new techniques and had several missteps. I tried lining for the first time and while you may not see it as much as I had hoped, there was a drastic change from the pre-lined result which I think really was helpful. I did something different with the base for the first time as well as I thought it was about time that I started making more effort to create a "complete package". This was a simple terrain dust but it was my first experiment and I am pleased with that as well. This was also not the best sculpt. Of all the Bones mini's I have purchased, this one had probably the most defects. Coupled with my ineptitude, the right side of his face became utterly destroyed in my attempts to clean and reshape. As a result, I decided to embrace this and gave him a serious facial scar which in my mind was inflicted upon him by a demoness wielding a fiery dagger after she attempted to seduce him into giving up his immortal soul and failing as his faith in the light is unshakable. Comments and critiques are very welcome.
  4. OK folks this is my most recent attempt at painting. I decided to do this mini in the color scheme of the Protectorate of Menoth from Warmachine. Basically I am doing a test paint to acclimate myself to the colors and techniques that I will use as I begin painting several minis for the Mk III release of Warmachine. I need some help though, I have had several missteps in this paint thus far and am struggling to see this as a success. 1) How should I highlight the white? Should I do darker tones around the highlight areas? 2) Should I use some liner to try and add some more contrast? I feel like the sculpt wasn't the best and then my mediocre painting skills don't help and I feel like a lot of the details this mini did have have been obscured by my crappy painting abilities. 3) I REALLY don't know how to highlight the top cape and the crest on the shield as that color is a combo of Bloodstain Red,Violet Light and then glazed over with Clear Magenta. I know that's a lot but there are very specific colors for the faction and I am trying to get as close to that as possible. 4) Can someone please explain Ink's to me? I used a red ink on the bottom cape as it was suggested somewhere else to help with contrast on similar colors and while I like the outcome, it shifted the color in a way that I didn't expect and am not certain how or why inks are used. 5) Finally, if anyone does play Warmachine as Menoth I would like to know what your thoughts are on my colors; I am currently only using Reaper paints.
  5. I bought Feora here a long time ago, intending to start painting things for sale on eBay...then i got a job and never did that, and she's been sitting basecoated for years. I have a friend who plays Menoth now, and I had some spare time to paint. This is about two and a half hours worth of painting, plus whatever I spent on the basecoats years ago, so not a lot of craziness...just a bit of freehand and some shaded metallics. Pretty pleased with the white on her given the time. C&C Welcome!
  6. OK, just so everyone knows, this is the Harbinger... I didn't paint this or assemble it. I just like the picture so everyone can have an idea of what I have to work with and what the miniature is intended to look like. Also, this is in the 26mm scale. Here's my idea for the conversion. I'm going to lose the banner and banner pole, the sword, and probably the shoulder pads as well. I want the figure to have her arms raised high, both hands on a sword held above her head, with the point straight up to the heavens. That's not the hard part though. The hard part I need help with is this: I want to use a piece of crystal, glass or plastic for the sword. I want to run a small fiber optic cable from the hilt of the sword to and LED, and I want to connect that LED to a batter so that I can make the sword glow FOR REAL! Additionally, where should I go to purchase these sorts of paraphenelia? This will be my first time playing with this kind of thing and I was hoping that all the people here could help me out. Ahead of time let me say, "Thanks for the help, I'm gonna need it!"
