Darklands: Brutal Beasts I don't really keep up with Mierce Miniatures anymore, but it looks like they just launched a new KS.

About this project Check the comments on this project for sneak peeks, Darklands lore, hints, tactics, painting advice and general insanity! The community that builds during these Kickstarter projects is amazing, and even if you just read the comments, you'll gain so much more from Darklands: Starter Hosts! Backing Darklands: Savage Hordes IV is a great opportunity to get into the dark fantasy world of Darklands for the first time, to expand your existing Darklands collection or maybe just to grab some fantastic miniatures to paint. Warriors of Cantwaraburg, Jutgār Unit We'll give you the option to purchase everything in resin, too, if you're more of a painter than a gamer! Darklands is a tabletop skirmish wargame in which YOU command the hosts of man and beast that your ancestors once did for glory, power or simple survival. You can play Darklands with all of our amazing miniatures, including our incredible monsters and anything produced by this project, in a wargame designed specifically for them in a setting that you already know a lot about... for the lands of darkness, the "dark lands" as we call them, are in fact the north and west of Europe and of course the sunken lands still remembered, yet no longer seen, from ancient times. Intrigued? Download the Darklands: First Edition Quick Play Guide to learn how to play very quickly, and have a good look at the Lands of Darkness Kindred Guide to give you an insight into the lore behind the game. Additionally, have a look at the bottom of this project's page for more information on Darklands the wargame! New to Darklands? Choose your infantry host, and get the "STARTER BUNDLE" reward! It's the easiest way to get playing! To keep things as simple as possible, this project’s rewards are based around the concept of a Starter Host. All Starter Hosts contain a small Darklands host of around 499 gold - so Encounter Host size - where possible, and you can add the Darklands: First Edition rule book, order tokens and D10 dice to your pledge to ensure you have everything you need to get started! As well as the hosts listed in the stretch goals, you can purchase any of the Infantry Starter Hosts in metal or resin from the graphic below - either as single purchases or as part of the "FIVE INFANTRY HOSTS" reward. Each Infantry Starter Host almost always contains: 1x Commander 1x Infantry unit of 10x miniatures, including champion, banner bearer and herald where appropriate 1x Monstrous Infantry unit of 5x warriors (50mm) or 3x warriors (60mm) Note that 60mm monstrous infantry units (such as the Srónax) can only be produced in resin regardless of whether your purchase is for a metal host or a resin host. ADD NEW WARRIORS OF BAALOR / SLEANAGH / WIHTSWEORDS ETC. Most of these Infantry Starter Hosts are already released to the public; new ones will be released to the public in similar format either later on this year or early next. Support Starter Hosts are exactly the same as Infantry Hosts in terms of costs, and always contain: 1x Support Commander 1x Support Unit of 10x miniatures, including champion 1x Monstrous Support Unit of 3x warriors, including champion Note that 60mm or 80mm monstrous infantry units (such as the Bholg of Acaill) can only be produced in resin regardless of whether your purchase is for a metal host or a resin host. Some of these Support Starter Hosts are already released to the public; new ones will be released to the public in similar format either later on this year or early next. As well as the Infantry Starter Hosts and Support Starter Hosts we have a number of Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts, based around the same principle of 499 gold or Encounter Host size, where possible. Each Monstrous Infantry Starter Host almost always contains: 1x Monstrous Commander 1x Monstrous Infantry unit of 5x miniatures, including champion, banner bearer and herald where appropriate 1x Monstrous Beast Note that 60mm monstrous infantry hosts and all of the monstrous beasts will only be produced in resin regardless of whether your purchase is for a metal host or a resin host. Most of these Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts are already released to the public; new ones will be released to the public in similar format either later on this year or early next. We're also introducing a new type of host this time around - the Monstrous Beast Starter Host, which will bring some excellent punch to your hosts! These are based around units of 3x 80mm monstrous beast units, such as the Felljötunn Host. Monstrous Beast Starter Hosts can only be produced in resin. Each of these Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts will be released to the public in similar format either later on this year or early next.

This is Vilthiss Snake Champion from Mierce's Banelords Range. Resin. Base is made with a Greenstuffworld Rollerpin some skulls and a few of Ristul's Fantasy Market's resin bugs. After taking the pics I noticed a little too much purple gums on the upper side of the teeth, it's fixed. He's part of my Lost World Project which you can find here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69308-lost-world-project-glitterwolf-paints-coldblooded-creatures-and-conquistadores/&page=154 This guy has some belts and buckles, If I didn't know better I would suspect it was a Klocke sculpt.. NEW PICS ADDED Fixed the teeth and added a reflection dot. First 5 pics are the new ones.

Found this in a box labeled "Mierce." I think it is from a KS, I don't know. I can't find it on their web site and they've had about a hundred crowdfunded projects. Does anyone recognize her? I'm looking for an image I can use as an assembly guide.

Well, After a long time of having only posted WIPs and being not able to finish something, here is another Show Off. Actually she is already a bit older, but - a finished miniature is a finished miniatures ... I painted her as some kind of a test using some new washes and trying some techniques. Came out pretty decent, I think. The only mistake I made back then was to give her a coat of mat laquer in the end. That did some frosting (a problem that ruined the arcane spellmaster later on), but opposite to the other figures I lost using laquer, I somehow managed to save most of her. Well, one of her eyes is a bit blind and on some detail shots you can see the leftovers of the frosting. But nevertheless - I managed to try out some techniques regarding the skin and the clothes and it somehow makes me proud. P.S.: Yes - yes - the frosting on the base is intentional. A friend suggested that I should try a late autumn base with first pieces of snow and ice - like in "The house of flying daggers".

Here is a fairly large dragon from Mierce Miniatures. My client had me use a similar color scheme to the Visceralyn that I painted for a competition a few years ago. I think he came out rather nice- I only wish I had photographed him with a dark background (since that tends to improve the look of OSL minis like this one).

I think this is the first time I am showing off a miniature on this forum. I've been painting a couple years now and have done a several dozen minis, which I may share here at some point. I'm pleased how the photography turned out on Nuala taken with my iPhone 5. Nuala is a metal model from the Erainn kindred by Mierce Miniatures. She is the first of their models that I've painted. She still has a dagger that needs to be glued to her hip, I just wanted to photograph her before varnishing in case the colors change (and to document whether the colors change). She has such fine features, and my Series 7 brushes are finally starting to lose their sharp tips, I need new ones soon. I've done a number of Bones figures, but the only thing similar to Nuala's scale that I've done were a few models from Red Box Games. I must admit that I shamelessly stole lots of the color choices from MaGie's version of her. I find that copying great painters helps me learn. And yes her left eye being messed up bothers me, but I'm too nervous with my brushes to try to fix it. And in person with my less than perfect eyesight, I can't tell her eye is that bad. She's also the first figure I painted using the new Rathcore Grip from his Kickstarter. Those things are amazing.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mierceminiatures/darklands-metal-age/description Darklands: Metal Age is a fantastic Kickstarter project from Mierce Miniatures designed to re-tool our miniatures to get you playing Darklands cheaply - for it provides you with an Infantry Starter Host in metal that includes a commander, infantry unit and monstrous infantry unit for just £60 ($90), saving you over 70% from the equivalent in resin. That means you're getting our amazing rank and file infantry at around £2 ($3) each! An example of a metal Ax-Drune, resin Ax-Drune and undercoated metal Ax-Drune A scale comparison between an Ax-Drune and miniatures from other manufacturers Backing Darklands: Metal Age is a great opportunity to get into the dark fantasy world of Darklands for the first time (especially as the Darklands: First Edition rulebook is just around the corner), to expand your existing Darklands collection or maybe just to grab some fantastic miniatures to paint. We'll give you the option to purchase everything in resin, too, if you're more of a painter than a gamer! put off by the fragility of resin for gaming, or the price well if so (or if you just want to have bigger hosts) then this one may be for you (and you can always end up using your pledge on resin items from the webstore too)

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mierceminiatures/darklands-first-edition?ref=live Darklands: First Edition We can't let an update go by without mentioning the next Kickstarter, provisionally entitled "Darklands: First Edition". It's slated to start on the 16th of September, only ten days away - eeek!! As mentioned previously, it will focus on the full Darklands rules and, of course, will enable you to help our range and wargame grow. We will be hoping to create new miniatures for the Angelcynn, Brythoniaid, Fomoraic, Khthones, Norse and Ysians as well as fill out the Albainn and the Byzantii into hosts that can compete with the rest! The Darklands: First Edition project format will be completely different to this one, for many reasons, but chiefly because the main focus should be about the first edition Darklands rules and what you'll immediately need to create a host to play. As such, there will be no starter sets and the rewards will be completely different, as will the stretch goals and freebies. So ensure you read the following carefully! Darklands: First Edition reward The hardback rulebook for Darklands will be available to purchase immediately the project begins, and there will be an "early bird" reward (giving those who purchase early a discount) for the rulebook only. The rulebook will simply depend upon reaching the minimum amount of money we require to fund the project successfully - likely to be £20,000. Nobles rewards Four rewards featuring completely new miniatures - all nobles, to command your hosts - will be available immediately the project begins, which will be: GENERAL -- £30 - a mounted general (except Khthones) for each of the eight kindreds COMMANDER -- £10 - a commander for each of the eight kindreds SORCERER -- £10 - a sorcerer (or equivalent) for each of the eight kindreds MONSTROUS COMMANDER -- £30 - a monstrous commander for each of the eight kindreds Each of these rewards will ONLY be produced if a certain amount of money is pledged and are, effectively, stretch goals that are unveiled right from the start (and in the above order). We hope to reach their stretch goals fairly quickly, and to that end, we're introducing early bird specials for each of the above, with a couple of pounds off each, and a huge "own them all" reward too. They are available immediately so that people can choose to purchase them separately from the rulebook. Hosts rewards Three rewards will enable backers to purchase entire hosts for each kindred - that will include new nobles from this Kickstarter as well as already available miniatures, packaged into a nice big box with tokens, dice and so forth - will be available immediately the project begins. These rewards will be packaged to a certain size of host, both to keep things simple and to ensure retailers can get their hands on them, and thus their contents CANNOT be changed. ENCOUNTER HOST -- £80 - 500 gold SKIRMISH HOST -- £160 - 1,000 gold BATTLE HOST -- £400 - 2,500 gold Some Hosts will only be produced if the units within them are due to be produced; for example, an Albainn host would only be produced if Albainn units are produced. As such, the availability of hosts will be fairly dynamic during the Kickstarter. Note that no stretch goals depend upon these hosts; they are simply there for those that want things easy! Again, they are available immediately so that people can choose to purchase them separately from the rulebook. Other Stretch Goals As mentioned above, Nobles and Hosts rewards are effectively stretch goals in their own right, although we certainly expect the Nobles rewards (and the smaller Hosts rewards) to hit their stretch goals quite quickly in the duration of the project. Units, Beasts and other things will be available as stretch goals once we reach certain levels. Each kindred will have units and beasts, but they will be unveiled one at a time; producing units and beasts is expensive, and it makes more sense to have eight stretch goals for lesser amounts than one big stretch goal for a large amount. Freebies There will be freebies, but they will ONLY be available if a relevant reward has been purchased and, of course, if a stretch goal is reached. To Re-Iterate... Here's a quick re-cap on what's been said previously. Darklands: First Edition will begin around the 16th of September and end 30 days later in mid-October Items from it will be produced and shipped throughout 2014 The Angelcynn, Brythoniaid, Fomoraic, Khthones, Norse and Ysian kindreds will feature in full. Two new kindreds will feature - the Albainn and the Byzantii (including some Infernii) Almost all of the miniatures funded by this Kickstarter will not have been seen before (except for the host boxes); although, if we get enough money to produce a Krokodar unit, Megálávra and Vókkinak would feature The possibility of other kindreds - Atalantes, Érainn etc. - getting the odd miniature does exist, but depends on how much is garnered (we do stress, it's only a possibility) NONE of the items currently available (i.e., released) will feature - so get them now! We will produce a concept art book, stretch goals permitting We will produce a background book, stretch goals permitting We will produce a limited run "Collector's Edition" book that will only be available during this Kickstarter that will be of very fine quality We will be using new artists for many concepts We will produce kindred dice, stretch goals permitting Everything from warlords to units to monstrous beasts will feature, stretch goals permitting There will be exclusives and freebies It will definitely be less confusing than this one! Sneak Tease We do sincerely hope you guys take part in the next Kickstarter! To whet your appetite even further, here's another sneak concept peek...

This was part of the first batch of miniatures that I purchased when I started painting a couple of years ago or so. I mostly waited to paint him because there was no way I could see to put him together and then paint him. There would always be areas that I could get a brush to. So he sat on my table in pieces for a long time. Taunting me. After finally picking up some paint on primer, I was able to prime each part and paint separately before assembling. So even though you can't see his muscular back, it still fully painted. A long 2 month journey with a crazy amount of hours and a base that was a little bit more special than my usual sprinkled grass. I am happy. Next up is a Reaper model, since I always feel guilty if I post something non Reaper here. Plus I am honestly dying to paint this Reaper model Iron Maiden looking guy I picked up. I do use 99% Reaper paints Anyway, hope you enjoy.

I've been painting up miniatures to represent the characters in our Pathfinder game (previous ones include my own character Thula the Witch, Fidrak the Bloodrager, and Tyrax the Slayer). I've now come to the last member of the group; Lucius the Oracle. The Oracle in Pathfinder is kind of a variant of the Cleric class, where the character draws his divine power from some obscure source called a mystery, rather than from a specific god. This character, Lucius, chose "Dark Tapestry" as his mystery, meaning that he draws his power from the unknown outer darkness of the universe, and his backstory is that he's actually a fallen angel who was stripped of most of his memories, cursed and branded by the gods, before being cast out of heaven to walk the earth as a lowly level 1 character. As he levels up, Lucius will be able to grow leathery bat wings and blast his foes with Cthulhoid insanity-inducing bolts. All-in-all, a fun guy to have as a friend. The priestly-looking miniature in question is Caedoc, a member of the Brythoniaid kindred for the Darklands range from Mierce Miniatures. I like the sculpt (can't quite seem to find who the sculptor is right now), but must admit the club is pretty damn oversized (it doesn't look like he could even wrap his fingers around the massive hilt!). Painting-wise, because of the characters story, I wanted to choose a color scheme that could work both for a priestly type, but also a more evilly aligned character like a cultist or sorcerer. Hence, the purple cloak. He was fun to paint, but I struggled with doing anything that looked decent with the face (it's so tiny). Because of the hood, this part isn't very visible on the tabletop though, so it'll just have to do. I'm afraid the photos ended up slightly blurry, but I hope you still like him! And finally, a shot of the whole gang together. Well, actually, there's a fifth character in the group as well, but he was painted by the DM of the game; an arrogant nobleman from Cheliax who is a Gunslinger/Alchemist multiclass. As you might see, there are some scale differences here, most notably the Kingdom Death mini is a bit larger than the Mierce Miniatures one and the two from Red Box Games. I think they still work alright together, though, and tried to compensate slightly by basing the two shortest members of the group on raised steps.

Euryalia- mostly naked Darklands Demoness (links)
odinsgrandson posted a topic in Show Off: Painting
Here is a demoness that I painted up for a client a little while ago. I think she came out rather nice in the end. She's from the Darklands line (Mierce miniatures) and the details is quite good. While I personally find her more grotesque than erotic, she falls on link posting side of things. My client actually requested that she be more grotesque, since she's meant for gaming (and playing with a totally nude army can get a little awkward). I've also put her up on CMON for anyone who cares to vote. angle 1 angle 2 angle 3- 12 replies

Here is Meloda, from the Darklands range of minis. I've painted up a few Darklands minis, and I find that I am very fond of their sculpts. I normally think of them as a line of monstrous minis, but their human barbarians look quite good too. Here is meloda:

In our next session the PC's in my Pathfinder game are about to be hit with some troll action, so I painted up a few more of my Darklands trolls from Mierce Miniatures, to go with the one I already did. Here we have Gamla Bror ("Old Brother" in Swedish), a troll shaman, together with one of his cleaver-wielding goons. They're mounted on 60 mm bases from Dragon Forge Design, who are actually right now running a Kickstarter to expand the number of designs they have in this series of bases (the series is called "Ancient Ruins"). I really love working with these bases; they paint up very easily and for me manage to hit the exact sweet spot between being nicely detailed, but not too busy and also very practical to mount miniatures on. Anyway, pictures! First up we have Gamla Bror, who I think might be one of my all time favorite miniatures (Allan Carrasco is the genius who sculpted this beast). Next, a lowly troll warrior armed with his implement of destruction of choice. I had a rear shot of this guy, but had to remove it as I realised his... manly parts were pretty prominent. Believe me when I say this monster is male, though. Very much male. And a group shot of Gamla Bror urging his hideous minions into battle.

I really love the Mierce Miniatures trolls, masterfully sculpted by Allan Carrasco, and this one was an absolute joy to paint. The paint scheme is nothing groundbreaking, basically just copying what I have seen others do; I consider myself more of an executer than an innovator. Anyway, hope you like him, I haven't varnished yet so still open for suggestions of improvement. I have a couple more of these trolls that I intend to paint similarly, this is kind of the test model, so I really would appreciate critique! The skin was done by basecoating the various parts with Pale Olive, Muddy Olive and Olive Drab, with some blending in between. Then everything was given a wash with Olive Shadow, followed by some highlighting back up with the base colors. Perhaps I need to do more highlighting, what do you think? I do want to keep him kind of grim and gritty as befits Darklands, so I'm unsure. This was the first time I attempted to paint rusted metal. I basically followed this nice tutorial but with Reaper paints; basecoating with Muddy Brown, followed by successive stipling with Chestnut Brown, Phoenix Red and Shadowed Steel. Then the whole thing was given a wash with GW's Nuln Oil (OK, that one wasn't Reaper), and finished off with a little touch up with Shadowed Steel. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Perhaps I went a bit far with the amount of rust, but I wanted to push the idea that these trolls are just absolute savage, nasty brutes. Anyway, painting rust was really fun, I have some skeletons lined up for paint and they're definitely getting the treatment!
