  1. The third of three Judges done today, it's Old Stoney Face himself, Judge Dredd! He's the Law, and you'd better believe it, creep! I'm pretty happy with how he went, came out more or less exactly how I planned. To think I originally backed the JD kickstarter just for this figure, and ended up pledging $150+! Worth it, though.
  2. Well, I painted this. I'm not really sure it's much to show off about, but at least it's done. This is definitely my least favourite of the Renegade Robot set, so it was kind of a chore to paint, and it shows. Ah, well. Onward and upward.
  3. Mr Chimpy McChimperson is all done! I couldn't resist including a little cross-comic reference: Overall I'm pretty happy with this little ape, though I kind of forgot what I was doing and fluffed the jeans, and I think maybe the belly sticking out should have been covered in black hair. Not sure if the bloody bat is too much; I may be overdoing it with the gore lately because I have a recipe that I'm really happy with. Also, I need a better name for him than Chimpy McChimperson. Maybe... the Bear Chimp?
  4. This fella's been WIP for far too long, so I got him finished up tonight. Basically, I decided I wanted several different colours on him but I didn't want it to look like an explosion at a clown college. So, I went with four colours, with each colour repeated on three panels (when in doubt with a colour scheme, I use the Rule of Three). I think it worked quite well, and with the servo droid I finished tonight as well it puts me over half way to completing the renegade robot gang - only another servo droid, a robodog and the combat droid to go!
  5. The recent (and long awaited) arrival of my Judge Dredd rulebook has got me on another Mega-City One painting kick! Finished up a couple of renegade robots today, here's the servo droid. I couldn't resist adding some gore to the chainsaw after reading a nice and simple tutorial recently. I decided not to go for a full-on splatterfest, though, it would have been quite easy to go overboard. I really like this model for reasons I'm not entirely sure about. I think it's the strange combination of the droid's non-threatening design and the huge chainsaw it has for a hand.
  6. Hi all, recently got the Dark Judges from Mongoose's Judge Dredd Kickstarter. After a foray into the advice section for Fire, I feel I am now ready to tackle these iconic villains. Starting with Mortis as he is perhaps the least important and thus less pressure to get it right first time! Ps, I know about the flash next to the tail.
  7. Some decent shots of the Street Judges I painted on holiday. Painted as a group to fit with the ones that I've already done. This bumps me up over half way done with my Judges! Well, until Chief Judge Hershey arrives, when I'll slide back to exactly half.
  8. This is one funky monkey. My first and natural instinct was to paint him with a standard black leather jacket, but I thought I'd give him a bit of a James Dean look with the red jacket and jeans. The rest really just fell together nicely. Big risk with this guy was the shades - I hummed and hahhed about doing black shades or mirror shades, but my better half convinced me that I should be trying to grow my skills and I went for it. I wouldn't say it came out exactly perfect, or that it was necessarily the right mini to do it on, but I'm happy with it.
  9. This renegade robot dog was really fun to paint, and only took an hour or two. His name is CL1FF0RD and, as was pointed out in my WIP thread, he totally looks like a Voltron cat. I really feel like I might actually be improving in painting flat areas of colour!
  10. A renegade robot servo droid with stump gun, all based and ready to go! Totally not a C-3PO ripoff. Not at all. Really glad I ended up going with normal layering instead of drybrushing with this one, totally paid off.
  11. Hi all, MrC's son here, recently got the Dark Judges from the Judge Dredd kickstarter (at last!) and really digging the sculpts, especially fire. Trouble is the detail on Fire is beyond what I've dealt with previously, and I haven't ever painted a mini that's 'on fire' per se... so does anyone have any advice on painting flames? Included are a few photos of the judges. Any C&C on the rest will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  12. One of three Judges I got done today, here's Judge DeMarco: I think I managed to get the hair kind of right, not quite perfect but close enough. I considered trying to do some freckles, but even with the tips in the painting advice thread I'm not confident enough to try and pull it off.
  13. One of three Judges done today, Judge Giant: Boy, it took a while to get the skin tone right on this one. I haven't painted a lot of African skin tones, which makes me feel a little bit racist. But I think I got there in the end, or at least somewhere in the right direction.
  14. Last one done for the weekend! Yes, that is a banana in his pocket. He's probably still happy to see you, though. I'm happy with how all the colours turned out on him, but he's leaning slightly forward on his base so it's a bit tricky to get a good photo angle.
  15. All done, not a lot to him but I think it looks pretty good. I think I need to work on highlighting flat surfaces a bit more. I never was that good at painting Space Marines.
  16. Painted this lady up in just one night, pretty happy with the outcome. I'm particularly pleased with being able to pull off a decent-looking blonde for once. Have to say that the body suit didn't work as well as I would have liked, but I'm calling her done.
