  1. Hello everyone, some more Underworld dwellers. Here are my 44045, Shrieking Fungi sculpted by Bob Ridolfi.
  2. Good day everyone, I completed my Perils of the Underworld diorama. I changed the name simple because there is a trademark on the word Underdark. Here are the pictures, do not hesitate to leave any critiques as I would like to improve anything that does not look right. The building WIP can be found here and the painting WIP here. To realize this diorama, I used Reaper Miniatures model and MSP paint only. The whole idea of this project started with the gemstone the gnome is holding in her left hand. I converted 03082 Ingrid the female gnome sculpted by Derek Schubert as a svirfneblin prospector. (Svirfneblin is the name given to deep gnome in the Forgotten Realms lore). She is exploring the Underworld in search of precious minerals. She's riding her faithful familiar the 14453 hunting cat sculpted by Sandra Garrity. They are taken as prey by an ambushed 03602 stone lurker sculpted by Kevin Williams. There is also a 02018 bat from the familiar pack 1 hanging from its perch and several mushrooms I sculpted in green stuff to complete the scene. The mushroom I sculpted are all found in the Forgotten Realms lore, the blue ones are called nightlight fungus, the round ones on the ground at the back of the display are called timmask, the pink ones are glowcap mushroom and the ones growing on the roots are ripplebark. It took me about 90 hours of work to do this diorama, not including the time I spent preparing the WIP. Enjoy!
  3. Simple paint job for the Mushroom King. I wanted it to be all white, like a typical mushroom from your refrigerator, but that was way too boring. But I do like the small pops of color here and there. As always comments and critiques welcomed and encouraged!
  4. This was my entry in the Reaper Facebook Quarterly Painting Contest. I wanted her to look like she is living in a magical cavern. I had a whole vision for how I wanted her base and I mostly pulled it off. She turned out pretty much how I envisioned her. It took way more work than I anticipated but I learned a whole lot about making scenic bases! I ended up buying a router and having my husband help me create the cave in the side of the plinth. She sits on the base so I can still grab her and put her on the table for D&D if I want to. My only issue with her is that she is difficult to photograph! I don't have a good picture of the back.
  5. This mushroom guy was painted up by my sister. I like her work on this one. I hope you do too Here are the before and after pics
  6. Some partly modified Nolzur's Myconid Adults, plus a WotC Manes demon I got in a random box. I had no need of flabby little demons, and I do have need of spore servants, so I took drill and sewing pins to them as described in this thread: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/85573-putting-the-fun-in-fungal-infestation/ Behold Mushroom Buddy 1! He's inspired by Boletus subvelutipes, Boletus bicolor, and other more flashy boletes. And here's Mushroom Buddy 2, modded up with pins. More of a Boletus edulis / B. pinophilus look to him, with enokitake/ Flammulina velutipes sprouts. More of a waxy-cap or psilocybe color to the little sprouts though; all pale would be boring. And here's Cletus the spore servant. I figure in life he was a very fat goblin. I made these mushroom stems a very subtle purple (Slaanesh grey + Reaper Vampiric Flesh). And here's a group shot!
  7. A while back I posted some Shroom Dudes I'd sculpted, and noted one of them had a bunch of little shroom fruiting bodies sticking out all over. I mentioned how this was done, but a step-by-step can't hurt. You'll need a mini, sewing pins with flattish but slightly domed heads, a very fine drill, some pliers, and superglue. Here's a long-unused Manes demon I got in a WotC grab bag, and a much-more-recently-acquired Nolzur's Myconid Adult. Let's call 'em Cletus and Boletus. Cletus will become a Spore Servant.Boletus will get an upgrade. Clamp your mini down firmly. FIRMLY! Otherwise the drill bit may try to skitter, and if there's one thing you DON'T want skittering, it's a rotating blade. Now, get a very very fine drill bit and drill some holes in 'em! What angle should those holes be? It's graceful if they're more vertical than 90°, but you can make it work with most angles. Next, get as many pins as you have holes drilled. These pins will be your long-stemmed mushrooms. It's probably smart to gauge the angle of the hole by inserting a straight pin into each hole before you begin the next step. And it's always a good idea to be a smarter crafter than I! Then, BEND them pins. You want smooth curves, but *not* consistent lengths or uniform shapes. Mushrooms do not require light to grow, but the taller they are, the further their spores can disperse. Now, get that superglue and glue those pins into the holes you've made for them. I advise starting at the top and working down. For verisimilitude, you want to avoid uniform heights and parallel curves (and indeed, straight lines at all). Then slap some paint onto those fungal stems and caps, and hey presto!
  8. These were made by me out of fimo air (I have recently strated making these whenever I have leftover clay from my other sculpts, which is always ). They are super quick and simple sculpts but I like them. They were actually painted by my sister and I think she did a lovely job. I apologize for the flash in advance, I just didn't menage to set the lighting right so their faces can be seen
  9. Maybe this should have gone in the Sculpting thread, but I didn't make a build log when I sculpted these about four years ago. It was my first game DMing, a 5e homebrew, and enigmatic mycelial conspiracies played a large part. At this point I only knew the FLGS as a source of minis, and they didn't have any myconids. So I made do. One of them is based loosely off of bracket fungus and one off of amanita toadstools. Showing them off now because a) I picked up some Nolzur/Wizkids new Myconid Adult sculpts to go along with them, and b) I'm seeing so many wonderful mushroom-folk on the forums and love jumping in front of bandwagons. The sculpting was ham-fisted and the painting leaves much to be desired, but I am proud of one innovation that you can use for your myconids: for that enokitake effect, get a bunch of sewing pins, clip to different lengths, and bend them into a gentle curve near the cut or pointy end. Cluster as necessary.
  10. Jet another one Fimo Air creation of mine I didn't know how to name them differently :D Decided to try and paint them super wacky and cartoonish Sorry for the bad lighting
  11. Howdy, A Reaper fungus for your delection... Kev!
  12. A group I’m in on Facebook had an underdark challenger so I couldn’t share these until it was over, the big guy won it! I love these sculpts and I can not wait to get underdark (I’m sorry....darkreach) expansion pack when Bones 4 arrives...
  13. Howdy, Play that fungi music! Kev!
  14. Well, we have my next installment in some townsfolk Adventuring Kids. Cuthem the Barbarian with a ummmm.... follower of sorts, Spire. The names were given by @SisterMaryNapalm in the WIP I have running for these little tykes. Spire was donated to the cause of this little scene by @malefactus. Love the stuff he makes. Scene Set if fiction by @SisterMaryNapalm "Who are you?" "Me? Ah - don't mind me. I am just an obscure bystander." "You are? You look like a big talking mushroom." "Yeah ... I mean ... what a nice axe you've got there. It's pretty sharp, isn't it?" "It is. You can chop a guy in half. That's not something you can do every day!" "Sounds like your favorite 80's action film." "What's that?" "Never mind. My name is Fungal Spire." "Barbaria Cutthem." Cutthem and Spire - the new show on Netflix WIP Here Thanks for Viewing my madness and any C&C you feel inspired to give.
  15. Here's my brushwork on the long-anticipated (at least for me) Fightin' Fungi! These guys were unreached stretch goals during the original "Advanced Song of Blades & Heroes" Kickstarter, and finally came out with the recent Halfling vs. Chaos Dwarf expansion of "Axe & Brimstone" The Fungal Gladiator: The Bleeding Assassin: Goldcap, the Paladin:
  16. Not all was peace and quiet in the forest. Lately a group of little demons had infested the place. These Imps, Hordlings or whatever they were called, harassed the little animals, the fairies and they damaged the trees and the mushrooms. Even the Grand Mushroom watched in horror how they terrorized the Forest, but he could do nothing. One day the Imps captured one of the fairies and beat her up. She could barely escape and she fled crying. Almost leaving the forest, she came by a small dirt road, and she noticed a cart coming. Quickly she hid between the bushes. A wizard passed by, contemplating his latest spells, a cart filled with supplies. The donkey pulling the cart, was in no hurry it seemed. Slowly it passed by. The fairy looked at the cart, she sneaked into the back. The wizard didn't notice the little fairy rummaging through his supplies, he was too caught up in his spells. Suddenly the fairy noticed a bottle, the label said: Gigantic Growth. Feeling her blood rising to her cheeks she stole the bottle and hopped off the cart. She went back into the forest. The Imps saw her coming and started laughing. Clearly this one hadn't had enough! The fairy drank the potion, all of it, and in a moment she started to grow. One Imp said...this can't be good! The next moment the fairy had her revenge, she trampled the first Imp into the ground and chased the others. Even the Grand Mushroom felt sorry for the Imps now! For those interested WIP here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/71076-impfestation-by-xherman1964-mushroom-fairy-and-imps/ Components: Base - was a gift from the Awesome Knarthex! The Grand Mushroom - Sculpted and also a gift from Malefactus!!! Yes, the forum is full of wonderful people. Fairy - Hasslefree Fairies Wear Boots. Imps - Bones Hordlings and the little Drow Imp from Reaper's Familiar Pack IX. Little Mushrooms - Resin from Ristul's Market. Hope you like it.
  17. I consider this more of a mushroom family. King, Queen and Prince/Princess. I finished a King a year or two ago. Finally finished the rest of the group.
  18. WIP #1 was animals. WIP #2 will be plants. Until Bones 3 arrives, I only have 2 sets of plant creatures. Spirit of the Forest and Mushrooms (a 3 pack). I decided to warm up with the fun guys. First sliced some mold lines. Not too bad and not being super picky with these. Here they are ready for their bath. After some hot water and a scrub with the old toothbrush, I mounted them each on their own homemade holder. staff on the big one was noticeably less bent after the hot water rinse. then they got a diluted coat of brown liner. next up... Base coats.
  19. Here are three Reaper Bones fungi-folk. Not trying to compete with Malefactus or anything. Just having fun with secondary colors. I tried making my image file sizes smaller but it seemed to make the pictures blurry. What do y'all think?
  20. A little while ago I purchased Hasslefree's "Fairies Wear Boots" piece. The Gothic Punk like Fairy stomps on candy. Now I kept thinking that it would be fun to have her chasing little Imps and stomp those into the ground. So I got me some little familairs and stuff from Reaper. Then Malefacus ( Al) send me a wonderful Mushroom he sculpted. To top things off, Knarthex ( George) send me some stuff including a nice oval wooden plinth. Thinking about it all, I realised I now have the ingredients to start on this piece. The Idea is the Fairy chases Imps and Stomps a few into the ground. Maybe she swallowed a growth potion or something. Now she can finally have her revenge on those pesky Imps! The Mushroom watches the whole scene in horror. I will not use all these Imps/Demons, but I will take my pick which will suit the scene best. To complement the large Shroom, I will include some smaller resin mushrooms. Painting will follow later, but here are the ingredients:
  21. The other half has taken to figure sculpting. I managed to sneak a pic of the concept work and one of the pieces she's working on before she caught me and threw me out of the room :P Her concept art, and one of the pieces she's currently sculpting. The one being sculpted, only has half the arms attached, and the face is still being worked on. (as is the mushroom cap)
  22. All in a long weekend's work. These guys were really fun to paint.
  23. Between my bigger projects ( Tuma and Stree Violence) I wanted to do something small. Heavily inspired by Malefactus his Last Hurrah Project, I wanted to do something wih mushrooms and Goblins. I had this little Goblin Musician from Metal Magic laying around since the 90's , about time right? He is a nice little guy with a bagpipe, I sculpted the base with Milliput and some mushrooms, and added some resin mushrooms from Ristul's Market. Based ... More to follow soon,
