  1. Got a link to some 1926 saterday evening post full page adds now art ... Here ... the gallery will grow with time and ... if any of you have some cool old school to share, add a link or through up some pics.
  2. I started painting minis probably around age 13 (2002?). I used enamel paints with mineral spirits thinners, didn't believe in priming, and my brushes were awful. I also indiscriminantly mixed glossy paint and matte paint. I inhaled nasty fumes. It took 30 mins to shake a bottle of paint and a wrench to open it. I was a noob. These guys are on my windowsill behind me while I paint now. The lady with the dragon staff is the 6th I painted. The dwarf is the 40th. The others are in order between 6 and 40... except for the matron. She's one of the first I painted when I switched to acrylics in ~2010, but before I found the forums. Why do I share this? Because we all start out somewhere. I think it is useful to look back at the old stuff. I had a ton of fun with these, even if they make me cringe now. Not doing a nice photoshoot this time. Might be too painful to look at - also takes a lot of setup!
  3. Got a few gifts for the gals in the office ... got me thinking about food (I let them pick the gift subject) ... thought I'd let you all have a snek peek ... and I'll throw in a few extras ... Funny how food has hardly changed at all ... or has it ???
  4. I love a necromancer who actually looks like an old, old, old men who is determined to keep beeing old, but alive, for centuries thanks to his magic. To me that miniature was all about trying to keep the detail on the face, not loose it's wrinkles, and maybe I neglected a bit the rest. Now I see it in photo, the clothes could be better (particularly the blacks), and the metals...
  5. It really should be shelves and trays and boxes and cases and drawers and cupboards... As I try to get my painting room organized I keep being frustrated by where to put all these assortments of random partially painted, primed, and unprimed but assembled loose figures that I have in every conceivable container. So I decided I should really try to finish some up. They will be a good change of pace or when I'm tired of whatever I'm working on, or good motivation when I'm having trouble getting going (that's why I grabbed some today). Now some of these are big enough groupings that they will get their own threads, like all the Clan War stuff, the entire VOID Syntha army, the Chronopia stuff, etc but the misc bits and bobs will end up here. Starting out we have: I "think" the ballistae and catapult (onager?) were from megaminis. The multi-barrel cannon I picked up at the game store back close to 2 decades ago and have no idea who made it. I haven't done anything to the cannon yet except dust it a bit. The catapult was started, I just finished the wood to match. One ballista had the wood done, I did the other two to match. The "paint" used is the old Reaper Pro Paint Wood Shade Ink. Painting it over straight white primer gives that result. That's how I did wood back in the day..... Not sure what I'd use to highlight it....
  6. My first caster for Frostgrave. Harsh and honest critiques are most welcome.
  7. Hi I had long break from painting, because i was preparing Festus the leechlord and it is so complicated that i had enought with my hobby... Today i painted two old figures from my friend collection (I dont know manufacturer). I had to sculpt head of the dragon because it was lacking:( and i made bra for one of drows beacause she had very strange breasts. Im happy with drow skintone i think its very underdark. http://imageshack.com/a/img908/9548/eOOxF4.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img908/9599/bp9W4V.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img908/6772/SxZsVP.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img907/6008/yDCP8W.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img903/9890/vmGiJI.jpg Thanks for watching.
  8. I've started painting minis again, since this winter. I used to do some in my twentys but did not take the hobby seriously as i do now. For the last few months i've been furiously looking for my old models without success, until today! They are ral partha pewter models from the 1990's. I did not remember i had the rats , the neanderthal and the rhino, it was quite a surprise when i found them. The paint is chipped but i will remove it & redo'em. The wizards and the storm giant were done without primer, had no idea i should do that back then. All the models were done without the use of a magnefying glass, wich i do now. It's interesting seeing one's past work from 20 years ago. I wonder if i should repaint my very first ones or keep'em as is? This is a trip!
  9. I made him look a little old and beat up, and blind in one eye. Bugbears can live up to 89 years? I think?
  10. Two more of those old Warzone minis I got from jasper the 2nd. coincidentally I started playing the mutant chronicles rpg a few months ago, so Max has become one of the player's ex-venusian ranger. Billy's colors were based on the Wesley Snipes character from demolition man
  11. I finished painting the Mercurian Maculator I got from Jasper the second. He's certainly a giant hunk of metal, with a really awkward seem right at the belt line. I think the official colors was more of a green orc like thing, but I like the idea of a giant red space ape better. Max Steiner is in the first picture just for a scale reference, he's not quite done.
