So I finished this one two nights ago, didn't get around to taking his photo yesterday because I got home too late last night and it was just too dark to take advantage of natural light. Here is another Julie Guthrie Ral Partha classic from the eighties a hooded fighter/warrior/ranger with sword and shield. Being he was originally listed in the eighties as a ranger: I wanted to give greens and browns, but nowadays being he is just being called a hooded fighter, I still wanted to keep some natural colors but ended up giving him some non-rangery colors on his shield: Also his inner cloak I used the same colors and painted at the same time as the female archer I just finished (her green gloves). Anyhows, hope you enjoy another classic figure from the past! Julie Guthrie was great back then and she's even greater now!

So finally got the base finished tonight for this great Julie Guthrie figure from the eighties. I'm kind of miffed about the actual base, it's one of those transparent red Wyrd bases. When I went to the game shop, they didn't have any this size in black, so I had to grab red, prime and paint over it. Anyhow, this is I think the last in my series of leonine beasts. I've done now two lions, two manticores, and this chimera. I think I'm going to give the lions a rest for a tad. Anyway, hope you enjoy him, took a few pictures! Thanks, Mark

So it's been a few weeks since I've finished a minis, been kind of busy, but finally got this guy done last night, another Hackmaster figure that was picked up by Ral Partha, this time a mature-looking wizard with a nice wooden staff. As always, it took forever to decide colors and with his inner clothing, the lilac, that was the easiest, but after that, took a while to figure out the green in his cloak and blue on the outside. He has a little potion at his belt, tried to do a liquid effect, when I look at the photo, not so sure how it turned out though. Anyhoos, enjoy!

So at the same time I was working on my female hill giant, I was also working on two centaurs that the great Julie Guthrie had sculpted around 1982. I did them at the same time because I was looking for the same flesh tones because both I figured spend tons of time outside so should be very tan. Anyhow, an advanced warning and a link because the female centaur is showing off her mammal parts, so here's a link to her front: Female Centaur front and from the other side: As well as her male companion, who is chasing her around it seems like: Anyway a flash back into the past. These centaurs weren't actually available too long either, being replaced by other figures under their same code. I was told that if a set or figure didn't sell at least 200 pieces, they would get retired, so I imagine this might have been their fate back then which is a pity because they are really beautiful minis. And I've had both of these since the eighties, but finally got around to painting them, so hope you enjoy! It's never too late to paint a mini!

Hello Everybody, so partially inspired by a post Master Buglips did a year ago that I can't help but keep looking back to, and partially inspired by the fact that this is a figure I've always wanted to get around to painting since I first saw it in the latter seventies/early eighties, I've finally taken the plunge and splattered some paint on this excellent figure sculpted by Julie Guthrie. Unpainted, her face seems to be a little bit surreal, but once you actually get some paint on her, her face becomes both brutal and beautiful at the same time. As in everything, these pictures let me see tons of imperfections, but if you look at it with your bare eyeballs, or even close up with some magnification goggles, you don't really notice certain things. I really love this figure, and started with her skin as a base of Tanned Shadow, and then went down and up from there. Tried to keep her firmly tied into earth tones, but had to do something with the jewels, but tried to make them "nature related" by keeping them green. For a giant nowadays, she's pretty small, but if you put her up against any Partha piece of your time, she fits in quite nicely. I now have a painted giant collection that has reached the grand old amount of seven, three Meier Frost Giants, two Meier Hill Giants, a Meier Cloud Giant, and this Julie Guthrie gem, who is the smallest and squattest of them all (except if you hunt down the Tom Meier Fire Giant, who is probably just about the same size as a 21st century man-sized figure).

So, as I mentioned, I was given a pristine old Grenadier set of Champions supervillains for Christmas. On the cover is a little splash logo: “FREE Starter Scenario Game Aid and Figure Accessories” The “Starter Scenario Game Aid” is just a folded piece of paper with a hex map on one side and some suggestions on the other. But the “Figure Accessories” are two actual, substantial molded pieces: a pair of rockets and what I think is a hover-scooter. Here is an old classic Goblin model from Ral Partha. It was part of TSR D&D 10-512 Monsters Boxed Set produced in 1992. It's a 25mm tall metal "lead" model that was sculpted by Bob Olley and was painted with acrylics.

Good morning all, so hope all you that hail from the land of the Gringo are having a beautiful long weekend, I know I am, with lots of turkey and then rampant capitalism. So I finished this one last night, and just got him photographed, a Ral Partha Shadowrun Street Samurai, sculpted by Tom Meier, no idea when, late eighties/early nineties: Whenever I pull these things off their bases there is always a little piece of paint that pops off the back that I never quite catch until it's too late, but never quite care enough to fix. Good morning, here's my next figure, a Shadowrun gnome shaman, that came out of a set of MetaHuman figures, two gnomes (the female gnome already painted) a hobgoblin and a cyclops. A feisty little gnome shaman or druid, kind of scrawny with a nice long braided head of hair in the back. Fun figure to paint, a small part of the Gnomevember painting extravaganza (my extravaganza of two figures that is). No idea in the world that that thing he is holding, some kind of totem, so I pretty randomly painted it. Kind of a lot of detail for such a small little figure. Not one hundred percent sure who sculpted, but I'm guessing maybe Jim Johnson? Maybe somebody else will know a bit better. Anyhoos, hope you all enjoy!

So I'm working on a set of four, some Meta-Human Subtypes and got this one done first, a female gnome Rigger or Decker. As always, so hard to decide on colors. When I think gnomes I think of either lots of colors or just nature colors, so went with some pretty strong bright shades I think, and blue hair with that cyberpunk vibe that Shadowrun has. After this one, there's a male gnome, a cyclops and a hobgoblin with a mohawk, so hope to get those going soon as well.o When I took her off the balsa wood base I paint my figures on, a little bit of the paint came off the back of the base I can see now, so I'll eventually touch that up. This little lady is pretty small, a gnome lass in a 25 mm world, so she's not too big at all. If ever I remember I'll take a picture of her against a coin for reference.

This is an old school mini from the German rpg Das Schwarze Auge, 15500b: Female Sorcerer. I found it on the Ral Partha Europe website. WIP (incomplete) here. I'm rather pleased with how the light refraction and reflection effects on her orb turned out.

So here's the last of the trilogy I was working on, another Shadowrun figure that I finished this morning so that I could start a little vacation tomorrow without any pending figures to distract me. She's a Dennis Mize piece, female gang member with pistol from the great old Shadowrun line As with the other ones I'll eventually photograph her with the set of four figures in total she comes with, so kept her off a base and just painted the base she came with. Otherwise, the four figures with such large bases wouldn't fit in the photo. These bases in themselves are pretty large so she's pretty stable on it, even though she's kind of teetering on the back side of it. So enjoy, more miniature mayhem when I get back!

Hi guys, so I'm slowly working my way through some Shadowrun figures, and here is my latest one. This is number three of a set of four Street Mages, one more left to go on the set. Tried to use pretty much just greys, blues and purples, didn't want too much contrast! So anyhoos, not too much metal on this figure, which was kind of nice. Next one hopefully in a few days to complete the set!

As you explore the ossuary, you hear wailings coming from a dark corner behind a sarcophagus. You see what seems to be a lost child, squatting and shivering. Chills run down your spine, when you first apprehension turns out to be dreadfully wrong. This foul creature has mottled decaying flesh, its eyes burn of hatred as it looks at you with a grim smile... Not a Reaper Miniatures but I thought some of you might like that Old school Citadel miniatures FTD-12 Dwarf Children (girl), distributed in North America by RAFM back in 1981. I painted it with acrylics as a child-sized Ghoul for the purpose of a DnD game need.

Good evening everybody! So just finished another Shadowrun figure, a Street Mage with a Moon Staff. I'm not sure if the sculptor is Dennis Mize, I'm almost sure it is, but her face is a little different than a typical Mize piece. I'm going to eventually paint the entire set she came with, a bunch of Street Mages, which is why I didn't actually put her on a base, but rather painted the one she came with. It's pretty large and stable and when the other three are finished I'll want to photograph them all together, and if they're all on bases, they might not fit comfortably in the photo. So more to come! Really enjoying these Shadowrun figures. This figure I like in particular because it kind of could fit just about anywhere, she could be fantasy without any guns or modern weaponry or technology tying her down, or she could still fit in with the "post-modern" Shadowrun vibe. I may end up basing her eventually, because I really do prefer figures be on bases because they wouldn't be touched so much. So, anyhows, hopefully you like her!

I missed the first campaign, but strongly considering jumping in on this one.

So here's another homage figure I just finished. Ral Partha back in the day did a few figures based on popular figures of the time. The dwarf samurai I did recently was one, and here is another one, Elvis, King of the Bards. So hard to choose colors on him, so ended up kind of with a red, white and blue motif, kind of close to Fourth of July. He has some really small circular eyes, but they turned out surprisingly well. When I was editing the photos and got a good look at them, they were actually pretty decently laced. Anyhow, another great old Partha figure to enjoy!

Hello all, here are some more Shadowrun figures that I've been working on. Two excellent figures, probably sculpted back in the nineties by Dave Summers, two Shadowrun Dwarven Mercenaries. As usual, so hard to decide upon colors, but I think they worked out reasonably well. The first one is a delicate dwarven lady: and her stalwart male companion: First time I've ever painted modern weaponry, so hoping they turned out okay. With choosing colors, in an effort to make my life a little bit easier, I gave them the same color overcoat, just painted different color detailing on them. I find that a nice change of genre is pretty fun, I'm enjoying painting something a little less fantasy and more sci-fi for a while. I'll hope to have more of these coming soon! Enjoy!

So an EDIT: I changed up the photos and added one more different view because I took them from a slightly lower angle So it looks like Frost Giants are all the rage these days on the forums, so I'll add one more, eventually two. I have been watching Patrick Keith's frost giant queen ever since she came out on the Bones Kickstarter and got her not too long ago, but didn't feel that I could actually start on her until I got some of my older frost giant pieces out of the way. The first two on the docket are John Dennett's classic Frost Giants from the Grenadier's Giant's Club, where each giant set came with the piece of a map and an obelisk. I'm not sure if after collecting all these you were able to send them in for something? Anyhoos, here is the female frost giant, one of my all time favorite figures. I'm working still on the male frost giant who is a little more labor intensive, but I'll get him finished one of these days hopefully soon. and some of the face's close ups because I think I took the farther away photos from a higher angle which didn't quite capture the face. One thing I've found out especially towards the end of this project is that super glue and tight spaces really don't match and I managed to get the snow around and in a few places where it shouldn't be, including over the left hand's fingernails, which I took painstaking time and effort to make nice, only to get them covered by snow. The snow I used came from some modeling snow I had bought years ago. Up until now I'd been using baking soda for my snow effect, but I worried a bit that over the time it might yellow (time will tell I guess) and it would not look so nice in a few years. Okey dokey, this one I finished this morning, an old knight from Ral Partha. I think it's sculpted by Julie Guthrie, but not 100% sure. My biggest problem was what to put on the shield, and my freehand is pretty rudimentary, sonot so perfectly sure how it came out. Anyhow, hope you guys enjoy him.

Hi all, a figure I just finished yesterday (or so I thought). This is the Ral Partha Town Constable, and I was kind of intrigued by him, as he isn't a very heroic or noble looking figure, he looks a little bit lost, so I contacted Iron Wind and asked them if he was supposed to represent somebody and lo and behold, he is actually based on Tim Conway, and the figure at the time that was sold in his blister, a cowardly paladin, was based off of Don Knots. Who would have known? So I took these pictures yesterday quickly at lunch and posted them out where I usually do on Instagram, and as I looked at them, I noticed I had forgotten to paint something. So today's quiz is what did I forget to paint? To make it easier you can see it on the picture from behind. Hopefully I don't get now 147 other things that I forgot to paint, but we'll see. Hi guys, so here's a figure I just finished, an old Ral Partha Saturday Night Fever Samurai, who I'm going to go out on a limb and say he's based on John Belushi. Pretty straight forward figure to paint, and I wanted to give him more of a five o'clock shadow (thanks Patrick for the advice) but I just gave it to him where it was actually kind of sculpted in. I looked at a few reference pictures of John Belushi in his Samurai suit, but eventually went a slightly different route to give a bit more color to him. I tried to get a little bit of heat from his cigar too, don't know if you can notice a bit of red and yellow by the ash? Anyhows, I hope you guys all enjoy this little blast from the past!

Good evening folks, So here is one I just finished up, a really old school Partha Piece, don't recall her original name, but she's some kind of sorceress or Dragon Lady. Sculpted by Tom Meier, this one didn't have a year on the bottom, but I think this was probably sculpted originally 1977-1979 or so. I did the base as just one flat blue color, that as I look at it, I'm regretting. I might go back and do a little something with it. I didn't want to do a natural, grass and dirt base, because I didn't want to hide any of the dragon, who is not too large.
