Good afternoon, all your Reaperites! So just finished this one up and sun even cooperated for photos, a Cat Burglar, sculpted by Jim Johnson quite a while back, and now available at both Iron Wind Metals and Ral Partha Legacy. Been for whatever random reason working with some anthropomorphic minis, first a fox, then a wereboar, and now a Cat. Odd part on this one were the toenails hanging over the base, as sometimes happens, so made it rise a little bit above the base. So kind of wanted to give him a little bit of a Sylvester vibe, his sleeves might be a little long, but wanted his leg sleeves to be visible above his boots. So anyhoos, enjoy!

This fellow has been lurking at the bottom of a drawer or box for over 30 years.... I finally painted him up. It was actually a bit irritating somehow... I guess that's why he sat in nothing more than a coat of primer and a red shield for so long! Not sure the maker, maybe citadel? He is on a metal part for the slot base that helpfully says 'orc'. All this time later, I love him just for nostalgia and remembering my dad painting up all those orcs... and we never used the minis in play!

And good evening to all of you of the Reaper persuasion, So just finished photographing this guy this afternoon. This is an Earth Elemental, originally from a blister pack of three minis, this guy, the Earth Elementals Lord I painted a few days back and an interesting looking iguana-like Earth Familiar, which is on my docket next. This was sculpted by Jim Johnson and released somewhere in the nineties. Fun figure to paint, not a drop of metal, but all sorts of different earth tones. The only un-earthy tones are the crystals in his spine, which I painted blue. I wanted to originally paint them green to match the crystal in the Shaman's staff, but I didn't think there would be enough contrast between the grass/moss around the stones. The little iguana familiar will be next! Enjoy!

Tere Reaperlased! So here's another miniature from the days gone by, a Julie Guthrie Female Giant, originally in her All Things Dark and Dangerous line. This is apparently version two of the miniature. The first one I painted maybe a year or so ago, a more primitive looking hill giant lady, who has always been one of my favorite figures Julie has sculpted along with her female centaur Julie Guthrie Hill Giant Julie Guthrie Centaurs Anyhoos, here she is: and then afterwards a comparison photo so you can see her against one of her contemporaries, a female mage: once again, color choice was so hard and I have no idea where the inspiration for purple hair came from. I think it was due to the fact that she wasn't a earth-tone hill giant, but a little more civilized. And we all know most civilized women have purple hair. Anyhows, hope you enjoy!

Hello everyone! After seeing @Kangaroorex Grenadier 9601, Black Dragon, I decided it was time for me to salvage mine from the shelf of shame. Thanks for the motivation Kangaroorex. This model was sculpted by William Watt in 1988. Unfortunately, the one I bought some years ago had a few battle scars. It has a broken horn and a broken wing claw. Its main tail stinger and tongue were also broken. As a reference, the base is 75mm wide.

This is Grenadier’s Hippogriff, #138 from the Fantasy Lords series way back in 1983, now sold in lead-free pewter by Mirliton Miniatures, Italy. It’s well sculpted, with securely fitting wings. I wanted to paint something different from the common hippogriff colorings, something with a little challenge to it. So I decided to go with several black and white patterned creatures. The front end is based on an osprey, the wings on a hoopoe’s, and the hindquarters on a zebra, all somewhat modified to suit the figure and to blend where the shifts happen. Whenever you’re going to paint a chimeric model, a creature made up of the parts of other creatures, it’s a good idea to go look at real animals to see how their colors and feathers and skins look, and also how they blend into other things. If nothing else, there are excellent visual resources on the internet. Technical notes:

Hello fine fans and lovers of the Reaper Miniature World! So today I've got two figures to post. I'd do them together, but different sculptors and different genres. The first one is an old Julie Guthrie figure from the eighties, Woman Warrior With Two Swords. I think she came in a box from the range "the Adventurers", which was full of female player characters. So here she is: In one of Anne's podcasts, she was doing non-metal metal and I'd asked her about her base colors and she suggested more grey as opposed to a blue beginning, so with this figure and her metals, I started out with Rainy Grey instead of Ashen Blue which is what I normally use. I think she came out pretty decently, even though of course I'm never satisfied with my own work. Such is the curse of the painter.... Anyhoos, hope you enjoy her, a very fun and basic figure. One of the reason I like old school minis as I've mentioned before. She strapped on her armor, grabbed her blades and took off. No ladening herself with bags, sacks and knick knacks.

Morning everybody! So just finished this one up and got photos edited. I've had this figure for a while now, just finally getting time to paint it, he's Ral Partha, Wizard from Ral Partha's Personalities and Things that Go Bump in the Night series. One of the first miniatures of that series, and this might be the second version. There was another version with a shorter hanging cloak, and then one was done many years later, where you are able to easily see Tom Meier's progress over the years. This was sculpted in the seventies, in the infancy of Ral Partha. It's a fun miniature and this is just a huge and heavy chunk of lead. and then kind of little close up of his tomes: and this figure oddly enough at one point came in a gold plated version as some sort of prize. No idea why I have it, I think it came from when my brother was working at Star Realm, our local game shop. Sadly, as I was bringing him upstairs to photograph, he did a nose dive onto my basement, concrete floor and got a piece of his gold plating knocked off around his hat: Beyond that he has certainly seen better days with rust/mold or whatever happens to gold plating after 40 years or so. Hi one and all under the joyous Reaper spell! So I'm not sure who the sculptor is on this one but she's one of a set of three figures with I think some loot bags. The other two guys are some brigands that I imagine turned her in to this female captive instead of just being the run of the mill female. She's kind of kneeling in a pile of random bones and stones. Fun little figure to paint, hope you guys enjoy:

So here is my latest little group of miniatures, some vintage Ral Partha Elven Personalities from the Personalities and Things that go Bump in the Night line, sculpted by Tom Meier. These are pretty small figures, back when 25 mm meant that size. So they came out okay. What I actually like the best is the female's color of her dress, which is actually the Master Series Paint Bright Skin Shadow. I think it turned out kind of an enjoyable peach color. Biggest pain in the posterior was the buttons on the chick's "girdle/belt/thingamajig. I wanted to do them as jewels but they were so small, just made them metal buttons. Anyhow, enjoy!

Hello sentient painting creatures! So here's one I just finished painting and just got his base finished this morning and some pictures taken: from an eighties Ral Partha set of Julie Guthrie figures, originally called the Berserkers, with was a group of different types of fighters/warriors. Nice set, as is all of what the Goddess Guthrie creates. With this one, I also am using as a comparison set, because I also painted this one many, many years ago. So it was in the eighties, before 1986 when I graduated high school, so this painted version is of an age between 34 and maybe 39 years old, couldn't nail down an exact date exactly: I started out with the same skin and hair more or less on my new version, but changed up his wardrobe as to note make a carbon copy. The new figure was painted with Reaper colors and the old version was Polly S. Anyhoos, always fun to do these little comparison shots!

Hello everybody! Here's a figure I just finished a few nights back and got her based. She's a old, classic Ral Partha figure, Adventuress 01-018, so in that long list of Partha figures in "Personalities and Things that go Bump in the Night" range, number 18. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I read out there on the Lost Mini Wiki that this was the first female adventuring type of miniature that was cast. This is in all honesty the second version of the sculpt, don't have the first one. On the bottom, she had 1976 stamped on its base so it's a nice old figure. I tried not to paint her in too bright of colors, kind of wanted her to be able to wander around with kind of calm colors. Anyways, hope you enjoy this "historic" little mini, she was a joy to paint!

So I've actually been pretty productive these last couple weeks, and here is another miniature I finished up last night, an executioner, sculpted by Julie Guthrie back in the eighties. Pretty basic figure, very few colors, didn't take too long to paint. was lucky today in that it's reasonably sunny outside so I've got some good natural lighting going on. Not sure how happy I am with his axe, turned out a little dark, and I considered putting some blood on it, but in the end thinking maybe it's his first head-whacking of the morning, and hopefully he cleans it daily. With his long weekend I was able to paint quite a lot, and this gentleman was done pretty much all this week. He'd been sitting on a base primed for years, but he seemed to be a nice straightforward figure that I could get done quickly. So hopefully you all enjoy another trip back into our miniature prehistory!

Hello again! so here is my last Ral Partha Victim, sculpted by Dennis Mize, back in 1979. Once again a little on the disrobed side, so I'll give you just the face here, and the rest of her you can check out on the links below. With her, I wanted to paint her because I wanted to try to start working more on transparent clothing. So I started with her dress, but I think maybe incorrectly chose yellow as the dress color, which upon retrospect doesn't give enough contrast between her "fair skin" (the actual Reaper color) and the yellow paint I used for her dress. The blue blouse I think turned out better, more visually transparent. She's a tad out of focus with this extreme close up, but hopefully this will inspire you to see the rest of her in the links. Hello gents and gentesses! So today's miniature I'm going to have to show in edited form, as she's fully exposing all of her mammalian virtues. This one is a "female victim", from a set of the same name, sculpted by Dennis Mize for his miniature range "Children of the Night", sculpted way back in 1979. I always forget to, but I should have taken a picture of her next to some point of reference, because she's a small miniature, 25 miniatures instead of the 28-32 of modern times. Hi guys and gals, so I've been painting a goodly amount this last week or so, but it's been so cloudy I haven't been able to take proper photographs. Today was the first day the weather showed a bit of sun, so got some photographs going. Here is the first one I've been working on, the Drakonne by Bob Charrette. I'm about 99.9578% that this is based on the dragonne in the first hardback Monster Manual, with a slight consonant adjustment to avoid any copyright infringements. So looks lots of photos from lots of angles: Cross between a lion and a copper dragon as per the Monster Manual, so tried to do a similar color scheme. Anyhoos, more to come soon, just got to get the photos edited and made presentable.

And here is the second one I finished this morning, another Ral Partha figure sculpted by Dennis Mize back in the eighties. This one looks to be pretty clearly based on the Evil Queen of Disney fame. I didn't want to give her exactly the same colors, so threw in some orange into the mix. I think this is another Ral Partha Import resculpt. I added a close up photo, but realized afterwards there is a little fuzz or lint or something on the cloak, sorry about that. Adding it in anyway, sa I'm too lazy to retake the photos.

Hello guys and gals! Here is one of the minis I just finished this morning, a Ral Partha Kindly Old Wizard, I think sculpted by Dennis Mize. Sadly I forgot about the "old" part in the Kingly Old Wizard, and made his beard much more brown than a really old wizard would have I'm thinking. This is one of the Ral Partha Imports that Dennis Mize sculpted based on some old Citadel miniatures. So anyhoos, here he is, feigning friendliness!

Another figure finished last night, a Julie Guthrie figure from the early eighties, Fighter Mage with Sword, a set of three fighter mages that she sculpted in the good old days. Fun figure, pretty straightforward. His long scarf is apparently a millipede, also a nice little touch! Anyhoos, did him in kind of an oriental style, hope you all enjoy him!

Hello All, another miniature finished today, with my employer, we got a reduction in pay, but at least fairly are expected to work less hours as well, so I've got Wednesdays off, and have spent the day on and off painting amongst other things. Here is the last one I've finished an Aristocratic Lady, sculpted by Dennis Mize I believe as part of their Ral Partha Imports line that would have been taking the place of some other older original Citadel model of the same name. My original thought was pale skin and dark clothing but I ended up with just the opposite. I think she turned out okay. One of these days I might do an alternative color scheme of her. Anyhoos, here she is, hope. you like: and a close up shot of her face, not perfect, but still decent I guess: I was kind of thinking peacocky colors, but I'm ending up just green bird as I didn't do any of those blue and orange colored swirls anywhere. In any case, enjoy!

Hello again guys, so recently been a bit inspired to paint some old miniatures, ones that were nice and dark lead. Part of the reason for this is I want to get these painted before they actually disintegrate or get a lot of lead rot, so I'm going to be hopefully keep painting the few ones that I have that are really old, just to get a protective cover of paint on them, and because let's face it, they're basically just cool! So today I've got two dwarves from an old Citadel boxed set, whose name I don't remember but it was probably something like Court of the Dwarf King. Later when I get inspired I'll hunt it down on the Lost Mini Wiki. So they are two dwarves, a dwarf queen and a dwarf wizard/vizier/councilor or something of that nature. Took the photos yesterday afternoon and it was a little cloudy so the back view of the queen is little dark, but everything else worked out pretty well with the dwarf queen, I thought she had like a little mole under her mouth, which is why there is that odd line, because it might have actually just been an irregularity in the cast. Anyhoos, hopefully you guys enjoy these little gems from the past, Games Workshoppe before it was Games Workshoppe. As I find time, I'm going to be painting other great oldies as well, apart from all the Partha stuff I normally paint.

Hi guys, so I did a Ral Partha Houri a couple weeks back, where she had darker skin and beige/white garments. The original thought was make them semi transparent, which the first time out didn't work too well. I've got a few copies of this figures, so I gave it another go. So here is my latest foray into the past, a miniature that I've had for years and years and years and in a burst of inspiration finally got around to painting her. I've got a few other Citadel minis on my desk to as well that I hope to get to little by little. So she had a squished nose, so I had to rebuilt it with a bit of green stuff, but otherwise, she's the same mini that I've had lying around since the eighties: Hope you enjoy, more to come!

So I think this Minotaur may have been originally sculpted by Julie Guthrie, but likewise it might have been Dennis Mize because it's part of those Ral Partha resculpts that were won't with some of the Citadel miniatures back then. Anyhoos, fun figure, and didn't take too long to paint. It's my first minotaur, I must admit! Anyhows, enjoy!

Hello all! So here is another Ral Partha piece I just finished. I actually like this miniature a lot, even though the proportions are a little weird. The figure itself is a Houri, which I didn't know before I looked it up, refers to one of the virgins an adherent to Islam would receive after death. With her, I tried to do some kind of sheer or transparent fabric, but it really didn't work out like I wanted it to. One day I'll hunt down a tutorial on how that's supposed to work. I'm also not 100% satisfied with one of her eyes, but it's such a small field, short of doing it all completely over, it would be a bit rough to patch up, so at the moment I may just leave her as she is. I actually want to eventually do this gal in a few different skin tones. This version used Terrain Khaki as the base color, but I'd also like to do a tan version as well as a fair skin version. One of these days perhaps, but now it's on to the next miniature. Another interesting part about this mini is she was a "resculpt" of an older Citadel piece also of the same name. What I'd really like to do one day is get a hold of the original Citadel mini and paint her up as well. But in the meantime, here she is:
