  1. I think I've hit that point where I can admit, I officially have too many projects going. I have three figures in various stages of being painted (the orc, elf ranger, and a halfling PC). I have a full box of Cadian Shock Troopers primed with only one test painted and that one isn't even fully test painted. There are three kobold in various stages of being painted and modified. I found some plastic skull rings that are being painted to be used as shields. I think the kobold with the sword would look great with a shield. Last but not least I have a wiz kids miniature I'm working on for my wife.

  3. So I have gotten comments like this now and again: and again: so I thought I would start a thread to talk some about how I paint, because it works pretty well for me and maybe what I've learned and practiced can help other people too. How I paint miniatures is grounded in how I paint paintings, so that's what I'm going to talk about here. I have a series of WIP photos from a recent painting which I will use to demonstrate. This is the finished painting: "Nurturing the Phoenix", oil paint on wooden
  4. HIIIII ...! So, someone opened a FLGS someplace where I don't have to fight my way through stupid to get to it, and they have space and interest in hosting painting days! YUS! All I need is some more interested people and some dates/times when they can come down and paint. My schedule is generally flexible. Weekends alternate (this is a 'free' weekend. Next, I expect to be gaming. And so on). South Hill Games is the intended gathering point. They have a Bookface presence, but their real website isn't up yet (.. and I'm not sure I am allowed to link it when it
  5. Hi Everyone! I'm new here, though I have been a lurker for many years at this point. I used to be quite into painting and sculpting miniatures but took a break when I went to college and I want to get back into it. I've backed bones 4 so I figured I should start warming up for it! So, after a four year break here is what I'm working on: Any feedback or critique would be wonderful! Cheers, PR

  7. Hello! Long time no posting. I have been getting back into painting as a regular thing, so I hope to be here more often! Anyways. I hope I picked the correct category of the forums for this. So I have put together a group painting even during the course of Adepticon at the group hobby area. We are going to be painting a Fire Giant Queen, bones or metal. It is open to anyone and just a great way to meet other painters and see how we all interpret the same miniature. Just grab a Fire Giant Queen, prep her, and bring her. I have not signed up for any events oth

  9. my second attempt at painting a Reaper miniature? Any thoughts - not sure how light to go on the skin - or how to finish his facial features cheers Andy
  10. Hi all, In case you couldn't tell, I am trying to upgrade my current painting gear to something that gives me more capability to expand my skill base. One thing I have recently considered is magnification. I have heard some folks use reading glasses, and a few that use desk mounted magnifiers. For those that use them, what makes them worth it? (FWIW, my eyesight is 20/20, I am just trying to get closer without putting the mini right into my face).

  12. A while back my wife said she'd like to try painting sometime. I said sure and didn't really think about it, then tonight she said she'd like to try. Now I had just primed a bunch of miniatures a week or two ago, had I remembered that passing comment I would have primed one for her too. When I first got into miniature painting I bought a few bags of skeletons (kind of like the old green plastic army men but they're yellowish skeletons). Size wise these skeletons are larger than a D&D skeleton. I planned to use a few as large skeletons, a minotaur skeleton, or a skeleton statue.

  14. Artist Trading Cards Some of us are playing around creating hand-made Artist Trading Cards and swapping them via the mail. ATCs are hand drawn or painted cards using markers, pencil, chalk, ink etc, on standard playing card sized pieces of paper (or other materials sufficiently flat enough to fit into a card-sleeve). Technical details: Finished size is: 2.5" x 3.5" (64 mm × 89 mm) — this is the size of a standard playing card. This thread is for showing off the cards created for this exchange. Rules for this thread: The recipient should be the first one to see each card. Please

  16. I'm starting to get lost here, so I figured I'd make an index of stuff I've posted. Many of these are loaded with enough pics and text that they're almost mini-tutorials. Questions and comments are always welcome. If you don't get a reply within a couple days, find me on Facebook, or add me on Battle.net (Xumenicus#1118). The crew at Massive Voodoo set out challenges to their viewers in order to push our abilities past our comfort zone. This year they have two (2) Challenges for us! 1. Create a base using water effects. 2. Paint a Disney Infinity character. There are limitations in this challenge - like on the basing Challenge: the goal is to create a base with a
  18. Hello every body, this will be here not to show off anything amazing or impressive. Just something that took me five and a half hours to do. Nothing to impressive or anything like that. Its a fairly simple paint job for this old miniature. It has been sitting on my portable painting desk for many years now, and I felt like it was time to finally paint it. So I could use it in Dungeons and Dragons if I ever played a Dwarf again or just to use in anything with Dwarves in it really. With the new system of being able to upload photos straight to here from a device, it may be a little weird. I have

  20. Edit: AH this forum is so unlike what I'm use to I have no idea how to format this sorry! Double edit: All my text is in the pictures what is this forum even help im drowning in quotes and i dont know how to get rid of them So! I just started painting, like... a week ago at most? After a trip to the game store to buy spell cards for our campaigns (4, each with a different dm, of player levels levels 3,1,1,1) we noticed and decided to invest in minis. Since I'm DMing two games (one with players who are not coming back, so likely a dead game, and one thats ongoing) and I'm
  21. Hey all, I looked for a thread about this but didn't see one. Anyway, what do people prefer to paint, metal or plastic minis? I just started painting and have only done plastic. I've seen pictures of some metal ones and they seem to have crisper details. I see they offer both options for a lot of minis on the reaper store, wanted to see what people think? Thanks!
  22. I just got into miniature painting and decided to post on the forum to get some feedback and advice. This is only the second miniature I've ever painted. I'm pretty happy with how he turned out despite my lack of experience. I'm thinking of dry brushing his back a bit more for an even more intense frost/ice effect. I plan on varnishing and basing him as soon as the bases I ordered arrived. Any CC is welcome thanks for looking!
  23. A bunch of you enjoyed my recent thread in the Conversions sub-forum in which I did some conversions on my Shipwreck Revenant from Bones 3, (To see that thread, click here: Shipwreck Revenant Conversion.), so I thought I'd do a thread to track my painting progress as well. To sum up that thread; basically, I replaced the "face" part of the Revenant with a figurehead using the Succubus Queen (Sophie's Mom) figure from the Bones 3 Stoneskull Expansion. I also replaced the Tiki Head on the back with a section of mast and a ship's wheel, as well as reinforcing the harpoon arm so it wo
  24. So what's the least expected thing that you had to paint of all the miniatures you've painted? This evening, thanks to shallow details on some orc heads, I've been painting orc nostrils because the noses weren't showing up after the wash. Prior to that, I had to paint entire faces (the eyes) on some other boardgame miniatures whose right face pretty much didn't exist. I think highlighting orcling / snotling butts might be up there as well...
  25. Ok so early May kinda train-wrecked for me and my family so I really haven't had much time to write it up until now, apologies for the delay.
