  1. I have 99 problems but a painted mini ain't one. That sounded better in my head and I apologize for the unintentional grimacing I have caused. I noticed by happenstance (while checking my BGstats challenges) that today marks 99 days until the end of the year. What better way to initiate a painting challenge? I am throwing down the gauntlet...for myself, I guess. I need to get some serious minis painted out of my collection. Tonight I will spend making a quick foray into what minis I have that I think should be thrown into this seemingly impossible challenge. I will hopefully accomplish picking the first thing to paint...maybe even a pile of things to paint. For the sake of this challenge, "mini" is going to be a vague guideline. Characters, NPCs, monsters, terrain, scatter, small, massive, etc. - it doesn't matter. I will paint a bunch of stuff. Some of it may even turn out looking alright...maybe. Anyone crazy enough to join me?
  2. Bones2 Hatchling Beauty Pageant June 2016 - August 31st 2016 1. Paint ONE of the FOUR dragon hatchlings: 77271: Dragon Hatchling Blue 77272: Dragon Hatchling Green 77273: Dragon Hatchling Black 77274: Dragon Hatchling Red 2. You don't have to paint them per the color description, paint them any color you like. The base should also be painted in some manner. The hatchlings came with the core set of Bones II so anyone who bought the core set from that should have them, or pick one up from your FLGS (Friendly Local Gaming Store) if you like! 3. Post your entry by midnight CST on August 31st, 2016. Only post photos in this thread, any questions/comments can be had in the discussion thread here. As many photos per figure as seems reasonable, please try to post per the forum rules on photo sizes. If you decide to paint all four hatchlings, please just pick one to enter here so it is simplified for voting, but you can link to your show-off post for your other ones if you like. 4. Check back September 1st or 2nd and we'll set up the voting. 5. Have fun! A beauty pageant is just to give you a chance to paint the same figure as a bunch of other like minded folks. Whether you are a true beginner or have been painting for years, whether you are a master, paint only for tabletop, or still have a lot to learn this is a great way to participate in a challenge and just have fun. Hope to see your beautiful entries, hit me up in the discussion thread for any questions! Thanks!
  3. For the next pageant I'd like to move to Bones2, starting with the first 30 figures in the Core Set. There's a good variety of characters and creatures there. Who wants to put forth the first candiate for a pageant? I'm partial to the fishman 92617, or the priest 92620.
  4. Valentines day. The day I sit on my butt and do nothing... Not this year! I've decided I'm going to take the entire day to paint miniatures, and see if I can beat Dilvish for number of miniatures painted in 2015. (I finally have a computer that can hook up to a camera, so I can post pictures!!!) If I'm lucky I might be able to finish that town I've been building. Wish me luck!
  5. Reaper Bones Beauty Pageant Jan-Feb 2015 The challenge: 1. paint one of the following Bones figures. They were included in the Bones Kickstarter Vampire Box and should also be available wherever Reaper products are sold. Remember that the base is part of the figure and should be painted as well. Modifications are allowed. 77073 Freja Fangbreaker, Dwarf Sergeant 77072 Bailey Silverbell, Dwarf 77074 Dain Deepaxe, Dwarf 77075 Khael Stonekindle, Dwarf Wizard 89012 Lem, Iconic Halfling Bard 77164 Elliwyn Heatherlark, Gnome Bard 77167 Ingrid, Female Gnome 77165 Hellakin Goregutter, Halfling Thief 77166 Balto Burrowell, Gnome 77031 Cassie, Female Gnome Wizard 77133 Gruff Grimecleaver, dwarf pirate 2. (optional) Include a short paragraph of fictional backstory for your entrant. Be creative and have fun with this. 3. Post your entry to this thread by midnight CST on February 7, 2015. Anyone can enter at any time before this deadline. Remember, have fun with it. Try not to worry about "rules" too much. Paint the figure. Mod it if you like. Get creative. The following week I will set up a poll and entrants will be able to vote on which figure they find Most Beautiful. Please, no chatter on this thread, entries only! If you have questions or need help, please post in the discussion thread.
  6. It's time for another Bones Beauty Pageant. The theme this time is "Bad Boys." How does this work? Using the poll we will select a figure that we, as group, want to paint. Each participant will paint the same figure, and then we will compare them, beauty pageant style, at the end of the challenge. The first step is to go to this poll and select the figure you would most like to paint, You can make up to two selections. http://freeonlinesurveys.com/app/showpoll.asp?qid=387442&sid=khcte49w052aux3387442&new=True
  7. Painting Death Nov 2013 - Jan 2014 edit: The Results! The challenge: 1. Paint any Kingdom Death model. Completely open challenge, keep it simple or go nuts. No restrictions on basing or modification, but do restrict it to Kingdom Death models. The object is to paint up some KD in advance of the release of Kingdom Death: Monster. 2. (optional) Include a short paragraph of prose about your entry. 3. Post your entry to this thread by midnight CST on January 20, 2014. Anyone can enter at any time before this deadline. After the deadline I will set up a poll to see who wins the exciting no-prize. Because there is no prize! If for some reason we get a better than expected turnout, I could re-consider a prize of some sort. Please, no chatter on this thread, entries only! If you have questions or need help, please post in the discussion thread. If there is nudity (or borderline nudity ala the White Speaker's straps), please provide a link to your photos rather than embedding them in your entry post. Reaper is a family-friendly forum. Thanks! Thanks to Inarah for the format of this post!
  8. So The Inner Geek brought up an interesting idea in my Workbench thread. I've been needing a kick in the pants to start painting my Kingdom Death stuff, and Trystan can use a kick in the butt to finish painting his I hope we can get enough people to make this interesting. I think setting it up like the Beauty Pageant would be easiest unless there is enough interest to maybe solicit judges. One idea would be to group paint the same model, again ala Inarah's Pageant. Given the subject matter, the most disturbing things are out for the Reaper forums. Also, no T though I'm not sure where the line is for A, given there is some cheek but most wear bottoms of some sort (if we go the pinup route). Which is another consideration, I think we should stay away from the first release limited edition stuff and stick to general release, or maybe currently available models (which means mostly pinups). Looking over my drawer, and skipping models that fall into the aforementioned prohibited categories, here's my preliminary list of candidates (I have dupes of the 1st run saviors and TKs, if there's enough interest in those..): Female Survivor (not 1st) Forsaker (not 1st) Flower Knight (not 1st) Dung Beetle Knight (still available) Pinup Great Game Hunter Pinup Savior (yeah, Trys is almost done with this one) Pinup Survivor 54mm Pinup Twilight Knight Another route could be just painting whatever strikes your fancy or having people pick/vote for what they want to see us paint from our lists. We also need to look at timelines, taking care to avoid other contests. I'm thinking of running it fairly soon given holiday time is good for some of us to paint. Balancing not being strict about deadlines (eh, no prizes but bragging...but if we get enough interest I'll approach Poots) vs enough deadline to make us push through it. I'd definitely like to have one of these in my case when I hit ReaperCon. I'm really intimidated as I've never prepped or painted resin before, and I really hadn't intended cracking these open until I had been painting a few years. So I hope we can get a bunch of people to join in!
  9. Once upon a time, on an internet site far far away, there was an event known as the Brettonian sorceress beauty contest. You can still find old etchings and references to this event, in which sorceresses from all over the land competed for the title of Most Beautiful. I believe it is time for a Reaper Bones event. Are there sufficient interested sorceresses to participate? If so, will their guardians please speak up. If there is interest, this is the figure we will paint 77076: Lysette, Female Elf. This figure is part of the Vampire Kickstarter package. The challenge will be short dated, probably ending before Halloween. Comments? Questions?
  10. Here's what's on my painting table this weekend. This is the boxed set of 8 pirates that was available at Reapercon, plus Angelica Fairweather and the Mockingbeast, which somehow just seemed appropriate.
