  1. Yup another project, as if I didn't have enough on my hands. This will take a while, but I will start again. A few decades ago ( before I roamed this Forum) I created a Barbarian Army with Animal allies. I sold it and all I have left are these tiny pics that show only part of it. Also, this was decades ago so I didn't paint as well as I do today ( or at least I think so) Here are the old pics as appetizers, I will soon start the new army. Enjoy!
  2. Presenting the Business Penguin, a character from the game Etherfields by Awaken Realms, if he's going to meet his sales targets in this economy he's going to have to work his tail feathers off! *Cue montage* Kept mine very simple compared to some of the ultra-realistic versions out there, but I think he looks pretty snazzy. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  3. After the Northern Penguin aka Great Auk were hunted to extinction in 1844, the convergently evolved Penguins of the southern hemisphere continue to eke out their existence in the Antarctic. Of course, the reality of the north and south poles being totally separate worlds has never stopped people from making stories and images with, say, polar bears and penguins in them. Or walruses. (Or Pandas). Such as here at the North Pole where Santa lives, we also find Ice Golems using Giant Penguins as guardians on leashes. Sic 'im, Mumble! This is another mini from the Ral Partha Europe kickstarter "Wicked Wonderland" featuring the Evil Santa I painted around Christmas, and some other polar creatures. They are cast in metal, I made a 60x35mm base for them. Sadly, the christmas minis seem to have gone from the RPE webside. Maybe they are only availabe for Christmas? That still only counts as one, since they are connected and on the same base. Hey! I could've sworn you were tap-dancing just now! The three large penguins are from the Reaper Bones 4 kickstarter's Fan Favorites expansion, and released to retail together with the Dire Penguin as the "44104 Penguin Attack Pack". The smaller penguin comes from Reaper "02848 Familiar Pack V" and is made in metal. I painted it as a chick on account of the perfect size. And the Dire Penguin: Because, of course there has to be Dire versions of Penguins too. It craves your fish! This one did not want to be photographed against this background, and turned overexposed and invisible. We'll call it well camouflaged. I had to faff about with global settings in photoshop to make these pictures even viewble. The rest of the photos were unusable. I painted it for the Reaper challenge league's January three colour challenge: choose and use any specific blue, green, pink. together with white and black from Reaper's paint line. Mixing allowed, but only with those specific colours. You can see which ones I used in the picture. I chose to paint it as a kind of wierd Albino Penguin, and only mixed in a small amount of the green for shading. I did not have any other reaper black left, and had to use Nightmare Black which is a very dark blue black. I mean, Dire Penguin? That is some serious Cosmic Horror right there. Where is a Shoggoth when you need one to come and clean up? Featuring minis from: Ice Golem & Giant Penguin Ral Partha Europe "Wicked Wonderland" kickstarter metal - 44401 Penguin Attack Pack Sculpted by Jason Wiebe Bones Black 25mm bases. Penguin from the 02848 Familiar Pack V Sculpted by Sandra Garrity or Michael Brand metal 15mm base. The reaper minis are all available from reapermini.com These minis were finished on Jan 23rd, 2021.
  4. Just a quicky here, since I banged this guy out today as a gift for a friend who'd mother just passed away. We backed this kickstarter in part for this mini for him, so I figured I'd better finally get it finished up for him. Pewter mini, very cute.
  5. We are going to visit my BILs home next week so I wanted to make something to thank them. Fortunately his wife adores penguins so an idea was born. On the ice flows of the Antarctic the penguins fight a constant war of survival. But when things look grim and the darkest night seems to turn against them one penguin will rise above the others to smite their foes and have the way through the darkness. When she appears the others are driven to seek out the ancient battle gear, the location passed down by generations of penguins and like drones they come to anoint their emperor and dress him to do battle with his foes... On a side note, the bonsium in bones 4 is much harder to cut and I am afraid I made a rather large offering to the blood god of miniatures. Fortunately I didn't nick any of the working bits. Unfortunately it was close and I am going to feel it in the morning.
  6. Batman: Gotham City Chronicles - Mission 2 "Deadly Infection" has the Penguin and Doctor Death trying to do something evil while some version of Batman and two of his allies try to stop them. I'm not terribly familiar with Doctor Death, and I couldn't find too many good pictures of him online, so I just went with a zombie-ish look. The Penguin was also a little tricky, but for the opposite reason. He has been around for a while and has a slew of looks. Although I was planning on sticking to the Batman Animated Series as a baseline, I found the color scheme for the Penguin there a bit bland. Other versions of the Penguin have a lot more purple, so used purple for his pants, tie and hatband. And I figured if the Penguin wold wear purple, it would be Imperial Purple, of course. I didn't have much luck with his monocle, but its good enough for tabletop. Out of the available heroes, I painted Batman Year 100 and the two Robins. I'm not too familiar with Batman Year 100 either, but he seems a bit like a vampire, so I went in that direction with very little color. I took the Robins looks from the Batman Animated Series, pretty much. The Damian Wayne look with the yellow down the front I was particularly happy with. He should have more yellow outlining, but I decided to stop before I ruined it. And apologies again for the glare. I glossed these minis up before I decided to photograph them all. The next set will be better, I swear! Batman Year 100, aka Vampire Batman Robin (Tim Drake) Robin (Damian Wayne) Doctor Death (I presume) The Penguin. He was actually a bit more fun to paint than I anticipated.
  7. Painted up my Christmas familiars. I'm keeping the seal, and giving the polar bear and the penguin to my two sisters for Christmas
