  1. Here was my entry for the 16th quarterly Reaper Facebook Contest. I was honored to receive an honorable mention. There were dozens of fantastic entries. I wanted to try a white dragon coloration. I have Deathsleet in my queue, so this is a test run. His scales are Dragon White. The ventral surfaces are more of a bone color with Creamy Ivory and Linen White, with Sepia Wash. His dagger is a green NMM. His eyes are gem-like, not lizard pupils. The skirt completes the “triangle of interest” green color. I rebased him on a Micro Arts 30mm Sewer base. I h
  2. I received a package a few days ago of Russian 54mm semi-flat figures. While I broke down and ordered more before I tried painting any of them, I at least primed them, so I knew it could be done. They looked like they would be plausible to paint (though to a “nice toy” standard rather than a “museum zinnfiguren” standard), so I sat done this morning and cranked out this fellow in about 90 minutes. How flat are they? Being thin and plastic, they are very light, so I am thinking that I am going to have to order a bunch of 20mm x 40m
  3. Another addition from WIP completion. WIP Link here. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/91014-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-7-kagunk/&tab=comments#comment-1931906 I was going for an Ice Ogre vibe here. Being that he is likely surrounded by frost-resistant and fire-vulnerable enemies, I wanted his shield to be a fire weapon. This has always been a favorite model of mine from BONES I. I hope you like it as much as I do.
  4. This is one of the warband of Orcs from Bones I. I though all of these had a lot of character. I painted them up as light grey-green based on some of the Dungeon Dwellers paint sets. The wood grain inside the shield is freehand. Here is the WIP for the whole group. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/93235-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-12-orcpocalypse/ If I had it to do over again I’d change the fur colors, because they blend in with the chainmail. Here are the group shots. Enjoy.
  5. Here is the big boss of the Bones I Orc Warband. With all of these Orcs they are shadowed with a purple color. I added some green freckles/sun spots for a little interest. For his shield trophies, I included some skin tones and hair colors that could represent elf, dwarf, human, goblin and undead. The wood planks and boards on the shield are freehand. Kavorgh got a little extra love with the bloodstain on the axe. WIP here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/93235-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-12-orcpocalypse/
  6. Here is another of the Orc Warband from Bones I. He had a very bent sword, so I swapped it with one from the Bones III weapon sprue. WIP Here. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/93235-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-12-orcpocalypse/ And the group shot. Enjoy.
  7. Here is another of the Orc Warband from Bones I. WIP Here. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/93235-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-12-orcpocalypse/ And the group shot. Enjoy.
  8. Linked photos due to nudity. This was a quick paint job trying out the Golden Skin triad. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/gv67iiqzdbmkgnp/AABkN4rQVefNZkapQ8dJLibna?dl=0 I’ve never tried Dropbox before, let me know if it doesn’t work right.
  9. Here is another of the orc warband from Bones I. His spear was too floppy, so his spear tip is a weapon swap from the weapon sprue from Bones III. WIP link: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/93235-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-12-orcpocalypse/ And the group shot. Enjoy.

  11. I take pics during WIP. But I tend to take a year off between posts to Show Off. Link to WIP to follow. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/88595-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-5-deladrin/&tab=comments#comment-1884050 My model had a miscast to the right side of her face, so I just left it as an exaggerated shadow. I went with an idea for eventually having a similar ranger-y type with seasonal Camo on her cloak, reversible with black on the inside. This is the first. Autumn. The phone camera washes out my colors a fair bit, so I tried my best to true-up wit
  12. I’ve been going through BONES I mostly in order, doing several WIP. This was the next. I wanted to try to improve on my OSL so he got a green magic glowing gem. Still not great, but the idea comes across. Link to WIP. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/92763-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-10-satheras/&tab=comments#comment-1965284 I didn’t bother trying to paint his eyes due to the extreme shadowing...
  13. Another that started as a WIP. I was going for an East Indian skin tone. I find this figure curious for a mage, with armor and a spear. And strange scalloped shapes on her back. The color washes out the difference between the orange and yellow colors, sadly. WIP Link below. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/90829-darcstaar-vs-bones-1-episode-6-devona/&tab=comments#comment-1928602 Enjoy.
  14. Another quick and dirty. No blending in the skin/fur. A night’s work showing my son about painting fire. No WIP. Sorry the face close up is out of focus.
  15. Such a fun idea for a mini! But then you have to paint all the dragon scales. I was going for a more Asian skin tone. I tried to speed through this one since her sword was so bent. WIP link below. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/92275-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-8-janan-female-dragonslayer/&tab=comments#comment-1955669 Enjoy.
  16. I’ve been working on this dragon too. It has some serious lean. In order to try to address this, I cut the front feet away from the back feet, and from each other. I was hoping gluing the to the base separately would do it, but no! Still serious lean. I decided to pin the feet to the base, but as I played with it, realized the back feet, left and right front feet would all have to be at different levels. It’s now straight and erect. I had to chop and reposition the tail for this, or else the tip dipped below the level of the base. Now I need to sculpt gree
  17. Just pulled these out of the drawer. One of these Orcs was next in line on the Bones I Kickstarter Rewards image, so I’ll try to squad-paint them together to save time. They have been cleaned of mold lines. The spearman’s spear was very bent, as was the great sword. So, those got weapon swapped with basic weapons from Bones 3. Those are darker grey. Washed them, so just waiting for them to dry. Also had to gap fill spearman’s wrists.
  18. Starting up another, now that Janan is done. Satheras, Male Warlock. He had a really bent staff. On the behind shot you can see I cut it off at the hand, wedged a bit out and re glued it into a straighter angle. I also cut him off his integral base, since it had no texture. Hoping to try to get a little better at OSL on him, with a green gem in the staff.
  19. Brought some painting models for vacation. Finished the Hell Hound last night, didn’t WIP it. Had Yephima on my shelf of shame for a long time. If it ends up 1/100 as good as the studio version I’ll be happy. Plan on light blue skin and silvery hair, like the Bestiaries suggest. Other than that, not sure... Here she is primed with Brown Liner. That’s gonna take some work to get the skin tones brighter.
  20. Gonna start another WIP. This figure is bent, her hair is weird, and her features are MICROSCOPIC! So, I’m gonna kind of rush her. Trimmed, washed, primed in brown liner. No attempt to straighten her bend. The sword forms an S shape. Face was Terran Khaki, Faded Khaki, Amber Gold, then Splintered Bone mixed in. Then I did a half-assed lining and shading with a dilute mix of Dragon Black/Ruddy Flesh. Eyes were then done with Splintered Bone/Dragon White, and a Dragon Black/trace Ruddy Flesh dot. Had some nearly dry ?Red on the
  21. In my continuing effort to continue at least 1 dragon a month, here is my next entry, the wizkids gargantuan dragon. I believe I should name this one PanicusMaximusNecakus because this one presented special and exciting problems because the dragon has apparently decided to do the flamenco feather dance and his wings were a major obstacle when trying to paint the left side of the dragon's body. I realize the cause was because they were trying to get the dragon in the box but man was that difficult to work with. I wound up spending a lot of time with one hand pinning the dragon and the w
  22. my second dragon for the month. I didn't put a huge amount of work into this one. one of my goals was to see how well the contrast paints would work to bring out the basic shading and normal tone for the dragon hide rather than having to hand paint all the scaling. It didn't work too badly. I did wind up having to do some significant highlighting and I had to do some additional shading work on the underbelly but overall the effect was pretty good for the time spent. I probably should have done more with the wings but I just didn't have any inspiration for them. the sections were pretty s
  23. Here is the next project for “Try to paint all the things!” I plan to paint her as a very light skinned elf. I might try an Autumnal color scheme.
  24. Last new show off from me for a while. I finished him a while back. His WIP is here. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/87019-darcstaar-vs-bones-1-ep-4-kieran-tallowmire-wizard/&tab=comments#comment-1844494 I initially wanted to paint orange. That got me thinking of a sunset color scale. It came out OK, but the process was harder than I thought it would be. Also, I’m trying to go through old Bones faster, but this was taking too long! A shot of his Fireball scroll. I went with burnt out candles to avoid needi
  25. Hellborn Troll from WizKids' Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures I stopped at AC Moore today and picked up one of the FolkArt Pickling Washes I didn't have while my wife was shopping for school play costume materials. Nearby I found FolkArt Ultra Dyes and picked up two colors to check out; Purple Rain and Pucker Up (a yellow). I have enjoyed using the Glass Enamels with the long cure time before and thought these might work similarly. I decided to wash my troll with the Purple Rain to see how it comes out and goes on. It's fairly
