In February, I started work on painting up my next Dreadball Team. This time it was the Kalyashi team from Dreadball Extreme and the Warden. They turned out pretty well. These models were rough. Most were missing ears one was missing an eye. (Hence the one having an eye patch.) A lot of the armor details did not carry over from one side of the model to the other. This was especially true on the legs. You would start painting a piece of armor only to find that it disappeared on the other side. Overall it made it really frustrating to work on and I found myself just trying to get a decent tabletop quality. I tried the best that I could to make them look manageable. Not my best work. I will say that with all of my experience with Mantic, these models are a rare bad batch and not indicative of the quality that I normally see from them. Put your left hand in Put your left hand out Put your left hand in And shake it all about Do the hokey pokey and turn yourself about! That's what it's all about! Sigh. So I meant to get all these lovely Egyptian themed minis painted in October. In the end I only got the standard mummies done and the mummy warriors' bandages barely started. Looks like I already have my November painting challenge minis lined up. Completed pics of the rest hopefully next month.

Events over the last few months have kept me away from my painting table. Between a shoulder injury, a busy time at work, a loss in the family and a grandma who fell out of bed and broke her back, there has not been a lot of time to paint. I found a bit of time around Easter to do a quick paint job on the Easter Mousling for my Mother-in-law. Easter Mousling with freshly dyed Easter Eggs Close up I think that it turned out pretty well. The freehand on the egg was a bit challenging as I tend to be horrible at it. Lack of fine motor skills. I only have the one picture of it as I finished it the night before Easter and the only photo that I got of it was taken by my wife.

The last weekend of April I was able to finish some projects that I started way back in February. First up I have a pair of Bones Skeletons. I had used the two of them to test a couple of different paint options for a different project and thought that I would give them their time in the sun and finish them off. They are not perfect, but I think that they turned out ok. The photos didn't turn out great. I will admit that I was in a rush as I was trying to get these models finished and posted for the RP Challenge. I took the time to fix one of them, but I decided to just leave the others as is.

To finish off my resolutionary painting challenge for January, here are some Khornate ( chaos god of war/blood/death/skulls ) knights that I've done up for my very large chaos horde that may one day see action in Kings of War. If you're at all familiar with GW products, you'll see that there at least 3 different generations of figures in this unit. Additionally, I've done a lot of conversions to make the unit more interesting (I also didn't have enough bits to complete it otherwise). Hopefully, it worked. The whole unit ranked up: Champion (on the right) and 2 other knights; left side and the right side: Musician and standard bearer left side: And the right side: Looking at the pictures, I'm going to have to go back and put another layer of gloss coat over that banner, and then some dull coat to try and kill the shine on that decal. I apologize for the lousy pictures, photobucket and/or my camera is being stupid.... Questions, C&C are all welcome.

For once I think this mini looks better on camera. It is more blue in person. Still I am pretty happy with it. All the "black" bits are nmm. It gets better each try

When I first ordered the 4 identical figures I am pretty sure they were the only bugbear sculpts available. Somewhere along the line I decided to pick up the others as well. These will ensure I am not lacking bugbears in my D&D games for sure. However I would still like a ranged figure or two, and a shaman at some point. 77232: Mogg, Bugbear Warrior 77231: Rugg, Bugbear Leader 77233: Kegg, Bugbear Hunter 77015: Bugbear Warrior

I have to admit I like these orcs quite a bit now that they are painted. They painted up quick and easy. They are more shiny here than in person, but maybe I will use this as an excuse to use some of the matte sealer I got in my last order. They will do nicely for D&D, at least until my Shield Wolf Orcs get here 77056: Orc Sniper x2 77042: Orc Marauder 77059: Orc Berserker 77051: Orc Stalker 77064: Kavorgh, Orc Warboss

Here are my new were-rats! I wanted to have more than melee so I did a lazy conversion by grabbing some GW zombie bits with spears. I stuck a wooden bead over the spear part and filled it with supper glue. A little paint and viola not to shabby (for the table anyway). I cleaned up the bases a bit after picture time as well . I am working on a scenario with a cult of were-rats worshiping ZBP Abominarat. Should be fun .

Loved painting this one as well. It too will be making appearances on DnD nights. I am really pleased with the blackish armor I did on him. It is a great mini to practice blacks on, and I have one more to practice on still

Here's the leader of the loyalist element of the Luna Wolves. He's converted from a Betrayal at Calth figure, so I swapped out his weapons, and a few of his accoutrement as well. I also had to kind of redesign the head area, and I put a new head on him from another space marine. His collar didn't come out quite as well as I'd hoped but it does its job at least (hiding the ugly neck join).

It has taken me way too long to finish this, but at long last he is done. This is Orsa Stormbringer, the first miniature I had commissioned and sculpted by Leandro Ventic. He will be part of an upcoming Kickstarter.

I have not gotten much painting done this month but did finally finish this project. She was made using a Bronze Age Miniatures generic blank.

This is an old Medusa figure produced by Grim Reaper castings as part of their 'Nasteez' line. I grabbed her from the box of Good Will last round and decided to paint her a few days ago. The rock on the base is resin and is from Last Stand Convertibles. Table top paint job, as usual. The stone is supposed to be obsidian; the shine you can see on it actually isn't from flash/lights, it's painted on. Please let me know what think. So actually meeting one of the months goals for the Resolutionary Painting Challenge, I present the Graveyard set from Target Games. This is a nice resin set that I have had sitting around spray primed black for more years than I can remember. Frostgrave finally gave me the motivation to actually paint it. I forsee much more painting from me in the future as I am actually playing games now.

I converted a Fenryll amazon to create this Priestess of Set for Conan's world. The staff emblem is from an old RAFM minature, and the snake is from Reaper. I really like the RMS Olive Skintone Triad for Stygian skintones. The copper tones are built up from RMS Scorched Metal with layers of Vallejo Copper added and finally glazed with Tamiya Clear Orange - I love the rich tone that achieves. As she is topless, I have linked her here rather than post the image. I hope you enjoy her; she is probably my favorite of my recent works. Priestess of Set, front view Priestess of Set, rear view

"Then something swept down across the stars and struck the sward near him. Twisting about, he saw it—the winged one! With fearful speed it was rushing upon him, and in that instant Conan had only a confused impression of a gigantic manlike shape hurtling along on bowed and stunted legs; of huge hairy arms outstretching misshapen black-nailed paws; of a malformed head, in whose broad face the only features recognizable as such were a pair of blood-red eyes. It was a thing neither man, beast, nor devil, imbued with characteristics subhuman as well as characteristics superhuman." Robert E. Howard, "Queen of the Black Coast" I have finally finished this, done as the Winged One from Queen of the Black Coast, after starting it way back in October. I worked more with glazes on this one - every bit has GW Leviathan Purple in the glazing. The fur was the first part finished, and I was very tentative about trying to glaze after painting every one of those fur strands individually to pick them all out (after a light overbrush on top of the basecoat) - but I think it came out very well. I really enjoyed painting this, and picturing the scene from the story as I did!

More old school lead today; this one is an old Dwarven Archer by Grenadier, painted to table top as usual. He's a little small, so I may use him as a gnome. I hope you like him.

More minis to terrify players with! Originally I was going to leave them as pristine white marble But after staring at them for a while, I realized that they needed just a little more interest. So I gave them a bit of mossy weathering.

This figure is one of a set of 8 female adventurers that Ral Partha released as a boxed set many, many years ago. I have set (but not the box), and they were all painted up (badly) in my youthful exuberance. I came across them while looking for something else and decided to fix them up. This is the first one that I've finished. Since these ladies are true 25mm scale, they'll probably be used as halflings or gnomes. I hope you like her.

This little guy is from the Hell Dorado game. I'm not sure what he's supposed to be; I couldn't find him anywhere, I guess he's OOP. Anyway, I figure that he makes a pretty good goblin/imp/familiar. What do you think? Uh....blue goblin...Buglips isn't gonna be happy about this...
