  1. Hey! I painted the zombie strippers!! But, even though they're not completely nude, I figured I'd be better safe than sorry. Go check them out here Let me know what you think!!!
  2. Finished my first mini this year, and oddly enough it was a speedpaint, taking just over an hour... On the flipside, some of those colours work together really, REALLY well, like Sunrise Orange and Heart Throb Paint.
  3. Continuing on with the Febuary challenge goals I set myself, (painting at least one of each from the following categories: Reaper Bones, Oathsworn, All Quiet of the Martian Front, Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40.000, Kings of War, Deadzone, DreadBall, Mars Attacks, Shadows of Brimstone, Sedition Wars, Drake, Grendel Productions something or other, and to finish something that currently stands around half-done on the shelf of shame), I have done a few minis over the weekend, As per the resolutionary painting challenge guidelines, I will post them here, and link in my post in the challenge thread. Here goes for DreadBall: This is a DreadBall Extreme free agent known as the Avaran Treebeast, or not-Groot it you like. It is certainly not-Treebeard either. The picture does not properly reflect the many shades of colour on this one. I will have to look into making a better lighting set up for photos. I did the base in the same style as my DreadBall original, that is black with no texture. I am debating myself on whether to texture the base or not, if anything to cover those gawdawful gaps / filler marks that are evident on every single Dreadball mini. Seeing as the Restic shrinks in production somewhat and makes the disk that fits into the hole in the base too small, leaving unsightly gaps and whatnot. Because of the mini itself sticking out of it I usually have a hard time sanding the filler, and it is near impossible to get the base proper smooth as they should be. At any rate, I am not really satisfied with the look of the bases as of now. Maybe a layer of black, unhighlighted sand will be best? Ah, and the coloured /green edging on the base is to denote that this figure is a ...Jack. Oh. I have coloured it as a Striker. It is supposed to be yellow for Jack, Green is Striker (and red is Guard, like traffic lights). And there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth! I will need to redo that then. The front shows the three threat zones, and the back is for me the player to see what position it plays as without having to turn it around all the time to see what it is.
  4. For me, March is going to be Demons and Devils month.... Here are the 3 primed Barbed Devils from Mortal Arrow / Fractured Dimensions... Nice crisp castings, no flash, very little mold lines. Assembly was a little finicky, and putting pins into them was a chore.... George (Been sick for the past 3 days, prep work is all I could do.... )
  5. I got these guys done as my first minis for March. (Does this count as one or three?) I love them! I have always liked the way the ghoul queen is evil and pretty. But I love that the minion has an arm in her mouth!!!! Also, shameless plug, they're on my blog too! Anyways, I've been having some health issues, scheduled for surgery on Monday, so I may or may not be on large doses of pain pills.... Hope my brush control was still good!! C&C always welcome!!! Enjoy!
  6. The Al Fasid, also known as "The Corrupted", are HaqqIslam's heavy troopers that will get the job done no matter the cost. Their methods aren't always the prettiest, and they're never the stealthiest, and they have their own tricks they bring with them to the table. They don't care about glory, and are solely chosen for their solid record of getting the job done. Some enjoy it, some are in it for the solid paycheque, and others do it because the only thing theyy know what to do is fight. Today I have the HMG version, who also conveniently carries a grenade launcher that can shoot either regular grenades to keep enemy heads down, or smoke grenades to provide additional cover. Oh, they also pack anti-personnel mines with them too... Since the "tactical rock" under his right foot kind of looked rather strikingly like the backpack for a Yu Jing (even though I'm not having any luck finding models to confirm this), I decided to try and test out my planned colour scheme for them. That's right, I'll be going with a dark raver / cyberpunk burnt neon pink for their general colour, because why not - I'm going with hot orange for my Haqq...
  7. Please see the main post here for rules, questions and general chatter, while using this thread to keep a list of links to your show-offs or show-off related comments in a single post: A reminder to please adhere to miniatures posting guidelines as usual. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/84371-2019-rpchallenge-questionsannouncements/ All the information you need should be here. As a change of pace from the Hard Mode Challenge, this round will have a Skill Challenge. May and June 2019 Challenge Your challenge is: 9! Bonus Challenge: The First! "Mayday!" is an international distress signal used in verbal communication in ships and aircraft. Your first bonus challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to paint a miniature in some distress. This could be a diorama, an adventurer falling into a trap, villian whose weapon just broke, or anything else your mind can conjure. Bonus Challenge: The Second! The Solstices: June marks the beginning of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere and Winter in the Southern Hemisphere. Paint a miniature or a pair of miniatures showcasing this duality. Skill Challenge: OSL Try your hand at painting a miniature using OSL or Object-Source Lighting. If you feel like this is something that is already in your wheelhouse, work on your technical skills in another area. Practice NMM, TMM, wet-blending, sculpting, or anything else you've been meaning to try. As always, the game is made up and the points don't matter!
  8. Being that this is the figure that was the biggest reason why I picked up the Hassassin Bahram Sectorial Starter Pack (say that three times fast ), I was suspecting he'd wind up on my painting desk sooner or later... I just didn't realize he'd have the honour of being the first finished this year, as well as my first finished Infinity miniature! At some point in the near future I'll acquire some S2 holoprojector tokens for him, as actual 3D representations are nice. Not sure where from, but I like my current Art of War Studios things, so probably theirs. Oh, and for those who might be curious, that's a Global Evil Corp UniPod with two StairPods (well, one pack) in the first three pics, fourth one is a DuoPod with a StairPod alongside it. Sadly no magnets yet for the terrain, but they're on the way, and will get here at some point
  9. This is Peruhain, Elven Monk (SKU 3169, Metal) from Reaper. I am trying to paint up at least one of every main class/race combination.
  10. This is the female Firbold Druid (SKU SS30) from Oathsworn Miniatures. I think she turned out best of my recent batch of minis. Oathsworn minis have all been a joy to paint so far, and this one is no exception.
  11. This is Bombshell Miniatures Fa'o the Cat Huntress (SKU 10049). Fun figure, painted to tabletop standard. Another one off the partially painted pile.
  12. This guy is Gon'Tarr, Orc Shaman (SKU 3879) in metal from Reaper. I thought he needed a hat since his head was so flat. At first I wanted a bowler hat, but I didn't have one laying around so he got a fancy feathered one instead which suits him just fine. I decided he had been around a while, so a wily dangerous middle-aged orc (or half-orc). His face was hard to get to hiding under the hat, so its kinda a mess.
  13. So I was just about to check out my first Star Wars Legion game night at the lfgs when the whole apocalypse thing happened, so rather than painting my Imperials, I've been focusing on getting my rebel scum assembled so that wife (who is "mostly" interested in playing) and I can learn to play here at home. With that complete I now need to get some more Imperials finished so we can actually play, since I'm not attaching bases to the Imperials until they are painted. As my wife actually agreed to play this weekend, that meant I needed a commander quick! So I pulled up the FFG guide online to paint Vader and knocked out a decent tabletop in a couple of hours. Good enough and he already squeaked on a victory yesterday in our first game (he had one wound left). Now back to painting white armor to get more troopers ready.....sigh.
  14. This is the Reaper Bones Dire Bear (SKU 77494). This was another test of contrast paint, this time over a base of skin color. I think it turned out pretty good, and it was fast, which is always a plus when trying to conquer the mini mountain.
  15. As usual, the new format holds a "hard mode" challenge! March and April 2019 Challenge Your challenge is: 9! Bonus Challenge: The First! March 8th is the birthday of Ralph H. Baer, often called the "father of video games." To tribute these early games - paint a character to resemble an early video game character (Think 16-bit era or sooner) the more obscure, the better! Addendum: It doesn't have to ONLY exist in that era. It doesn't matter if it's the only incarnation of it like Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure or Power Pete, or originated but is on 5183 of the series (looking at you, Final Fantasy.) but the spirit is to that era. Bonus Challenge: The Second! Bringing back the classic for April, the "Fools' Brigade!" Paint a mini in a patently absurd scheme! CAV with a bullseye on it...elf with an "I'm organic" tabbard, etc. The more outlandish the better! Hard Mode Challenge! Ides Of March Famously known as the date when Julies Caesar was assassinated, March 15. Make a small diorama (or large, whichever) of such an assassination about to, or having recently happened. Characters and environment. This will be counted as # of miniatures + 2 base and scenery.) As always, the game is made up and the points don't matter!
  16. As has been a theme this year, the minis I manage to paint will all count towards the resolutionary challenge. As per the resolutionary painting challenge guidelines, I will post them here, and link in my post in the challenge thread. This month I am doing some horribly horrid horrors. Once upon a time I bought some monster miniatures in metal for Call of Cthulhu, made by RAFM. For some reason or other, I only ever got around to building and painting two or three of them. Well, I think I know why. They are in really hard metal, have horrible mould lines, and to top it off, the parts do not fit very well. To get them all well and proper, power tools and prodigous amounts of filling (and filing!) are required. Basically a real pain to prepare for painting. Needless to say, I recently rediscovered them in the ancient box of wonders under the stairs. Here is the Shoggoth: "It was a terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway train - a shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of greenish light all over the tunnel-filling front that bore down upon us, crushing the frantic penguins and slithering over the glistening floor that it and its kind had swept so evilly free of all litter." from H.P.Lovecraft: At the Mountains of Madness. 1936 I put it on a 5x10 cm wooden oval base by Warbases Those oval bases have proven to be quite the problem solver for several oddly shaped minis I have been wondering how to base. Those mould lines were so hard I would have had to put it to a grinder to get them off. And that would have ruined the surface details more than some lines do.
  17. Been a while since I posted a show-off....hopefully I'll be more productive painting this year. Of to a good start, I've already painted more than double my total for last year.... I've started painting up some of the Star Wars Legion figures I've been picking up from my lfgs for the last half year or so. I started with a unit of Stormtroopers out of the starter box. These were supposed to be a nice super quick tabletop paint job to get the year started. While they were a quick tabletop paint job, that quick ended up being spread over 2 months....hopefully I will get better at getting some painting in more often over the next couple of months. The whole unit. Standard troopers. Commander and specialists.
  18. Just thought i would put these up to show off the new party making their way through saltmarsh. A party of six graduates from the civilized lands, roped into fulfilling a debt by their mentors. At least they are working together... they arent my finest work but for 6 hours of painting, they will do nicely for our little gaming group and the group enjoyed the surprise of coming to their second session to discover they all had custom painted minis! we have a Halfling fighter an elven thief with a fixation for daggers a halfling bard the blue dragonborn priest of Protos the black Dragonborn warlock (had to create the head. I couldnt find a dragonborn mini with an 8 strength...) and a Human ranger from the backstreets and slums hope you enjoy them, i dont know how long they will last....
  19. Time to get the year started with a little space adventure! It took me about a week of spare time to get this fleet assembled and painted. Space ships are one of the few miniatures i find where less is more and although they look intensely detailed, there really isnt that much to work with. This is an enjoyable game that I wish i had the opportunity to play more often but, time being what it is, i am limited in what i am willing to teach people to do and I get tired of always having to explain the rules. Anyway, the Scourge are a bunch of nasty alien body snatchers who have invaded earth, forcing the remanents of humanity to go hide in the colony worlds to rebuild for the re-invasion of earth. They also have some of the coolest ships! These were done mainly with airbrush work except for some of the lights and engine fire. I started with the badger metal colored primer and then sprayed the front with plasma fluid ghost tint and the back with blue ghost tint winding up with a really wonderful color shift across the minis. The last piece is a leftover Aquan dreadnought from a game called Firestorm Armada I used a slightly different color profile so it would blend with both this game and the original firestorm fleet (okay i have a soft spot for spaceships. I just wish the games would play half as cool as they look!) This is basically a starter fleet consisting of three versions of the Cruiser class and 4 Frigates. That and as I said, the dreadnought for good measure! Thanks for looking!
  20. This is the second of my dropfleet starter sets. The fleet represents the United Colonies of Man (UCM). After humanity was chased off the planet earth and forced to scatter to its colonies to lick their wounds, the colonies united and formed an armada to take back the home planet. These ships are the final gasp of mankind to keep from becoming nests for a truly invasive species. the game itself is a little different from Most because battles are fought in nearspace around planets. The map is a planet viewed from low earth orbit and the ships can move from high to middle and low orbits, each having an effect on the ship speed and who can attack what. The game itself is pretty fast, a starter fleet battle will resolve in about an hour for us on the rare occasions when i get to play and the sides are pretty evenly matched although they have very different play styles. TTcombat took over the license this year and saved the game from fading away and have put quite a bit of effort into new miniatures and rewriting the rules to fix problems and make the dropfleet game compatible with its companion game Dropzone. now you can run a companion game allowing the two games to interact on a limited basis which, i think adds a lot to both sides, if you can find that many players... I decided to takes some liberties with these vessels. i wanted each ship to be distinctive and easy to spot on the game board so the grid pattern built into the armor of the ship, which is usually blacked out, i lined in white and then traced over with various florescent colors from Scale 75. The effect was not quite what I was after but it's still pretty good and certainly usable on the field of battle. The ships are a starter set of 3 crusiers (2 heavy 1 light) and 4 frigates. The base color is black with a midnight blue ghost tint and then highlighted with white and flouresents Hope you enjoy them! I certainly enjoyed painting them!
  21. So these guys are finally done! They got attached to their Secret Weapon Bases, I tried to make them look like some sort of blasted ash waste. So here they are! As I was painting, I saw the opportunity to have a little fun. It is something that only the older players are likely to get... (And of course, if my painting skill translates the image in my head to other people!) here is a hint: If you get the joke, please put your answer in a spoiler! Let's see how many people find it, and understand! Thanks for looking, and to all those that followed along and commented in the WiP thread! George ps, there is a little bit of flock dust on the black edges of some of the bases, that is because I was in a hurry to get these posted as I need to get to bed!
  22. #96 Baba Yaga: Baba Yaga, the Evil Witch of Slavic folklore, flying around in her Mortar, wielding her Pestle. Or maybe it's a massive Q-tip to clean out the ears of her chicken-legged dancing hut? I made a 25x35mm oval base and drilled a hole in the bottom of the mortar. I unbent a paperclip slightly and bent the long bit at an angle, and glued the end in the hole. The rest of the paperclip was glued flat on the base and lo! A flying mortar. I glued Baba Yaga herself down at an angle to make her looking more like she was sitting comfortably rather than squatting precariously. I am pleased with how the angles match up to make her look straight ahead. So now she can be, say, a mounted necromancer or other kind of wizard. In the KS this model was represented by a concept drawing, and the sculptor has done a good job of realising it. Regretfully, I did not get her Dancing Hut from the KS.
  23. I am churning out the Bones 4 core set PC-types just to get them out of the way before I can get stuck in with the more interesting monsters and creatures. Apologies in advance for my lack of photographic skill. I thought I had found a good setting, but clearly not for all. #93: The dwarf version of Xena: Warrior Princess. AiAiAiAiAi!
  24. I am trying get the -in my opinion- less enjoyable player character-type minis out of the way, which will let me do the more fun monster minis when finishing up the core set, hopefully letting me keep up the motivation to actually get the entire set done as I have wowed to do. #150 This Elf Barbarian reminds me of Final Fantasy for some reason...might be the subtle and understated sword-thing. 25mm base.
  25. Please use the full SKU and name of Reaper minis in the titles of your Show Off threads, per forum guidelines. You can find this information on the blister card or in the online store. I also like to give credit to the sculptor in a tag, so people can find their favorites. We have a high volume of posts generated from this challenge, which is great! But it's also creating a lot of work for the mods. Ladystorm has already urged folks to comply with these guidelines. As an experiment, this project has been moved to be a bi-monthly challenge again, that seemed to have worked so until further notice that is our format. The longer time frame theoretically will give less stress to painting, and allow more complex jobs, and more sinister challenges. FAQ Reaper only? - No. If going on vacation, can I paint a mini(s) ahead to cover that time frame? - Yes. Are speed paints acceptable - Yes. Can it be a mini started previously? - Yes. Based or unbased? - Yes. Do minis for exchanges count? - Yes. NEW RULE - Size Equivilancy (This list is subject to change as bones 3 releases) Medium and smaller = 1 ea Simple Terrain (plain floors, walls) = 1ea Complex Terrain (http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Terrain/latest/03518 or such) = 2 ea Large (Giants and the like) = 2 ea Huge (Most dragons, Demon Minotaur Lord, etc) = 3 ea Bigger (Kally, Khanjirra, etc) = half of quota rounded up Colossal ("Tianot,") = quota Due to the variable nature of a CAV I compare them against a generic 28mm figure and the Avatar large figure. I take height and bulk into considering if it is worth 1 or 2 figures. If it's not in this list, it counts as 1. (not yet updated for the CAV II figures) If you have a question on the size, please post it here, and I'll address them individually. Much like last year, the idea is to help those of us that normally paint VERY little or not as much as one would like, to start painting more. You challenge begins...now! And Our Mantra: Participants: If your name is missing, or you believe your count is incorrect, please PM me. Please note: to make counts easier, post in the bi-monthly thread and include the tag RPChallenge The objective: To paint 52+ minis throughout the course of the year via bi-monthly quota (each bi-monthly thread will have the quota listed as well as the master list) What qualifies: Darn near anything! Reaper/non-reaper! Any material! Shelf of shame minis from ages long forgotten! Exchange minis! Speed paints! Armies! (Though I'd encourage perhaps something outside the army as well) Any Size! Based/unbased! Etc! (I think that covers everything) Year long challenge Pick a miniature of size large or greater to complete in the Jan-Feb Block. In Nov-December, purchase that same mini and repaint in the same scheme to see direct side-by-side improvement or changes in your methods Jan/Feb: 8: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/84372-january-february-rpchallenge/ March/April: 9: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/85335-march-april-rpchallenge/ May/June: 8 https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/86376-may-~-june-rpchallenge/ July/August: 9: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/87162-julyaugust-rpchallenge/ Sept/Oct: 9: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/88521-september-thru-december-rpchallenge/ Nov/Dec: 9: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/88521-september-thru-december-rpchallenge/ Again, I request that when tagging your posts, please use "RPChallenge" to help with locating minis from this.
