  1. Again, an entry for a painting league at another forum. Susie and the Snow Goons! RUN! In homage and reference to the seminal comic strip Calvin and Hobbes. Here we have Calvin's instantly recognizable wierd snowmen, and Susie, his neighbor/friend/schoolmate and part-time nemesis in addition to Calvin and Hobbes themselves. Search for Calvin & Hobbes. You will not regret it. Calvin and Hobbes Susie. I made her santa hat in plastic putty. 50042: Townsfolk Modern Children Sculpted by Bobby Jackson The third child in the pack was used as Linus van Pelt in my round 4 Great Pumpkin Peanuts homage piece. 03668: Tiger Sculpted by Geoff Valley Obligatory size comparisons. Made by Reaper Miniatures Made in Metal 25mm round, and 25x50mm oval 3D-printed bases. available from reapermini.com The Slytherin one The Gryffindor one The Ravenclaw one. Also, a true Goon. He is coming for youse kneecaps! 03296 Monstrous Snowmen (3) Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Jason Wiebe Made in Metal 25mm round 3D-printed bases. available from reapermini.com The last snow goon is from Ral Partha Europe from their Wicked Wonderland kickstarter from last year. Suddenly swooping low On an ocean deep Rousing up a mighty monster from his sleep And walking in the air We're dancing in the midnight sky ... (from The Snowman, 1982) I used Warlord Games WGS-STG-10 Melting Snow for the snow on the bases.
  2. Short Wart's Cohort Mort Being a band of bony retribution soon to cross the Brandywine and come a-knocking on little round doors under the hills. Most of these skeleton minis are from the same second hand purchase where I got the zombies that were featured a few week ago. I got the incomplete undead mammoth off Ebay several years ago, and Short Wart himself is an Oathsworn Halfling Necromancer. All minis have been given 3D printed bases, most of them 25mm. There are a lot of pics beneath, although some are distictly unfocussed, as if a dark power did not wish to be documented...
  3. Yet another of my entries in a painting league on another forum Pride and Joy A nice walk in the park for the Lovecrafts. Sorry about the pics being a bit blurry, I am still struggling with the camera. It seems it is not meant for such small items. Most of the miniatures are from a recent 2019 kickstarter by Bear's Head Miniatures, apart from the large Star Spawn that is from the game Cthulhu Wars by Petersen Games. One of the kickstarters for that game had an option for one each of the miniatures extra, and this one is from that set. I hacked off the moulded base it originally came with so I could have similar style bases for the whole family. Lots of pics and such below, go on, you know you want to click it:
  4. Paintedfor a painting league in another forum: "Bring Out Your Dead!" I envision this as a wandering band who collects the dead. Sometimes they need to make ther cargo dead first. Being death warmed over themselves, they do not know what else to do with their unlives. lots more pictures beneath the click:
  5. The chibi smallworld minis are all based on existing normal minis in the Reaper lines. I recognized five of them from the minis I have from earlier Bones kickstarters, but not Arnise the female barbarian elf that I painted the other day. The reason being that the original was included in the Bones 4 core set. An older metal mini being redone into Bones material it seems. So I painted her in a similar scheme. The metal version is called Arnise, Elven Sergeant from the Warlord line, and represents the Sergeant of Almirithil's frenzied half-elven berserkers in the Warlord lore. Why hello there, you remind me of someone I once knew... B4Core #95 Arnise, Elven Barbarian from the Female Fighters subset in the Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Werner Klocke Made in Bonesium PVC 30mm base
  6. Plonking away a the Bones 4 core set, this is number 5: I am not a number! I am a free man! The metal version of this is called Ankoa, Barbarian Hero. He has a really small head compared to most of the other minis. I expect he is not too bright. Probably not destined to bear the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon a troubled brow. There's a new playah in town! Come get some! B4Core #5 Barbarian from the Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Bobby Jackson Made in Bonesium PVC 30mm base
  7. AUGH! The Great Pumpkin Came! This was my entry in a painting league at another miniatures forum. In reference to the longstanding Peanuts theme of Linus sitting alone in the Pumpkin Patch waiting for the Great Pumpkin to come bringing gifts, Santa Claus-style. It's a pity for him that Halloween is all about the scary...and the Great Pumpkin probably is not a very nice being. The miniatures are all by Reaper, the fences are from Mantic's Kings of War Vanguard terrain. I found the simplicity of the fences really helped to sell the story here. As one of the commenters in the LPL-post stated: "Less is more". Lots more pics, but yah gotsa clicks!
  8. The second of the superdeformed Chibi hero minis from the Bones 4 core set that I have painted, here comes Arnise the Elf Barbarian. Kissed by fire. I have no idea if she actually is meant to be a barbarian or not. Getting that much skin smooth is not an easy task, especially not by drybrushing. ...oh damn I forgot the freckles! Same height, different scale. B4Core#118 Arnise from the Small World Heroes subset in the Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Gene Van Horne (I think!) Made in Bonesium PVC 25mm integral, sculpted base should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future
  9. I admit to getting a bit more than just the core set in the Bones 4 kickstarter....but I have decided to paint the entire core set before tackling any of the expansion sets. However, there are also a bunch of add-ons to do. Most of those are rather large... but we start with some mid-sized ones: These are the "Skeletal Monsters" add on subset. A Chimera, an Owlbear and a Manticore, plus a heap of monster bones / spawn pile scatter terrain piece. Also there is a sprue of different heads to you can convert to other monster skeletons if you like. I am keeping the sprue of monster skulls in the bitsbox for now. The wings are in a much more rigid (and presumably more brittle) material than the bodies that seem to be in the more rigid bones 3 material. Chimera: I made a 3D printed 70x50mm oval base for this one. These were hollowed out from the top so the miniatures own base fit inside, with some putty to fill them out. Owlbear: I made a 50x30mm base for this one. Manticore: This one has a 60x35 base. The bone pile scatter terrain bit. I have a bone to pick with you guys... How I painted these: Black undercoat with white ink zenithal sprayed on. After this was thoroughly dried out, I painted Citadel Skeleton Horde contrast (yes! Contrast paint! It works like a thicker ink or stain!) all over. When this was thouroughly dry, I drybrushed in varying degree with several bone-type colours, both yellowish and whiteish ending with Reaper Splintered Bone at the very tops. Details such as horns, beak, teeth, stingers and claws in various black and grey colours I mixed on my pallette. Base in Vallejo Earth followed by some tufts and my autumnal flock mix, finised with black rims. All of them done from basecoat in an evening including drying times. Skeletal Monsters add-on subset from the Bones 4 kickstarter, 2017 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Julie Guthrie Made in Bonesium PVC should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future
  10. A bit of a departure for me today. Chibi, a style formerly known as Superdeformed before Anime became popular in the western hemisphere. I am not particularily fond of Chibi; that superdeformed cutesy manga look that has insidiously permeated the pop culture of today. Sigh. What is the world coming to? Now they also have infiltrated my beloved Bones... During the Bones 4 kickstarter campaign, they offered chibi versions of some of their existing minis as free additions to the core set as social stretch goals, adding them one by one as their target numbers for facebooks shares, retweets, tagging pictures or other interactions on social medias were met. The full six chibi miniatures did end up In the Bones 4 core set. As I am sworn to do the entire Bones 4 core set, I am honour bound to paint them all eventually...gah! So...I painted the chibi Sophie for starters. Sophie the succubus is the Reaper Mascot of more than 20 years, and versions of her have beed used for promotions and to mark special occasions since way back when. She has had figures in every Bones kickstarter. In Bones 4 she had this chibi and also a normally scaled mini. I went for the classic red devil look, with the opaque but shiny black eyes that I find most fitting for devils and their ilk. Is it cheating to do the eyes in gloss black? ARRGH! A giant-headed devil woman! She must be put to the sword! B4Core#120 Sophie from the Small World Heroes subset in the Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Gene Van Horne (I stand corrected by Mr Bob Ridolfi, Sculptor Extraordinaire himself :) Thank you, Bob!) Made in Bonesium PVC 25mm integral, sculpted base should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future
  11. From the Bones 4 core set, this is the subset called "Classic Horror", #130 through #135. A take on some of the monsters of the 1930's Universal movies series fame, with both male and female counterparts. I based the Mummy on a 35x25mm base as his integral base was both scenic and rather wide and I did not want to cut it down. The others are based on 30mm round lipped bases. Click for more pics
  12. I am slowly working through the Bones 4 core set. Today we come to #13, the Warrior of Chaos. I don't know what Reaper is calling this mini, if they even have a name for it yet. I imagine it would be something like "Bloodcurdle Angerpants, Anti-Paladin" or "Gruff McDuff, Evil Fighter". (Feel free to use these names, Reaper ) But it clearly is a Warrior of Chaos. This model has the look, what with horned helmet, bulky full plate, skulls, straps, furry shoulders, heavy cloth cloak and the tower shield. ...and I was going to put a picture of a chaos warrior from the GW webstore here for comparion, but they obviously did not want me to, so that did not happen. No matter. Did I say Warrior of Chaos? This is clearly a Champion of Chaos, what with such a massive rock to put their foot upon! Feet, even! I had to base it on a 40mm base. Champion sized at that. I have the higher ground! You cannot win! Also, I have a full set of Chaos Armour and all you have are tighty whiteys! B4Core #13 Champion of Chaos Reaper Miniatures, Bones 4 KS 2017 Sculpted by ?? Bonesium PVC. 40mm round lipped base should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future
  13. A large mini ragepainted sloppyfast in under an hour just to blow off some steam and get it off the tray it has been standing around for ages on. Well, large mini I say. Compared to most other dragons of the Bones kickstarters, this one is rather smallish. However, back in the day when heavy metal was king, this mini would be considered a large miniature of a dragon. pics below the clicks
  14. Please see the main post here for rules, questions and general chatter, while using this thread to keep a list of links to your show-offs or show-off related comments in a single post: A reminder to please adhere to miniatures posting guidelines as usual. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/84371-2019-rpchallenge-questionsannouncements/ All the information you need should be here. As usual, the new format holds a "hard mode" challenge! The Last quarter of the year 2019 because real life is a bugbear sometimes. Your challenge is: 18! Bonus Challenge: 1! Fall! Paint a mini that has fallen over (for whatever reason) (Pompeii guy works for this too!) Bonus Challenge: 2! This is Halloween! - Paint a mini using only colors that have black, orange, and purple in the name. You may also use the paints available from this year's ghoulie bag. Bonus Challenge: 5! Festive feast - Since both US And Canada have their Thanksgiving in this time bracket - paint up a mini (figure or terrain) to have some food being presented, if you can do a drinking vessel to be painting like a full glass, even better! Bonus Challenge: 4! For-lack-of-a-better-idea- December 15th is national Cat Herders' day! Paint a tabaxi, or any other mini featuring a feline. (It's a real holiday, go ahead, look it up) Hard Mode Challenge 1! Jack-o-lantern's light - Paint a mini where the only source of light would be coming from inside a jack-o-lantern. Pumpkin may be part of the mini/base or sculpted Hard Mode Challenge 2! Under Wraps- Paint a mini so that anything that any non-flesh (armor-weapons-cloth-etc) looks like it's patterned wrapping paper. This is assuming a humanoid figure. Dragons or such apply the same challenge to the whole body. As always, the game is made up and the points don't matter!
  15. This mini is called "Vorvorlaka" and is from the Bones 3 kickstarter, Graveyard expansion. I based it on a 30mm lipped base. The obligatory size comparisons... 77631 Vorvorlaka Reaper Miniatures, Bones 3 KS 2015, Graveyard expansion Sculpted by Bob Ridolfi 30mm base available from reapermini.com Here shown with Reaper 80068 Victorians and North Star's Pulp Heroes: The Film Crew sculpted by Bob Murch click the pic to enlarge
  16. Two out of three "Victorians" .These are from the Bones 3 kickstarter, Mythos expansion, and called "Victorians". The colour schemes are inspired by the "town walk" outfits of Mina and Vlad in 1992 movie Bram Stoker's Dracula. ...and for some reason these are in a smaller scale than most other reaper minis. 80068 Victorians Reaper Miniatures, Bones 3 KS 2015, Mythos expansion Sculpted by Bob Ridolfi 25mm 3D printed bases available from reapermini.com
  17. The Brass Bull. out of the Bully for you subset in the Bones 2 core set. This is a not-Gorgon from D&D. I do not know why Gygax would call this a Gorgon, since it really has nothing to do with the Gorgon sisters from Greek myth. But what it is, is a massive metal bullock that has a petrifying green gas breath attack. Even though the Gorgon is described as iron, in that it can be rusty, I did it in bronzey brassey colours. I gave it a bit of green around the muzzle to look like some residue from it's halitosis. More beneath the click
  18. nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-BATMAN! Another inbetweener, the Bones 3 Werebat this time. I had some paint left over on my palette (I do like dropper bottles much better than the dry-out-pots citadel uses, but sometimes too much paint comes out and I can't really put it back. More pics beneath the click
  19. The Dragonman something from the Bones 4 core set. This mini actually comes in many parts and with a selection of different weaponry and hand-held things. I went with the bucaneery sabre and dagger on account of the high boots looking a little piratey. Also, this is what the render shown in the KS looked like. I went with a bronze / gold armour and my new darker flock mix. Turned out well in my opinion at least. The base is a 3D printed 35x25mm lipped oval as I thought a 40mm round was too large. B4Core #16 Dragonman (?) Reaper Miniatures, Bones 4 KS 2017 unknown sculptor Bonesium PVC. 35x25mm 3D printed oval lipped base should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future
  20. This one has been standing around half-painted for a while. The rule 63 Drizzt Do'Urden from Bones 2. This model is quite nice from the front and back, but really flat from the side. Which is typical of originally made for single piece metal casting-minis. Your panther has made a mess of my carpet! Come clean it up! 77217 Mi-Sher, female elf with scimitars Reaper Miniatures, Bones 2 KS 2013 core set Sculpted by Julie Guthrie Bonesium PVC. 30mm lipped base available from reapermini.com
  21. These scenery bits are from the Bones 2 and 4 kickstarters respectively. I did them quick in my go-to rock paint scheme. An uneven coat of dark greengrey over a solid black undercoat, followed by a heavy drybrush with a sandy yellow, and finished with a lighter drybrush of offwhite. Quick and easy! The colours give a much more satisfying rock finish than just using the typical monochrome greys. Too bad the colours are not really showing properly up in the photos. On each end are the Pillars of Good and Evil from Bones 2, the rest is the subset "Grave Things" from the Bones 4 core set. The Pillar of Evil to the left, the Pillar of Good to the right. They are made in the older Bonesium PVC material, and as you can see it shows. No amount of the hot water trick is going to correct that warped listing there. I have not seen the metal versions so I cannot compare them with the Bones or even say that the metal ones do no list in the same way (though I doubt that they do.) I would have thought it be more fitting if these came as a pair of each and not just one of each, but there we are. They are sold as single packs in retail anyway. 77246 Pillar of Good 77247 Pillar of Evil Reaper Miniatures, Bones 2 KS 2013 Core set, Dungeon Décor subset Sculpted by Sandra Garrity Bonesium PVC. 30mm round lipped based available from reapermini.com These are from the subset "Grave things" in the Bones 4 Core set. Listing again! I was unsuccessful in trying to unbend the batty one as it bent back over time. Should have left it longer in the hot water. Oh well. Again, they should have come in a pairs of each. It seems Bones really is not the best material for boxes with square corners and all that...must be that corrupting influence of the Warp. This one is OK and untainted by the warp though. The loose books are a nice touch. Tiny glyphs and imaginary writing that looks much better (and way more impressive) when not magnified, as does most of my painting. The page is actually about 10mm wide. The black symbols and all that are done with .01mm and .02mm pens. klatoo...berata....nih*cough cough* Ok, then, thats it! *takes book, thunder rumbles* Hey wait a minute! I said the words! I did! B4Core #126, #127, #128 and #129 Grave Things Reaper Miniatures, Bones 4 KS 2017 Unknown sculptor Bonesium PVC. 40mm 3D-printed round lipped base on the statues should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future
  22. From WizKids' line of Nolzur's Marvellous Miniatures comes the "Treant", which is D&D-speak for Ent, or Treeman if you are more familar with Warhammer. I find this mini looks angry and scary, not like a benevolent living tree shepherd at all. A malevolent one, on the other hand, fits the bill precicely. And seeing as I have been painting undead halflings and there is a strong historic connection between Halflings and Treemen as allies; so undead treeman. Hence, Torchwood the Furious here. Go on, you know you want to go on:
  23. The next batch of little tykes off the 2018 TTCombat Halflings and Fantasy Friends-kickstarter: more pics beneath the click
  24. Mat and Pat of the City Guard. Or whatever Reaper calls these minis. So far the only names I have for them is Bones 4 Core set #14 and #15. STOP PRESS: Upon actually checking the internets, it seems that they are already available cast in metal, and called "City Guard (2)". A no brainer, really. They are quite obviously just that. I think I should have done the edging on the lower parts of the tabards differently, the blacklining did not turn out well at all. Looks better unmagnified IRL though. 'Alt raht there Guv'ner. You're not gettin' in 'ere dressed like that! B4Core #14 and #15 City Guard Reaper Miniatures, Bones 4 KS 2017 Sculpted by Bobby Jackson Bonesium PVC. 30mm round lipped base should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future
  25. In the grand scheme of things, this Ogre Palace Guard proxy for Kings of War Vanguard turned out to be a Half-Ogre Fighter when I googled it. Number 4 on the Bones 4 core set graphic, but no official code as of yet. B4Core #4 The casual, brute strength on display straight-arming that shield like that! As you can see, I had problems with the gradient on the shield. Not really satisfied with that at all. He is about the size of an older style Ogre. I rebased him on a 40mm round I printed out. The armour is thick, and the shield is broad. Weak at the neck, and under the arm ...and behind the legs! I wonder if the upper parts of the chest, between the plackart and the gorget, are meant to be bare flesh and not armour? It would probably look wierd if I painted it like that though. B4Core #4 Half-Ogre Fighter Reaper Miniatures, Bones 4 KS 2017 Sculpted by Bobby Jackson Bonesium PVC. 40mm round lipped base should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future
