Hi guys and gals, so I've been painting a goodly amount this last week or so, but it's been so cloudy I haven't been able to take proper photographs. Today was the first day the weather showed a bit of sun, so got some photographs going. Here is the first one I've been working on, the Drakonne by Bob Charrette. I'm about 99.9578% that this is based on the dragonne in the first hardback Monster Manual, with a slight consonant adjustment to avoid any copyright infringements. So looks lots of photos from lots of angles: Cross between a lion and a copper dragon as per the Monster Manual, so tried to do a similar color scheme. Anyhoos, more to come soon, just got to get the photos edited and made presentable.

And here is the second one I finished this morning, another Ral Partha figure sculpted by Dennis Mize back in the eighties. This one looks to be pretty clearly based on the Evil Queen of Disney fame. I didn't want to give her exactly the same colors, so threw in some orange into the mix. I think this is another Ral Partha Import resculpt. I added a close up photo, but realized afterwards there is a little fuzz or lint or something on the cloak, sorry about that. Adding it in anyway, sa I'm too lazy to retake the photos.

Hello guys and gals! Here is one of the minis I just finished this morning, a Ral Partha Kindly Old Wizard, I think sculpted by Dennis Mize. Sadly I forgot about the "old" part in the Kingly Old Wizard, and made his beard much more brown than a really old wizard would have I'm thinking. This is one of the Ral Partha Imports that Dennis Mize sculpted based on some old Citadel miniatures. So anyhoos, here he is, feigning friendliness!

Hello All, another miniature finished today, with my employer, we got a reduction in pay, but at least fairly are expected to work less hours as well, so I've got Wednesdays off, and have spent the day on and off painting amongst other things. Here is the last one I've finished an Aristocratic Lady, sculpted by Dennis Mize I believe as part of their Ral Partha Imports line that would have been taking the place of some other older original Citadel model of the same name. My original thought was pale skin and dark clothing but I ended up with just the opposite. I think she turned out okay. One of these days I might do an alternative color scheme of her. Anyhoos, here she is, hope. you like: and a close up shot of her face, not perfect, but still decent I guess: I was kind of thinking peacocky colors, but I'm ending up just green bird as I didn't do any of those blue and orange colored swirls anywhere. In any case, enjoy!

Hi guys, so I did a Ral Partha Houri a couple weeks back, where she had darker skin and beige/white garments. The original thought was make them semi transparent, which the first time out didn't work too well. I've got a few copies of this figures, so I gave it another go. I have one more of these models and a few other minis I could use this technique with I think.

This is the classic Lesser Golems set (SKU 11-416) from Ral Partha's range AD&D Monsters. Sadly that means they are no longer in production, which is a shame, since there was a lot of great minis in that range. Painting these 2 get my total painted this year at 33, so way ahead of my normal output.

So I think this Minotaur may have been originally sculpted by Julie Guthrie, but likewise it might have been Dennis Mize because it's part of those Ral Partha resculpts that were won't with some of the Citadel miniatures back then. Anyhoos, fun figure, and didn't take too long to paint. It's my first minotaur, I must admit! Anyhows, enjoy!

This Tembo spent the last few years half-painted on my shelf of shame. Finally I took the time to finish it. Not my best work, but at least it's off my desk. I am not really happy with the heavy drybrushing. Also the base was supposed to be reddish brownish but turned out purple. At least the highlights are more or less where I wanted them to be. I really love this sculpt though. It is an old Ral Partha Mini by my favourite sculptor (sculptress?) Sandra Garrity and it stays very true to the original artwork in the monstrous compendium. According to Dark Sun lore a Tembo is something like a psychic dog that steals and eats children at night. The earrings are a mystery to me. How on earth (Athas?) does the Tembo get to wear earrings? Who helps the Tembo dress? The original artwork clearly shows the earrings as well but gives no explanation. I have wondered ever since I saw that picture... So here it is. Enjoy! Hello all! So here is another Ral Partha piece I just finished. I actually like this miniature a lot, even though the proportions are a little weird. The figure itself is a Houri, which I didn't know before I looked it up, refers to one of the virgins an adherent to Islam would receive after death. With her, I tried to do some kind of sheer or transparent fabric, but it really didn't work out like I wanted it to. One day I'll hunt down a tutorial on how that's supposed to work. I'm also not 100% satisfied with one of her eyes, but it's such a small field, short of doing it all completely over, it would be a bit rough to patch up, so at the moment I may just leave her as she is. I actually want to eventually do this gal in a few different skin tones. This version used Terrain Khaki as the base color, but I'd also like to do a tan version as well as a fair skin version. One of these days perhaps, but now it's on to the next miniature. Another interesting part about this mini is she was a "resculpt" of an older Citadel piece also of the same name. What I'd really like to do one day is get a hold of the original Citadel mini and paint her up as well. But in the meantime, here she is:

Good evening gents and gentettes, So finally got another one finished this afternoon. I was working on him for a while now and got done painting him two nights ago, let him cure, got his base attached last night, and then this afternoon on my lunch break (working from home for the foreseeable future) got his grass stuck on and photos taken. So with this elf, I didn't want to just do him in either browns or greens, so went with yellows and oranges with some leathery colors instead. I also did his bow thinking of more of an ivory bow, so off white. There were a few other things I could have done with him, but calling him done. This one is a classic Ral Partha Julie Guthrie figure from her range "All Things Dark and Dangerous", from back in the eighties. Most of them you can still end up getting still from Iron Wind, so that is a plus. Anyways, here he is, hope you like him!

We were basically on apocalypse watch at work today, so I decided to take my mind off it for a little while at lunch with a speedpaint (60 minutes). Over the weekend I prepared a handful of Ral Partha individuals, inspired by my recent trip to Cincycon, so I brought a group of four with me today. I tried this guy as a warm-up; it’s been a while since I painted a true 25 metal individual. I wanted to use lighter colors because I usually tend towards dark. I hoped that the Heart Throb Pink over the Cinnamon Red would look faded. It needs more blending to stand up to be photographed at this level of enlargement. I’m also not sure what the extra layer of cloth at the right (but not left) wrist is suppose to be, so I painted it grey. I will post a picture of him based, hopefully tomorrow.

And here is another figure I just finished, a classic Tom Meier Elf Princess. This was from the Personalities and Things that Go Bump in the Night Range, sculpted in the eighties. This was the second version of this figure, the first one far more simple. Anyhoos, lots of flowers and she's a pretty small figure, so hope you enjoy the mini! She's not currently available on the old Iron Wind web site, but she was fun to paint just the same!

Hello guys, so here is a figure I just finished up yesterday and got her on a base. Not so sure where she is from, but am almost sure she's a Ral Partha Import from the eighties, but I could never seem to find any image of her in any old catalogue. Also no idea who the sculptor is, so if anybody knows, please give me a hand and let me know! Not too happy with the sword, didn't build up enough to white I think and still a little too blue, but in the end I guess I'm not going back, on to the next new miniature to paint. If I ended up being too persnickety, I'd never get anything thing finished, and I have a pending pile of thousands to still work on....

Hi Guys, another old classic from Julie Guthrie, part of a set she put out for Ral Partha in the eighties, Female Adventurers, which I imagine was their answer to the Grenadier boxed set that was also full of delightful adventuring ladies. This figure is a little nostalgic, because she's actually lead, back from the eighties, not version cast later in Rallidium. And as always, wasn't sure on a color for her clothing. I had the hair and skin pretty much figured out, but once I got to that point, it took a day or two to actually commit. Anyhow, hope you enjoy, a great figure from the early sculpting days of Julie Guthrie!

Good morning everybody and Happy New Year! So I actually had these painted since the very beginning of the year, but had to go out of town and couldn't get their bases finished until I got back. So here are my first miniatures completed for 2020, four lizard men that Julie Guthrie sculpted for Ral Partha if I recall correctly in 1982-1983 with her series All Things Dark and Dangerous. I've always really loved these figures and have had them on my pending list of stuff to paint, but finally got around to really painting them. I painted each one in a different color because I wanted a bit of variety. They did all start of though being covered by a good layer of Creamy Ivory (Reaper) and then I did washes on all that, and then afterwards chose the actual color and kept going. Anyhow, hope you guys like these guys!

So as the year comes to a close, this is my last miniature of 2019. I thought my figure from a few days ago would be the last but I got lucky enough to have time to squeeze one more in! This one is a Dennis Mize figure from who knows what year, but pretty old, and she was sitting on my desk for months already primed and ready to go. Somehow the inspiration took me and I started working on her a few days ago, and in delightful old class Partha form, her lack of additional dingly dangly items on her person made her a pretty quick paint job, just herself, her armor, shield, weapon and a belt. So got her done a few nights ago, got the base done last night. With this gal, one of my issues (as always )was what I was going to put on her shield, because I never know what to do, but in a moment of inspiration it occurred to me that she could use an enchanted shield to make up for her limited visibility due to her poked out eyeball that would have been under that patch. So I made the the opposite eye open on her shield and voila, I've solved her limited vision issue! So my total for 2019 was 60 miniatures, the majority Partha, but a smattering of Reaper as well. Did two Thunderbolt Mountain minis as well. Anyhoos, Happy 2020 everybody and we'll certainly speak next year with all next year with new miniatures to share! Mark

Good evening all! here comes another rogue, the male version of the female that I just finished a few days ago. For both of them I did the same skin color, starting out with Olive Skin, but then the other colors I diverged. I was thinking, much unlike the earlier elves and half-elves I did, that rogues would be more chaotic and independent and wouldn't likely dress so similarly. I tried to give this guy that kind of reddish hair that you sometimes see with Afghan men on the TV, the ones that probably dye their beards. Didn't just want a black or deep brown. Don't know if it turned out like I'd hoped, would welcome your opinions: And here are a few photos of them together: I also did different bases on them. Upon hindsight, I probably should have done them both equally, but oh well, too late now!

Hello all! So I just finished working on this little thief, from Ral Partha's male and female range later on, maybe in the end of the eighties/beginning of the nineties, not so sure. I'm working on the male version, but that probably won't be finished for a few days. So used Reaper's Olive Skin as her base/mid-tone color, just in case anybody's curious. I think this was sculpted by Jeff Grace. Pretty simple miniature to paint. The one stickler was all her studs. Anyhows, hope you all enjoy!

Hello again! here are two more Partha figures I've been working on, two half-elven Rangers sculpted probably by Jeff Grace way back in the nineties. I'd actually started painting these figures years and years ago, but the eyes turned out horribly wrong on both of them, so I threw them into Pinesol. Recently though, they were sitting on my desk and I got inspired, so started painting them up. They were pretty simple paint jobs, and once again, because I'm lazy, used the same paint scheme for both of them. And here they are together:

Hello again! here are the other two that I just finished, two elven fighters that Ran Partha did a while back. They had a couple neat ideas, one was to have a male and female version of a race and class, and these two are the miniatures that are for the Male and Female Elven Fighters. Not sure who the sculptor is on these, should probably find out. I did them both with more or less identical color schemes, partly in the thought that it's the same adventurer just in a different male or female version and then also because it made my life easier with one color scheme instead of two. and here they are together: Anyhows, hope you enjoy!
