So I don't know much about Battletech, more of a fantasy guy myself, but I do like these figures which are some Mech Warriors that were sculpted back in the eighties by Bob Charette that Ral Partha just recently re-released. They have eight per pack with different poses, and I got these first from the Liao Faction/Clan/Family. Going to eventually get through the whole group and I'll eventually photograph the whole group together, which is why I haven't based them yet. I've been told these are the pilots for the Mechs and it's very hot in the cockpit, which is why they are pretty scantily clad. These are eighties Partha, so they are some pretty small 25mm sized figures. More to come later as I finish them! Enjoy!

Good morning everybody, so here's a figure that's actually been sitting on my paint desk for probably six months I'm guessing. I got his skin and his white beard done, but afterwards all the colors to add on afterwards were kind of stumping me, so I ended up just leaving him sitting there for months and months. For some reason though after getting back from a business trip two weeks ago, I took him up again and finished him pretty quickly. I think it was a combination of color choices and some tight spots to get paint to that were putting me off. Anyhoos, I got him figured out and finished. I gave him some pink shoes, just because I wanted to annoy the cosmic color wheel, but when I look at it, his shoes don't even actually bother me that much. So I'm not sure if I was able to accomplish anything in an attempt to violate the holy color wheel or not. He's a Hackmaster Battle Mage, probably from around 2003 or so, originally sold on the Hackmaster range and acquired a few years back from Iron Wind Metals/Ral Partha. Nice solid figure, pretty good side and despite my earlier trepidation, a pretty easy paint job to do. Fronts and back at slightly different angles, couldn't choose the best ones so threw both sets in. So anyhow, hope you enjoy!

These guys are really tiny, from back in the days when the word "miniature" really meant something. They are based on 0.5" washers.

Hello everybody! Hope a lot of you are having a great time at ReaperCon, one of these days hope to go! So here is one of the figures I finished last night, a Ral Partha female fighter, sculpted by Bob Charette. With this figure, it took me forever to figure out what color I wanted her clothing to be, so after a long and painful struggle just gave up and made them white. Don't know if that's ever happened to anybody else? Anyhoos, enjoy!

So in all honestly, no idea what a prestidigitator is, and every time I spell it, I'm afraid I'm going to get it wrong! So just finished this figure sculpted by the late, great Dennis Mize I'm guessing some time in the nineties. She's a very simple figure, just a mage, some gloves and a dagger, so it didn't take too long. The longest part was of course figuring out what color to make her, which took a few days. In the meantime I did her skin, face and hair. I was kind of torn between green and red, and red eventually won. I really like how the photos came out. I tried taking them this afternoon at lunch, like I usually do, but because of some glaring problems with the miniature, a hair on her for example, and a bit of lint or dust, as well as a few imperfections I spotted in the paint job, I figured I'd try again tomorrow. I got home though and it was still pretty light outside, so I actually took her in the back yard and photographed her. I think the colors came out very vibrant with this in mind. So anyhoos, here she is, enjoy:

Hello everybody, here's one I just completed, a Ral Partha female adventurer, I think sculpted by Julie Guthrie, because it's from the All Things Dark and Dangerous range. Hoping the photos are in proper focus. I really enjoyed the fact she had a sling and that the sling ball was sculpted into it. Not overly happy with my metals on this one, but she'll do for now!

Good evening my cohorts in miniature crime! So here's another miniature I just finished last night and got photographed over lunch today. I've been on a dinosaur kick recently, I think partially inspired by the Lost Valley Kickstarter box. This one in particular was sculpted in 1982 by Dennis Mize at Ral Partha in his Children of the Night series, and excellent and gritty group of miniatures. I'm coming to realize that slowly but surely I'm painting tons from this range, maybe some day I'll have the whole range painted. Anyhoos, here is this one, a pretty large figure by Partha standards of the time, pretty much the size of a good sized wingless dragon: and a few close ups of his massive skull: I'm reasonably pleased with the results. I tried to stay away from just the greens and greys of dinosaurness, and went for hopefully some more brilliant colors. Tried to some some stripes patterns, and there really is nobody that can tell me that he wasn't this color, so I think Im reasonable safe in my color choices. As I keep painting more of these little prehistoric beasties, I'm going to keep having to do different colors. Still haven't done much blue yet. We'll see what dinosaur comes next. Hello guys and gals, So I had shown off the face of this poor lass a day or two ago, due to the fact that she had a horrible accident with a bottle of red paint and I had to repair her. Hello all, just finished this one up, a Ral Partha Children of the Night Megalosaurus. I told myself I was going to stay away from greens and grey, which is of course what this one ended up being. I threw some pink highlights into his mouth and throat, which started making me think a bit about the Joker. This guys is a dinosaur so he's a pretty hefty piece of metal. I should probably photograph some day a normal sized person to give a comparison. He's on an oval base, no idea how big it's supposed to be. Anyway, hope you like!

Hi guys and gals, two more figures from classic Rat Partha, these two are currently called "Beggars" but used to be part of a Children of the Night set that came with a seated old holy voodoo gentleman I painted recently. Here's the original set: and here are the two beggars: and here is the front of the female beggar, linked for an exposed female mammal part dangling about: Female Beggar, beware mammal parts!! I didn't originally mean to give the male beggar a black eye, but his eye was actually just a small little slit, and I was going to leave it as a dark link. So I did the line, then did the black eye, but after that, because I just couldn't resist, I tried to put white over the slit, and even though the white slit kind of took over and made it big enough for an eyeball to go there too, I think it came out okay. The two figures were pretty simple and they are rather small, being some nice old Dennis Mize 25mm. If I remember to, I'll grab the quarter comparison shot one of these days. and just in case you want to see the whole set, I'm sticking the little old drummer voodoo priest here as well: to show the complete set! Hello guys and gals, so I've been wanting to paint some dinosaurs for a while, so here is my first official one, a ceratosaurus, sculpted by Dennis Mize in the early eighties for his Ral Partha range Children of the Night. As always, the hardest part was to come up with a color scheme as I keep thinking "dinosaurs - green or grey" and don't really want to fall in to that trap at all. I've got more of them so I want to try different color schemes and patterns, maybe some stripes and spots and what not. This is one of the bigger ones I have. He's on a oval base probably for 50mm figures I'm guessing? Can't actually remember where I found the base, but glad I had it sitting around. As I look at Mize's figures from this period and with all his dinosaurs and prehistoric beasts, I wish he would have made some cavemen as well. He did some primitive-looking figures later with his Beastmasters, but I would have really liked just some shaggy-haired guys and gals to accompany all these beasts.

Hi guys, two more figures that I just finished, really simple paint jobs with limited color palettes and being animals and all. They are both sculpted by Dennis Mize back in the day and came from his Children of the Night series. I did the Hunting Cat in pure black with some highlights and for the Therapsid, I kind of wanted him pale, and unhealthy looking. He reminds me a little bit of a not-so naked mole rat: Pretty simple and straight-forward figures, didn't take too long to paint. The hunting cat really only took a few hours, and the Therapsid a little bit more because he was three colors. Anyway, hope you enjoy these little specimens of wildlife!

And my last figure from this week, a giant rat, sculpted way long ago by the immortal Julie Guthrie. I should have taken a comparison shot for this one, as he's really small, but you can probably guess because his base is one of those itty bitty bases I think used for 15 mm figures, not sure where I scored them from. They might have come with the familiars in some Stonehaven Kickstarter. Being that I couldn't take the Friday after July 4th off, because the rest of my department already had dibs, I ended up taking Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, as well as today and I've had some pretty productive painting mornings, so got lots done and this is another one of those figures: He's slightly out of focus but he's really, really small.. One one of the angles you can see a little piece of flash I couldn't get rid of. Anyway, enjoy once again! More figures in a few days!

And another figure from my pretty productive weekend, a were-rat, I think also sculpted by Dennis Mize, though not too sure, this might have been some of the Citadel Import figures that he redesigned. Anyhow, once again a very simple figure, a naked were-rat running around with a sword, pretty simple and straight forward! I always seem to end up painting rats grey, maybe in the future, I'll go brown or white....

Happy Fourth of July to all my fellow Gringos, and to the rest of the world, happy Thursday!! So just finished these two figures this morning, two old school Dennis Mize Children of the Night Harpies. I've had these sitting around at least since they came out in the early eighties and finally got up the gumption to actually paint them. I think the biggest problem with these was trying to figure out what color to paint them. I had painted one of these way back in the eighties, but never actually painted her wings, so just have a naked bird chick rising up in to the air kind of oddly, and at that time I made her green. This time though I got some colors figured out, and kind of got inspired by a blue jay and a cardinal, so at least the initial inspiration was there The Blue Harpy The Red Harpy Both Harpies together So anyhoos, another part of this set that made it a little easier was no clothing or metal or dingly danglies and one of the figures doesn't even have any visible eyes. So in the ultimate scheme of things some pretty easy figures to paint! Enjoy! For the fourth of July I give you red and blue, but didn't paint anything white, so sorry!

And good evening again! And quite in contrast to the other figure I just posted, this little thief is quite a bit more sensibly attired, covering herself up relatively decently I'd say. I think this is also sculpted by Dennis Mize, but not 100%. Once again, as per usual, my hardest decision is always colors, so used Terran khaki for her main skin color and kept some cool colors with her wardrobe mostly. The only thing that didn't really work out like I wanted was that on her boots she had laces going up them, but I just kind of highlighted them a little and didn't do anything with them, because her left leg is bent down so much, even though they were sculpted there I couldn't really reach them very well. Other than that though pretty happy with how she came out. She has sort of an odd vest that is open in the front and then ties closed in the back, but at the end of the day that's how she was sculpted, so just obeyed the sculptor! Once again, may she not be painful upon your eyeballs!

Hello all, another figure I just finished, an old Ral Partha figure, which I think might have been part of their redesigned Partha Imports back in the day. And of course, she's dressed extremely sensibly, as if she's screaming "you will NOT stab me in the nipple!". She was fun to do however, nice big face and a simple piece to paint. So anyhoos, enjoy!

Hi all! So this is my first posting since we got a new computer, so hopefully I can get the images figured out and in the correct size, et cetera. This one is my third of my swarthy skinned triad of Rap Partha figures sculpted by Dennis Mize. This is a Sorceress with Wand, another old figure probably from around 1979 from Dennis Mize's Children of the Night series. I had lots of "parts" to this little lady and I kept adding colors so hopefully she's not overly colorful. The last thing I painted was the crystal on her wand, and couldn't figure out what color to use. Eventually ended dup with reddish, magma'y or something similar. And with these old smaller 25 mm figures, I think I'm going to start getting into the habit of having a comparison figure, with the infamous US quarter I keep on my desk: So anyhow, that's the figure of the day for me, will be getting back to the old painting board to hatch up some more concoctions of color soon! And here's another one I did at the same time as my little witch. Also a really small figure, seated, and 25mm, sculpted too in 1979, part of Deniss Mize's series "Children of the Night". This little gentleman was originally in set called the "Voodoo Man Set", where he was a little voodoo witch doctor I think, and he had two voodoo zombies with him. The biggest problem with this guy was his eyes. He is so incredibly small that after I painted the whites of his eyes, I couldn't get an actual dot in there, so I ended up painting the whole eyeball blue. Not exactly what I wanted, but the eyes were also sculpted in such a way that they were very defined and you really couldn't get away with painting over them and still have them look okay. So not too sure about how that came out but otherwise, not too disappointed. I didn't really do much with the base, just glued him on, added some green stuff and painted over it. And to give you guys an idea about this fellow's size (or lack thereof) a comparison shot with a quarter: With him and his little buddy the witch. They got to know each other pretty well whilst sitting on my desk for a week.

So here is a small little mini that was sculpted way back in 1979, making the sculpt already 40 year old. It was sculpted by Dennis Size in the old Partha Days and belonged to a game that Partha had produced called the Witch's Cauldron, which pitted adventurers against monsters. I've never actually played the game some miniatures that I've painted actually came from this game. So here is the witch, to whom the cauldron belonged. She is a small little figure and crouched down to make her even smaller. The white hair has actually got some shades and washes in it, but you can't always see them in these photos. Anyhow, enjoy: I'm reasonably pleased with her. I was kind of going for Drow but not Drow. I really like the "Dark Elf" triad for the Drow, but I've seen artwork that shows Drow skin almost more like dark, natural tones, so wanted to give a try for that, plus I'm also painting two other figures with the same skin tones that just flat out have a more African vibe.

Finished this one up yesterday, got photos this morning: and these are old school Partha minis, so for a size comparison, these photos: So with this one, I wanted to avoid the blahness of a shield with nothing on it, so I tried a design which apparently couldn’t figure out if it should be a dragon or maybe a bull. Not so satisfied with it but it’s better than my hooded fighter from a recent post, where I just put o a geometrical pattern and called it a day. Anyhoos, hope you enjoy!

So here is the third figure from the set I was working on recently, a female fighter or ranger with staff. Nowadays on the Ral Partha's site, they just call her a fighter, but she originally belonged to a three piece blister pack of Rangers from Julie Guthrie's "All Things Dark and Dangerous" figure line. Being she was a ranger originally, quite the opposite of the Ranger Archer I just finished a few days ago, I tried to give her a bit more natural colors. And here is then the group together, and the original image I found from an old catalogue: So anyhow, fun figure to paint, hope you all enjoy!

Good evening everybody! So have been doing lately a lot of classic Julie Guthrie from her Partha days and the last one I've finished is what is currently listed as an Archer, but that previously came in a set of three Rangers in her Partha Line "All Things Dark and Dangerous". Being he's these days called an archer, I kind of deviated from the typical browns and greens as I kind of wanted some deeper, darker colors. I started off with his lavender shirt and then just kept going with different plums and purples. So he's not too nature-like but he's maybe a moon or night ranger. Anyway, hope you enjoy him! and here's that image he originally came from back in the eighties. I've got the two guys done, I'm working now on the gal with the staff, hope to have her done before Memorial day is over:

I am taking am attempt at Ral Partha's Ghost dragon. The box art does him in white but I wanted something different. I wanted to play with color making him red from the top down, blue from the bottom up but making the transition acceptably smooth when liked at from the side..Ill say up front this is not the easiest dragon to work with. Have I gone wrong? I would like some opinions on the roughed out paint scheme as well as some suggestions for the eye and mouth color. Originally I was considering him for a playful ghost but more and more he is looking like more nightmare than daydream And sorry for the pictures, I just snapped them off my (rather messy) paint station From the side: Top down Bottom up

This piece has been sitting in my mini drawer for quite some time. I'm not sure where it came from or why it showed up but it appeared and desired paint so it got some. I am thinking of making it the grand mentor for the legion of Justice and Caeke to counter the dread influence of Fatimus but we will see. In the mean time, I dont know too much about this mini other than it was produced by Ral Partha in 1991 for TSR Its pretty and it was fun to paint, but my google fu is not strong enough to find the name of the character and the base has no further information. So without further Ado, my dragon Elder
