  1. So definitely a work-in-progress, but getting very near the point of "I cannot look at this anymore without screaming," I present: CAV CITY! Details follow the pictures for any interested parties. DETAILS: This is a 4x2 section of game board. Full-size, my board is 6x4. I have enough road and buildings to cover the whole thing in a decently dense city section, especially if I throw in a tree-filled park, hill, or river. Buildings are blue electrical boxes spraypainted with "windows' painted on. Road is Styrene sheet painted with stone textured spray paint. Cars and buses: Ordered off Amazon - basically off-brand micro machines. Fun detail: only the buses are articulated enough to notice this, but these are UK-style "Drive on the left" vehicles! No idea how long this actually took to build as I work on it in my spare time, but I'll say that I started buying blue boxes in, I think, January. STILL TO DO: Road lines, a few more building details, and tidy up the edgework on the game board (you can still see wood in a few pics). STILL WANT: A bridge or two...that's about it. Otherwise, IMHO, it fits the bill for a futuristic / alien pre-fab city. An FTL ship jumps into system, dispatches a handful of dropships loaded up with snap-together plasteel and ferrocrete shelters, industrial rollers lay down pavement, and eager colonists are ready to begin their exciting new lives right up until they're declared collateral damage as a bunch of big, stompy robots smash them to pieces! Happy gaming!
  2. Finally getting around to posting this one. It's the last of the four CAV I agreed to paint before I opened it up to anything else I wanted to paint on video. Then again, very low views on these, so I might paint something else next. Who knows. Went with a brown camo scheme on this, so gave it a desert base. Didn't turn out too bad, and it's now up in the display cabinet. And here's the video, should you care to see:
  3. 94003 Razor is the tiny chicken walker guy with no arms. Store Link 94004 Assassin is a standard mech guy with non-symmetrial weapon pods on his shoulders. Store Link 94007 Wight is a big running CAV with square pods and long arm-guns. Store Link Also, having just looked these guys up on the kickstarter page they (and my Spectre from before) all belong to the yellow ankh-dagger faction, which is a nice coincidence in case the rules ever come out. (cough) Usual prep: Filed off (some) mold lines, boiled to straighten things out, washed with a soapy toothbrush, rinsed, dried, and stuck to bottles. On my last/first CAV, sticking some of the bits to the bottle was a mistake, it made it hard to paint, and especially went bad with the varnish at the end. To combat this, I switched from poster-tacking on bottles to impaling them on sticks. The sticks are skewers or something, for food I guess, but they work better for this than I expected. They originally had pointy tips, but I just snipped off enough of the pointy end until what was left was just a bit smaller than the peg-hole, so it would go in far enough to be held by friction. I can set it in the bottle (Weighted with coins) when I need to set it down. For the arms (and smaller sticks) I used binder clips, it holds it securely and I can set it down without it toppling over. I'm a little worried about it squeezing the peg too much, but I figure bones are durable enough it shouldn't be a problem, especially if I get these done within a week or so. Which is my goal, get these done before Bones II arrive. To 'prime' I slathered on a coat of unthinned Reaper 09065 Grey Liner. I think I'm coming around to the liners, they go on easier than unthinned Walnut Brown and don't seem to have a problem sticking. Not much to see just yet.
  4. Hi all, this is my first post on this forum and I wanted to share my progress on the CAV bones early bird rewards. So here they are: #1 Tiamat: #2 Cougar One is reposed in a more static stance. #3 Assassin #4 Razor #5 Specter #6 Wight One is also reposed (I'm not a bit fan of the running stance for those ones). #7 Halberd (in a quick and dirty speed painted camo) ************************* I also stumbled accross the templates to build a Hercules Dropship in foam core, and I knew that I had to make it. (It was a fun project with my daughter). Here it is fully assembled: And then with details added and a lot of airbrushing: I think it looks quite cool and makes a nice backdrop for my CAV: Comments and suggestions for improvement are welcome.
