  1. Thank you to Cranky Dog for the idea. Lots of people have been asking what to bring, expect etc. I figured it would be a good idea to list off what I'm bringing and why. PLEASE TRY TO KEEP POST LIMITED TO LISTS AND ON TOPIC QUESTIONS/ANSWERS Notebook If you're taking a class this is almost a must. Even if you aren't having scratch paper is great. If you get some one on one with some of the artist you'll definitely want it. Writing Utensils See above Battery Backup for Electronics The powers that be have mentioned that there will not be power available in the main hall. Since con
  2. Presenting my Lisa Frank velociraptor! I love him! He just screamed at me to be fun colors! And I have to brag n the green stuff world mushrooms, they're pretty fantastic. He's my painters entry for reapercon; I'm motoring on with all my other entries. I'm interested in what you think, so c&c away!
  3. I'd asked after last year's Reapercon who to contact about volunteering. Initially it was Lady Storm but when she retired it changed and I think it was @ReaperAHawk that became the new point of contact. Who, what and where do I need to send a request to help at Reapercon? Posted here in case others were wondering the same.
  4. Number 3! Frumitty is supposed to resemble Mort from Madagascar. Also, check out his pockets, HE HAS STRAWBERRIES! How cute is that? I love that Jason Wiebe took the time to sculpt little strawberries. :D C&C is always welcome!
  5. I just love this little guy!! I've been on a 'woodland critter' kick for a bit, and I'm so glad to have finished this guy. I'm working on a diorama for Reapercon, so that's why he doesn't appear to be based. Let me know what you think! C&C is always welcome and appreciated!
  6. https://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/2019/06/28/woman-killed-man-injured-shooting-spurred-parking-lot-fight-lewisville This is just straight up sad from every angle. The reason it gets my attention is that many of us have visited this location. This happened on the parking lot attached to the venue ReaperCon used two years running. It may have spilled out of a high-school party held in that same event Center. (That tidbit was in the TV news this evening.) (Btw, The URL title/headline was not as accurate as it could have been but I guess t
  7. Yay! This is my second diorama I'm finishing up for reapercon! This will be for the diorama category. I hope y'all like it! I'm probably going to add a plaque to the plinth...it look pretty naked... It's titled "Avenge the Fallen" I'm always up for c&c. Hope they make y'all smile.
  8. He's done! He was the last one, so glad to have them finished up! Let me know what y'all think!
  9. This little guy is number 2 of 3 posts for now. He was a lot of fun to paint up! His little spine-dies were fairly interesting to paint! C&C is always welcome!
  10. Hey, all! This year, I'm taking part in as many parts of ReaperCon's MSPOpen that I can while still narrowly holding on to my sanity. The first of these is a small diorama, (my first ever,) for Bombshell Miniatures. Since this is my first, I've decided to go with a relatively simple story: While venturing along an escarpment, a heavy-armored priestess is waylaid by a spinning, blade wielding half-orc. I began by cutting some foam to build up the earth behind the cliff face, and then used some plaster molds to cast the face and the large rock buried in the ground. Next, I covered ev
  11. At my recent IPMS show I had the honor (not to mention the absolute joy) of running a Reaper Paint n Take and mini painting demo. For this I picked several Reaper figures and the KDM Twilight Knight. To say the Twilight Knight fell apart early would be an understatement but fortunately I was simultaneously working on Remus Raducan, Blood Wolf and he worked marvelously as reference and inspiration. So here he is in all his NMM glory. Which is rather funny since I haven't tried the technique since Reapercon where I took @Kuro Cleanbrush 's 4 hour NMM class.
  12. Y'all. It's done. I've probably sunk about 40 hours into this, and it's been so much fun to learn some new skills. But I am so, SO glad it's done. ;) Enjoy! And let me know what you think! I'm seriously open to C&C. Thanks so much for looking!
  13. I decided to stop being silly and start posting my progress here. :) For this diorama, I'm using 02648: Schumacher, 03631: Quoralei, and 77511: Xiloxoch with some pretty heavy modifications. This is going to be a long post. Strap in and get ready! The concept for my diorama starts with me deciding what a swamp mermaid (or 'Meremaid) looked like. I got on pinterest and started looking around for evil mermaids, etc. I know that, historically, mermaids/sirens lured men to their death, but generally speaking people think more Ariel anymore. I didn't want that. I wanted someth
  14. Here is our current adventuring party for Iron Kingdoms. We started a new campaign shortly after Reapercon, so I was able to make use of several of the convention minis. This party is quite an odd mix of races. Lately, I've been quite fond of having a semi-cohesive color pallet for our adventuring parties. The last one I did was all in cold blues, so with this one I went for a very warm pallet. Lil is an investigator who 'secretly' is a Thamar Advocate. She's just the stock mini of the vampire hunter from Reapercon (by Bob Ridolfi) This Pygmie Troll is very fo
  15. Howdy, International Mini Painting Month - Day 7 Kev!
  16. Last night I took a painting lesson from a friend who happens to have won many awards for mini painting and this year won Grand Master in Lock and Load 2018. So for the model of choice we choose to paint the Reapercon Sophie. We both painted one and this is what I ended up with. First model I have painted fully in maybe 10 years. Gothic Sophie.
  17. I thought this year would be my last ReaperCon. Somewhere along the line, I forgot the joy of speed painting and just painting miniatures for tabletop quality that I can use for gaming, etc. Somewhere along the line miniature painting became something that had to 'wow' or be appropriate for competition. I rediscovered my love of miniature painting at the Speed Painting, Sophie Says, and Paint by Die Roll tables at ReaperCon 2018; having 45-60 minutes to paint a miniature was such an exhilarating challenge and I present to you my fun!!! Barnabus the pirate was a Paint by
  18. Reaper released a new miniature for each of the 4 factions at ReaperCon this year. This was the release that represented the River Widows: a woman and a big axolotl, both sculpted by Bobby Jackson. (I figured that "Cailleach" was Gaelic but I didn't know how to say it. A web-search says it is like "Kal-ee-akh". The diphthong "ai" is the sound in our word "pal", not "pile".) I put both figures on one 30mm round base, with a tree stump that I sculpted for her to stand on. I did an image-search for axolotl colors. There are black, brown, green, yellow,
  19. My 2018 CAVCon After Action report is finally here. After a couple days to decompress and process everything, I thought I’d jot down a few notes, share a few photos, and do a few battle reports as best I can. So I was able to attend Thursday evening, Friday evening, and all day Saturday. I live over an hour away, so it’s close enough to drive, but with two small kids and being butted up to Labor Day weekend, I wasn’t able to really attend all day on the two weekdays or Sunday. Had it been a non-holiday weekend, I would have taken off at least Friday, but as a teacher, four day w
  20. Whilst sitting in class with Bob and Julie, they asked us what we would like to see taught next year.. Then I was asked if I could post it on the forums... So here you go.... Try to keep it real.....
  21. So, trying to figure out what I'm doing for reapercon. I've lost my vallejo leather instructions in my move, so I'm not super comfortable with where I'm at painting new leather and wood. I have a few miniatures started that I could touch up/finish, or I could start a different new miniature... Here are the ones I'm currently considering: 1. Oathsworn Tiefling I really think she has the best face I've ever painted, and I'm really happy about what I achieved in her purple sash. But the rest of her, I'm a bit iffy on. 2. Reap
  22. So, how does one go about finding folks who are looking to split a room for the con? I'm gonna be able to go this year, and the forum description said this is the place to do it, but I dont see a relevant thread. Let me know if there's a better place, I guess? While it wouldnt be the first con I've spent sleeping in the bushes outside the convention center, Texas sounds hotter than CT, so I am currently looking to share, if anyone has a free corner they're looking to fill. So, let me know and we can talk money, I guess? Bonus points if you're flying in and we can carpool to and fro
  23. Hey all! Time for the 2018 ReaperCon Forumite Bingo! So, those of you who were on the cards last year, or got a card last year know how the game works, so you can skip the next paragraph. What is Forumite Bingo? It's a convention game I came up that is generally well received so I will do it again this year. The game is just like what a bingo game would be, but rather than calling out numbers to fill your card, you must go around and introduce yourself to members of the forum who are on your card. Say hi to them, and you can cross their box off. Once you've made "bingo", retu
  24. Okay, we do have some manufacturer awards for the Reaper Con 2018 Painting Competition. 25. Pretty late in the mini to start a WIP but I could use some thoughts and suggestions, in particular in the area of contrast. I am looking to bring up the contrast on the scales but I don't want to shift to an orange or pink. The skin shows a decent contrast but to my eye it's more orange than red at this point. I love the different shading going on for each scale type but I want more from the upper body scales without going into orange and yellow. My challenge to myself this year is to gel my reds to be red. It's not an easy color to work with and a lot of these paints are eith
