  1. This is one of a set of three armored cars, the "Specter Armored Cars" from the "All Quiet on the Martian Front" game. They are 15mm scale, said to be based on the Rolls Royce Spectre. I am painting them up for steampunk use. I think they are lead. They seemed pretty soft and bendy anyhow. They came in several pieces without instructions and it took a few tests to see how and what order to put the pieces together. The underbody chassis is just a little tricky and you can't put the wheels on until the rest is assembled. I left the turret unglued. It's on a post so it can rotate. I doubt I am going to paint them in any unified matter. This one just seemed to want to be purple.
  2. These are old Ral Partha sculpts from Iron Wind Metals. They are assorted deckers and /or riggers from the Shadowrun game, i.e. people Of The Future who use computers in a virtual matrix and puppet combat drones in the physical world. It occurs to me that decker miniatures are not much called for, since all of their relevant gameplay is in online virtual personas which don't tend to look like people and in an environment where mapping out positions is impossible, so tabletop gameplay with minis is ... a little diffuse, at best. So I wonder how much demand there actually was for figures of the "meat space" physical reality of the deckers, the people who (this is so '90s a vision of the future) carried big physical keyboards in their hands and had to be physically wired into the computer network, including physical implanted wire plugs in their skulls! I love these figures for their outdated vision of future tech. Also they are lovely little sculpts. Anyhow, I have here the elf man from the set 20-572: Elven Deckers - Male & Female; the woman (who turned out to be an elf) from set 20-524: Riggers & Drones (5); the human woman decker from the set 20-501: Deckers (3);and the orc man decker from the set 20-595: Assets Inc. I: Shadowrunners. At the moment I've primed them with Titanium White and washed them with Burnt Umber. The hair is only blocked in so I can do the faces; it will be elaborated later. I am still working on the faces, although I like this first one: Elves are supposed to be a bit full of themselves, so I tried for a haughty look. Speaking of an obsolete vision of the future, this one is wearing cut-off jeans. I'm dissatisfied with this one's face. Fortunately in-game there are prosthetic "Chibi eyes", so I can paint them over weird and claim that's what they are. This guy is full of personality, although you can really see how bizarrely retro the idea of the tech is. Yep, he has to lug that thing around wherever he goes because there's no way a portable computing and communication device could be made, I dunno, pocket sized. As usual, this thread may be sporadic as my painting time is almost random between art projects.
  3. Hey all, Been a while since I posted a WIP, but I'm working on one of the ReaperCon resin exclusives and I'm keen for some feedback. I'm pretty much done with the skin and hair so far, but I'm keen to hear what people think of it. In particular I'm trying to think more about how hair should be highlighted, but blue hair is maybe not the easiest to do that with. Also worth noting that the green eyes don't pop as much as I thought they would, but I'm not disappointed (at least not enough to try a do-over). Might have needed to add some white to the green. The yellow cloth has only had a single coat of base colour so far, to give me an idea of how it's all going to look, and the headdress, collar, bracers, weapon et al are going to be silver. Not 100% sure on what colour the boots will be yet, but my wife suggested making them silver as well which could work; any advice for painting metallic cloth would be appreciated. I kind of like the slightly Martian look that the base has so far, so I think I'll continue in that direction.
  4. These are two Itar's Workshop terrain pieces. The coppoer coiled steampunk-looking one is IWS-IND-003, "Engine", and the squared-off dark futuristic one with the inner green glow is IWS-IND-001, "Power Generator". There's a WIP thread here. They are painted with metallics and straight colors. Here's the power generator with an old Ral Partha Shadowrun troll to show the scale.

    Suspect #7

After a long slog of painting, I have finally finished up my unit of Suspect #7 from Relic Knights. I think she has the coolest story in the whole Relic Knights universe - apparently she teamed up with herself from several different alternate dimensions to do ninja-y mission; she has been confirmed dead six different times, thus the #7 part of the name. I decided to paint each of them in a different scheme, and ended up with purple, gray and red. The swords are all NMM, and while I got the blends done pretty well, I'm not sure I got the placement right. They are all just a straight gradient from Pure White to Blue Liner. I didn't think I'd ever seriously use Breast Cancer Awareness Pink, but it made a nice contrasting color to the purple. The white socks also have a bit of that color mixed in. These models were some of the worst I've dealt with from the Relic Knights line. The poses are a bit awkward and only have one connection point with the figure leaning way over; the detail is pretty bad; and there was a giant mold line running right through the side of their faces. The one with the Hannya mask is an awesome design, even if the execution is flawed. The unit is supposed to be pretty good in the game though, so I'm looking forward to trying them out.
  6. I realized I hadn't posted all the old Shadowrun Ral Partha figures I painted last year. This is an ork woman street samurai. Like all old Parthas, her base is integral and pre-sculpted. I think I prefer the new Shadowrun aesthetic, where even orks can be kind of cute. This one is pretty grotesque. The rest of the Shadowrun pieces I painted at the same time are Reaper's own Caine, Cyber-Troll, a Troll woman from Wolfram's Gang, a Wolfram's gang troll with tattoos, an Oni bouncer, a cyber-troll in reflective armor, and the marvelously over-the-top Lord Torgo.
  7. This was one of several old Ral Partha Shadowrun figures I painted recently. I liked this one because he was just bizarre. He's sold as a troll bouncer. He's clearly based on classic Japanese oni, so I painted him up like one. The paint is all matte; the effects on the back of the hair are paint, not shine. Other Shadowrunners painted at the same time include: Reaper's own Caine, Cyber-Troll, a Troll woman from Wolfram's Gang, a Wolfram's gang troll with tattoos, an ork woman street samurai, a cyber troll with reflective armor, and the unbelievably over-the-top Lord Torgo.
  8. This is one of several old Ral Partha (now Iron Wind Metals) Shadowrun sculpts I've painted recently. She is one of three cybertroll figures in the set 20-563, "Wolfram's Gang". I deliberately painted her up in some of the colors of 'eighties fashions. I painted other cyber-trolls at the same time: Reaper's 50287: Caine, Cyber-Troll, Ral Partha's Lord Torgo, another member of "Wolfram's Gang" who I painted up all tattooed, an Oni bouncer, a cyber-troll in reflective armor, and an ork woman street samurai. The WIP thread for all of them and several more is here.
  9. This is Reaper's 50287: Caine, Cyber-Troll, a design-your-own mini designed by Wayne Reynolds and sculpted by Bobby Jackson. It came in two parts, which fitted together neatly at his wrists and the shoulder point of the strap. They were rather bulky and I felt better using pins to hold them together. The base supplied was too small for Caine's wide stance, but I hear Reaper is working on that. Meanwhile I used a larger round base and painted it up to look like asphalt. The WIP thread (which also includes a number of old school Ral Partha Shadowrun figures) is here. Show-off threads for the other Shadowrun figures are: a Troll woman from Wolfram's Gang, a Wolfram's gang troll with tattoos, an ork woman street samurai, an Oni bouncer, a cyber-troll in reflective armor, and the unbelievably over-the-top Lord Torgo. You can see the entire squadron of cyber trolls on Jasper the 2nd's Spaceship Superstar - Squad Entries thread.
  10. I've been going back and forth over starting a WIP for these because I've been noodling on them for a while and they're pretty far along. But hey. Perhaps this will be an incentive to get cracking and finish them. These are some official and unofficial Shadowrun figures, cyberpunk biggish humanoids, Reaper's 50287: Caine, Cyber-Troll, and a couple of trolls and an ork from Ral Partha, currently available from Iron Wind Metals (there's another ork, a decker, in this WIP). They're big. They're futuristic (for a particularly 1980s vision of the future). They're tech and camp and fun. I am trying to do Reaper's cybertroll in red and green without making him look too Christmasy. I am still pretty new to pinning; his hands and gun are still separate. This is an old Ral Partha cybertroll. I am trying to do some object-source-lighting on him, as if he were in shiny armor in the city at night, with orangeish city lights reflected from the cloud cover above and different colored lights from different directions. At the moment he looks pretty awful. I used the colors of 'eighties fashions on the female troll, which my have been a bit mean. This is as far as I know Ral Partha's -- indeed, anybody's -- only female Shadowrun ork. She is, let's face it, grotesque. I like the newest Shadowrun edition's illustrations of actually attractive orks, but so far there's no figures like that available. This is Lord Torgo, a particularly nasty troll character from the Shadowrun universe. He's pretty over the top. There is a chain which goes between his hands and a rifle and axe for his back which I haven't glued on yet.
  11. This is one of my favorite Infinity minis. He's a lot bigger than most "human" minis in the game since he is the result of an project to make a living Tactical Armored Gear.
  12. Next year's Reapercon will have a retro sci fi theme. I thought I'd start a thread to gather helpful and useful tips and hints for costuming ideas. Here's something (mildly edited) I posted on the 2014 Reapercon Cosplay thread: I was in Jo-Ann fabrics earlier today and found something cool and sci fi looking. It's metallic-look flexible mesh tubing, about 8mm in diameter, intended for flower arranging (I gather you loop it around, or something, with the flowers). It's super flexible and super lightweight and comes in 20 yard packages for about five bucks. It comes in various metallic colors and iridescent white, although I gravitated towards straight silver. I imagine it snaking all over a retro astronaut outfit. It's more delicate, and more showy, than the flexible plastic tubing I found at the hardware store (which is meant to hold multiple computer cords together and also looks pretty cool and astronauty).
  13. Okay, So the crew is back together for a new campaign. The guy running chose Traveller. So I need a new fig. My guy was 7 terms navy, with a frozen watch mishap and a bad aging roll in the 5th term. Taking hits to Str, Dex and End. He muster out a Capt, age 42. I see him with a cane or leg braces from the frozen watch incident, military bearing but not necessarily in uniform. Any Ideas for a fig would be great, if its from a line other than Reaper that would be fine with me, but Reaper is always my go to fig producer.

  15. One of three Judges I got done today, here's Judge DeMarco: I think I managed to get the hair kind of right, not quite perfect but close enough. I considered trying to do some freckles, but even with the tips in the painting advice thread I'm not confident enough to try and pull it off.
  16. One of three Judges done today, Judge Giant: Boy, it took a while to get the skin tone right on this one. I haven't painted a lot of African skin tones, which makes me feel a little bit racist. But I think I got there in the end, or at least somewhere in the right direction.
  17. This is the best offically BBC sanctioned fan-made video of clips from Doctor Who I've ever seen. It's by someone called Babelcolour. There is literally something from every episode through 2011 (yes, even the lost ones). The music is a witty mix of the Doctor Who theme and "Sweet Dreams Are Made of This" (they call it "Whorythmics"). And the sound clips are marvelous. EDIT: My link was wonky. Please scroll down to post #3, where Argentee kindly put in a working link. The link may be a little funny. My ipad refuses to let me watch Youtube on Safari, instantly bouncing me to a special Youtube app which will not let me copy the web address of where to get it. But I got to this video by first linking to its comments page, which seems to have bypassed that particular annoying feature, at least temporarily. Until I tried to reload the window, whereupon I had to play "Load Safari and try to close that window in the split second before it loads the Youtube app instead. Close Youtube and repeat until you are fast enough." I hate the ipad Safari Youtube policy.
  18. Last one done for the weekend! Yes, that is a banana in his pocket. He's probably still happy to see you, though. I'm happy with how all the colours turned out on him, but he's leaning slightly forward on his base so it's a bit tricky to get a good photo angle.
  19. All done, not a lot to him but I think it looks pretty good. I think I need to work on highlighting flat surfaces a bit more. I never was that good at painting Space Marines.
  20. Painted this lady up in just one night, pretty happy with the outcome. I'm particularly pleased with being able to pull off a decent-looking blonde for once. Have to say that the body suit didn't work as well as I would have liked, but I'm calling her done.
  21. I'm out of Dark Age Stuff. Brom is one of my fav artists, so I may pick up some more in the future. Most likely I will go back to a few of the reaper minis I have. Being fairly new at this, I have started noticing that people mention quite often that they tend to have hundreds of unpainted minis, I'm trying real hard for that not to be me, but I can see them building up fairly quickly already. I hope you enjoy :)
  22. I had some fun lighting up the base on this one. :)
  23. I sculpted this guy quickly as an attempt to impress a particular company. They were not impressed but I think he came out pretty cool. :( The scale is 1:52.
  24. What are Reaper's intentions for new 54mm master series miniatures. I have a lot of great ideas for them, but i dont know if Reaper is still doing them or how to even submit my idea. Thank you, Rattatusk
