Kind of ended up sketching an idea for a faction symbol for a setting that I'd been working on, then it gave me another idea with parts that looked a lot like an owl, which led to me working out the general owl look, then a youtube video on someone making a pendant with wood carving as I was finishing it had me try and fail at that (I don't have a dremel at the moment), so I decided to try sculpting it...which led to this. The second includes the sketch of the owl symbol that I'd started with... It's on a larger wooden "nickle" from the craft store (Don't try carving with normal wood carving tools, the end result isn't pretty there) with some greenstuff, had the loop from something else that was just in my bits collection, and a leather cord. Painted it up with metallics.

This is Brunhilde, my barmaid barbarian. She fights with a beer mug, her improvised weapon, and is incredibly vain- her rage is triggered by petty insults about her looks. Bruni is my first character- when I started playing D&D in 2019, I had a Hero Forge mini to represent her, but as she’s adventured more and shifted out of “failed barmaid” mode and into “full fledged adventurer” mode, I figured she could use an upgrade. A few days ago, I started concepting and sculpting a new mini to represent her, and this is the result! Also, the base and spilled mug of ale are by Vae Victis

To complement my Ent I wanted to sculpt a small toad man. None of yhe available miniatures really fit the bill, so I started from scratch. After bulking out the body with greenstuff and milliput (to make it less bendy) I made good progress with the skin texture. The combination of micro beads, poppy seeds and super glue applicator tube produced a really nice warty skin texture. Next are the arms and legs. He will be a plain toad, only a hand weapon will be added inspired by Polynesian arms.

This is a bunch of minis in one. I was looking at my pygmy mammoth mini a couple of months ago and I just felt the need to dangle something from its tusks. I found some little bottles I had bought years ago from a Michaels or Joann and the rest of the ideas followed smoothly. I chopped some phosphorescent plastic from a little dino model you find in Fred Meyer and put those in the bottles and they do glow in the dark. I wasn't able to take a good photo of that, alas. I first saw the idea of a large pack animal with lanterns on it, traveling into an uncertain world, years ago when I saw this art: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/7638820 and fell in love with it. List of materials - Pygmy mammoth https://www.reapermini.com/search/mammoth/latest/44111 - Shadoweyes Catfolk rogue https://www.reapermini.com/search/cat rogue/latest/44118 - Adventuring accessories https://www.reapermini.com/search/02638 - Adventuring accessories II https://www.reapermini.com/search/02963 - green stuff (I used the silicone sculpting brushes and vaseline to get this level of detail) - little bottles from Michaels or Joann - phosphorescent plastic (I used the plastic support for the dino pieces from JARU, Inc. Dino World Glow Fossils - no dino pieces were harmed in the making of this mini) Here are more close up photos. And here is the making process. He even has a uvula :) I chopped off the platform and the swords from the rogue cat. And then I cut off its legs and tail so i could reposition them on top of the mammoth. And then I summoned the green stuff. It was really hard to detach the sacks from their metal anchor. I was basically chewing away at the metal with my pliers. But eventually they came off. Priming this was challenging. I sealed the base with a heavy layer of gloss sealer later on. Invoking more green stuff, this time for the cape, blanket edges and the harnesses. I used the cap on one of my new brushes to support the rolled up corner of the cape overnight otherwise it would have fallen flat. I smeared it with vaseline so it wouldn't stick and become a problem once the green stuff dried. Sculpted the edges of the blanket because just painting the dangly threads on the mammoth looked flat and most unsatisfactory. I think I'll name her Shen. And have her wreck havoc for my players in my D&D campaigns. I don't have photos for the harnesses because after staring at this mini for so long I got dizzy and had to lie down. And then I forgot to take pics and I finished the piece. The harnesses are just twisted long strips of green stuff. I measured the distance from the tusk to the hand and then made them and let them dry before attaching them. Hope you enjoyed this build :)

Hi All, Finished both of these awhile ago, but finally had time to take pictures now that I'm on "vacation" during quarantine. My first conversion is for my Fallen Aasimar's necrotic shroud. I used Terezinya, Bonepander Wizard (77173) and the wings from the Bone Devil (77325). This was also my first time painting the Bones line. All my previous minis were metal and I have to say I learned my lesson. While the plastic made the conversion much easier, I just don't like the way my acrylic paints sit on it compared to the metal. Also the lower detail is disappointing. But what do I expect for a fraction of the price though, amirite? (I shared my original aasimar mini in a previous thread.) I also completed my first green stuff sculpt from scratch. This is my aasimar's spiritual weapon: a scythe crowned with a raven skull. The magic effects are made with hot glue, which I learned from The Crafting Muse and EonsOfBattle. I thought it was a super cool trick, and I even managed not to burn myself. I'm really happy with it overall for a first attempt. Feedback is welcome! Thanks

This is my first try at using Milliput to sculpt. One of my players has a Druid with a turtle shell shield so I made the flat metal looking shield of Tolan into a turtle shell. I may wash or glaze over the shield to tone down the contrast. Not sure what color to use though.

Hey guys! It feels like it's been too long and I miss you all! I received the sculpting assignment for the Brinewind Expansion Doxie figures and I'm excited to post a follow along thread to share my process! These were really interesting figures. I received the concept art (done by the amazing Izzy "Talin" Collier) and began discussing with the art director some of the major changes that would need to be made. Mainly, we didn't want the orc character attached to the bed. She would be fun to play as an NPC or a PC and we didn't want to limit her usefulness for gamers by having her attached to the terrain piece. Izzy had already provided an alternate pose sketch for her so we are going with that. The more refined piece is still SUPER useful for costuming, attitude, facial expression, and general demeanor of the character. One of the things I really love about Izzy's art is that she communicates the personality and archetype of the figure SO well. I can imagine how this girl moves, how she talks, what she would like/not like. This is such a great skill to have as a concept artist because when the project gets handed to the sculptor major elements might need to be changed for any number of production reasons. Even if I have to adjust major elements of the figure I can do so with a solid idea of what would fit with the character's personality. I love this drawing so much! haha They're all great but this one really seemed like a lot of fun. Ron explained that the bed was made of salvaged ship parts (an idea I absolutely loved) and I think it'll be fun for people to find all the little elements throughout. Some of the body type influences for this figure were Kim K., Marilyn Monroe, and body builders. Here's where I was at after studying those references and creating a ZSphere rig that I was happy with. I moved the right arm to rest on her hip because I was struggling to figure out how she would rest her elbow on her lowered hip without looking unnatural/awkward. I felt like this had a good flow so I started building some musculature to make sure that the body type I was envisioning would still work in this pose. Turns out that I needed to adjust the right arm because I hadn't left enough space to build up the hip area but that was a simple adjustment. I made the arm a separate subtool by masking and splitting it from the rest of the body (dynameshing both resulting pieces) so that I could adjust it in the future as necessary without too much hassle. (https://i.postimg.cc/44V546hB/Orc-Doxie-WIP-1-5.jpg) Linked for nudity. On review we realized this was way too similar to the pose of another character from the KS so that right arm was going to have to change. We tossed around a few options. Maybe have that arm raised behind her head, hand in her hair. Arm down just hanging, this felt too lackluster. Elbow bent resting her hand on her chest, this looked too dainty to suit her personality. Tugging at the corner of her corset to entice a client, good but not great. We decided on having her pulling up her skirts to show a little extra leg. This seemed to suit her demeanor/approach to sales well and maintained a good flow to the composition so I reposed the arm and blocked in some basic forms. ...and that's where we end day 1. I spent the first half of the day gathering reference and working on concepts for other projects so this really only represents about a half day of work on this figure but so far I'm liking how she's coming together. Thanks for checking it out, i'll see you guys again tomorrow!

zbrush My Zbrush sculpted models
rintintin posted a topic in Show off: Sculpts, Conversion, Terrain.
HI, Thought I would create my own topic so I can share the models I create. Crits and comments welcome. This is my latest mini. Created just for fun. I think it should be called " The summoning" though I am open to ideas :) Got a few pictures of the 3d print of this guy. Not the best photos but you get the idea. -
Hi guys, so just because I love touching everything haha and to cut a bit form painting ( though almost finish with the reaper beast champion paint :)...)..I started to mess with clay stuff ..quite fun actually haha. I have no idea how this will end up anyway and that's ok for me to fail , that's just for practice and such and get a feel for it. I started trying to do some kind of carnivore plant things ( also looking at a thread here for a step octopus like sculpt so just trying to avoid the "anatomy" things for now..) I may have some trouble with lower jaw..did nothing to support it but hmm will see xD..

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't stayed active here. It is something I want to be more consistent about. I sculpted this lethargic little sloth in my spare time over the last few months. I'm pretty happy with how he came out and learned a lot of new things along the way. There's also some of the in progress pics and the original concept art. Critiques and feedback always welcome! He's still in need of a name, any ideas? Thanks for taking a look! -CVP (PS: the rabbit is still a WIP)

Hey folks! First timer here, though I must admit to lurking through the forums for quite some time before I got up the nerve to post something. I've only recently discovered Bones and I must say that i'm absolutely amazed with it. In a fit of curiosity I bought some green stuff from the local hobby store and went about trying to make my own miniatures. (This post isn't about that) the results were less than photo worthy, but i'm still working on it, so maybe i'll have something to show for my efforts. Anyways, i'm getting distracted, I'm currently running a home brew role-playing game with some friends and one of my players has been lamenting the fact that there aren't any red bearded Barbarian characters. (He sports a mighty beard.) I searched through the Bones stock and found that he was right - there really wasn't anything that suited. Then I remembered something that someone had posted in the craft corner about trying to modify miniatures before You try to sculpt your own. And Oh Boy - were they right. My apologies about the shots they were taken on my phone. I started with Goldar the Barbarian http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/goldar/latest/77047 Who as you can see is beardless, but he's got a nice well defined neck and I thought he'd be perfect to add a beard. As you can see the photo below i'm still a beginner as far as painting but I was very surprised how easy and effective a little bit of Green stuff goes. To whom ever suggested modification of Bones as a learning step you have my heartfelt thanks, You've made a certain red bearded barbarian very happy! Keep on Gaming! Chris

hi all, it seems appropriate that i am sharing a couple of flumphs on valentines day, loveable little critters that they are. flumph love! so, check out the nice pair of flumphs, for your viewing enjoyment. i found these much maligned but adoreable critters to be a conceptual challenge. i eventually went with their current incarnation because of castability and their adherence to the concept art from the tome of horrors. I realize they are not the most classical vision of the flumph but i think they are cute. it was quite an honor to depict this iconic/notorious monster in miniature form. anyhow, happy valentines day. may your two flumphs beat as one.

The other half has taken to figure sculpting. I managed to sneak a pic of the concept work and one of the pieces she's working on before she caught me and threw me out of the room :P Her concept art, and one of the pieces she's currently sculpting. The one being sculpted, only has half the arms attached, and the face is still being worked on. (as is the mushroom cap)

Zyhoeis the Ancient, Zoat Wizard. Zyhoeis is a lvl 15 Wizard and leads a band of Zoat Warriors to defend their Forest homes.I sculpted a Zoat and had him cast in metal, I also included parts to convert the Wizard into a Warrior model. I sculpted a Zoat miniature on commision last month. I also sculpted the necessary additional parts to convert the castings into Warrior versions. Zoat Warrior

So, I was looking around, in the mood to paint a bust. Female, hopefully cheap, and something I don't feel weird about putting on my shelf (so no pinupy stuff, and no "adult" busts). ...why can't I find any. The only one that kind of fits is Portrait of a Young Tiefling, but it's definitely not cheap. So I decided to sculpt my own out of Super Sculpey. (See my sculpting thread if you want to look at the raw master for some reason) Hit it with a coat of gray primer and... ew. Did I mention how much I hate SS's transparency? Can never tell when something is smooth. Well whatever, I want to paint. I'll think of a patch method later. So I went over the worst offending bits with a bit of artist's heavy gel medium. It's transparent (well, translucent at least), fills out rough spots nicely, and is pretty easy to use. I had a jar of it I hadn't touched in years. Hopefully with a coat of sealer even the little bit of roughness will fade away. Also, yes she is missing eyebrows. Those will be sculpted in with more gel medium. Anyways, more to come, but I'm already excited to paint my first bust!

And now, by request, I present a lich with a flaming skull. Flavor Text: After the cultists opened the rift, and were promptly eaten, all manner of strange beast came though. Most fearsome were the Liches, commanders of the undead. The fed from the fresh battlegrounds and quickly the Rebels and Redcoats formed an easy peace to take on this new threat.

Hi everyone, I wanted to show you all my latest sculpt and get your feedback. I am trying to *redacted* miniatures. Maybe some day *redacted*. Right now Gen. Brookwater is in the last stages before *redacted*. Still need to nail down the casting method and the material. But, hopefully, in the fall of 2016 or so *redacted*. But now is your chance to let me know what you like, what you don't like, what you'd prefer to see. Because, for the time being, changes can still be made! I'll be posting updates as time goes on and soon will have a youtube video up so you can really see him. Thank you!

yet another sculpt for the Tome of Horrors Complete. this one was done in a very short time frame (for me), but i really enjoy how it came out. i was going for a blend of the art from the original fiend folio (laugh if you will, but that book is a favorite in my collection) and the ToHC art. the two complemented each other very well. the end result is UBER OLD SCHOOL. now, i have to warn you: the pictures are a bit dodgy. the lean and combination of glossy and matte materials made him tough to photograph. i have found that greens in general are tough because they lack contrast. ah, well, live and learn. Edit: 30mm base and a bonus pic & 1982 fiend folio art: what does the babbler say? "blablopredububrubaprawrrawrrawrr" P.S. let me know if you guys are getting sick of seeing all of my greens. I haven't had time to paint lately so it is what I have to share.
