  1. What is Secret Sophie, you ask? Well, it's a lot like Secret Santa, with a more attractive (albeit more dangerous) delivery person! (For those not in the know, Sophie the Succubus is Reaper's mascot.) This is the time of year for Reaper forumites to give a little holiday cheer to each other. Unlike previous years, this year will only be a miniature and gift exchange. No gift only this time. Signups will run from October 10th until midnight (PST) October 30th, with the assignments going out by the end of November 6th. If you've never done an exchange before, how it works is like this: Everyone who is interested PMs me (SGHawkins09) with the questionnaire below filled out by the deadline. The organizer (SGHawkins09) then matches you with a person to whom you will send your gift/mini, and another person from whom you will receive a gift/mini from in return (sometimes it's the same person). Halfway through the exchange, you'll need to send the organizers a WIP. You have until the deadline to send your gift/mini out. This exchange is based on trust. Please be respectful of the fact that someone else is investing their time, money and energy into painting a mini for you. I am simply the organizer, but I will do everything I can to make sure that everyone who paints a miniature receives one. The Rules (tl;dr version) Gifts should be primarily new, Reaper-branded presents. Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. You must post a Work In Progress (WIP) image of your mini under a spoiler tag to this thread by December 31st. The deadline to mail your items is January 31st. Full Rules Decide if you would like to participate in this exchange. Reaper minis are the focus. If you want to paint more than one miniature, you may do so. If you wish to include other gifts for your recipient, you may do so, but please keep them small. The focus of the exchange should be a Reaper product. "Gifts" could be Reaper paints, unpainted miniatures, or other Reaper painting supplies. Recommended dollar value of gifts is $25 or less. You could also include food, small gifts, and other holiday related items. Fill out all of the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Please fill out the current version of the questionnaire, Please don't just send an old one, as questions may have changed. Please don't contact your partner unless they have listed themselves as okay with contact. I've included it on the questionnaire, so you'll know who wants to keep it secret and who doesn't. You will need to acknowledge your assignment message and/or post or message me that you have selected a miniature by December 1st. Basically, if I do not hear anything from you once the assignments go out, you will be dropped, and your recipient will be reassigned.. I really do not want to do this but there have been too many instances in the past of radio silence once assignments go out. In order to encourage people to start painting early, you will need to post a Work In Progress (WIP) image of your mini under a spoiler tag to this thread by December 31st. The mini should be at least base-coated by this time. If you don't post a WIP by this point, I may have to drop you from the exchange. Please don't make me do this. Try really hard to get your miniature out by the deadline. Let an organizer know if you are going to be late. Please post in this thread once you have received your miniature from your partner. We all love seeing what everyone did and it serves as an acknowledgement that you received it. In the past some people have wanted to send food - please verify allergens, etc. with your partner before proceeding. If you are mailing internationally and plan to send more than just miniatures/paint, you must contact your recipient to get any "bonus items" approved. We don't want any trouble with customs. As an example, plant matter or powders can cause a lot of trouble. The organizers (SGHawkins09) can help facilitate any anonymous conversations you want to have with your partner. Once you have submitted your questionnaire, please make sure to routinely check your messages on the forum as that is the primary mode of communication for this exchange. Other than sending you your assignment message, I may contact you if your painter has any questions, if they provide a tracking number, and just to check in if you have not posted any progress or have not messaged saying you have shipped your items or if you have not shared that you have received your package. Have fun! Deadlines The deadline for acknowledging your assignment is December 1st. The deadline for a WIP photo is December 31st. The deadline for mailing exchange miniatures is January 31st, but it's even better if you can get them out by Christmas. .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. We will do our best to pair you with someone new. Another situation is that you know certain people in real life, and would prefer to paint for someone you don't know.
  2. My Secret Sophie partner is moving, so I needed to get mine done and in the mail ASAP. After spending a decent amount of time on the skin, the rest of it got pushed through fairly quickly. Quickly enough I probably missed something, but that's for my partner to find. The photos of Ollamiel are mostly color accurate, though I don't recall the red cloth looking so vibrant in hand. Taking these pics made me realize I'd missed the bits in her hair. Her clothing was something of an experiment. They didn't quite work as expected, but tropical fish come in all sorts of colors and there wasn't really time to redo them anyway so... If you ever purchase her be aware she is one of those minis with an unfortunate mold line across her face. It cleaned up well enough that she is ok from either side, but when viewed directly you can see the symmetry is a bit off.

  4. Better late than never. Here's some fun Pumpkin Horrors I painted up for @Inarah for Secret Sophie this past December. I was still riding on my Halloween spirit when Secret Sophie began, but wanted to do something that fit the winter theme. Inspired by the snowman-like design of the Pumpkin horrors and my own past mistakes of leaving pumpkins outside to rot all winter, I decided to do a holiday mashup with these guys left out in the cold too long. With some time having passed, I wish I would have made them look a bit rotten and frost-bitten, but I also like the more colorful result. More Photos Below the Spoiler: These were some fun minis and my first time working with metal. I have now broken the seal and have started looking into other minis that I previously considered off-limits. I also enjoyed participating in Secret Sophie and joining in to some of the forum shenanigans. I highly recommend participating in these kinds of things for any who have been reticent. What are some of your favorite holiday minis?
  5. My Secret Sophie arrived at its destination i can share with everyone. My recipient wanted something cute. I thought it would be cute to have a man feeding his pet. Just because his pet happens to be a rust weevil should not be held against him. I saw the barbarian and it looked like he was throwing the swords rather than. Actually using them to hit anything. I also had a spare rust weevil and the whole thing just came together. Roger got the old swords out of the box from his adventuring days. It had been a while since he'd been out to the dungeons but at the rate George was going through weapons, he was either going to need to buy a new crate or go delving. Maybe this time he'd just buy a box of old weapons, let the younger kids go fight the baddies. These two look okay. He grabs the weapons and heads out to the field. When he reached the edge of the field he looks out over the fine red and tan soil and dust. HEY GEORGE! He yells out over the field. In moments George shows up jumping and chittering. "Hey George" he says again, "its dinnertime! FETCH!"
  6. The battle against the forces of evil takes place on many levels. Sometimes it's a clash of mighty armies, whilst other times terrifying behemoths clash in the sky, terrifying the populace for miles around. Others.....well, they're far more personal. This was my contribution to this years Secret Sophie gift exchange. It portrays the winner of a long, hard won battle between evenly matched opponents and I suspect the only thing keeping that little dragon up is pride and a good dose of adrenaline This was a number of firsts for me- my first semi successful NMM attempt, first ever diorama and first Secret Sophie. I had a great time and I'll certainly do it again! Thanks for looking, as always any comments/criticisms are certainly welcome.
  7. My secret Sophie is winging its way to its recipient as I write this and may even arrive before the new year! I have been practicing a technique shown to me by @Mocha and have produced. Number of these this year so its only fitting that my SS be one of them. The present is actually a 6 sided die from dice jail for too many 1's so for its trouble it has been incarcerated in greenstuff wrapping paper! I modified Rocky a little bit to flatten his wings to more of a waiting position. As for the story, Rocky has been asked to wait for his present and he intends to make sure it does not get away! I enjoyed making the little bow much more than I should have but it was a lot of fun. The Rocky series is great. The eyes are just large enough to get some real detail into without overwhelming the mini and ever part of the mini is accessible to paint! I hope his recipient likes him and that he reminds everyone that good things will come with a little bit of patience

Notes: If you're asking for a miniature to be used in army, you can ask your partner to match the colors. What style of basing would you prefer? Plain or basic - I will use these miniatures in my PFRPG games. Examples: round or square preference? Unbased, plain base (simple black base), basic base (standard sized base with some scenic elements), or scenic base (fancy base not really suitable for gaming) Please give your partner some inspiration, especially if you have very few preferences above. I'm starting the PFRPG Adventure Path "Jade Regent" soon. Try painting non-human skin tones. My favorite color is blue. "Spring has sprung!" Notes: Consider this a non-binding word of inspiration for your partner. If they're stuck and can't figure out what to paint, maybe this will help them. No need to repeat your preferences above. You partner may ignore this question if they already have an idea from the your previously answered questions. Examples: Are there any books or movies you've enjoyed recently? Is there a challenge or technique you'd like your partner to try? How about some song lyrics or a quote from a book? -Personal Information- Will you ship internationally? Yes Notes: Be aware that postage costs will be higher than domestic postage. If you mail internationally, you will need permission from your partner to include other gift items so that we don't run afoul of customs. Most participants in these exchanges are located in the USA. Would you be willing to have multiple exchange partners? Yes, I love painting! Notes: If yes, specify if there is a limit (though it is unlikely we'll ask you to do more than 2) Would you like to know who is painting for you? No Examples: Yes, No, No Preference Notes: If you say yes, your preference will be communicated to your partner. It will be up to them to contact you. Would you like your partner to know who is painting for them? No Examples: Yes, No, No Preference Notes: You can contact them directly to work out details or ask for advice. We will attempt to match people with similar preferences, but can't guarantee this is the case. Is there anybody you would prefer not to paint for? (please include why) I painted for johndoe123 in the last miniature exchange. Notes: If you like to paint for a variety of different people, you can list those you've painted for in the past. We will do our best to pair you with someone new. Another situation is that you know certain people in real life, and would prefer to paint for someone you don't know. -Special Requests- For the organizer, your painter, or your recipient:
  9. I took these pictures during the WIP phase of my gift for Fealron.
  10. This was one of two figures I painted for @Fealron for the Secret Sophie this year. His ideas were Metal, minimal basing for gaming use, a woodland creature, usually considered good but turned to evil, and a minion of a necromancer. After thinking a while, I decided I could knock out all his ideas with some evil unicorns. Here is the second. Maybe once the prior unicorn charmed by a necromancer does, he raised it as a skeleton, and put another minion on top. Here are the WIP shots: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/90618-02631-skeletal-cavalry-project-2-of-2-for-fealron/ I magnetized the mount and rider. I had a lot of fun with these, and definitely bittersweet to part with them! Thanks for looking. C&C Welcome
  11. Here is the first. I envisioned a unicorn charmed by a necromancer that tramples a virgin, staining it black. That taint would spread from the hooves, causing a grayscale, with only a few remnants of white/color where the corruption is still incomplete. Here are the WIP shots: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/90564-starmane-unicorn-02151-project-1-of-2-for-fealron/ I’ll post the fiction a little later when I’m at my desktop. C&C Welcome.
  12. Here is the finished figure I painted up for my Secret Sophie.
  13. This little lady I chose to paint for my Secret Sophie. Now that @Darcstaar has received my gift, I can now show her off. Skin tone – Dark Skin Triad Hair – Blonde Hair Triad Hair Bands – 09698 Retro Frost Satin Blades and shoulder pauldrons – Base of Tempest blue, silver toned metals triad with a stone wash. Breast pieces – Redstone base, Rose Gold, Red shadow wash, Highlight- Rose Gold, New Gold Sword Cross Guards – Redstone base, Bright Bronze, Red Shadow wash, Highlight – New Gold Undergarment – Stained Ivory – Creamed Ivory – Linen White Leather Straps –Rich Leather, Oiled Leather, Burnt Orange. Rings for Leather Straps – Cursed Gold Anklet – 09103 Emerald Green Dangling Straps – Pure Blues Triad
  14. I painted this one in Fall/Winter for @Jay for the 2017 Secret Santa. He said he was playing a martial artist in a tabletop campaign, so I gave him "Bruce Lee". Bruce Lee has some classic yellow and black pants, so I changed the black for red for flair. To avoid ketchup-and-mustard (and the original pants color is Mustard Yellow), I popped some doodles onto the belt. I did intense shading on the skin to make it clear that the dude is made of muscles. The yellow is shaded with Arbuckles Brown from Scale 75, which is pretty much a brown-purple, through Reaper Mustard Yellow, to Scale 75 Hykey Yellow, and Reaper Linen White. I kept the base minimal for ease of use in Jay's game, and gave the base some extra sealant, anticipating handling.
  15. So, I got SGHawkins for my Secret Sophie. She said she would be starting Curse of Strahd soon, so I made Strahd... Happy Vampire is Happy! Also, i did a couple "Spell Effects" like this Dancing Magma Sword! And a pair of the new WizKids unpainted minis. I chose the Dragonborn female Fighters set because Dragonborn are hard to find equivilents for outside the official minis and I wanted to try out painting a few of them for future referance. I really like the effect I made with the first's Fire Sword. The mini's Fire sword is made from clear plastic so I used Tamiya Clear "Paint" to shade it and a little bit of Sword steel paint to make it look like the sword is on fire but that it still is metal underneeth. The second Dragonborn was a challenge from SGHawkins to "Try something new" so, I tried Non-Metalic Metal! I used the Copper/Bronze triad from the Bones 3 Kickstarter to attempt it. It came out okay I think, but I can do better in the future. Also, had fun with the Fire and Ice Axes. SGHawkins, please post pictures of the items I included too. i did not get to take any pictures of the gifts as I was ill until yesterday evening. GF
  16. I put together this little diorama for Vegascat for the Secret Sophie this year. He had expressed an interest in fantasy or steampunk and I wanted to give him something that would work for either. The concept is a whos hunting who in a dark hall or around a building corner. I left the figures attached with wax instead of gluing them down incase Vegascat wanted to use them in a campaign I am afraid that recently my skills have fallen off some and it has been a really busy year. I did find a few spots in the pictures that needed touchup and got them before I sent them out but its still rougher than I would really like (sorry bout that I am beginning to think I really need glasses) . I did think that the overall scene came out really well and in particular, the use of a hemming pin as the silver arrow added a really nice highlight and effect. the actual walls are from some old mage knight dungeon tiles that I picked up years ago. I literally have hundreds of them and this was an opportunity to use a few up. Anyway, here are the pictures, Enjoy!
  17. This is my painted mini for Wyvernfire's Secret Sophie. The request was to try something new and since I hadn't done much in serious modding lately or in the world of steampunk so after listening to a bit too much Abney Park I decided to try to model a steampunk automaton at the moment of epiphany when it realizes that it must leave its birthplace or risk dying before it ever lived. I started with 77514 because I liked the looks of the head and body. I then chopped pretty much everything else off to change its positioning, bringing it from a very static pose to what I hope is a kneeling position struck by the light of revelation. to give it more of a steampunk feel I added a boiler/power source to the back of the mini sculpted out of greenstuff and wood. Since I also received the bones three copper triad so I thought I would try some metal aging and distressing to go with the changes in the metal and to show the wear it went through. when I got the mini done, I was originally going to try a winter scene with snow and brush but I thought the stark brick with pieces of broken gears and clockwork scattered on the ground would be more fitting (quite literally after I noticed it would fit inside a protective case that was lying around on my desk ). the remains of the column was necess ary because I couldn't make its arm stretch to the ground without either bending him over (which was not the look I was going for) or making the arm look ridiculous. I am really pleased with the way the sculpting came out and pretty pleased with the aging results of the copper triad as well as some of my pastel aging compounds on the steel portions. I also liked the jewel effect on the boiler. I need to practice some more on the verdigris but overall I am pleased with the result. Anyway, here are the pictures!
  18. This was the Secret Sophie mini I painted for Auberon this year. One of the "inspiration" pictures he sent me was described as "not technically a chainmail bikini." So I just decided to go with an unabashed chainmail bikini. I experimented a bit and used NMM on the armor and blades. I'm happy with the placement on the gold, but I think it needs more contrast. I'm happy with the contrast on the steel, but the placement is definitely wrong somehow. Comments on how to improve this are welcome.
  19. You've been warned. Don't look if you don't want to know what can go in a Secret Sophie box. I didn't realize flesh could have so many colors - but I've used a lot of bottles and spontaneous mixes so far.
  20. WARNING! HERE THERE BE SECRET SOPHIE SPOILERS! YE HAVE BEEN WARNED!! Please excuse the crappy phone pictures. It was all I had at the time. I now have access to my mother's camera (my digital is broken) but there are delays getting pictures from it to the computer. Note: Some of the images are sideways, but if you right click and open in a new tab, they show correctly. Don't know why this is happening... So here it is, the WIP of my Secret Sophie. It is taking me a while, but that's because I'm putting a lot of work into it. There are a lot of pictures included as I've been taking them along the way, so you can see the progress. The first thing I did when I received the information on my partner was look up their profile and started looking over their own work and some of their comments. I needed 1) An idea of what kind of mini to do, since they weren't super-clear and 2) What kind of color scheme they'd like. One color seemed to jump out from many of their comments, and that color is what inspired my color scheme. So blame my partner. But before I had a color scheme, I had to peruse the Reaper catalog for what mini to paint. A few jumped out at me, and some of them were purchased and will be included in the final box (so they can paint them up), but I finally had a mini that struck me with a very clear image in my head: Along with this mini I wanted a tree. Not just any tree, I needed a tree that was spooky and hanging with Spanish moss, so off to the interwebz! So I had my pictures. But... now what? Well, I decided I wanted the tree up high and the figure lower and a stream of water in between. I had my layout. Toss in some old gravestones, and I was set. Off to my Reaper Order! But... tree. Where was I going to get a tree? Then I remembered recently reading a post by Corporea about tree sculpting. So off to ask questions via PM. First attempt: Too small. So... before I even put greenstuff on it, I made a new armature. Better! So off I went. While I was busy sculpting the tree, I was also painting the mini... Then I started looking at all my paints. I finally settled on these: So I needed to do my base colors... With the initial blocking in done, it's down to blending... Then I started freaking out that my colors weren't contrasty enough. That's when I did the black and white image shown before of the colors. Satisfied there was enough contrast, I moved on. Here is where I am currently: Still not done, but hope to provide regular updates here as I move along. Comments and suggestions on this are greatly appreciated as so far this is my best work. I have a lot of cork I'll be using to build up the base, along with all sorts of basing supplies I've been collecting and water effects for the stream. I was going to mount it on a tile, but have been reconsidering as of late onto a plinth. Here's what I've had: Hope you enjoy the ride with me the rest of the way! Note: Going to try and fix the sideways picture issue... don't know why that's happening...
  21. Hey friends! I apologize for just now getting around to the post, but I'd love to show off the Secret Sophie I received from SGHawkins09!! She's a gorgeous little elf painted like a Sylvari from Guild Wars 2! She's even pointing at a tiny little bird in a tree. She also came with lots of little goodies, like a dragon ornament and a paint splatter sketchbook!! It was all an awesome surprise. Thank you, SGHawkins09!!
  22. Welcome everyone, to the 2016 Secret Sophie thread! Unlike most of the exchanges we do on the forums, this will have two categories - miniature and gift exchange and gift-only exchange. Signups will run from October 1st to October 10, with the assignments going out around the 15th. If you've never done an exchange before, how it works is like this: Everyone who is interested PMs me with the questionnaire below filled out. The organizers (fanguad, SGHawkins09) then match you with a person to whom you will send your gift/mini, and another person from whom you will receive a gift/mini from in return (sometimes it's the same person). Halfway through the exchange, you'll need to send the organizers a WIP. You have until the deadline to send your gift/mini out. That's pretty much it, feel free to ask questions in this thread, or PM them to me. Exchanging painted miniatures is optional. Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Painters must send the organizers a WIP of their mini by December 1st. The deadline for non-painters to mail their items is December 15th. The deadline for painters is January 15th. Full Rules Decide whether you are doing gift and miniature exchange or gift-only exchange."Gifts" are Reaper paints, unpainted miniatures, or other Reaper painting supplies. Recommended dollar value of gifts is $25 or less. The miniature exchange is where you paint a Reaper miniature for someone and mail it to them. If you want to paint more than one miniature, you may do so. Non-Reaper items may be included, but the focus of this event is on Reaper items, so keep them in the minority. Fill out the appropriate sections of the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Please fill out the current version of the questionnaire, Please don't just send an old one, as questions may have changed. I am going to be a little stricter than normal about filling in all the questions and may send it back for clarification if you don't. Please don't contact your partner unless they have listed themselves as okay with contact. I've included it on the questionnaire, so you'll know who wants to keep it secret and who doesn't. In order to encourage people to start painting early, you will need to post a Work In Progress (WIP) image of your mini to either this thread, or as a reply to your organizer, by December 1st. The mini should be at least base-coated by this time. If you don't post a WIP by this point, I may have to demote you to gift-only or drop you from the exchange. Please don't make me do this. Try really hard to get your miniature out by the deadline. Let an organizer know if you are going to be late. The organizers (fanguad, SGHawkins09) can help facilitate any anonymous conversations you want to have with your partner. Have fun! Deadline The deadline for mailing gifts is December 15th. The deadline for mailing exchange miniatures is January 15th, but it's even better if you can get them out by Christmas. Assignments Deadline The organizers will send the assignments out in about two weeks (October 15th). Please let me know if you're interested by the 10th. I can't make any guarantees if you're late, but I will try to make arrangements. Exchange Assistant SGHawkins will be helping me run this exchange. She will coordinate and communicate with approximately half the participants. You can contact either of us if you have any questions or issues. 23. My Secret Sophie recipient was Fanguad. He's a GM, so I went looking for some interesting NPCs. Ordered a few and this guy told me he wanted to be painted. Considering how many blades he has, I thought I should oblige him. He was fun to paint (once I figured out I was using the wrong red and started the reds over). Its interesting using that few colours on a fig, since I'm usually more of a "he's got 4 pouches on his belt, I need 4 different leathers" kind of guy. I had a spare set of Halfsies dice (I ordered a LOT with that kickstarter....) that matched his colours pretty well, so hopefully they'll roll some crits for this guy! His base is plain as per the request. Lighting for the pics isn't as good as usual. One of my lamps is out of commission.
  24. So, I cannot hold it in anymore. I must Share the results of my hard work before I explode or something. If you have NOT gotten a Secret Sophie Package Proceed at your own risk!!!!! -------------------------- -------------- So first off the piece of Cork on her behind was removed as soon as I saw that it was there in the Pictures. So, I painted up Yephima the Giantess as a Fire Giantess. My Partner for this Exchange Was . They did not have a lot of preferances as far as requests. just some thing cool. So, Fire. :P GF
