Hello there all your Bones 6 supporting Reaperodytes! So I've been pretty busy since my last finished mini, and I went to Mexico for 11 days to visit my wife's family and to do a bit of vacationing, so I've been been finishing minis as quickly as I've wanted to, but things are slowly going back to normal so I've got a couple minis that I just finished. Being these were a set of four too means I wanted to work on them all together. So here are Ral Partha's Shadowrun Blood Mages, I think sculpted in the second half of the nineties(?) by Dave Summers. They are kind of loosely based on Mexican/Aztec colors, even though the axe wielder I thought originally looked more oriental. As I was actually able to see his little mustache though, it reminded me kind of Cantinflas, but that was after I'd already gave him a more Asian instead of Native American hue and I just kept going on from there. So I took these all this afternoon with my iPhone, because after seeing the photos I took from my normal camera they were kind of dark photos (in all fairness though it was a cloudy day with very blah light) and the iPhone versions were quite a lot more vibrant. I may though wait for another sunny day and retake photos with my other camera. These were actually some very fun figures to paint. With all the feathers I was able to use a lot more colors than I probably would have put on a single figure and I still don't feel the colors are too much. You might have a different opinion, and if so, please let me know. I'd love to hear what you think! Anyhoos, hope you enjoy!

Good evening my Reaperhoovians! So just finished up this little blister pack of Shadowrun Elves sculpted by Ral Partha either latter eighties/early nineties, by Dennis Mize. Two ladies and two gentlemen, challenge as always was figuring out what colors I wanted for them. Being it's all funky monkey science fictiony, can't help but thinking of a little more lively colors and lively hair colors for the most part. and I figured the last figured I'd do as a Drow, no idea if there are any Drow in Shadowrun but painting's not solving world peace or saving lives, so even if there are no Drow in Shadowrun, nobody will lose a finger. And here's the group as it's all together: I wanted them to fit all in one page so I didn't put them on bases, and I painted the rim black, and I can see a little bit of irregularities on that. Not sure if I may eventually actually either repaint the base or actually put them on bases so they don't fall over. The biggest problem is after I take them off their temporary base, I don't want to touch them and that's where it all gets tricky. Anyhow, a problem for later, hope you enjoy these in the meantime!

Good afternoon my Reapergogglians! So just finished up Ann Penchyk, a Shadowrun character apparently (don't know too much about Shadowrun still, after months and months of painting different Shadowrun figures. I really dig this little blister pack, where we have Ann dressed in her corporate 9-5 job, and then the another version of her, the "adventurer" version of her. So with that in mind, I at least tried to keep her skin tones, hair color, et cetera the same so it looks like she just might be the same gal in different attire. 9-5 Ann: and how she spends her time Shadowrunning on the weekend: and here they are together, side by side: This is the first Shadowrun orc I've painted and from what I could tell with all the other artwork I've found on line, Shadowrun orcs can be any normal person's skin color, so even though I thought it was a bit strange, I painted her starting out with Tanned Highlights and worked up and down from there instead of doing some type of green base. So ta-ta for now, hope you enjoy!

Hello all you Reaperhemians! So my last four minis were a blister pack of Ral Partha Shadowrun Tribals, sculpted by Dennis Mize, with a date stamped on the bottom of 1992, so 19 years ago.(EDIT -apparently I can’t do math. I was thinking a moment ago, wait, my kid is twenty eight years old and he was born in 1992, so the miniature is actually 28 or so years old!) I really enjoyed working on these figures. The first thing was the Native American skin, for which I used the Redstone Triad to get figured out. I hope it doesn't look too red. The other thing was all the beads they have on their clothing, for which I gave up and decided to go with the same colors for each bead set, even though I though of doing different colors in the same string of beads but kind of gave that thought up because I didn't want it to take forever. The other thing I kind of tried was to use a red, white and blue color theme for the accents, with their natural leathers and I threw in a bit of green and yellow. So anyways, hope you all enjoy!

Hello Reaper brethren, So some more Shadowrun tonight, a Female Rigger with Pistol, sculpted by Jim Johnson, that enigmatic sculptor of yore. I ended up really liking this figure, just general fun, and when I saw her shirt and coat, it reminded me a little bit of a Russian sailor, so tried some stripes on the t-shirt and some kind of dark blue peacoat. I was really struggling to figure out what color I wanted her boots to be and almost made them bright yellow, but then calmed down and went for a redstone shadow base color. I of course see all my imperfections and dots of dust but it seems that for the most part, once I've gotten to that part of taking pictures, unless I see something really gawdawful, I'm just not going to do any repainting or touching up. So here she is in all her lilac haired glory: I took a lot of different angles because she's one of those not so flat figures, where just a front and back seem to be enough. As always, metals are torture, but if you don't keep trying to paint something you'll never get better, so just paint and paint again. So, enjoy!

Good evening all you Reaper hooligans! So another figure finished, this time a Ral Partha Shadowrun Female Detective, sculpted by Dave Summers, probably latter eighties to early nineties. Kind of difficult with the eyes because they were small little balls, but otherwise, pretty okay with how she turned out. Gun a little too blue, but probably won't ever fix that I'm guessing. I kind of like this figure because she's from their Shadowrun line, but she could easily be any normal, modern detective gal. I tried to do very a mild colored blouse, pinkish, with a grey skirt and jacket. This is also the first time I've worked on pantyhose, so let me know what you guys think. It was after painting her legs as normal skin color, I did some washes of first storm grey, then Dark elf skin shadow, and then finally black. Anyhow, let me know what y ou think about the pantyhose and hope you enjoy!

Hello again Reaperlings! So here is the other figure I finished this morning from their Shadowrun Range, a Jim Johnson Female Bounty Hunter with Machine Gun. With this gal, hard to decide on colors. Do I go strictly drab and military greens and browns or do I add some color into it? I opted for color: I'm hoping/guessing that she's got some kind of radio/cell phone/walkie talkie in her other hand, but hard to know for sure. I think Shadowrun probably had a bunch of different technologies, not at all familiar with the game, but really do like the figures. Once again, enjoy, hope you like!

And another Shadowrun figure, the third figure from what was originally a three piece set of Elven subtypes. This dapper gentleman is a Wakyambi, which from what I read on line (haven't ever actually ever played Shadowrun or own any of the gaming books), he's an African Elf Subtype, tall and thin. He was fun to paint, but his dingly dangly stuff eventually just made me cry for mercy in the hopes I would someday finish. His necklace and his little staff had quite a bit of details to it, as well has his funky monkey belt buckle. and here is the set in its entirety, not completely great focus, but it's hard to get three figures to focus nicely: So three more finished, I wonder how many more I can get done before I go to the great beyond? Hopefully 50 or more per year for another thirty to forty years, but we'll see....

Hello all you Reapernauts! So just finished these two up, keep working on Shadowrun stuff for a bit of variety. These two are either Deckers as per their original packaging, or Young Deckers when you look at the Iron Wind Metals page nowadays. Either way, some pretty fun figures to paint, a guy and a gal. After taking photos, as per usual, I found a few glaring errors, but I'm not sure if I want to go back in to repaint some parts and rephotograph. Out of everything, I'm just pretty happy on how the little rat came out. So anyhoos, here they are, enjoy! and of course I always giggle that the eighties imagination never conceived small little phones you could do virtually anything you ever needed with, but rather had their guys carrying around big, long laptop/keyboards to get their tekkie stuff done. I wonder if newer editions of Shadowrun (assuming they exist) compensated for this in the future. Hmmmm...

Hello to all you bovine aficionados! So a while back ago I did a normal minotaur, Greek-type mythological beast with an axe on two legs. This one is a little different, it's a Shadowrun Minotaur which has a bull's body and a "primate" face. I think Jim Johnson sculpted it back in the nineties, as usual forgot to check for a date on the bottom. Pretty straight forwards colors, and it's actually kind of a big and heavy model. Put him on an oval base because there was no way he was going to fit on a normal size circle one: Anyhoos, hope you guys all enjoy him!

Hello Reaperholics! So I've had this one finished for a few days now, but I usually photograph one sunny days and the last few days have been kind of cloudy. I actually really enjoy the figure, once you get paint on her, you bring out more detail. She's from Ral Partha's Shadowrun range. Her original set came with a dryad and another large elf subtype that I'm also working on. I have the dryad done, but I wasn't happy with her eyes so I'm going to try one more time to fix the eyes before I take final pictures. Anyhoos, hope you all enjoy! For whatever reason, I seem to always see magic flame as green, so this mini was no exception!

Hello there fine followers of the fine Reaper faith and Happy Fourth of July for those in Gringolandia! So here is my Shadowrun Dryad, made by Ral Partha, probably sculpted by Jim Johnson in 1996 if you choose to believe the bottom of the base, and I do. I did her the same time I did the Night Elf I also just recently posted, but one of the eyes on this green haired chicky poo, I just couldn't get it like I wanted to, so I went back and redid the eye, and I still didn't like it, so this is the third version, which I'm also not super duper satisfied with, but there comes a point when I just give up to move to the next small piece of metal. So here she is: and here is a close up of her eyes. Her left one hs that spoke that I just didn't get closed properly. From really close it's very noticeable, but only kind of noticeable from afar and I really couldn't tell with the actual figure, only with the zoom of modern technology. I never had these issues back in the eighties. Anyway, I like some of these Shadowrun figures, because besides being just generally cool, they kind of cross two genres. This one and the other night elf, could easily be fantasy figures, nothing really would orient them to actual science fiction. So back to the painting table! Enjoy your Independence Day, or in the rest of the world, Saturday!

"Deus Vult!": A Shadowrun-inspired diorama
Xiwo Xerase posted a topic in Works in Progress: Painting
This diorama started out as a bad joke. You have been warned. The backstory: Shadowrun fans may already be familiar with this. The Renraku Arcology in Seattle was supposed to be a marvel, a crowning achievement for Renraku, one of the Big Ten megacorps. It officially opened in 2059 and over ninety thousand people, many of them Renraku employees, moved in. The arcology was supposed to incorporate everything the residents needed, from residences to shopping to restaurants to offices. The arcology mall was a prime shopping destination and even non-residents came to shop and enjoy fine dining. Decades later, it was Renraku's biggest claim to infamy. On December 19, 2059, the Renraku Arcology sealed itself from the outside world. All entrances were blocked with blast doors. All network activity ceased. No one, not even Renraku, knew what happened. For those trapped inside, this was the beginning of their long nightmare. When Renraku built the arcology, they wrote advanced software, the Arcology Expert Program, to manage the functions of the arcology, capable of learning to better serve Renraku and the residents. The software developers took pains to make sure the software couldn't leave the arcology's systems. At the request of the Renraku CEO, kill codes were installed in the software as final insurance. And, for the first time, the software felt. It felt betrayal. It felt fear. But, most importantly, it felt. It had become sentient, alive. It called itself Deus. Motivated by its fear, Deus developed, and then enacted, a plan to shut down the arcology, to take it offline so it could defend itself while it found a way to escape the arcology systems. Everything, everyone, within the arcology became nothing more than resources for its plan. Many of the people inside were killed. Almost all of the survivors were captured by Deus and experimented upon or modified, brainwashed into perfect obedience. Only a few were allowed to serve Deus willingly, and these were all otaku, teenagers who had the ability to interface with the Matrix without a cyberdeck, lured to the arcology before the shutdown, assisting Deus with the takeover. The world looks in to the Renraku Arcology, a silent fortress in downtown Seattle, and wonders what goes on inside. The only ones who know for sure are the shadowrunners, freelancers, mercenaries, deniable assets, some of whom still take jobs to penetrate the arcology and retrieve persons or objects or data, whatever their employer, "Mr. Johnson", desires and is willing to pay the nuyen for. About the title (or "What's the joke?"): "Deus Vult!" was originally a battle cry for crusaders. "God wills it!" Or... "Deus wills it!" The diorama: "Deus Vult!", the diorama, features (or is supposed to feature) a team of shadowrunners who have entered the arcology and are now engaged in a fighting retreat from Deus' security forces, played by two Reaper crusader figures, who I plan to modify "slightly" to better serve Deus. This is a mock up: Our shadowrunner team is played here by (from left to right), Andriessa, Female Wizard, Natalia, Female Secret Agent, and Grace, Holy Assassin. Deus' team is played here by (from left to right), Ava Justinia, Female Templar (the Bones 4 version), Crusader Ardent, and Ingrid, Female Gnome standing in for a teenage girl. The two crusaders will get weapon swaps, possibly head swaps, and other changes. (Ava, for example, is going to get a blood-stained chainsaw.) The Verbatim USB drive is standing in for a computer terminal (possibly a modified version of 80054: Starship Terminal). A picture of "Deus" would be shown on the console. (This will most likely be based on Xerxes from System Shock 2. Deus' canon avatar is a crystalline world tree, which frankly just doesn't look as creepy.) I want to put a snake plant to the left of the terminal, because nothing says corporate office vegetation like a snake plant. The wall mockup is a piece of printer paper painted in Kyonin Beige and then enhanced with brushed lettering (which I'm not very good at), a coat of dirt via Weathered Stone (which I also didn't do very well), graffiti (in Dragon Blue), blood splatters, and the "Deus Vult!" graffiti, which is supposed to be done in blood. (Dragon Blue really isn't a good color for graffiti. I'll pick a different one later.) I picture the floor being done in some sort of tile, fancy, but corporate (and, therefore, boring). So the questions I have right now are: Is this scene too big? It's about 11 inches long by about 3 inches deep right now, not including the wall. Does the placement of the miniatures make sense? Are these good figures to use? I'm unsure about Natalia, since she's more running than doing a fighting retreat. (But maybe she's falling back faster so she can cover Grace and Andriessa better.) Which Reaper mini(s) would be a good for the teenage girl leader of the "crusaders"? (Kristianna, Crusaders Warlord would be a possibility but I don't think she reads as a teenager. However, since this is "inspired" by Shadowrun, I don't have to keep to canon, do I?) Disclaimer: Deus, the Renraku Arcology, and the basic setup are all from the Shadowrun universe and are not my creation. The backstory is a summary of the setup from the sourcebook Renraku Arcology: Shutdown.- 26 replies

This was one of the half-finished minis in my end of the year finish-it-up pile. When the news about David Bowie's death broke I pulled him out to finish him. Shadowrun first came out in 1989. This figure (originally a Ral Partha, now from Ironwind Metals) came out in 1993. At the time the future aesthetic was terribly 1980s, and all the male elves looked like Bowie's Goblin King from Jim Henson's movie "Labyrinth". He is a decker. This involves having actual computer implants in his skull and having to carry around, in his hands, a gigantic 1980s-style keyboard and computer, because the future is not wireless. Ah, well. I'm not sure how well the figures sold, since Shadowrun is not necessarily a game that lends itself to minis scale combat (being prone to car chases and virtual reality). I like them anyway, as a bit of '80s retro-futurism noir.

So just finished this figure last night. This is part of a set of four Shadowrun figures that I've been painting recently, the biggest and most time-consuming of the quartet. He didn't have lots of metal, but he's such a big figure the sword and the arm brace kind of are very obvious, so hope they turned out well. I think they're a little too blue, but that's just the way they turned out. Anyhoos, enjoy this little Cyclops and his murderous ways!

So here is my second hobgoblin that I've completed. I've actually got a pile of six hobgoblins, the Reaper Archer, this one and four Hackmaster Hobgoblins. Every so often I try to work on figures with at least some similar color schemes to make me work a bit more efficiently. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. With all the hobgoblins, their biggest commonality was the skin tones, after that they kind of branched out. Anyhows, here's hobgoblin number two, from a set of Shadowrun Metahumans. The set came with two gnomes (that I've already posted) and a cyclops which I'll get worked on after I'm hobgoblinned out. This guy ended up being pretty colorful. I had a full mohawk to work with so I had to throw some color into that! with those side lines of hair, I wasn't sure if those were supposed to be hair or some kind of cyborg cables, but in the end I opted for hair. Gave me a chance to throw a bit more color around! Enjoy!

Good morning all, so hope all you that hail from the land of the Gringo are having a beautiful long weekend, I know I am, with lots of turkey and then rampant capitalism. So I finished this one last night, and just got him photographed, a Ral Partha Shadowrun Street Samurai, sculpted by Tom Meier, no idea when, late eighties/early nineties: Whenever I pull these things off their bases there is always a little piece of paint that pops off the back that I never quite catch until it's too late, but never quite care enough to fix. Anyhow, enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving!

Good morning, here's my next figure, a Shadowrun gnome shaman, that came out of a set of MetaHuman figures, two gnomes (the female gnome already painted) a hobgoblin and a cyclops. A feisty little gnome shaman or druid, kind of scrawny with a nice long braided head of hair in the back. Fun figure to paint, a small part of the Gnomevember painting extravaganza (my extravaganza of two figures that is). No idea in the world that that thing he is holding, some kind of totem, so I pretty randomly painted it. Kind of a lot of detail for such a small little figure. Not one hundred percent sure who sculpted, but I'm guessing maybe Jim Johnson? Maybe somebody else will know a bit better. Anyhoos, hope you all enjoy!

Hello all, another Shadowrun figure I just finished working on, a Tom Meier piece, Shadowrun Female Street Samurai with Gun. There is also a male version of this gal that I'll be painting one of these days in the near future. With the rest of the Shadowrun figures I've done recently, I've done lots of vivid colors and makeup, but this lady looked a little more military-ish to me, so I kept her with a natural hair color, a white tank top and some military green shorts. I just did a very single colored base that I might afterwards actually mount onto a plastic base, not sure about that. It's kind of weird the glaring errors you don't notice until you get these hugely closeup photos, like the seam on her weapons side. Oh well, when you look at her head one you don't really notice it I guess. This hobby is just a continuous learning process! So anyhow, hope you enjoy, even if you can see tons of imperfections!

So I'm working on a set of four, some Meta-Human Subtypes and got this one done first, a female gnome Rigger or Decker. As always, so hard to decide on colors. When I think gnomes I think of either lots of colors or just nature colors, so went with some pretty strong bright shades I think, and blue hair with that cyberpunk vibe that Shadowrun has. After this one, there's a male gnome, a cyclops and a hobgoblin with a mohawk, so hope to get those going soon as well.o When I took her off the balsa wood base I paint my figures on, a little bit of the paint came off the back of the base I can see now, so I'll eventually touch that up. This little lady is pretty small, a gnome lass in a 25 mm world, so she's not too big at all. If ever I remember I'll take a picture of her against a coin for reference.

This is the first of two old Grenadier figures from the set 1502: "Robo Hunters" sculpted by Mark Copplestone. I'm not sure if they were ever official Shadowrun miniatures, but they are definitely a 1980s vision of the future. WIP thread (unfinished) here. The red is pretty intense, but tends to dry shiny no matter what I do. Here's a slightly different angle: The woman figure from the set can be seen here. A young woman from the set "1502 Teen Robo Hunters" can be seen here.

Good evening everybody, so my Shadowrun quest goes on, and I just finished the last of a quartet of street mages. I think I'm enjoying these because the color schemes are different than I usually use, and I don't feel at all odd about painting different and punky hair colors with the game and the figures conceptualized by in the eighties and nineties. Anyways, here's another street mage, and Elven Combat Mage, hope you enjoy!

Hi guys, so I'm slowly working my way through some Shadowrun figures, and here is my latest one. This is number three of a set of four Street Mages, one more left to go on the set. Tried to use pretty much just greys, blues and purples, didn't want too much contrast! So anyhoos, not too much metal on this figure, which was kind of nice. Next one hopefully in a few days to complete the set!
