More camera pics? Ha - more camera *video*! My gaming group's current party have dubbed themselves "The Unicorn Chasers"* and so my girlfriend went ahead and bought me two unicorns (and an Alicorn) for my birthday. Minis: Starmane, Unicorn SKU: 02151 Silverhorn, Unicorn SKU: 02064 Alicorn SKU: 02951 Paints: A lot. Almost all Reaper. I work fast and loose and tend not to write stuff down. Dominant color for the rearing unicorn is dragon black with a misty grey mane. White unicorn is mostly khaki highlight and bleached linen. Alicorn is buckskin pale and faded khaki IIRC. I put them in this diorama. First ever resin pour for water! I think it came out okay. Cliffs / rocks are pink foam. Vines (and leaves in the water) are birch seed pods painted in different colors. Bought those on Amazon. Hey all, I don't normally post pictures up of what I've painted but this was a special case and I mentioned it in the Randomness thread. Young lady down the street (2nd grade?) is quite the character and takes my razzing her in stride. We had a long discussion about why she was eating bean bags and her denial of that, for example. Anyway, she managed to talk her parents into buying a very large unicorn lawn ornament for Christmas. I don't see how a unicorn is Christmassy, but she managed it, so I felt that deserved a bit of a reward and I should paint her a unicorn that didn't have to go into storage after the holidays. Two bits of background. This isn't the first time I've gifted someone decades younger than me some painted mini figures. The first set was to my two nieces and nephew. We were visiting them for Christmas a long while ago, and I took them all to a local hobby store. The middle niece asked her father for one of the Bones dragons, $4.95 retail I believe, and he wouldn't get it for her because she'd have to paint it. Oh ho ho ho! It was one from the KS's, so I knew I had it. Painted it up after we got home, and decided that the other two would need ones as well. But for them, I did a drider and another unicorn if I remember right. Anyway, gave it to them during our summer visit and they loved them. Then, about two years ago, I found out they weren't allowed to play with them because "your uncle painted that for you". OMG. No, no, no, no, no! That was not the right thing to do! *sigh* They are all older and not into playing with action figures now. Hopefully, they'll grow into it. So I was determined to not let that happen this time, but I ran into a snag. Didn't have the unicorn. Reaper is out of stock. Panic! I've set my mind in motion and Must Have One. I find one online at a store that won't be mentioned, buy it, buy a bit more to fill in for shipping, and wait. And wait. And wait. Took two weeks for them to finally ship! And this was the first of December, but I still have time to paint 'em. And then I wait. And wait. And wait! Now I'm panicking, because it's three days before Christmas, but the package finally shows up! With only the Xwing filler toy I put in for grins. Turns out, by the time they got to my order, gee willerkers, they were out of stock! So rather than contact me, they just shipped what they had. Which I only bought to fill in the shipping tier. Oh, right, right. You should get refunded for those other two. Guess who lost a customer for life? But now I'm panicked and I need a unicorn! I decide that as large of a mountain of figures I have, I should have a unicorn in there somewhere. I find some dragons, and think, well, I might paint those up instead. I also find hippos, but I discard the idea of modding them to hippocorns. Nothing seems to pop out, and I'm digging through when I find some GW Brettonian knights. Hey! Cavalry! HORSE! I start looking through the sprues, and one of the knight head options is ... DUN DUN DUN! Unicorn! Okay. My mind starts racing on how to convert the horse to a unicorn, when my wife comes down to ask me a question. I stand up and the spinner with a ton of figures is slightly in my way, so I spin the rack to see her... and spy the rotten unicorn I tried to buy. I had one already! *insert face palm here* Well, enough exposition. This is a show off thread. Three days of frantic painting, and the below is the result. Her favorite color was dark blue, so that's what the unicorn became. Figured his friends needed to be the two dragons. Rocky I envisioned as a yellow dragon, and the red hatchling... stayed red. Quick paint jobs all around. The blotchy blue doesn't really look that way when held, so I'm not sure what's going on there. Anyway, shut up, show pictures

My Druid is circle of the Shepard- she can cast spectral animals to help buff the party. She is also an astrologist with a huge interest in space. She also has the robe of stars... i made her spectral unicorn a space unicorn...because why not? She is also attached (although no reaper) to show the robe I painted...

WIP This unicorn has a slightly lavender tone because my PC half-drow wild magic sorcerer, Grz'zilda, has already summoned a unicorn a few times through wild magic surges.

Found something hiding in my drawer-full-o-minis! How It's Painted...

From my drop in on London, I also bought a unicorn. Hell yeah. I decided to do a classical pretty unicorn paint, and I had all these grand ideas of soft blue hued whites and stuff... And it all went horribly wrong because I drybrush a lot and am less than amazing at blends. Partly white blends. I actually ended up just outright covering up all the Vallejo paint on here (on the mane, tail, and legs) and just going to town instead with my usual GW paints, and then tried out my new Soulstone blue over all that. I was pleasantly surprised. I ended up putting in loads of shade on him which I then tried to drybrush back out, but didn't get the gradual change I wanted overall. He's very tabletop, but... To be honest, girly stuff isn't my thing, haha. I like monsters way more. Perhaps I'll buy another and then try and paint that one as the evil twin =P So yeah... Unicorn! My photos are grossly inconsistent atm :S Paints used... Hi, I'm Laoke and you may remember me from such threads as Bones! Do They Sink or Drown? and Reaperbryan, Like Unto A Tiny God?. I haven't been painting much of late: been planning fiendish evil plans (mainly around swapping jobs, cities, and marrying the twisted evil artist of my dreams). But a colleague of mine started a D&D campaign and asked if she could have a figure to represent her axe-wielding Paladin o'Shield Bashing Doomâ„¢. And, like the fool I am, I said yes! I took in my stash of human female fighters with shields, and she chose 77094: Trista, the White Wolf - I figured I could do a weapon swap easily enough, and I absolutely adore the figure. My colleague is a russian living in New Zealand, so I went with a Red + Yellow motif for the figure. First of all I put down the base coats: my apologies for the quality of the photos - my normal camera is in the shop. Then I spent some time pretty much screwing the figure up and swapping the weapon out because I forgot to do it before I put down the base coat. This is the finished result: it's not what I'd consider my best work, but it was a lot of fun to get to this point : ) Also, I finished off a project I started last year: 77029: Silverhorn, Unicorn painted up from purple.

It was grey and had eight feet, and this is the best horse among gods and men." -Snorri Sturlason, Edda (written around 1220 CE, the latter line a translation by Jesse Byock) This is a conversion of two Unicorn figures into Sleipnir, the horse of the Chieftain of the Norse Gods, Odin. I used the extra legs from the second figure to give Sleipnir the eight legs as indicated by Snorri's Edda, one of our major sources for Norse Myth. The runestone on the base was made entirely by me. It uses runes from the Elder Futhark and reads the second sentence of the quotation above, save the words "ok monnum" (and men.) I didn't have quite enough room to fit it, and I felt it was expendable. Pity, though. Questions and comments welcome! Feel free to peruse the whole process....

I couldn't think of a better start for adding my posts to these forums. As my 5 year old daughter has recently started showing an interest in my miniature painting, I decided to get a couple of unicorns to paint with and for her. This is the result of about 1 hours worth of painting, followed by 5 minutes of Quickshade on my effort, then a quick matte coat the next day to get rid of the gloss. I'm really proud of her effort. It was originally all pink, which in her words was "so we don't have to use all the paints", but when I got out the rest of the colors for my rainbow bits, she decided she wanted to do more, and did. The grass was added because "unicorns love grass". For my effort, I actually really like the patchy shading that resulted from the Quickshade, it makes it look more gritty. And she really likes both of them, so I couldn't ask for more.
