  1. Finally finished my copy of Bombshell Miniatures Sister Sergeant Maelee, aka "Heresy" Maelee, their Con exclusive figure from last year. Most time I think I've ever spent on a 28mm figure. Pretty happy with how she turned out. Pigments on the feet look heavier in the pictures than they do in real life.
  2. Since i didn't have my paints with me while on break, i was hungry to get back to it. I guess i wasn't as full of turkey and stuffing as i thought. As I'm posting this, i saw on his left leg that he's got an unpainted seal. Dang it! I made the bands on the blade smaller. Added more metal details. Added more accent color. Tested two new paint color (silver grey, red. And German Grey). Each did great. His backpack gave me some trouble. I was gluing it on, but the post didn't push in and then it broke off. Ended up doing some surgery back the but it's on.
  3. Started this guy back in 2010 and, after eleven years of on and off work (mostly off), I'm going to say he's finished. There are things I could do better now than when I started him, and certainly areas I could try to tweak more, but I'd rather save the energy/time for another figure. 54mm Games Workshop "Brother Artemis" Space Marine from the old "Inquisitor" game. Made a few minor tweaks (repositioned the sword) and left off a few bits 'cause I didn't like how they looked. Base was sanded down and then rebuilt with plastic card to look industrial. Nowadays I can just buy 40mm bases that are done this way. It was actually the first part thing that got painted which meant I had to be careful when I was painting the figure! Painted primarily with Reaper paints.

  7. Because I have finaly off a couple of days, I`ll take the chance to upload one wip project more. But that`s enough for the moment. This will gonna be a diorama in the end and I started it as group project at my german home forum the Bemalforum. Sometimes we just consider a topic and the members of the forum try to keep to this topic with their projects. I started this as group project with the topic "Make love not war". I didn`t get it finished in time, but I don`t mind and nevertheless finish it as I have planned it. Concept: As said the topic is "Make love not war" and so this was a good opportunity for creating a battle scene with antagonists such as "Love" vs. "Hate", "Good" vs. "Evil" and so on. In the case here the Space Marine represents love and the good one. Haha. Alyx is representing hate and the bad one. This whole project has a meaning and a message and it is: "Hate is little fearful child and love is a huge, self contended Space Marine able to protect you." I drilled a hole into the gun of the Space Marine and later he will shoot with flowers LOL. I will also add anything peaceful into his empty hand (I still consider what exactly, suggestions for the empty hand are welcome). The side of the base where the Space Marine is standing on will be very colourful with green gras, plants and most of all with a lot of colourful flowers. The side of the base where Alyx is standing on will be monochromatic black/white as herfself is also only painted monochromatic black/white. The only colour which will be added later to Alyx and her side of the base will be bloodred. Her fist will be covered with blood later and it will drop on the base too. Base: What I wish to create here are 2 different spheres. One colourful and bright, full of hope and love (Space Marine`s side), the other one (Alyx`s side) liveless dark and just dried and dead plants and simply everything will be painted only in black/white apart from the blood at Alyx`s fist and on the base. Maybe I will put the Teddy (she is originally holding in her hand) on her side of her base too and paint it still colourful as a symbol of her lost childhood. The concept is finished and determined. I`m only open for suggestions in details which support the basic idea. I had help by Mortimer and Ildfus Mahler (both members of the Bemalforum). Mortimer is my muse and he had the idea to add a Hasslefree child to the scene and Ildfus helps me to plan and execute my ideas for the base. So there are already other painters involved here for supporting this project and I will follow the advice by Ildfus Mahler mainly. So: Of course ideas are welcomed, but please be not upset if I let myself mainly guided by Ildfus, because I "engaged" him as my teacher for all concerning the base at this project. Thanks to Ildfus Mahler and Mortimer at this opportunity (for the case if they read it here). Technique: Oh well, this is really a hard task. I used this Space Marine for to practise maximum contrast which means I cover a range up from deep black to pure white. This is inspired by the outstanding and excellent work of the amazing painter Glaze O also known as Glaze Over. This means: Here are supposed multiple light sources (not only one from above like it is the case in zenithal highlighting) for determining the highlights/reflections. It is all painted in non metallic metal black, which was really a stupid idea Any other colour wouldn´t make this stress I have right now with all this greys, black and white aaaargh. The multiple light sources make the nmm looking intresting no matter from what angle you look at it and so this is advanced nmm painting. I mixed in some dark blue into the black for increasing the metallic look. Pictures are more blue than in real, I have to change the white balance settings for the next wip photos. In basic it is wetblending in the beginning, followed by layering (70%-80%) and partially I used two brush technique (30%-40%). Glaze Over has written on his blog that he only uses two brush technique for to create this wonderful shiny nmm effect, but I`m not very common with this technique and so I just used it partially until now. Nothing is really finished here and I`m still working on almost all blendings for to get them smoother and for to get the contrast higher. I guess I have painted over 50 hours until now (mainly tedious layering without any end) at the Space Marine and this sucks a bit haha. This is a challenge for me and the only miniature at the moment where I really try to improve my skills as a painter. All other paintjobs at the moment are just on my recent level (not very challenging), but this one here is meant as challenge for me. As always: All kind of feedback is appreciated. Sorry this last image is too dark at the lower part, but the wooden base is to see. Both will be put on the same base which is a wooden socket.
  8. I knew it... sooner or later I'd end up painting a Space Marine. One of my friends gave me a spare Marine in MkIII armour, so I decided on the Death Guard as I've always liked their colour scheme. It's fun to paint pristine white armour and then slap so much brown ink on it that it would have been easier to just drop it in a pot of coffee.
  9. Presenting an Iron Priest from the Space Wolf chapter of the Space Marines. As a Space Wolf I know he's supposed to be a light grey, but his armour panels have this lovely hand-beaten metal-like texture to them, so it seemed a shame not to paint them metallic. He then got more and more colourful from there. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  10. I do finish a miniature on occasion. This one was the proof of concept. Now to finish three more for this squad (one is already done), then the rest of the force.
  11. For a painting competition entry I had to find a 20 year old miniature to work with. Digging through my old boxes of minis (mostly Games Workshop) I found a "Kharn the Betrayer" chaos space marine from 96 (I think was the date on his tab). Decided I wanted to give him a fun base, something more than just the general skull pile he's usually on. So, started scratchbuilding a symbol of Khorne for him to stand on, here's two pics of the understructure. (Bottom of the actual base is the black, white cap is just for handling.) This (although small) is the most involved basing project Ive done to date, and I'm already learning lots on how to do things better, and a lot of what not to do. Anyway, will be updating as I progress further on him. - Added some more detailing to the base, and started laying ground for skulls. - More skulls and playing around with details on the symbol, have added a removed a few things that didnt turn out how I liked. - And some more skulls, also added paper cut of potential plating on the symbol on top right portion. Think I like it and will add to the rest of them for next update (which wont be til next week, as out of town til then.)
  12. Well, it's been about seven years since I last painted a space marine, and I have to confess that seeing all the amazing work on the new Primaris Marines was making me want to give it a try again. I have long thought it would be cool to do a chrome (or SENMM [Sky-Earth Non-Metallic Metal]) Marine, so I finally gave that a shot! The technique itself is painfully slow, but I had a lot of fun, and I'm pretty happy with the results! Oh, and I did do a little bit of conversion work by swapping in some old Dark Angels bits, in case anyone was wondering! Thanks for looking! Hopefully, after ReaperCon, I'll have time to do a YouTube tutorial on how I did the chrome for those of you who are interested!
  13. So I finally got this book and began prepping the miniature that came with it. I'm really impressed with the design of the new Primaris. Very well done. To start I felt like the over all miniature needed some more weight to it. I mixed up some sculpty and green stuff and filled in his base and pressed the remaining into his back. It still fits together cause there is a lot of hollow space in him. The only reason I knew it was light was they had a few on display at the Games Workshop store so I got to pick one up.
  14. Little is known of Father Mordicais past, before he pledged his allegiance to the God of Plagues, but the speed at which he and his Chalice Of Filth warband have gained notoriety amongst the multitudes that battle for the attentions of the Dark Gods make him someone to be feared and respected. Presenting Father Mordicai - The Lord of Corruption, he is the leader of one half of Games Workshops latest Warhammer 40K starter set. Not completely happy with this one. Made a mess basing him, there's sand all clumped up around his feet. I also couldn't get his arms to attach properly (they dry-fitted perfectly at the start, so I'm not sure what changed), leaving a sizeable gap around his shoulders. At least I didn't do too terrible of a job painting him. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  15. Presenting Grand Master Voldus, he's a special character from that Gathering Storm campaign thing Games Workshop have had going on recently. Still haven't worked out how to paint Space Marine armour properly, but he was fun to work on. As always, any comments or criticisms, are warmly received.
  16. A deeply religious fellow, the Knight of Remembrance was originally a Knight Chaplain responsible for recording the names of his fallen comrades in arms. Spending too long seeing too many good men die due to the arrogance and incompetence of those in charge, he left his original knightly order to offer his skills to those in need. Another Space Marine from Games Workshop Deathwatch:- Overkill set, I had a lot of fun painting him even if he was covered in way too much stuff. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  17. Presenting the Knight of the Storm. After encountering the legendary Knight of Skulls, he was inspired to abandon his original knightly order, who had become little more than the attack dogs of the corrupt Galactic Nobles, and set out on his own. Eventually he banded together with other, like-minded, knights to form The Brotherhood of Bones, a beacon of hope in an otherwise cold and uncaring universe. Yep, it's another Space Marine, this time it's one of the heroes from the Deathwatch: Overkill boxset. Didn't want to use the official Deathwatch colour scheme (a very boring mostly black with a silver left arm), so I'm making it up as I go again. As always, any comments or criticisms are greatly appreciated.
  18. Here's a rendition of the old version of the Despoiler. With Forge World's newer rendition of him (in their Horus Heresy line) it is easy to overlook the older one. For one thing, he's smaller than you would expect from a character in terminator armor- but he fit right in back when he was first introduced... about twenty years ago. For the record, credit for the base belongs to my client. Anyway, here he is:
  19. Presenting the Knight of Skulls. Despite his fearsome appearance, he is a true champion of justice who travels the galaxy protecting the vulnerable colonists of the outlying worlds from marauding Space Pirates and other terrors. He is actually a Dark Angel Interrogator-Chaplain Space Marine from Games Workshop, but I didn't want to get bogged down into matching official colour schemes and such so he is now The Knight of Skulls. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  20. I decided to reboot by old space marine army and here is my first finished mini for that endeavor. I decided to go with an older look and am thus buying as much of the forge world minis for this as is possible. Yes it is very expensive but I'll enjoy they way it looks better. And since all of my old imperial fists minis need rebasing anyway, I thought I'd start over. The bases I'm using for this are the secret weapon blasted wetlands. I'm also using the Imperial Fists decal sheet from forge world. Thus, I give you the Imperial Fists MKII Standard bearer. This is a closeup of the banner. I used the forge world decal sheet for this. The dorn and the banner background are 2 different decals stacked. Now a comparison of what the rest of the old army looks like. I think the new ones are going to be WAY better. This also shows how far I've come in my 15+ years of painting.
  21. finished my Chaplain for my Luna Wolves :) Finally got better lighting and some better pictures. Still a line or two on him I wish I had done a better job on greenstuffing :( Really liked painting this model, it has a lot of details and I had a lot of fun painting the "plasma" effect on the gun. And a shot of him with the models I've completed thus far:
  22. Here is a project that I really got to get into. My client wanted an Imperial Knight that had turned to Tzeentch. It was to be allied with his Chaos Daemons force, so it did not need to be a Thousand Sons Knight. There is only a little bit of conversion here- the head was swapped out for the head of a High Elf Phoenix. Otherwise, the alignment was all down to coloration. I wend with a blue to purple fade for most of the armor plating- I felt this was right for the god of change, and the bright pink contrasted nicely with that (and also matched a force composed largely of pink horrors). Of course, it isn't right to leave any Imperial Knight mini without freehand, so I made sure to get a lot of the Changing God's iconography all over him.
  23. I've been working on my Fabulous Force and so far I gotta say they're turning out better than I expected. But there's so much room for them to be better... For example, while the whole point of these guys is to be PINK!!! I can't help but find it a bit too monotonous. Especially on the back. It probably wouldn't take much to accent it and break up the pink a bit, I'm just not sure what to do. Opinions would be very appreciated, on any aspect of the mini. Edit: Show-off thread here.
