  1. A friend of mine gave me some canvases last month! I've decided to turn them into backdrops for my larger minis (or maybe just for minis in general depends on if I can get a floor piece to match. One of them (20"x16") I'm going to turn into a Bob Ross-esque painting but with like a dark and red sky so it seems the land is burning. The one I'm about to show (12"x16") is a dungeon that I've already had brother mock up a photo yesterday and I spent a chunk of yesterday and today drawing it out with heavy guidance from him. The third one I'm open to ideas. It is also a 12"x16". I don't care which way it's oriented. I just need ideas! I'm prefacing this by saying I literally do not draw. I've never felt good at it. It's just never been a thing I could wrap my head around. So back to the second one! I knew I definitely wanted a dungeon. But my brain, for a change, had a rough idea of what I wanted. I did some Googling and talked to my brother who does cute MSPaint cat portraits and other things to help me out. He drew up this rough sketch for me. And then with heavy guidance from him I was able to draw everything (except the chest) on my own! He helped with placing and proportions and whatnot. I still need to draw in the stone floor and cobblestones for the bridge/pillars though. So saying I am happy with it is an understatement. I will be painting this up. I have a /small/ set of water soluble oil paints and lots of acrylics. I will be using one or both of these in painting all of these.
  2. So here I am posting yet another WIP thread. I will probably finish this one this time since it is a gift for my SIL. It is the Bookish Dragon from Wildspire Games. I am currently pre-planning colors with an app on my tablet. I am thoroughly stuck though. I want the main color to be a purple. Problem with this is that green is the complementary color and I don't want it to look like Barney or the Joker. I am currently using swatches of MSP Monarch Purple, MSP Amethyst Purple, and a few different browns/tans that I'm not sure I'm happy with. This is where I'm at so far. Any suggestions are welcome. Under the spoiler are uncolored photos of the pieces.
  3. So I've taken a break from my Fallout coloring book but I am still coloring. I'm going to use this for my non-Fallout books.
  4. Spent less time on this than I thought but I am very happy with the outcome. C&C welcome.
  5. This year marks 10 years since I started painting. These were my very first set of minis I bought and painted. I, in the last couple of years, bought this set off of someone on eBay because they are, apparently, massively out of print. The painted ones below are the ones from 10 years ago. The grey ones are, obviously, the new set. I have one with a very bent spear. I need to fix it before I can start though. It seems the new set may have come with /all/ of the unit(?). The painted ones came from a GW learn to paint kit before I knew about Reaper. Really, this project is me wanting to see how far I've come.
  6. I received this bust for Valentine's Day of this year. I have been so busy I have not had a chance to sit down and start it. I've decided that now that I'm done with my commission I'm going to take a break and work on something for me that should, hopefully, be relaxing. I was going to save this until I "get better." If anything this hobby has taught me one of the big things is to just go for it so that's what I'm doing. The bust is Dziewanna from Ignis Art. She is gorgeous. The quality of the resin is top notch and looks like it doesn't need much if any clean up. I /want/ to figure out how to attach a bow string but I'm not sure how I'll do that off hand. I also have a plinth for her that I'm not totally sure how to go about attaching her to.
  7. It's January! That means a new year and new challenges for the challenge league. So January's minis are as follows: Themes - Fresh Start, Good Luck: Enrieth, Female Harefolk Rogue (30012) Limited Palette - blue, green, yellow: Dire Grouper (BV Dk.Dp. | 601) Plasma Blue, Peacock Green, Callistria Yellow Player Character: Garrick the Bold (77008) Monster: Owlbear (BV Dun.Dw. | 301) Duo's: Elanter the Lost Prince (30006) Trio's: Damras Deveril, Wizard (30007) New Release: Gingerbread Knight (30033) Freebie: Pyram the Pincher, d4 (77646) Now for Quarterly minis: Large Freebie: Fungal Queen (44050) Seasonal Themed: Valentines Mousling (03557) Large Model: Cloud Giantess (BV GO | 515) Moderator's Choice: (NOT YET ANNOUNCED???) I am starting to prime them as necessary. The only category I don't have listed is the Heavy Mod/ Conversion because I never get that one done anyway.
  8. I should have started this at the beginning of the year but a few months late is better than never. I've been working on getting stuff together for Q2 and some things for the rest of the year. For the quarterly stuff I'm going to continue to work on Grimtalon...that I don't think I have a WIP thread for and my large group has settled on doing a townsfolk theme and I'm doing the Fishwife from Dreadmere in Bones 4 KS. I have a diorama in the works but I really don't know if I'm going to finish it this quarter. My list for April: Theme: (Vampire): Jahenna, Female Vampire (77669) Limited Palette: Purple, Orange, Pink Styx Purple, Fire Orange, Runic Glow Giant Frog (44024) Player Character: Lysette, Elven Mage (Bones USA (30001)) Monster: Gulper (44038) Duo: Cyclops (77705) Trio: Merowyn Lightstar (77675) New Release: Darius the Blue (Bones USA (30002)) Freebie: D’Tenian, d10 (77647) Will get some photos up soon.
  9. One of the pieces from Bones 4 that I was most excited about was this one. The Fungal Queen is very regal IMO. I'm using a color palette based on a Blood Mushroom. I hope to not add (many) more colors than the ones shown below. I may not even use all of those. So far I've gotten her skin (somewhat) base coated and the mushroom top is more or less finished. Lots of touch-ups and tweaks but very happy so far.
  10. Every year I do this I say it'll be my last. Well, I'm doing it again. Haven't thought of a good title for this one yet. Currently working on a list of minis and a list of what I need to do so I don't forget and skip any prep. Might paint a couple things to get back into the swing of things since I haven't painted in about a month. Calendar and pics of choices coming soon.
  11. I am burnt out on painting so I've picked back up my story I started last year. So starting a couple of days ago I decided that since I'm busy with real life stuff I will write in my free time. I've been make some headway going back and changing and adding things. I'm excited for something different for a little while.
  12. Painted this one for a Halloween gift exchange amongst some friends. Very happy with it.
  13. I've been trying to figure out how I want to set up my Bones V WIPs. Because, well, I got A Lot of stuff. I didn't want to do one thread for everything because again, A Lot of stuff. So this is the start of the Core Set WIP. I will try to give proper names to minis and at least use the number it is listed in the KS images. I will probably start listing each grouping of minis as found on the KS page and link to where it starts by updating this post to find things easier. I'd already finished this one by the time I thought to do this. Stained Glass Knight (1097):
  14. So, for October this year I'm going to attempt to paint a mini a day. This will take the place of Minivember probably from now on. November's have just become too busy for me to feasibly paint everyday. This will be called All Minis Eve! I am currently in the process of making an advent calendar for October. I'll post how I'm doing it and progress, I hope to have it done before October so I can kick things off this year. How it works: I have tons of minis laying around so unless you want to or don't have enough (is that a problem around here?) minis you won't need to buy any (unless you want to). You will need 31. Once the calendar is assembled 1 mini will go in each felt pouch and you pull one out each day then plan, prep, and paint it. You have that one day to do it. Midnight to midnight. I will not get to pick out my own minis as I will have my Husband do it so it'll be a surprise each day. To start I bought: Spooky spider web fabric Adorable ghost ribbon (1.5") Tan felt (three 9"x12" sheets) Black felt (three 9"x12" sheets) Fabric glue I also have handy: Sewing needles Orange thread Fabric tape measure Ruler Scissors Fabric pencil Pen/Sharpie I don't yet have a dowel and ends for it or photo transfer paper. I will edit the above later if I've forgotten anything. Some pictures of materials: Plans: Above is a rough sketch of what the layout will be like. I have cut the tan felt into 33- 3"x3" squares and a 3"x9" rectangle. I will take 1 yard of fabric and affix the squares with fabric glue and sew them on as well for extra hold. I will leave several inches free at the top to put the title which I will cut out of the black felt. I will use a piece of ribbon to underline it and then put the squares below.
  15. I am looking for something to put on Grimtalon's base that will look like desert sand. I have found a few things but I am not sure how well they will work. I don't really want to spend 10$ for Citadel technical paints if at all possible. I thought Army Painter might have some but alas they do not. I did find some Vallejo desert sand gel. Has anyone worked with this before? If so, how did it come out? Are there other options I have not considered that might work? I'm still fairly new to basing so I want to put a little more effort than "winging it" for this.
  16. Well, I'm finally doing it. I'm going to start painting Ma'al. I think I've gotten enough figured out with Mini Ma'al that I can start. At the very least I'm going to start prepping him for painting...that might take a while. Blue liner and mold line removal are first! Not going to boil him because I can live with the slight bend in the wing(maybe, we'll see how I feel before I liner that wing.) Probably won't post more pictures until after I've linered him.
  17. Now that I've finished the Frost Giants I'm moving onto something a bit warmer, Fire Giants. Currently I've boiled, primed, and base coated skin on all 5. Several will probably need an additional skin coat but so far so good. Pictures in spoiler.
  18. Did this up for the Q2 seasonal RCL challenge.
  19. I painted this for the RCL limited palette challenge this month. Used only the 5 colors shown. Lots of mixing happened. I'm super happy with it but as always C&C is welcome.
  20. So! I'm back. I haven't finished any of my other WIPs lately but I figure one more won't hurt. I'm planning on doing a film noir style desert expedition whereupon our investigators find something not of this world. I'm really excited for this one(not that I'm not excited for all my projects) but I have some hurdles to cross. I want a wall between the white and grey bones, preferably crumbly looking. Not sure where to start with that. Figure out the best way to magnetize things. And the really big one: figure out how to actually paint in the style I'm trying to do. This will involve a lot of work and time. As well as some (maybe a lot of) practice minis. I'm currently in the mock up stage. I've got the minis I want and I'm trying to stage them how I think will look good as well as imagine the wall where I want it. First stages of mock up.
  21. Spent just about a week on this one. It was fun. My GS work sucks but it's done. C&C welcome.
  22. Painted this up. Finally attached her to the base. Not sure if I want to just paint black over the base or do something fancy with it.
  23. So my Husband needs a boat for his 4E campaign. It unfortunately cannot wait until Bones 5 delivers so I bought a paper craft boat from World Works Games. It's called The Maiden. It's HUGE. Photo from the website in spoiler. In the photo you can see a few minis placed on it for scale. Like I said HUGE. I've done some other paper craft boats before but nothing like this. I'll be using foamcore for the base of the decks but the rest of it is card stock, transparency paper, and Uhu glue(the glue stick not the liquid-y stuff). I'm not yet sure which figurehead and props I will be using. I may just make them all and let Husband decide what he wants/needs after that. Thankfully, this thing comes with pretty detailed instructions so it shouldn't be...not sure hard is the word I want but it's the one I'm going to use. So it shouldn't be hard, it's just up to my skill to cut, glue, and (most importantly) follow directions. It will take lots of time though I am sure of that.
  24. It's been quite some time since I've done a show off but here goes. I painted this mini in about 6 hours. Still need to gloss and seal. C&C welcome.
