Wow. It’s been a while since I posted anything to show off. A local friend challenged me to paint a mini while flying (via commercial aircraft), and I decided to take her up on the challenge during my 4 hour flight to Denton this year. For once my flight was smooth, on-time, and empty. It’s a spooky experience. I figured I should post the results before something terrible happens to me! Not bad for speed painting in a moving vehicle!. I should note that I had the Darkreach fast palette, pure white, and brown liner with me on the plane. That went a long way towards dictating my color choices. My brown liner sort of exploded from the pressure change, but I was able to keep it pretty contained. We’ll see how it goes when I’m back on the ground. We’re about 250 miles from Dallas now, so I’m packing up. Hopefully I’ll see some of you in a couple of hours!

I was testing the army painter speedpaints. I have to say I'm not a fan. It doesn't allow as much variation. I'm a layer guy. Now i gotta find someone i can offload these to.

I had a day off yesterday and wanted to get some work done toward staging an Original D&D game sometime “soon”. I’m working on a handful of potential PCs, but wanted to get a couple of smaller monsters done. These have all been sitting around in primer for a long time and I’m tired of looking at them. So…drybrush the heck out of them and call it a day. The figures are all Ral Partha, two trolls (01-063), three skeletons (01-046), two wraiths (01-030), and a small carnosaur (13-004, an erythrosuchus to be exact).

Hello forum family, wanna show you this very nice mini; I know, I'm late (or extremely early...), but I was busy with a bust and did not found the time to paint anything else :P This is a speedpaint (for my standard) I've painted her mostly wet-blending; my attempt was to create a creepy looks but not too much (she is still a Christmas ghost!). I'm pretty happy of her, nothing special, but it took me a couple of hour to paint her so I'm satisfied :) Hope you'll like her as much as I do :P Every C&C is, as always, more than welcome! Oh, and... Merry Xmas! :°D

My goal here was to push myself to go as fast as possible. Start to finish it took approx. 2.5 hours, which is definitely a record for me. Contrary to my usual practice, I painted the integral base; when I do get around to doing a proper base, I will likely integrate it into the display. C&C welcome.

Here are a bunch of Wizkids unpainted minis, speed painted in 1 hour or less spent on each, and no fancy basing either. The latter ones are based on Reaper bases, I think the Wizkids bases are too thin. Hello forum Family, Ciccio is back with more awful minis! I'm trying to get the Blood Rage minis painted ATM, and well... no problem with big guys like the troll or the frost giant, but the smaller minis... O M G! The worst sculpt I had to paint in my life... really CMON? Anyway, is a game, I don't pretend the super quality, and do not need to paint every mini perfectly... Let's get it started: the whole party (sorry for the bad pic...): The Valkyrie: The Soldier of Hel: The Volur Witch: The Dark Elf: The Dwarf Chieftan: As you can see nothing special, tabletop standard. Not so "Speed painting" cause of the lack of detail/bad sculpt, anyway from 1 hour (fro the Witch) to 4 hours (the Valkyrie). Hope you'll like them. C&C welcome as always. Thank you!

We were basically on apocalypse watch at work today, so I decided to take my mind off it for a little while at lunch with a speedpaint (60 minutes). Over the weekend I prepared a handful of Ral Partha individuals, inspired by my recent trip to Cincycon, so I brought a group of four with me today. I tried this guy as a warm-up; it’s been a while since I painted a true 25 metal individual. I wanted to use lighter colors because I usually tend towards dark. I hoped that the Heart Throb Pink over the Cinnamon Red would look faded. It needs more blending to stand up to be photographed at this level of enlargement. I’m also not sure what the extra layer of cloth at the right (but not left) wrist is suppose to be, so I painted it grey. I will post a picture of him based, hopefully tomorrow.

A kid who works for me plays 40K, and was showing me a color scheme he liked. I asked if I could give i a shot on one of his minis, so he gave me this one to paint up. I tried to get a decent result while doing it as fast as possible. Counting priming and sealing I think this is about 2 hours and some change. I did a zenithal prime with Stynylrez, and all colors are RMS with the exception of Nuln Oil and Seraphim Sepia.

For the last three years, I've gotten to attend Origins in Ohio, and have really loved doing the Reaper Speedpaint (and even won last year). I was hoping to go and participate in the Speedpaint again this year, but I was going through the Origins 2019 event schedule and didn't see a single entry from Reaper. Is Reaper not going to be at Origins this year, or at least not hosting any events?

Couldn't resist a Bombshell sale, and I've had my eye on Gillie here for a while. Now, I'd already gotten into a Hellboy figure (http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/85925-heckfella-wwwoz-lion-80058-and-rafm-hells-harbinger-raf03897/), so the next part was probably inevitable. This fishy gal is going to be a distaff counterpart to Abe Sapien. (Langdon Everett Colleen?) Recent posts by @Glitterwolf (loongs and ki-rin) are changing my mind on techniques, so while it is well-established that I love shiny metallic fish-people, I put on some matte layers first. And then drybrushing with metallic teals and pale blues. Next up: Freehanding some fishy stripes. And a bit more dark blue and green wash plus some more metallic drybrushing and detailing, followed by a thin layer of 'Ardcoat. Whole process took under two hours. Room for improvement, but a good start!

While waiting for washes to dry on an exchange fig this morning, I decided I'd try getting a decent paint job onto a fig I pulled out of the latest BoGW that @robinh let me browse through last week. I pulled this fig because I thought it would work well as an evil mage type in the Savage Rifts setting. But I didn't think I'd use it for the current game, as the last encounter is tonight, before we switch over to 5th Ed for a while. But what the heck, I'm going to see what I can do with him anyway. Here's about 40 minutes of base coating. Robes/gloves will be dark red, tassley cloak thing will be purpley greys. Lots of metals. Anyone able to identify him? GW? Warzone maybe? (Identified below.....)

I speed-painted this guy for an upcoming encounter because I was surprised not to have a dwarf miniature with a hammer. I really like how he came out, and how the encounter went down. So yay!

Trying my hand at speed painting. This was not done in one sitting, but total time was about 2.5 hours, which is less than half the time it normally takes me to paint a thing. Not perfect, but pretty darn good (for me, anyway) for the time spent. Here is the Wench: Didn’t plan anything out beforehand; color selection was spur of the moment. Her dress is Royal Purple with Nightmare Black shadow, and some BCA Pink mixed in for highlights. Top and apron are Lantern Yellow up through Candlelight Yellow. Tanned Skin triad was used for her flesh, and various leather colors for her hair and accessorizing accessories. Highlights didn’t really work out around her backside, but there was no time to fret over it. And you can’t really tell from the awful photo, but I finally managed to paint a decent eye. And forgot eyebrows. Whoops. C&C welcome.

Decided to have some fun today as I was digging thru my figures pulling out stuff I am going to put in the BOGW. I ran across the hydra and remembered that next weekend I planned on throwing my d&d players up against one. 3-4 hours later I have a painted up hydra on a scenic base from secret weapon miniatures. Added some water effects for a tiny swampy pond beneath it. I’d love to hear your C&C!

Update: Many thanks to the mods for their patience with this thread. Future marathon-paint show offs will be handled differently. The 30 days are now done, and I managed to finish at least 5 figures for all of them. After 3 kickstarters I have a HUGE backlog of unpainted Bones minis, so I've set myself a goal of doing 5 minis a day, speed paint, table top standard. Here are the minis for my first three days... Day One: Day Two: Day Three: Days 4 and 5 Days 6 and 7 Days 8, 9, & 10 Days 11 & 12 Days 13, 14, & 15 Days 16-20 Days 21-25 Days 26, 27, & 28 Days 29 & 30 Any marathon show-offs in the future should be done as either as a group post when the marathon is done, or with a seperate show-off thread for each week. I did not realize when I started this thread that editing the main post made more work for the mods. I apologize again for causing the mods extra work. Thank you to everyone who encouraged me through this insanity.

These are the first minis I've finished from my Bones 3 KS loot. An inglorious choice, I guess, but I really like painting simple things between more involved projects. I completed these minis in a single sitting.

Hi all, I was determined to speed paint a Reaper miniature so I prepped and painted this guy in a one night marathon session. I restricted myself to a limited classic color palate to make things easier. I think it will make a fine addition to my collection of unusual monsters. It seems like the miniature itself might be a little controversial - it was discontinued under mysterious circumstances.

Here is my 5th mini painted ever. I went with a very simplified color scheme (only 3-4 colors total). I want to add some more detail, especially around the eyes, but I rather like how it came out for being roughly 1.5 hours of work. If only I could get the staff to stay straight... Next I plan to tackle something bigger than ever before!

A quick followup to the earth oni I posted last night, to help dig into my Rokugan project. Ninjas are awesome, so I had to lead with them for the clans. They also make good generic bad guys since ninjas are pretty prominently featured in most fantasy RPG settings at this point. Because I have soooooo many minis to paint for this setting and I am just starting on this big project speed is the name of the game (well, that and having a 3yo and a 5yo makes anything that takes time impossible). I painted these in a few sittings, but it took much longer than it should have because the black paint was giving me trouble. So much black. Originally I had gone with a blue black but it just didn't look right (and too similar to colors from another clan). So, I completely repainted all of it using primarily the dark elf skin triad with vampiric skin for highlights giving it a more purple-grey hue. That recipe worked nicely for me and i'll be sure to tap it for future scorpion clan models. simple paint job, but that black really was tough to pull off. One of the nice things about the old clan war blisters is that most packs come with 4 unique sculpts of the same troop type for lots of variation, making them ideal for skirmish and RPG games where unique mooks are nice. I have a few more sets like this in the queue before I start on the personalities. many more to come!

Hi all, I finally have a functional camera (on a phone, but still), So Im going to open the vaults on my collection over the next few days and share some things that have not seen the light of day. I figured Id start with the essential Sir Forscale! I've been meaning to get a copy for years, so when I saw he was available at the Paizocon paint-and-take he was the natural choice. I had a blast meeting some forum folks in person and shaking hands with the reaper con crew. I finished most of this mini that day, and the following night I fashioned up a proper base and swapped the bones sword for a nice blade from one of the weapon packs. I'm not exactly breaking new ground here, but I'm sure Ill remember this speedpaint fondly for years. Now I have a proper Sir Forscale for future projects!

This was a quick 90 minute speedpaint to have the satisfaction of having something done quick.

So running out of time this month, I blame the snow castle: I speed-painted this guy in 2 hours, and another 30 min on stamping his base. the biggest problem may be getting paint to stick to the milliput base. another few layers? actually using primer? whats you experience? down to 2 unpainted gnolls of my 11. the last guys are primed, next month perhaps.

a friend wanted to play warhammer 40k this weekend and wanted to try his luck against my tyranid army. as luck would have it I havent painted that one yet. so I decided to see what i could do in a week. these are the results. total actual paint time is 12 hours 35 min over the course of 6 days. They started assembled but completely unpainted. They are by no means my best effort but given the time limitations I think they came out pretty well. I am also beginning to play with my new camera i got for my birthday. Let me know what you think!
